oh sure! no problem.
Does this allow us to get OTA in the future? I seem to recall we need everything, including the kernel, to be stock to receive OTA's in the future. Does this root method mess with the kernel?
Nice, what do you think about the performance and the graphics on the table ?, did you recommend to change for the shield portable to the tablet ?, seriously i dont know what to do, i love my shield portable but i want to have the latest tegra

I made a quick spreadsheet with a few benchmarks. Check out the 3dMark FPS for your answer. Graphics wise it is much better.
Awesome. Can't wait to go home and root this bad boy. BTW is there gonna be a dedicated for for this. This looks like a promising device and I believe a lotta devs are gonna get their hands on this.
Thanks! Root and SU installation went very smoothly.

Just compiled the kernel from the EB13 source. I noticed some drivers for TV-out being made.. Dont want to create any false hope but maybe this release can get us some nice features.
sounds good to me! Tv-out would be amazing for this phone!

There are tv out drivers in the old versions too.
I though maybe there had been. Maybe they can get them working in 2.2.
If you browse on your phone's root to
/sys/devices/platform/s5p-tvout
you'll find several files. Is this the same thing you came across?

I thought the device is hardware limited in the sense that the 3.5mm jack is missing the required connections to do TV-Out?
There are some people over in the dev section who felt there was a good reason to try and get it working.. After looking into the source code a bit deeper, it seems the last changes to any of the driver files (tv-out and hdmi are both mentioned) was in November. So they havent really done much to it recently.

hey guys
im thinking of possibly buying the vega but wanted to know if theres any chance of it getting honeycomb?
The Froyo build on the Vega is AOSP (slightly modified) using the Nvidia reference libs. So until Honeycomb hits AOSP even the OEM doesn't know how it will work. When they do know they will tell the rebadgers (POV/Advent/etc) and then we may find out.
Unofficially we'll probably know shortly after Honeycomb drops in AOSP because we'll try to get a build running.
I have been holding off myself as it doesnt look to be running that great even on the cooked ROMS. I have been stung before waiting for a ROM upgrade or fix that never came. Not going to buy this until it gets a decent honey rom.
Well, mine runs great. Bang for buck, im super happy.
Performance is good n fast, and it does what i need it to do. Not sure where you got the idea it doesnt run well.
Id love to see honeycombe etc, but if they dont appear for the vega, ill still be happy with it.
Dont be off put due to lack of a particular rom

Then save your cash for another tablet. You know the old tale of buying a device for what it is supposed to be able to do in the future and not for what it does now? It tends to have sad endings

It runs just perfectly fine on the default roms and addons imo. It should be able to run honeycomb and I think it will in time... but there are no guarantees.
It's a fine device as it is now already though.
I've been playing around now for a day with my Vega. A very good device for it's budget!
getting honeycomb would be the ultimate treat for this sweet tablet
Let's just hope for now..

building as we speak, going to go to sleep and see what pops out in the morning
I compiled, and I made a zip, but my result was a very buggy ICS rom wasn't usable and then I had no recovery, so i'm stock as store bought now. I might try again. By the way someone already made an ota package, it had 4g featured in it but he didn't have 4g available?
Cm9 build is working well for ns4g but i know there is no superuser so dont touch it unless you know adb really well for system mods.

whats the minimum req. for a computer to make roms? I have a netbook running windows 7 with 1.2 ghz i3, 2gb ram. will that work? I really want to get into deving.
p.s. My netbook was free. (not really free had to seed a guys lawn for it....lol)
Maybe it will be easier to rebuild from CM9 Alpha. OTA doesn't have face unlock and some other features. I'm being told android beam won't work either. but it's very fast

There isn't any real minimum. But, to make ROM's in half an hour you need 2x4Core Intel Xeon's with 24GB of RAM and 250GB Hard Drive. Or something like that.

I havent' flashed it yet, my first time around, the first build booted but it wasn't good..very buggy.
Just got this A500, my wife also has one and hers runs much smoother after this latest update... Kinda choppy initially... But she took the ota, as she is not really for rooting and modifying.
I was considering rooting my tablet but wondered what the benefits were... I know Cell phone has wifi tether and other goodies, but I didn't really know what I would be gaining. I haven't taken any ota updates a of yet.

Performance and battery life increase, removing annoying stock apps, being able to customize the theme and boot animation, easily backup all your apps and the data for them with titanium backup, being able to use root only apps such as adblock and sixaxis (use a ps3 controller to play games). And a couple more im sure .
Ok I need the performance increase, the A500 lags slightly. the last ota gave my wifes tablet a big boost but it also changed the bootloader or something so now it requires a different rooting method.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
Overclocking and increasing the speed/performance of the A500 was my primary goal for rooting. The lag and stutter between screens and when opening programs and scrolling through menus was unbearable.
So now Im rooted, and running whatever roms I can get my hands on (totally addicted).

Almost night and day. Scrolling is so much smoother with performance scaling set and super stable running at 1504mhz on the lastest Epiphany 3.2.1 rom.
Using 2.6.36.3HoneyVillain-3.7+ kernel.
Also the security features of Apps such as LBE privacy guard - blocks permissions I don't like when I install a new app...

I am a developer myself, I am writing this now as I build a shield tablet kernel....will be releasing that too, but I was just asking how you did it, what the process was, so I could try myself (as a developer) -- it's not that I want an unfinished product and really want you to port&release gmod, I am interested in how you programmed it.
Either way, cheers. Look forward to seeing your thread once development kicks off....it feels super lonely being a shield tab developer because there's like 3 others who all maintain stuff for other devices

Awesome. Looks like you've streamlined the port and installation, what kind of bugs are you tackling?
Come to think of it, us who are actually building stuff and getting the latest nvidia source and seeing what we can do with it....we should really have a chat or something. Do you have a skype or something maybe we can make a group for the 5 of us?
Wow this is awesome!!! Does this work with a bluetooth keyboard and mouse? Also, I know these ports run on different architectures, but do you think the Shield port could play online against PC users?

Maybe with the unofficial hacked versions of the game on PC. To play with the mainstream game, you need Steam integration
(SteamID, Steamworks, etc....), which is impossible since there is 0 Steam support for Android (Steam app doesn't include support for games).
But LAN should be possible in the long run.
