I'm compiling on my Intel i3 4gb of RAM laptop, will let you know how it goes. However, I suggest people who are waiting to build an ICS rom (like myself) wait until superuser gets an update.

building as we speak, going to go to sleep and see what pops out in the morning
I compiled, and I made a zip, but my result was a very buggy ICS rom wasn't usable and then I had no recovery, so i'm stock as store bought now. I might try again. By the way someone already made an ota package, it had 4g featured in it but he didn't have 4g available?
Cm9 build is working well for ns4g but i know there is no superuser so dont touch it unless you know adb really well for system mods.

Who did this? Is it available? I'm searching everywhere for a compiled 4.0.3 ROM for NS4G.
Not that I know of, i'm compiling again but I made a mistake, I forgot to add the proprietary drivers.
I look forward to hearing good news from you! (After you start compiling again.)
I just started compiling again, I haven't slept yet. Sometimes if you don't want to wait, you might have to try yourself. Hopefully there will be good news, after I flash.

whats the minimum req. for a computer to make roms? I have a netbook running windows 7 with 1.2 ghz i3, 2gb ram. will that work? I really want to get into deving.
p.s. My netbook was free. (not really free had to seed a guys lawn for it....lol)
Maybe it will be easier to rebuild from CM9 Alpha. OTA doesn't have face unlock and some other features. I'm being told android beam won't work either. but it's very fast

There isn't any real minimum. But, to make ROM's in half an hour you need 2x4Core Intel Xeon's with 24GB of RAM and 250GB Hard Drive. Or something like that.

I'm no longer working on this. I've tried, failed, and moved on. It seems that some other folks have had some success. Maybe they will continue on. Between work, family, college, etc. it's obvious that I'm getting nothing done on this.
This is an attempt at taking the work being done for the heroc here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=911828 and porting it to the Eris.
Honestly, I know enough to be dangerous and that's about it. The HeroC (sobe and those thanked in the post linked to above) folks and those upstream from there are doing most of the work. So, thank you to them.
If anyone would like to help, please do. That's the main reason that I'm posting this now. The kernel doesn't even compile at this point, much less boot. (It's hard to boot something that doesn't exist. )
Source: https://github.com/gnarlyc/cm-kernel
So far, here's what I've done.
1) forked sobe's repo
2) copied the heroc board files, renamed the copies to *desirec*, and changed all instances of HEROC to DESIREC and heroc to desirec inside the files
3) started removing heroc touchscreen stuff and adding desirec touchscreen stuff
Why am I doing this?
1) learn more about kernels
2) use some that programming knowledge that I'm supposedly learning in class
3) get an updated kernel for the Eris
very nice, i do wish you luck.
Very good. Glad to see you working on this.

Any work still going on n with this?
This is what we would need to port over the new Hero Sensable Gingerbread right? Man if we could get this working, I would be about the happiest guy in the world
My final exam is on Wednesday of next week. So, I can promise that I will put much more effort into after that. I can't promise to get it working, but I'll definitely put a lot more time in. As I said before, if anyone wants to jump in and help, feel free. There's already one other person (breber) helping, but I think he's been in the same boat as me. So... Hopefully, he'll be able to help more after classes are over too.
Kernel updates are pretty much the only updates I ever care about.
Just an update. This hasn't been worked on as much as I hoped. However, I've had help from breber. Actually, he's made much more progress than I did. The kernel not only compiles, but it boots too! As soon as we can get the touchscreen working, it might even be usable.
Here's the current source.
https://github.com/breber/cm-kernel
If anyone else wants to take a stab at it, feel free. Our time is somewhat limited.
I've played around with adding the capella 3602 stuff back in, but it didn't seem to help with the touchscreen issue. The TS is one of the few components that are different between the HeroC and Eris.

So your moving on from this?
Here is a link to the ics update for the motorola xoom.
I have no idea if this is of any use to our developers but just thought it might in some way speed up the development of a fully working a500 ics custom rom.

there are already roms (or at least a rom) working fully except for the camera. Unless it has acer camera files, i doubt the xoom code will help much.

And you owe me personally, about well, a lot of beers. And not just any beer mind you, but I like really expensive beer
In fact, if one would calculate 12 beers per day @.5L per beer since the time he got HW Accel working, No green screens, and 85% of all functions working, you owe me about 457 beers, give or take. But I'm not greedy. I'll settle for an even 400 x.5L.
The Pure ICS rom 4.x, runs damn good. Only 3 or 4 things left. Most people are using it as a daily driver.
But now, "Iced" cube, if you don't come through with your wager, on open terms as you set, Well... that would be considered "welching" on a bet.
Welp, there goes my weekly wage...

Youre flashing a xoom rom? That might be the problem. There is an ics build mostly functional for our device a few pages in to the dev forum (where we are) or you can google thor and try his which afaik is just lacking camera and rotation lock.
Which ICS rom is everyone running?
Let me first start by saying the rom doesnt boot completely. It boots all the way to when the screen dims and vibrates, when it is about to display lockscreen.. Logcat shows everything installing and starting correctly.. It wasn't hard to get to this stage, so it gave me a little bit of confidence in this awesome project.. Froyo was my favorite android version, as it was a huge upgrade for my old hero.
I thought it would be hilarious to release cm6 for the nexus s, heck I would have run it for the rest of my nexus's lifetime.
So, let me know what you guys think.. keep digging around to get it booting or give up because its old news..
If anyone wants to help for just a fun proof of concept project, or just to poke around, lemme know, the more the merrier

LOL in this time and age running froyo is like going back to xp from windows 7. But yeah as a proof of concept its kind of interesting;-) What would be really interesting, is running gingerbread on the gnx

They are incompatibility. Because Nexus S is the first Gingerbread-device, Androi 2.3.0 is the lowest compatibly OS version.

Yes this is true, but the point is that its almost booting.. I knew this from the start, it will require back porting drivers and probably a few kernel edits, but it may be possible.. in the end its just Linux running on a few upgraded drivers and a few kernel changes..

Not without doing some back porting.
This is much easier to do from Gingerbread back to Froyo though, since you are building something to run on the same hardware and software stack (ARM and Android 2.x). The most difficult part would be getting drivers to work, but just as older drivers are made to work on new OS versions with shims and other tricks, in theory this is possible, if not a lot of work.
I'm not sure what will be gained though. Gingerbread didn't seem like a significant resource drain over Froyo, so I can't imagine there are any speed/power gains.

Hello,
XDA and other sites have broken news on new features in KitKat and one of them is that its made for wearable devices with as low as 512MB. Our Desire Z has 512MB so this will be great news Obviously our processor still lacks and GPU drivers are sticks and gum but something is better than nothing.
I was excited to hear this when I first read that about KitKat. I'm quite excited to see if anyone out there is gonna work on a ROM once everything needed to port it over is available.

The team at Cyanogenmod has commented that this wont mean a revivial of old devices since a lot of things (drivers) are needed besides RAM but needless to say in my opinion and seeing what Jelly Bean brought to the table, I think its a good sign of things to come.
Sadly, there are few really active developers on JB/Desire Z. Lets hope someone comes out with a KitKat ROM.
Speaking of KitKat, here is a lot of the stuff ripped from the Nexus 5 ROM, I personally have all of them running on CM10.1 Andromadous (I think that's the right spelling.) Hope it helps people! bit. ly /1arIQCU (via DroidLife)
I would be very surprised if Kit Kat is ported to this wonderful device. The fact that it has been ported anything beyond Ice Cream Sandwich is astonishing already, so whether they support Kit Kat or not I'd still be happy until a true hardware keyboard phone comes out.

I would be really happy to see KitKat ported over. I mean even if it isn't I'd be happy running either CM10.1 or the Gslim 1.6 ROMs, but I hope that since KitKat supports lower ram that it helps performance wise. I'm tempted to try and get into developing roms but I'm quite a newbie when it comes to that.
i hope that somebody make it for our device
I'm a newbie as well when it comes to development, but if i have the time and someone ports 4.4 to a similar device (desire HD perhaps) then i'll definitely attempt to port 4.4 to the g2. I love my old g2, when i had to send my GS3 back do to a defect in the screen I used my g2 for 2 weeks and was still impressed with how snappy it was. So yea, I may end up attempting a 4.4 rom at some point. I'll share it here and perhaps some of the better developers can take it and improve on it

I figured the cwm version that built worked with the new set_metadata in the updater-scripts for the 4.3 and up
I would like to help with, (attempt to) coordinate, and start the development efforts for KitKat/CM11 on the G2.
I can beta test, build, and debug/reverse-engineer where needed.
I'm getting a build environment prepared, so it will be a bit until I crank out builds.
Wouldn't it breathe new life into this wonderful device given the low ram requirements? I hope some of the amazing guys bringing the latest can work their magic and get 4.4 on here.

Pons said he would be working on it. And I am sure that tiny will help a little.

I'm sure we'll see kitkat eventually for the inc. I've been tinkering with it just a bit myself. At this point Evervolv has a kitkat branch for the inc, but it is not in a buildable state. Stuff is still changing so fast that there's not a lot of point in digging into it real deep just yet.
I'm very glad that Google have given the opportunity for low ram devices to Run KitKat.. I hope Pons or Tiny will make KitKat rom very soon..Inc is still breathing !!
CM 11 for HTC Incredible
HTC Incredible "S" have got an unofficial build of CM 11 which gives Android Kitkat ahead of CyanogenMod's official release. Incredible "S" got just a little bit of RAM more than the dinc.. I really hope that some creates a rom for dinc soon... Come on !!

They're not the same SOC so they're not that similar.
Also, this point sounds like begging or on the borderline of demanding. This device is nearly dead. There are nowhere near the resources there used to be.
With that said, the evervolv team is working on KitKat for similar devices. Inc support will probably be added once we can get it building.

Progress is being made. I was able to get it boot and with the current status of Evervolv and a few patches Nexus 1 already have wifi working but no data.

Thats great news !! I hope it will be ready soon !!
Just a heads up. I hope the developers will pay more attention towards the glitchy video Camera and the battery life.. I really hope Kitkat will be out soon..

This is not meant to be rude in any way but please just let them work. There is nothing that devs hate more than questions about release dates and notes on what you think they should be addressing. I'm more than impressed at the simple fact that tiny and pons are considering spending time on this ancient hardware.

Be glad the developers want to still work on ROMs. You could just buy a new phone if you want to not deal with bugs. Battery life is going to be best on this phone on CM7 or Sense. That's how it's going to be. The newer OS'es are a lot more resources intensive just to run things.
While asking is kind of pointless, if this could be made into a reality, a useable one at that, my god that would be awesome. Also, on an unrelated note, do you go to OSU?

Thanks for the update. At this point I'd love it even without data. It's my "tinkering around" device. Wi-Fi only and Bluetooth is all I use it for. Again, thanks for all the hard work you and others out into these devices.

I agree it's kind of a pointless question, but I was excited to see the low device requirements to get it up and running.
I am an Ohio State alum. Graduated from there 5 years ago.
While searching the forum for kit kat, I've found a build for the INC. Android 4.4 KitKat ! Yes ! by musical_chairs. Heres the link -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046220&page=52
Good luck.. I am just downloading the build..
By the way its not the official build !! Official build is yet to come !!
Can anyone find G-apps which will work with this build. I tried out a Gapps from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857 but it didnt work out. :crying:

The KitKat builds are bigger than the previous versions, so there's not much room left in the /system partition.
You'll need the GApps Core from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=9199
The core ones will give you just the basics to save space.
The full GApps won't fit on the small /system partition on our phone with the size of KitKat.
Thanks. So simply all i have is Playstore as an app and other stuff. The rest i will have to download right ? What about Google Experience Launcher (which replaces stock launcher) and other stuff like Google Keyboard ? In the official build will i be able to have the full G-apps ? Just a little clarification needed ? :silly:
So this is not the official release right ? I am really excited about this !! I just tried it out, it is damn snappy and super fast ! Great jobs devs !!
A few small probs i found are the videos are being recorded but is not shown in the gallery, And the external sd card is not shown (and cant access it)
By the way, dont think i am always complaining, i just saw some errors thats it, i hope they will be fixed on the official release..
Job well done Devs !! You gave a new life to my old play around device :highfive:
