[Q] Yoga Tablet Sub-Forum? - Thinkpad Tablet General

Now that the new Lenovo Yoga Tablet 10 HD+ has a Snapdragon processor, can we get a Yoga Tablet sub-forum?
If I recall correctly, the reason they couldn't create a Yoga Tablet sub-forum in the past was because of the Mediatek processor which didn't comply with the forum requirements.
Moderators?

I also vote for a yoga sub-forum.
In my point of view there is enough stuff to discuss, which especially focus these devices.

Lenovo offers the Android BS for the Yoga 10 HD+ (B8080) as OpenSource-Code-download on the product's support page.
I think this is one more reason to open a sub-forum for this device, isn't it?

+1 from me
Actually, I just came straight from the other thread to open one requesting this myself.

+ 1 for a Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ subforum - root? brightness issue?
+ 1 for a Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ subforum. :good:
The open source-code of Lenovo is published here
By the way: Is there any solution or a guide for rooting the device? Is anything known about updating on Android 4.4 and are there any other roms available for this device till now?
Sorry for asking questions like this, but as I own the Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ just for some weeks, I don't know much about that. Also searching in this forum didn't help me. There are just some Rooting-Guides for the Lenovo Yoga 10 (which is already running Android 4.4, as far as I researched?), but for the HD+ I didn't find anything.
One other question @ all Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ owners:
I have problems with the brightness-settings. When I use the Lenovo Yoga 10 HD+ outdoor and I need a brightened screen, I switch of the brightness-automatic mode. But even if I do so, the tablet regulates the brightness of the screen down - sometimes after some minutes, sometimes even after some seconds. Anyone else here, who has the same issue or even has an solution for that?
Thank you and sorry for my bad english!
It's not my native tongue...
Regards,
Asmaron

+1 for a Yoga HD+ Subforum!
Yesterday I got an update to Android 4.4.2 - no problems so far.
Are there any news or rumours for an Android L Update yet?

Do you have the Wifi or 3g version?
I hope for the 3g version, then my tablet would get the update soon too.
I also hope that we get a sub-forum soon. The tablet is awesome and there is room for improvement with custom ROMs.
I think somebody already made a start: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/recovery-cwm-lenovo-yoga-10-hd-b8080-h-t2811815

It's weird that i haven't found a official announcement for the latest update yet.
Is there an official changelog?
And for the records: +1 for a yoga hd+ subform

Sub forum would be good
+1 for the sub forum.

Come on!
There are even Yoga 2 tablets now! A dedicated sub forum is long overdue.

My +1 on a new Yoga forum, I'm a new Yoga 2 8 owner.

Yoga 2 10" here. Agreed on finding a forum home for this.

very interested in the yoga to tablet I'm pretty disappointed to find that there is not a sub forum for the yoga series on xda.

Just bought a Yoga 2 10" at a bargain price and with VAT cash back by redemption.
Hopefully that will mean more sales in the UK. Would be great to see a dedicated forum.

Would also like to see a dedicated spot for the Yoga on xda. Now that the device architecture has changed, it would be nice to get some development going for it.

Mine is officially ordered as of last night. The Pro 13.3 just sounds like a complete monster and too good to pass up on. A stereo system paired with sub and a projector on a tablet. As more Android devices are going Intel, I think development should start picking up.

+1 Lenovo Yoga SubForum
+1 in the idea to get a subforum for the lenovo yoga hd+.
Please anyone help us

Come one with Yoga 2 sub-forum!

count me in
I'd also love a Yoga subforum! I just got my Tablet 2 Pro yesterday, and although it's a good tablet already, I'm very excited to get it rooted and fix some performance issues it's having. A subforum would definitely help with that!

So I just bought a K1

I've done a ton of reading on this forum only to find out that it's locked down pretty tight and getting Root and Roms installed can be a pain. I then went over to the Lenovo Website where it looks as if the tablet is going to be discontinued soon. I ended up chatting with a rep from Lenovo and I asked them if the K1 will be getting ICS and they said NO! So now I'm mildly disappointed in my purchase.
Is the K1 going to be worth keeping? Are we going to get a fully functional ICS rom? I see that there is some developement on CM9, but it has it's issues still. I guess what I am writing this for is, I need to know if I should just throw the K1 on Ebay and look for a more open and upgradeable tablet?

Root is a fairly simple, follow the directions, sort of process. Rom installation is the same as root. The problem isn't installation but bugs because we need driver files for ICS. Also, Lenovo hasn't released all of the source code or the bootloader, the previously released source code wasn't functional. The K1 was supposed to be getting ICS in may but it looks as though that was taken off the official website (a screen capture from before it was removed).
Hopefully we can shame Lenovo into releasing full source code and bootloader.

It would be a shame if we don't get ICS, but the way the rep at lenovo was talking, it simply isn't going to happen. As soon as I mentioned it, he said that it wasn't possible for the K1 to run ICS and then he started pushing their new tablet on me that was upgradeable to ICS. Its as if they completely dropped the K1.
Do you have links to the root and CM9 installation process that worked for you? I've read the threads and it seems as if some of them have many problems. Also, did you use windows 7? It seems as if most of the instructions are for Ubuntu
It's BS that the K1 can't run ICS. My Nook Color can run ICS flawlessly with a 2 year old single core processor. Plus there's already an ICS alpha here on this site, we just don't have the code to get the cameras and other things working.
I would personally recommend that you stick to just rooting until the K1's ICS is further along. The root works flawlessly but ICS has the bugs that are mentioned in the first post.
Here's how I rooted: http://rootzwiki.com/topic/13407-alpha-ideapad-k1-cwm-stock-rooted-rom-120109-build/

Just an Update
Lenovo released this news March 31st so its relevant to this post.
:Lenovo ThinkPad and K1 Tablet upgrade to ICS Newsflash
This coming spring 2012, Lenovo’s ThinkPad Tablet and IdeaPad Tablet K1 users will be able to upgrade to the latest Android 4.0 OS, also known as Ice Cream Sandwich. Committed to making their tablets ‘future proof’ by supporting newer releases on the Android OS, Lenovo tablets with Ice Cream Sandwich will offer new features* including but not limited to:
A new and improved browser with a significant speed enhancement that allows users to jump to their favorite content faster and even save it for reading later in case there's no network available.
Voice input allows users to dictate text. As the voice input engine enters text, it underlines possible dictation errors in gray. After dictating, users can tap the underlined words to quickly replace them from a list of suggestions.
Face Unlock, a new screen-lock option that lets users unlock their device with their face. It takes advantage of the devices’ front-facing camera and state-of-the-art facial recognition technology to register a face during setup and then recognize it again when unlocking the device.
Users should look out for the Over-The-Air (OTA) upgrades beginning in April for IdeaPad Tablet K1 and May for ThinkPad Tablet. Visit shortly for more information.
* Features may vary by model and country."

I guess they got enough angry emails. Between this and the USB host cable, this is turning into a decent purchase.

I know this is an older thread, but I though I would update with the news from Mark, in the Lenovo forums, that works for Lenovo, says the ICS for the K1 is just around the corner. They were about ready to say it's a go, but found a issue that needed fixing first. Then, they need to get the web page with all the disclaimers and whatnot about the release.
The ICS release for the K1 will NOT be an OTA. It will be a download only with full instructions. The best part of it all, at least in my opinion, is that it will be a Vanilla Release of ICS. No Lenovo junkware included.
Lenovo is being targeted as a company that lacks the ability to provide updates on a timely scale and as promised. I have yet to see ANY Android manufacturer fully comply with promises for ICS upgrades. So, hang in there and we will soon see ICS on our K1, aside from the crippled, but stable, CM9 version, here on XDA.

a. Ideapad K1 is discontinued
b. Can no longer download drivers!
So whoever is feeding info regarding any update is probably FOS - typical Chinee BS - don't think that Lenovo has any thought of upgrading. Throwing mine onto Ebay

[Q] CM for Tegra K1

I'm sorry this is off-topic, but there is no Shield Tablet forum yet
Is anyone of you Tegra devs up to the challenge to port CM to the Shield Tablet and Mi Pad? Would be very nice
Regards,
Random
Would love to, If theres enough users and If I can get my hands on one of those devices otherwise no TWRP nor custom ROMS
Good morning,
at the moment there are only 2 tablets on the market powered by the K1... and sincerely I don't think it will get CM.

[Q] should I buy it ?

Hello guys
I want to buy the tab 4 t230 mainly for reading pdf files
is it a good tablet and how about its performance ? I don't want it to be all laggy
thanks for your help
I don't know about the 230, but I have the 330 model and reading PDF files, and any other sort of document is a overall good experience for me. One could make the argument that bigger is better, but for me having the 8" model in horizontal or even vertical layout has worked quite well when it came to looking at notes, editing documents or even reading textbooks for college lectures/classes. I haven't noticed any lag when it came to just looking at a file, only when it came to running graphics intensive games.
(Quick summary) I use the 8" tablet daily and love it. recently, I purchased two textbooks from the play store and reading them and other PDF files work perfectly. :good:
-still it's always good to browse around.
Update: Before I made the purchase on the 8" model I read around that if you have a little bit extra it was a good idea to buy the 8" model over the 7" cause of the different processors inside. So it's all about how much you're willing to spend.

Edit. I would not buy the 7...
I bought the 8 and the below is for the 8...sorry. I forgot to mention that.
The tab in itself is decent, but with samsung pushy BS Apps the tab is slower...
However, should you buy the tab >> Root device with Towel root >> Freeze / uninstall all bloatware >> Install nova launcher >> Disable animations system wide >> Move larger apps to SD >> Presto = You've got a good tab!
Samsung software is not needed whatsoever. You can get a huge performance advantage by removing bloatwares and providing near android stock performance with nova launcher and animations disabled.
srsly no, i am still unable to root it, for the same price i would suggest a nexus 7
I rooted it out of the box a night or two ago. Just got it.
Same here, root capabilities were available a few weeks to a month after it was available for purchase back in june. I bought my tablet back in May when it first came out. However, I would still agree that a nexus 7 would be a good purchase if you just want to use a tablet for reading PDFs. Actually the Nexus 7 2013 edition is on sale for $159 on Ebay. The Nexus is still Googles current-gen device as of now and has many accessories and what not available, while it took months before I could even buy a cheap case for this tablet ( Better cases and accessories are out now, just not a plethora made specifically for the Tab4).

What is your device model? My tab is the 8 inch one. The 8 and 10 have similar specs and processor whereas the 7" tab has a marvel based processor and thus is different methodology to root.
Also, Yes I did update to latest firmware on my tab. Opened the box, ran updates, and rooted all about 3 days ago.

thx for replying, mine is the 7 inch SM-T230, guess i will wait awhile
I do too know if I am speaking out of place, but can you return it and get the 8? Fr9. What is love ready Modders are having issues with the 7. The 8 and 10 are where it's at. I believe the 7 will always be sluggish.

yeah its a gift from the telephone company, if i get to pick i prolly will go with the 10 inch one, or the new sony z3tc
Ah, you might be out of luck until they can find a better root method for the marvel processor in your model..
Thiugh, reportedly if you go to the towel root thread it has worked for 7 inch users.

Yoga Tab 2 - worth pickin' up?

I'm looking for a cheap replacement for a Nexus 7 (2013) whose wifi was horrible and eventually died. I see that the Yoga Tab 2 8" seems to be rootable (from what i see in the forums), but no real rom development (locked bootloader?).
Will it run as well as a N7, is the stock Lenovo rom really bad/bloated?
Thanks

Is the yoga book worth buying in 2020

Hello there
I have been searching around to buy a tablet mostly for home use,my wife is going to be using it most of the times for some googling, emails ,pdf etc. I found a really good deal in a refurbished android version yoga book but I'm not that sure if it's worth nowadays since as I have read it only updated to android 7. Is she going to have issues with some apps like Facebook, insta, netflix?
Thank you in advance
I have this unit for 3 years now and it’s still working.
From the beginning it had problems, for example it shuts down and reboot from time to time, when you want to cast something it freezes and some apps don’t work anymore. For googling and emails I don’t have any problem.
Would I recommend a Lenovo unit? I won’t, because they never given updates or solved the software problems.
I have a yoga book and my co-worker’s have an Android pro tablet from Lenovo and they also never received a update. The hardware is good but you never get an update even not a security update. I hope it help with your decision.
Greetings

Those, probably not, but I can't get modern casual games like merge dragons to run on the stupid thing. So if she plays that kind of game, it might not be the way to go.
As i am enthusiast on modding stuff, i like my hardware open to custom stuff. While the lenovo is not closed (you can unlock the bootloader) we had a dead scene. So i would not recommend this piece of hardware. In XDA your better strategy is to search on for devices that the community is alive AKA: popular devices and brands, like Samsung or Sony. Cause even if the moto maxx was spec wise MUCH better than the Xperia Z3 on paper, we had a different story here, the xperia comunity was skyrocketing and doing great where the moto maxx was a zombie device at its best.
TL : DR If you don't need to debloat it or do anything special to it its kinda of a solid device .
