I am using a Samsung SM-G7109 (China Telecom). I downloaded Towelroot, but it just resets my phone each time (which the app says indicates a failure to root). Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance!!!

UPDATE:
I have managed to root the China Telecom Gaxay Grand 2 SM-G7109!!!
Many thanks to @mjcaballero on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gal...ot-flash-ittowelroot-v3-t2802021#post54618106
Using Towelroot v3 (https://towelroot.com/) and the modstrings functionality (https://towelroot.com/modstrings.html), I was able to input the modstring:
Code:
1337 0 0 0 4 0
and boom the device was rooted!
Here is the text from https://towelroot.com/modstrings.html if you do not feel like clicking:
== Introducing modstrings! ==
Modstrings are a way to modify the exploit parameters for your obscure phone.
This is only if your device can't be towelrooted.
Click "welcome to towelroot v3" 3 times and enter text.
1337 method(0-3), align(0-1), limit_offset(0-8191), hit_iov(0-7), temp_root(0-1)
method: which syscall is used in the blocking thread, try them all
align: which alignment to use for the iovs, try them all
limit_offset: 0 is probably the right value here, otherwise close to the samsung value and a multiple of 4
hit_iov: which iov to overwrite to cause block
temp_root: do a temp root putting su and daemonsu in /sbin, good for HTC and Motorola, doesn't fix exploit
To fix, align and method are probably your best bet(4*2=8 values), hit_iov maybe, limit_offset if you are desperate.
== Examples ==
Most phones: "1337 0 1 0 4 0"
New Samsung: "1337 0 1 7380 4 0"
Temp root: "1337 0 1 0 4 1"

An even easier way that I just tried;
open terminal emulator
type su <enter>
you should see a hash tag (#)
then type setenforce 1 <enter>
reboot and see if the unlock symbol is gone. It went away for me right away. if i change it to setenforce 0 the symbol comes back.

You neglected to give us much information, crucial details that would allow us to confirm or narrow down much.
At a guess you have a firmware build dating after June 3rd which closed the exploit vulnerability that allows Towel root to work. There are numerous threads about this, which means that you probably didn't do a forum search or read many threads about Towel root. That is a bad habit and it would be in your best interests to do a search before posting.
In any event, if your firmware postdates June 3rd, then use Odin to write a pre June 3rd build of 900F 4.4.2 firmware to your phone. Then Towel root should prevail.

Galaxy Note 3 first time rooter
Hi everyone, newcomer here. Thanks for providing this community to help people out and thanks to Chainfire for making CF-Auto-Root.
I have a Galaxy Note 3, and I've never rooted before because I really like Touchwiz and the useful features it provides. I've read the main post for CF-Auto-Root, so I understand this is supposed to be the easiest root method that's supposed to retain stock Touchwiz and nothing more.
Before I take the plunge, I just wanted to clarify my understanding to make sure I really do want to go ahead with rooting my Note.
1. When you say CF auto root is rooting my phone, does that mean it's just achieving a "state of being" with the phone, and not really installing or modifying anything else with Touchwiz (besides SuperSU)? As in, everything is the same as before, Touchwiz is the same as before, and the only thing different is that I've gained permission to access more things in the software?
2. My understanding is that I shouldn't lose any data, apps, home screen app layouts, etc?
3. Will I lose any functionality in Touchwiz? Like S-Pen features, Samsung apps, etc?
4. If I receive an update to 4.4.4 or 5.0, will I lose this cf-auto-root state?
Thanks everyone for helping out!

CF-Auto-Root flashes custom recovery, which installs the su binary and SuperSU application and then sets back the default stock recovery. Everything else remains unchanged, including TouchWiz.

Most likely, though there is a chance, that su binary will not be removed, in that case you keep the root.
Hi, I have a Note 3 model number SM-N9005 which is factory unlocked with no carrier on 4.4.2 in the UK.
I'm trying to root using the CF auto root thread instructions here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2466423
I am unsure what file to download and was wondering if this one would work with my phone?
It is the second download option listed in the third post of the CF auto root thread.

Thanks for any help.

Yes it is. That download is for Note 3 with Device Type = hlte and Product Name = hltexx.
Just to make sure, as the download is based on Device Type and Product Name, check these info for your device with this app: Phone INFO ★Samsung★ (in GENERAL INFO section).

Hello everyone I am new to rooting phones and I was looking into CF-Auto Root since it is said to be beginner friendly. I was wondering if using this method would wipe my phone of everything I had on it or would it just give me root access while leaving everything else on the phone the same.

I know XDA is a reputable site, so I don't have to worry as much, but I know that theoretically speaking, downloading things outside of the official Android app store poses a risk for being malware or spyware.
So I'm only asking this in the spirit of just practicing utmost caution, how would I know that the CF-Auto-Root file, which can be found through the link below, is genuine and untampered with?

Root on 4.4.4 Kitkat

So in the Note 4 Dev page "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60610290&postcount=173" they have achieved root on KK (4.4.4) by using King Root. Unfortunately due to the status of the locked boot loader on the Note 4, it is only temp and will unroot the phone after a reboot. Has anyone with a Note 3 tried using King Root yet? And if so, do you only have temp root like the N4?
King Root works on generic 32 bit phones. Note 3 is a 32-bit phone
Instructions w/APK from another post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=60612907&postcount=183
It failed on 4.4.4 NK1.
After the reboot, the app ran again automatically but failed again.
Now I'm uninstalling the app.

I have been reading up on the Note 4 forum on Xda and people are saying that it may take couple tries before root access is granted. *Must be online for the app to work, as it connects to their servers to see what exploits can be used to root the phone.
I m on 4.4.4 NJ6, i tried to root with kingroot but it seens that doesn't work
can also confirm that nk1 it did not work. I've even gone as far as trying the pingpong root and the root that the xperia recently got. We are all desperate.
Have any of you guys try opening king user after using kingroot and grant root permissions to something like root checker or does the app just fail while trying to obtain root?

I can second that.
I can third that
kingroot wasn't able to root it in either attempt I made, 4.4.4 or 5.0 . I tried with both the android apk and the pc version. Its possible that it requires multiple attempts (its all in chinese so who knows what exploits it is trying)
I just got a replacement device and it came with 4.4.4 so I am hoping to find something to root. there doesn't seem to be anything that works yet.

Thanks for the update on your attempts, ACalcutt.
That's right, it is in Chinese. Who here can read it? I, for one, am curious to learn which exploits it is attempting.
Any updates on this? I have an opportunity to get a Note 3 with NJ6 on it for free from a friend... will Kingroot work? I've kept my finger on the pulse of the Note 4 forums, and I'd do kingroot and then supersume, if it would work.
Thanks!

Unable to add this recipient. The recipient's number is not valid error any solution?

For years android user. I have encountered with the same problem for the first time. I've newly upgraded to lollipop 5.1.1 from 5.0.1 note 4 910c . Using xposed and rooted. Installed talexop_Kernel_N910C_5.1.1_C0I4_v1.05 kernel.
I know the problem is kernel or xposed or root but I dont know where it is exactly. I tired to install firmware and root and xposed more than 50 times for week. Dont want to try the same things from the beginning.
Waiting à working solution.
I found out something new. Here in my country the phone number format is like this 0543 455 4455. If I remove 0 from the beginning of any number and save it to the contacts the message can be sent. Otherwise not. But without 0, numbers are invalid here. What does this show? Any idea?
By the way I use note 4 910cq turkey official firmware but its the same as 910c. If you suggest to try any firmware and kernel for rooting I would be thankful.
Lastly, in some pages when they write how to root they are talking about bootloader to flash it. Is it necessary. I myself first install firmware through odin then install n910c-cwm-recovery-6.0.5.1 and from phone flash SpaceX-Kernel-v0.2_N910C(Dev) or talexop_Kernel_N910C_5.1.1_C0I4_v1.05 then flash xposed as I do with kernel. I think this is the right way?
