Knox Removal - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Dear all,
Noobie question here.
Ive installed Neatrom v1 from stock and have successfully made it through without tripping Knox.
Question: Can i freely install all the other kernels now via Mobile Odin/Cwm recovery without tripping it? Since it's indicated that Knox has been completely removed.
Thanks!

Knox is still there in the bootloader, so you will trip it.

Thanks! Question is, how come it wasn't tripped when i installed Neatrom via Mobile Odin?

Knox enforces specific parameters. It increments when a critical component is missing an OEM signature e.g. kernel, recovery.
.

Meaning to say, if i install a rom/kernel via mobile odin, it won't trip?

Meaning just the opposite. When your phone boots and it finds a foreign kernel or recovery, regardless of how you got it there, Knox will increment.

Do you recommend to upgrade bootloader?

Hello mates, I have a question.
Which of you are in the latest bootloader?
I want to upgrade, usually with new bootloader there are some enhancements but reading about that KNOX thing that Samsung added to the bootloader. Also I think that that's just for warranty (I void mine at the first minute jajaja), I've never used TouchWiz and I read that the you can't revert the bootloader, as usual, so I want to be sure that I will be able to keep flashing things and use Odin as well, since the counter can't be reset.
I've got the new bootloader and flash a lot.
I'm currently running PAC ROM and KT Kernel with no issues at all
If you have new bootloader it does void warranty forever if KNOX WARRANTY VOID 0X1.
You can't downgrade firmware in Odin but you can upgrade

In any case if we want to upgrade to TW 4.3 next October I suspect all of us must use the new bootloader...

That's what I was thinking, besides since the KNOX feature is just for warranty purposes and I been using an AOSP ROM since the first minute.
But, are we going to be able to use Odin without any problems?

This is what I'm not so sure about, everyone is saying different things!
Some say once you trigger the KNOX flag then you can't use Odin at all. Some say you can but only to upgrade firmware, not downgrade. Some say you can but can never use stock kernel again as it checks the KNOX flag and won't boot phone if it's 0x1.
I think before you take the plunge, do some reading and research to be on the safe side

Hi,
No.
Yes, there is a way.
When you download using Odin, un select restart. On getting pass from Odin, remove battery and re insert. Get it to flash mode. This will install cwm. Job done. Rest as per other threads. Hope this helps.

Mobile odin is not a custom recovery. It is just an apk from Google play...

Yes, last versions flash zip files, but you need to be installed a custom recovery, which could be flashed with mobile odin, maybe (not sure) increasing the Knox bit (because the recovery flashing, but because zip flashings)...

Ok, so the only problem with flashing different kernels and recoveries and whatnot with the newest samsung update is that knox will be set to 0x1? (For the 9505)
I've been reading some threads but haven't been able to find a definite answer on whether the bootloader is actually completely locked like in the latest S4 AT&T updates, where you can't install custom kernels or recoveries, or that you can actually flash anything and the only harm is the 0x1 on knox, which i don't care.
Are things flashable with the knox bootloader on the 9505 international/sim unlocked version of the s4?

Not for nothing but i am amazed by how this post was not replied to. Forgive me senior members with the device if I am being mislead but this question has been answered somewhere? I just googled a question similar for another device.

KNOX WARRANTY VOID on the GT-I9506 (Galaxy S4 LTE-A)

From reading around on the forum and asking on IRC I have tried to figure out exactly how KNOX works. This is my conclusion, but I am far from sure this is correct.
If someone can give me more information, I would be happy
On a GT-I9506 with the stock 4.2.2 bootloader, using ODIN to flash custom software does not do anything special since the 4.2.2 bootloader does not contain the KNOX functionality to burn the e-fuse.
On a GT-I9506 that has been upgraded and has the 4.3 bootloader, using ODIN to flash new unsigned software will burn the e-fuse.

Semi-correct, with 4.2.2 bootloader you doesn't have knox, but with 4.3 bootloader you have knox, but you can flash a new official rom with Odin without affect the knox status. It only will change to 0x1 if you flash something unnoficial with Odin, like a custom recovery, kernel, root, etc... but know you can root in 4.3 wirh towelroot.

Yeah. It would be interesting to find out if you can downgrade the 4.3 bootloader to 4.2.2 after getting root with towelroot, without burning the KNOX e-fuse

[Q] Flashing custom rom

Can you flash any custom roms with mobile ODIN without tripping knox flag after using towelroot, followed by Chainfire's SUPERSU?
Or you can only flash roms which stated (knox 0x0)??

no!! you can only flash roms using recovery.
mobile odin is for flashing firmwares only.
take a look on this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2835305

In practical terms, no. A custom ROM is going to mean accepting that your Knox flag increments to 0x1. That is because custom ROMs are invariably packaged as flashable zip files, intended to be installed from a custom recovery session. It's installing a custom recovery that would actually increment Knox.
You could in theory (i.e. I don't see why not, but I haven't tested it), install a custom ROM from the command line of a rooted phone. But you'd have to figure out what goes where.. basically disassemble their install script and make a todo list that you'd have to replicate from the command line.
Pragmatically no one is going to go to that amount of work. So the effective answer is no. If you want to install a custom ROM, then you have to commit to a custom recovery first, which will increment Knox. Most people don't obsess about the Knox bit. But if you are unwilling to change your Knox flag, then you are effectively barred from custom ROMs. Unless you found someone who packaged a custom ROM for just your situation and a view of avoiding a Knox increment anyway.

Ahh i see, thank you very much
Thanks, GalaxyGuy, I've read your thread before opening this post. I thought NeatRom was a custom rom. So NeatRom is basically a custom firmware?
Thanks fffft for the reply. And I actually flashed Phoenix Rom v3 through Mobile ODIN and checking 'wipe data' and 'dalvic cache'. Everything seems to work fine even without a custom revovery. And my knox is (0x1), but I'm quite happy with the custom rom.
I heard that there's a way to make the knox flag reset for Note 3, although if it works on S5, it will be a bonus.

no its a rom but the dev of the neat rom have found a way to flash his rom using mobile odin , that's doesn't mean every rom is able to flash using mobile odin.
the best thing to do is to read the installation guide of the rom to know if you can flash it by odin or you must use a recovery

[Q] stock rom for N910F via odin no knox flag on

hay' i have note n910f with stock rom but no samsung rom and now i want to change it to stock from samsung.
if i will burn via odin stock rom did my knox flag will change to 0x1?
sorry for my bad english and thank's to the helpars.
Yes, flashing anything via Odin will trip your KNOX flag to 0x1. If that was the question..
@quadlt
Your answer is wrong
Stock Rom means original ROM.
Did you have a original Note 4 with original Rom?
Did you flash anything before?
If you're device is untouched, you can flash ANY original Samsung ROM via Odin without triggering Knox to 0x1

rom for SM-N910F
Hi
I just bought note 4 SM-N910F and i came unrooted with vision-x n4 ROM. The problem with rom is that the finger print does not work and there iss no data usage. When i boot(from the first time) on the upper of the screen there is written : Kernel is not seandroid enforcing
set warranty bit: kernel. Searching on the web this shows from the bloatware as there is a custom rom. I used sam moble to find the firmware but dont know which one i am going to download. Searching the APof the cureent firmware it corresponds to the t mobile variant (sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SM-N910T/TMB/) firmware. Can someone help me which i have to choose. Attached there is the the curent CSC.
Did anybody try to flash stock firmware? did it trip knox? I have seen different answers to this question so want to be sure. Another thing is the flash counter that will definitely change and that does void warranty if I'm not mistaken? thanks
Ok, I say this one and for all, I burned stock with Odin and it doesn't trip Knox flag on,it safe.
