Update Baseband from MK6 to NE1 ? - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Okay....Feedback appreciated : I was on a 4.3 ROM running basebandI i337MVLUEMK6. I then installed both Hyperdrive and
GoldenEye. Little did i know, I was on GSM NOT LTE. So.....I believe this is my issue.
The newer 4.4.2 factory firmware is NE1. So what do I do to get on LTE Rogers? How can I update to the latest
baseband without locking myslef out of Root access and custom roms?
Thanks
DSSKing (Still very frustrated)

Anyone.?

Look for and download the file ending in .tar for Rogers or any canadian S4. They all use the same radio.
Use ODIN to install in Download Mode (Power button + volume down)
Use the PHONE option for radio on ODIN.
Check your “Baseband version” under About->Settings, after installation
If your radio version hasn’t changed, try re-flashing with ODIN but with “Auto Reboot” unchecked.

Thank you for the reply. Baseband is currently i337MVLUMK6. What SHOULD it be? I am connected now on
4G service.......

The current baseband for Canadian phones is NE1. You will have to download the latest firmware file for NE1. (I337MVLUFNE1)
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin zip-file
Open Odin v3.09
Reboot phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait a few minutes

Great. Thank you!
Once complete, will this lock the phone from being rooted or will it KEEP ROOT?
Thanks

You will have to re-root. You can use towelroot to ROOT the phone. Very easy and convenient.

Thank you. Much appreciated. I'll let you know how it goes.

check the bootloader you have and flash the .tar firmware using odin.
get this app called phone info from the market "link"
check the bootloader : MF9, MDL, MK2
after that look for the firmware.tar that matches your bootloader file and flash it using odin, it will wipe your phone clean! once you get the samsung and sprint boot logo you may get stuck on that. since your phone is not longer rooted use the stock recovery " power + Vol up " to clean cache and do a data wipe. and reboot. once the phone boots you can root and start all over. :highfive:

You will not be able to get the ota or kies updates since your phone is rooted.
The best way to get the latest 4.4 Kitkat firmware is to go to SamMobile.com
and find the SM-N9005 official odin flash rom/firmware for your phone.
Good luck!

No offense but this is the worst kind of people here...people who root their phones without reading every single important thread carefully, ending up messing their phone up and blaming it on their "new-ness", so we gotta spoonfeed them.
Regardless, go to Sammobile and download an N9005 stock ROM for your region. Then use Odin to flash it. Check using that app above to make sure you have an N9005 bootloader (first four characters are N9005) to make sure you have an N9005 or you'll end up with a brick. Or you could go to the flashable modems thread and flash an MJ3 N9005 modem in Odin.

You have to install SuperSU from the Play Store, and grant root permission for this app to work.
Otherwise it will wait for the permission accepting, once your phone has been rooted.

Setting up Odin :
1. Make sure you have installed the Samsung usb drivers for windows.
2. Run Odin as administrator in windows.
Add the TAR/MD5 file in the PDA section/slot in odin.
4. Now that Odin is setup, put the phone in download mode and connect usb cable.
Power off the phone then press 'home+power+volume down' buttons at the same time.
Keep the buttons pressed till Download mode appears.
5. Now that Odin and the phone are setup, connect the usb cable from phone to computer.
Odin will detect the device and show something like [com:4l]
6. Click START in Odin.
7. The flash will take 5 minutes for a full flash on average
8. When the flashing is complete, DO NOT disconnect usb until Odin shows ' PASS '.
9. The phone will reboot. Unplug usb cable from phone and computer then go into
recovery mode and select "factory/data reset".
That's it. Happy flashing ..!!
The SM-9005 4.4.2 Kitkat firmware from sammobile comes with the Odin Windows utility.
Unzip the zip file from Sammobile into a new empty folder in your windows desktop and
you will see the TAR/MD5 firmware file and you will see Odin after unzip is completed.
You will need to create a free account on Sammobile to be able to download
the SM-N9005 Kitkat 4.4.2 official firmware zip file.
Just follow the step by step instructions above.
Good luck!

Can you please link the guide you have followed?
What black edition version do you have? I9500 or I9505, i understand there are 2 versions depending on region.
Is the bootloader unlocked?
What version Odin are you using?
Remember to reboot into recovery by holding volume up while turning power on after flashing.
Holding volume down gives you download mode.
Did you put the recovery package in the PDA tab?
I use odin 3.07 and used the guide of philz. I tryed with auto reboot and without auto reboot on odin, i put the tar.md5 file on pda without anything else. The only other option ticked was f.reset time.

Noone knows anything? Please help, I can't do anything with the phone in this state. I can't install the official firmware nor the recovery too.
Uncheck auto-reboot in Odin.
if problem persists:
Different usb cable
Different usb port
Make sure Kies is not running in the background.
Already done all that stuff,
Any other suggestions?

Hi. I have a NOTE 4 running ANK4 android 4.4 rooted with CWRP.
My question is: In order to flash a STOCK 5.0.1 tar from sammobile, what are the steps I need to follow?
Do I simply have to get the tar file and flash it through Odin?
Do I have to unroot/remove custom recovery first?
Do I have to factory reset and reset cache?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

hi,
your first question is correct
if you flash you will automatically lose root and recovery.. (no need to unroot and remove custom recovery..)
read my post #2 in this thread.. see link
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3068738
for snapshot and more details
lastly it up to you if you want to factory reset etc.. it is not necessary
good luck
Download the file from www.samfirmware.com, make sure you have the CORRECT firmware for your SPECIFIC phone model.
While you are on the download page, there is an instruction, which I copied below:
Instructions:
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.09
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v.3.09
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA
Make sure re-partition is NOT ticked
Click the start button, sit back and wait few minutes
You don't need to root or do anything, just MAKE SURE that "Reactivation Lock" under Settings>Security is DE-ACTIVATED.
You don't necessarily have to do a Reset, but if you are having problems with force closing apps, battery drain etc... then do a Reset.
Good luck

i9505 still stuck at 4.2.2! Says "latest update installed". Help!

Hi guys,
I got this phone about 2 years back from a store in the middle east and it turned out later that this device was actually from a swiss carrier - Swisscom. It was unlocked so it didn't really matter at the time. Ever since then it hasn't updated to any of the latest android versions. It always says "latest updates installed", even with Kies. It wasn't really an issue before, but now a lot of apps just crash constantly. Anyone knows how to fix this?
If the phone is not in its home region it won't get updates. Download one of the unbranded ROMs from sammobile.com and flash it via Odin.
Look for the latest rom on sammobile.com and flash via Odin.

What if I want to install CM? Should I follow the same steps and just change the file chosen to CM? Or there's something else to be done too? These were the instructions:
Extract (unzip) the firmware file
Download Odin v3.11.1
Extract Odin ZIP file
Open Odin v3.11.1
Reboot Phone in Download Mode (press and hold Home + Power + Volume Down buttons)
Connect phone and wait until you get a blue sign in Odin
Add the firmware file to AP / PDA - right here? I'll chose CM firmware. Will that do?

No. Flashing a custom ROM (CM) is a completely different procedure. There are guides online.
For cm, you should flash twrp via Odin. After flashing Odin, you can save the cm rom to the phone's internal or external memory, boot into twrp, and flash cm and gapps from twrp.
Personally, with all the bugs Cyanogenmod has in it, I'd rather flash AOSP on the S4. But that has nothing to do with your actual question, which @audit13 answered succinctly in the previous post.
Alright, thank you guys! I've decided to go with the official firmware, as given on sammobile. Just one last question. On sammobile there are various versions for my phone. Should I be downloading the "Swisscomm" variant again? I'm in the US now and I don't want to be stuck without an update. Can I install the US version? Or even an open international version, so that I don't get stuck again.
