Hello,
XDA and other sites have broken news on new features in KitKat and one of them is that its made for wearable devices with as low as 512MB. Our Desire Z has 512MB so this will be great news Obviously our processor still lacks and GPU drivers are sticks and gum but something is better than nothing.
I was excited to hear this when I first read that about KitKat. I'm quite excited to see if anyone out there is gonna work on a ROM once everything needed to port it over is available.

The team at Cyanogenmod has commented that this wont mean a revivial of old devices since a lot of things (drivers) are needed besides RAM but needless to say in my opinion and seeing what Jelly Bean brought to the table, I think its a good sign of things to come.
Sadly, there are few really active developers on JB/Desire Z. Lets hope someone comes out with a KitKat ROM.
Speaking of KitKat, here is a lot of the stuff ripped from the Nexus 5 ROM, I personally have all of them running on CM10.1 Andromadous (I think that's the right spelling.) Hope it helps people! bit. ly /1arIQCU (via DroidLife)
I would be very surprised if Kit Kat is ported to this wonderful device. The fact that it has been ported anything beyond Ice Cream Sandwich is astonishing already, so whether they support Kit Kat or not I'd still be happy until a true hardware keyboard phone comes out.

I would be really happy to see KitKat ported over. I mean even if it isn't I'd be happy running either CM10.1 or the Gslim 1.6 ROMs, but I hope that since KitKat supports lower ram that it helps performance wise. I'm tempted to try and get into developing roms but I'm quite a newbie when it comes to that.
i hope that somebody make it for our device
I'm a newbie as well when it comes to development, but if i have the time and someone ports 4.4 to a similar device (desire HD perhaps) then i'll definitely attempt to port 4.4 to the g2. I love my old g2, when i had to send my GS3 back do to a defect in the screen I used my g2 for 2 weeks and was still impressed with how snappy it was. So yea, I may end up attempting a 4.4 rom at some point. I'll share it here and perhaps some of the better developers can take it and improve on it

Desire Z has 384MB of RAM. Rest is allocated for video memory.
But not sure if there is a way to strip the video memory or even have dynamic vram.

Still, seeing as how smooth CM10.1 is even on our device, shows pretty good promise for KitKat in my opinion

I think it's fantastic, once in a while I'll come across a small little hiccup, but that's expected personally for a port. I would make it my daily driver but I use Gslim as my daily rom only for battery life because not around my charger much, otherwise I'd be running CM10

Oh oh oh, I understand what you meant now. I was still waking up when reading that, I'l use that as an excuse. I'm slowly teaching myself how to port over roms, I'm probably going to end up buying another secondhand G2/Desire Z as a test device so I don't bork the one that I use daily
cm11.0
I'm currently working on getting cm11.0 4.4 to build. I Had it built already and a new version of cwm recovery 6.0.2.8. The rom starts but there is no splash for the time being. Don't even have permission to view the log cat. Been working off of nevergone's stuff. What recovery version do you guys have?
For your guys proof

I'll upload the new cwm-recovery image on dropbox if anyone wants to try it out lol.

I can't get it to build anymore for some reason and I lost all my work I still have the zip but it doesn't boot. But I got
https dl dropboxusercontent com/u/70782275/cwm-recovery-6.0.2.8.img
I can't post in the dev side of the xda here but where can I find the work gits for someone working on cm11.0 for this device I'm trying to get this thing to work again. Also is there a irc room for the group?
I figured the cwm version that built worked with the new set_metadata in the updater-scripts for the 4.3 and up
I would like to help with, (attempt to) coordinate, and start the development efforts for KitKat/CM11 on the G2.
I can beta test, build, and debug/reverse-engineer where needed.
I'm getting a build environment prepared, so it will be a bit until I crank out builds.

There currently couple of ICS Roms now in our forum (MIUI, Virtuous, CM9, and CG). But my question is, I am a real beginner when it comes to phone system devs, so, when I tried all the newest version of each ICS Roms, I do not feel any major differences. The camera does not work, same issues with crashing, slowness, and etc. I am not complaining about the issues and bugs, but I am wondering what's the difference between each rom? Are there any major difference? And what are we expecting next for the rom? Camera?

OK first of all MIUI ICS is much different then the other ics roms there is more customization in a much easier way and a whole different experience even thought they come from the same source I believe. Now when is comes down to the difference between virtuous and CM9 is the mods and other stuff that you won't notice I personally like virtuous it looks more professional with the mods such as the setting toggle in the notification bar its just me. CG is more of a stock experience so you won't see any mods just pure stock experience. That's the major changes I see and with the bugs I don't really know but there all being worked on with pretty much Feb so if camera doesn't work with one it won't work with the other just give him time I'm sure its coming very soon

This is where I get partially confused, i was running MIUIce Cream Sandwich (ICS v4.0.1) and have had NO issues whatsoever, the camera works, video recording works, and it is fast as all get out (3200-3300 quad consistent o/c to 1.5GHz). I was trying (and failing thus far) to find the camera framework, and hardware ID information from this ROM and inject it into one of the new ICS ROMs we have available.
what all would i need to pull from MIUIce cream sandwich in order to get a working camera in any of the other ICS roms? i know at least i would need to pull the camera .so files from system/lib, but is there any other completely necessary files that should be pulled to get this to work?
im really hoping that a dev stumbles across this and could point me in the right direction, because the camera CAN work, and i have a feeling i am really close to getting it to work, but i don't have the know how (quite yet) of the more experienced devs here.
i really wish it was as easy as my GS4G was when GB ROM leaks started surfacing, that was a 5 minute fix once the right tools came along lol

I believe that you are running a hybrid version that isn't really ics if your camera is working. This would explain why you aren't having the same problems as others running ics roms.

foxxx50h, were you running the now discontinued Galnet Miui release? If so, I know what you mean. Since I was using that and it was great. The only serious glitch was that the market place crashed whenever you tried to preview the pics.
If you want something like that, Dark_Sys released a newer version, but it reads a GB code and not ICS. And it's quite good and stable. Everything works too. Super great on battery.

Then you can buy a Gnex or wait I know I'm starting to envy the Gnex. I'm just waiting for the HTC Ville which (Should) be unveiled at MWC towards the end of this month..It should be an absolute BEAST
i've been using creamed glacier since december as a daily. two main issues on it are the camera and low mic volume - though that comes and goes.
quattro was a mess for me. once booted the setup routine would crash out and widgets would constantly crash the launcher no matter what i tried.
testing out cm9 right now. big problem is that launcher (NOVA even) crashes a lot. otherwise call volume is great. runs decent. one great thing there is that it actually contacts google and restores apps. plus i received an email from google congratulating me on my purchase of a galaxy nexus

OK I have been reading threads in this forums and I'm sorta lost and annoyed. I read a thread saying that an official update for ICS can brick your phone so you need to do a full reset or something like that. I am confused as to why an official release 'might brick your phone' and I 'should proceed with cautions'. An official release of any OS should be stable and shouldn't cause such issues right?
I am pretty upset that ICS is still yet released for Galaxy Note, not talking about the prototype but the full software and still with the prototype it is 'risky' to update. Honestly I don't bother with custom OS, I prefer official releases and just have it rooted but now I am looking towards 'PARANOIDANDROID' rom, though I haven't flashed it because I'm waiting for it to be updated (so it can play MP4 and other stuff) but still its released faster than the official full ICS and has several features the android people should have added in the begining that are not added to ics. (Only one thing is PA doesn't have SNOTE which is kinda essential to the phone and I don't think the devs will add it) So because of this I also find it really dumb that our warranty is voided if we flash a custom firmware.
I am really confused as to what is happening and am I wrong at some part, can some one explain and post your thoughts about this topic. My point of this thread is just to ask about the 'may brick your phone' part and to see what you guys think about this entire thing with android and their prototypes instead of official releases and cfw. I truely blame android's (or samsung) latesness in releasing the OS for people opting for custom roms than sticking to the official ones. Android really has so much potential since it is 'open' unlike iOS but they are not bringing their A game to the table.

thank you kvsandeepreddy for clearing up my doubts, I flashed v1 of PA but lacked a few stuff and am so glad to see v2, but I doubt you can play mp4 files on the stock video player as android needs to release their source code and I really need that feature and hate other players, but anyway hope they would fix it all soon and port SNOTE (which I don't think they will but I keep saying it)
musashiro, I suspect you are still on GB like me and honestly I don't think it's worth it waiting for Samsung to release ICS, first they don't have an exact date for the full release and even if they did release a full update now, PARANOIDANDROID has soo many features that ICS lacks and won't be added.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802
You can check this page out, it is the ROM, it's super cool and it's screen shots looks promising, also PA has both tablet and phone mode. I find it hypocritical when Samsung promoted the NOTE as a 'Phone? Table?' and force us with a phone mode indirectly making it a phone and making us the same as other normal phone owners when we clearly aren't. So PA sorta fixes it and gives us both phone and tablet mode making it truly a 'Phone? Table?' allowing us to chose which mode we want.

Yea I guess your right, hard to please everyone. The entire aosp and aokp and others really confuse me but honestly from what I have seen so far, (alot of YouTube demos of roms) PA looks the best and the PAD on it is a big deal but I decided not to flash v0.2 yet and wait for some more updates as people are commenting on issues with battery and something about SD and internal cards being switched or something and other issues. I really want that rom but the issues people comment about are pretty crucial to be fixed especially battery so I guess I'll just wait for a more stable update. Is it wrong to say v1.0 is a real release and 0.2 is still beta??

Till now we all know that Android 4.1 Jellybeans is in slot now. Even SDK is out. Sources are not on-line though. But I believe it will be very soon.
Now it's a big question whether HTC HD2 can hold Jellybeans or not? As fas as information on net concern Yes we can see JellyBeans on our beloved HD2. As drivers are almost same so it wont be a big problem to port it in our phone. With only 5-6 major changes JB is almost same as ICS. Some new features are there in JB like Google NOW, Off-line voice text is very cool about JB.
So in short we will see JB as soon as they release source codes.
If you find anything interesting you guys can post here so that we can have faith that HD2 will have JB.
Happy Hacking.
A dump of 4.1 has alreaady been posted on the NAND Thread, about 5 hours before your post, so shouldn't be too long to see if it can be ported.
I will still stick with GB but I'm willing to try JB. I hope they have the fix for Netflix. ICS still have some problem.
No it doesn't, it's pretty much perfect. I personally have no flaws in my day-to-day ICS usage.

Don't get me wrong. I love Tytung's work as well. I flashed 4.04 just few hours ago because Netflix has a new update. I thought it will solve the problem and keep me from using ICS for good but still Netflix won't cooperate.

Very Nice Rom I Tried it now for 5 days its very stable :fingers-crossed:
Exactly what the thread title says...
As most of you should already be aware I have a gingerbread build that I try to provide something close to a monthly update on (plus or minus a few days). What I would like to know tonight is if y'all would like something similar with ICS?
Just like the gingerbread builds this won't have a lot of progression and I won't be trying to really create anything so much as compile y'all something (hopefully stable) to use if you so choose.
Assuming the answer to the first question is yes, do y'all have a preference for the build (cm9, aokp, etc)?
A release candidate of CM9 would be nice or if there's an ICS rom of ParanoidAndroid, then that would be great as well, I like having proper tablet UI for apps.
Has hash already updated his CM9 kernel?

Every enhancement
the sg7 enhancement, linaro, supercharge, oc'ed kernal
and nothing else.
Base it on the least flashy ROM. I want to change, and add in things as I see fit, and I want the most basic version of android to do it from. I want it the fastest it can go, so all the enhancements and nothing else added in.
You can port sense rom to our Kindle???
All of the roms I have tried have these really annoying bugs. In the ROM I have now, the WIFI keeps dropping, even when i'm in the middle of a download.
If you guys can make a simple, stable ROM without all the bells and whistles (swipe left, themes, etc), that would make me (and a lot of other people) very happy.

This is sort of where I was already leaning; was considering basing something off of the loosethiskin builds that TWA was providing before cm10 but I wanted some opinions first as just like my cm7 rom I won't be the one running it (I'm using cm10 and it's going to remain that way)

No; others may be capable and or willing to do this. I personally don't touch binary ports; partly cause I don't want to and partly cause I don't know how to do binary ports (I haven't researched it do to the fact that I just didn't want to do it; source code for me)

I haven't experienced any of those issues but one thing I can point out is wifi issues are most likely kernel related; I'm most definitely not a kernel dev so anything I do will have something close to hashcodes current kernel (assuming it won't work as is)
Hi Sblood,
Funny, I was just thinking about this today, wondering if anybody that's capable is willing to take the time to do this. While I'm pretty much satisified with my JB rom, I really like ICS and I was very happy with twa_priv's CM9 builds.
I watch a lot of video from CNN and that's flash, the JB roms are finally giving me pretty good performance with this but I also like to watch video from ESPN and I haven't figured out a way to get that to work. With ICS, it prompts you to choose a player to watch the videos, like MX Player or Dice Player, with JB, it just tells me that the content is unavailable. That's probably the biggest thing I miss from ICS. I still keep a nandroid of twa's last CM9 release under a different gmail address and update any apps from Play Store every couple of weeks and then I OD on ESPN vids & Flash stuff, tonight I had 17 apps to update. LOL
For me, it's a tradeoff of JB Google Now for ICS ESPN vids and I'd rather have ESPN videos. So, if you could use twa's CM9 build as a base and hook in Hashcode's newer kernels, say on a monthly basis, that would be awesome & most appreciated.
Thanks,
Mike T
So no new ICS ROM?

Sorry I've been busy and interest actually seemed much lower than I would have expected so it's been a somewhat lower priority.
I would still love to get it done (if for no other reason than we don't really have a stable/buildable version of ICS) but as it stands I've been having a few issues getting the ICS device repo updated to use the current kernel but I have been trying at least some.
I have to remind you it's the holiday season as well.
A good, stable, release candidate ICS ROM? I can see the appeal. I'd definitely give it a whirl. I'm starting to get tired of instability on a lot of ROMs.

Well I suggest you put in the work to correct them

You mean report bugs and stuff? Well, they wouldn't exactly be called bugs, more instability. For example, the android browser self closing itself every now and then.

That's a joke right; it's been 5 days since you asked this previously, it's still the holiday season and I haven't said anything in regards to something working so it must be I'm just not sure I get the humor in it...
Admittedly I probably shouldn't have created this thread til I had made some more progress but the goal was to find out if people were even interested in ICS in the first place. As I have stated this is still on my project list but let's be serious for a moment; how high of a priority do you really think back tracking to a previous version is? (I'll give you a clue: it's not).
I can tell you this; syncing cm9 and the old Kfire-Android local manifest for it doesn't build (and that's with the old kernel branch), it's not as simple as sync a bunch of folders and compile; I have to actually dig into the code of several repos to sort this out.
Lastly consider that my primary role is as a recovery dev; you know the term 'the plate is full', well I have a platter over here...
Not directly related but on the subject of recovery development; this is where most of my time has gone as of late.
I'd like to see an updated ICS but if it doesn't happen......oh well......I'll wait
.....when you hit the walls of sanity, you have no-where to go.....
Yea I'll wait too. And it was a joke. :c
How about a ROM with similar battery life as the stock Amazon one? Every custom ICS or JB ROM I have tried has not been awesome for battery life. Especially in sleep mode.
I'd like to see a honeycomb ROM that wold be pretty neat
Wouldn't it breathe new life into this wonderful device given the low ram requirements? I hope some of the amazing guys bringing the latest can work their magic and get 4.4 on here.

Pons said he would be working on it. And I am sure that tiny will help a little.

I'm sure we'll see kitkat eventually for the inc. I've been tinkering with it just a bit myself. At this point Evervolv has a kitkat branch for the inc, but it is not in a buildable state. Stuff is still changing so fast that there's not a lot of point in digging into it real deep just yet.
I'm very glad that Google have given the opportunity for low ram devices to Run KitKat.. I hope Pons or Tiny will make KitKat rom very soon..Inc is still breathing !!
CM 11 for HTC Incredible
HTC Incredible "S" have got an unofficial build of CM 11 which gives Android Kitkat ahead of CyanogenMod's official release. Incredible "S" got just a little bit of RAM more than the dinc.. I really hope that some creates a rom for dinc soon... Come on !!

They're not the same SOC so they're not that similar.
Also, this point sounds like begging or on the borderline of demanding. This device is nearly dead. There are nowhere near the resources there used to be.
With that said, the evervolv team is working on KitKat for similar devices. Inc support will probably be added once we can get it building.

Progress is being made. I was able to get it boot and with the current status of Evervolv and a few patches Nexus 1 already have wifi working but no data.

Just a heads up. I hope the developers will pay more attention towards the glitchy video Camera and the battery life.. I really hope Kitkat will be out soon..

This is not meant to be rude in any way but please just let them work. There is nothing that devs hate more than questions about release dates and notes on what you think they should be addressing. I'm more than impressed at the simple fact that tiny and pons are considering spending time on this ancient hardware.

Be glad the developers want to still work on ROMs. You could just buy a new phone if you want to not deal with bugs. Battery life is going to be best on this phone on CM7 or Sense. That's how it's going to be. The newer OS'es are a lot more resources intensive just to run things.
While asking is kind of pointless, if this could be made into a reality, a useable one at that, my god that would be awesome. Also, on an unrelated note, do you go to OSU?

Thanks for the update. At this point I'd love it even without data. It's my "tinkering around" device. Wi-Fi only and Bluetooth is all I use it for. Again, thanks for all the hard work you and others out into these devices.

I agree it's kind of a pointless question, but I was excited to see the low device requirements to get it up and running.
I am an Ohio State alum. Graduated from there 5 years ago.
While searching the forum for kit kat, I've found a build for the INC. Android 4.4 KitKat ! Yes ! by musical_chairs. Heres the link -http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2046220&page=52
Good luck.. I am just downloading the build..
By the way its not the official build !! Official build is yet to come !!
Can anyone find G-apps which will work with this build. I tried out a Gapps from this link http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857 but it didnt work out. :crying:

The KitKat builds are bigger than the previous versions, so there's not much room left in the /system partition.
You'll need the GApps Core from here: http://www.androidfilehost.com/?a=show&w=files&flid=9199
The core ones will give you just the basics to save space.
The full GApps won't fit on the small /system partition on our phone with the size of KitKat.
Thanks. So simply all i have is Playstore as an app and other stuff. The rest i will have to download right ? What about Google Experience Launcher (which replaces stock launcher) and other stuff like Google Keyboard ? In the official build will i be able to have the full G-apps ? Just a little clarification needed ? :silly:
So this is not the official release right ? I am really excited about this !! I just tried it out, it is damn snappy and super fast ! Great jobs devs !!
A few small probs i found are the videos are being recorded but is not shown in the gallery, And the external sd card is not shown (and cant access it)
By the way, dont think i am always complaining, i just saw some errors thats it, i hope they will be fixed on the official release..
Job well done Devs !! You gave a new life to my old play around device :highfive:
