On my Galaxy S2 I used to be able to root (and unroot) by loading into the recovery console and from their temporarily loading cwm and from their loading either a root or unroot zip. The advantage of this was that no counters were increased etc and the phone would remain on a stock kernel with stock firmware. Anyone know if any such method exists for the S5?

If I root using method 2, will I be able to receive official updates OTA? being that I want to keep my tablet pretty much stock, except having the ability to install root only apps. If I can't receive firmware updates OTA, what procedures will I have to do in order to do that?

If you want to keep your stock recovery, use the [RECOVERY][RootGuide][ALL NOTE 10.1]Darkman`s Unofficial CWM Recovery Touch 6.0.2.7 Guide. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2102677
Follow the instructions til step 22:
On Step 22, "go back and reboot system", Press YES, this will Nuke the "CWM Recovery Touch 6.0.2.7" and revert you back to the STOCK recovery.
This way, your stock recovery is kept, and you also have root.
Uhhh you can just use http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1957002 it is stock recovery with root.
The CF-Root method says it will increase the Flash Counter by 1.

Using this root increases your flash counter. You should run Triangle Away (see below) after rooting to reset the counter. Note that if you want to run custom kernels or custom recoveries, your flash counter will be set to 1 at every boot. Either configure Triangle Away to reset the counter at every boot (Play version only) or only reset the counter when you need to go into warranty.

The method I mentioned above did not increase the flash counter. So no need for even Triangle Away.
Hi, I accidently rooted and installed cwm on my galaxy s4 gt i9-505, without disabling knox, and now I want to go back to the orginal samsung bootloader, (I don't not want to know how to get the stock firmware), I want to unroot and restore the bootloader, really need help asap, would be apperiated thanks.
Update: I'm on Android L 5.0.1, and installed cwm before rooting which was a silly mistake, because knox then countered that, and it's conflicting root problems when I tryed to root afterwards, but now I just want to go back to the Samsung bootloader, root issue fix but still don't know how to fix bootloader.
Not sure what is there to fix - if phone boots correctly it is good.
If you try to revert back to knox 0x0 I'm afraid it is not possible.
Flashing root and cwm doesn't replace your bootloader
How do you accidentally flash root and a customised recovery?

You are really mixing things up.
A custom recovery has nothing to do with Knox. A custom recovery gives no problems with Knox. It's impossible.
You are on the samsung bootloader. You cannot change it to a custom (there isn't even any).
If you want root just flash cf auto root and then delete knox. That's all.
Hello there!
I'm new to the Samsung's world so I have few questions I hope someone can answer.
1, I am a fan of stock kernel and I noticed TWRP has a recovery and there is a No root method mentioned using Odin.
https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys6edgeplus.html
So if I flash this recovery and flash the SU will the device boot? So do I need the custom kernel to get the phone booted with custom recovery?
2, I hear we will trip the Knox in the process of root. Do I lose Knox functionality? Since I use Knox for my company apps I would like to know if I would lose that functionality ?
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 i337 with the oc4 bootloader running android 5.0.1. I'm seeking help on how to flash a custom ROM onto this device. It seems that it's very difficult to install a custom recovery onto the device, as it has a locked bootloader.
I've been reading up here on XDA and it seems the only possible way to do anything is to root it, but the only method I've used in the past to root phones was simply flashing root.zip in a custom recovery. I have seen a program called KingRoot that is apparently able to root the device on 5.0.1, however, I do not have much confirmation and it seems a slight bit sketchy. Even after rooting, I'm not sure of whether or not I'd be able to install a custom recovery and a custom rom from there.
The other thing I have seen is Safestrap. However, I do not know if it works with the oc4 bootloader. I have read this guide on XDA titled "Odin to Stock, Updating, Rooting, and Safestrap Guide" however, it doesn't really tell me the process of installing Safestrap onto a 5.0.1 device. If I "odin back to stock" to an earlier version of android, will I be able to then root and install custom recovery or Safestrap more easily? Link:

TL;DR: what's the easiest way to install custom ROMs onto the i337 Galaxy S4 running Android 5.0.1 with the oc4 bootloader?
I wouldn't reallly recommend kingroot.
And rooting your phone does not allow you to install a custom recovery. In fact, those are two different things which are non-dependent of each other.
To install a custom recovery and rom you will probably need to unlock the bootloader. Something about loki patching it.
Very new to rooting. and trying to learn and tinker.
Purchased Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8.0/SM-T350NZAAXAR wifi only.
Performed updates and am on 6.01
Rooted it by following these instructions (http://www.droidviews.com/root-galaxy-tab-a-8-0-and-install-twrp-sm-t350-t355-sm-p350-p355/)
Downloaded and then removed an app to confirm that tablet is rooted.
Did not realize that I had Knox --- did not even know about Knox and when I reboot. I get a yellow message in left corner
Set Warranty Bit - Kernel --- not a big deal since it is not under warranty anyhow. Are there ways to reset this?
Questions/need explanation and/or links to explain
? How do I use the TWRP recovery to make a backup ---
? How do I use the TWRP recovery to go back to the stock version I had ---can that be done?
? Is it safe to use the unroot in SU Superuser ---not that I want to ---just learning and want to know.
? I can no longer update via normal channels because it now says custom ----so to update is it always via flashing using Odin?
? Where do I find custom ROM's for my device and do I flash using Odin?
? What is the difference between Odin and Kies?
? Is there a list somewhere of what system apps are safe to delete?
