[Q] i9100 Pac Man 4.3 No Root - PAC Q&A

Hi guys!
I'm using a Samsung i9100 phone and recently flashed the Pac Man Rom in this *pac_i9100-4.3-20140128.zip* version on my phone and have flashed the dorimanx kernel also to be able to use Stweaks' BLN.
I did not go for 4.4 Kit Kat because 1) there is a unresolved bug in i9100 devices, which makes the mediascanner scan the SD card forever (uses up all battery) and 2) there is no PA hybrid yet. So, I don't want to go there at the moment.
Now i encountered, that I do not have root on my device.
I have checked the official tip
"Q: I've flashed 4.3 and don't have root, how do I get root?
A: Go to Settings >> Developer Options >> find 'Root Access' and make sure it says 'Apps and ADB' if not change it to 'Apps and ADB' and you will have root"
, but it does not help at all.
I've also tried flashing the SuperUser .zip via CWM and installed another SuperSU, but it does not work.
An app called "Root Checker Normal" confirmed that I still don't have Root access....
Any ideas how to solve this?

This was taken from the SlimBean FAQ......
Q) Root doesn't work!
A) From a clean build you need to enable root access for Superuser itself. This is different from 4.2.2 in which Superuser by default had root access on a new install. To do this, go to Settings -> Developer options -> Root access. If an app attempts to request root access before Superuser itself has access, it may cause problems with that app in the future where root requests are silently denied.

[Q] Why I lost my ROOT when I install another ROM?´

Hi!
This is my question, Why I lost my ROOT when I install another ROM?
I have the following case.....
- CM with Android 4.3 and Rooted, working without problems.
- I install the ROM [JB 4.3 JWR66Y] [Linaro gcc 4.8] ♦ PURITY ROM ♦ (Mako) 24/10 with the CWM (before formating everything)
- I install the last SuperSU version with the CWM, without problems.
- I start the Nexus4, I try to open SuperSU but I receive the error "There is no SU binary installed, and SuperSU cannot install it."
- I format everything again with CWM, and I install again only the CM Android 4.3, without SuperSU or something similar.
- I have root permisions.
What I´m doing wrong, to don´t get the Purity Rom with Root??
Problem SOLVED!!
- With the CM Rom, install the SuperSU via CWM.
- Download TWRP (http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/129) and install it, but not "activate" the recovery jet.
- Open SuperSU and desactivate activate the "Super User" check, some times, but leaving at the end activated.
- Open TWRP, give root rights!!! and in options, select "Install open...:"
- Install the Purity ROM via TWRP
- Enjoy
All custom ROMs come rooted. Of course SuperSU isn't going to work; the original SU application and binary are still in place. You never had to flash anything root related.

not true. many custom roms come without supersu or superuser, where it would be the users responsibility to flash either supersu or superuser.
This PURITY ROM comes without Root, thats why they say that you need to use SuperSU

Galaxy S4 i9505- Not Rooting Through Any Apps

S4 i9505 not rooting through any apps
Hi, I recently flashed cm12.1 on my S4 i9505 and its working fine.
I need a working GApps package, I tried flashing 2 PA GApps(mini and micro), updated version which is TK GApps(mini), and also cleared calvik cache before and after flashing them as some forums suggested, but none of them worked and all Google apps keep crashing as soon as I boot in CM even the keyboard.
The 2nd issue: My phone is not rooted anymore and I tried a couple of rooting android and windows apps but none seem to root my phone, fails everytime. The errors which I faced are below.
Framaroot: "Your device seems not vulnerable to exploit included in Framaroot"
iRoot (android): "GT- i9505 No Root Permission"
iRoot (windows): "Device is connecting
eRoot (windows): Stuff written in chinese and no root button available as mentioned in different forums"
KingoRoot: "Root Strategy unavailable, just try it"
TowelRoot: Stuck on make it ra1n and after a while "towelroot stopped responding"
Root Checker: "Root checker has stopped working"
3rd Issue: I tried installing playstore apk till I get my GApps working, but it crashes everytime I open it, any solutions?
Thanks

1. Gapps: http://opengapps.org/
2. You cannot loose root acces on CM. It's impossible. You just need to activate it in developer settings and after that flash Supersu (optional). All the apps etc you tried is completely obsolete.
3. See post number 1.

I already have root access set to "apps and ADB" in developer options. is this what you're referring to?

Yes.
I would suggest performing a full wipe then flash CM and then the Gapps.
or you can try to just flash Supersu and your root will probably be back.

I tried your suggestion, did a full wipe and flashed CM successfully through TWRP, the flashed GApps successfully, and SuperSU also, but just before rebbot, TWRP asked for "fix root" and when i swiped for yes, the reboot brought me back to Samsung logo and never rebooted CM... waited for about 15 mins before pulling the battery out...
I tried to flash CM and a stock firmware through odin then and now it says "Firmware upgrade failed, try KIES...... " odin fails to flash anything and gives error "No PIT Partition", even if I try to flash PIT files (tries 4 different files for i9505), all failed....
now I can only access download mode and lost TWRP too...
help please!
Install a stock ROM through Download Mode. This will get you back to a working state. From there get TWRP and then install CM12.1. And this time around, follow instructions! At no point were you EVER told you had to fix root, and as you found out, fixing root removes root access.
Honestly mate I was on CM for a while with my i9505 intl before deciding to try something else. I recommend this rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353 . either the latest 5.1 or previous 5.0.1 release, they are both rock solid and there's great support for it too. They've even packaged cm addons as optional flash files.

Sorry forgot to mention it's a Google play edition so rest assured your gapps come included.

S4 Question - Messed up root

I used towel root to root my S4, and I somehow allowed an auto update, which downloaded the updated, tried to install but failed. But I lost my root.
I am running 4.4.2 - Kitkat right?
So I don't have root, and I cannot update my phone - Is it possible for me to root it again? If so is there a link to instructions?
Thanks in advance, the DoridForums people sent me here -

I dunno what you are running.
1. You can take a look in your Settings - About device (Pic attached).
2. Try again Towel Root if you still running android 4.4.2 for root again your device.
3. Tell us how it works.
* You can download OTA udpates but you can't install them when you are rooted. Root your device modify system. It changes of OFFICIAL to CUSTOM. OTA detects it and give you a error when you try to install the update.
Ok attached is my about phone info -
I just tried towel root again, and it says this phone is not currently supported. So again, thought I would see what my easy options might be.
I can't post an image or links, Android version says 4.4.2 - If that's what you need? If not let me know which number you need
Use CF-Autoroot to root instead of Towelroot. While CF-Autoroot requires the Odin software to use, it's far more consistent in its results since it temporarily replaces the existing recovery with a recovery that will install SuperSU into the /system partition. Unlike Towelroot, CF-Autoroot is version agnostic, meaning it will work regardless of the version of Android installed.
There is an entire thread on CF-Autoroot. Hit the search bar at the top of the page and I'm sure you'll find it.

Questions about flashing ROMs vs flashing Debloater vs flashing Kernels

So I picked up a New Verizon S5 Galaxy. I rooted it via jrkruse's excellent method. I have busybox Super SU me and Safestrap installed and I THINK I installed the custom ROM he has at the bottom of the first post. The SIM card is not in yet, nor the extSDcard.
It came with BOG5 and updated via rooting process to BOK3
Here are my questions:
1. I'm looking for a custom ROM that gets rid of crap like NFL football and such. There is a debloater.zip file associated with the ROM (deodexed stock BOK3), but I don't know how that's implemented. Is that run via Safestrap and if so, what option? Surely not install. Can I use the method in [How to][guide]?
2. I want to get rid of OTA updates. Can I just use the method listed in the [how to][guide]
3. Same question for granting full permissions to the ExtSDCard
4. Same question for Security update notification
5. When everyone says you must reflash a kernel to exit Safestrap, when exactly am I doing that and do I have to do it via Odin? What happens if I just reboot after installing the custom ROM?

I guess what I'm asking is the process for Safestrap.
It sounds like:
1. Odin to a kitkat Kernel
2. Run SS and reboot to recovery
3. Do the ROM install in SS
A. ??Reboot to Download (Odin mode)
4. ?? Run Odin again to change the Kernel back (to BOK3 in this case)
5. Reboot into Custom ROM
Is that it?
