[Q] Debian on mako - no chroot - native - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Background:
My nexus 4 Touchscreen is broken, The phone-functionality does not work.
I just plan to use the Nexus 4 as a small server connected via wifi
I've found links about installing native Linux on Android devices:
http://whiteboard.ping.se/Android/Debian
I like the concept.
One difficulty will be that we can't use an external SD.
Has someome tried it already?
Any tips?
I think we need to use the Android kernel.
best regards

[Q] Nexus 7 loopback support?

Hey all,
trying to get a linux chroot environment working on my Nexus but running into issues indicating that my kernel doesn't support loopback devices.
Anyone know of a ROM or kernel that does? Would prefer to do this rather than blow away Android for Ubuntu...
Thanks!

Help Setting up Open VPN on Android???

I have a home server, running Ubuntu 12.04 LTS with Amahi. It has OpenVPN support and the Open VPN server is infact working, according to the Amahi dashboard on Amahi's website (not my local server).
I have two Android devices that I would like to connect to my OpenVPN server, one is my Verizon Galaxy S4 (running the Hyperdrive rom). The other is my Nexus 10 running the latest Cyanogenmod Nightly.
I have followed this tutorial, but there isn't an OpenVPN setting in either device's Network settings menu. Does anyone have a good how to on setting up OpenVPN for Android?
Does anyone have a guide for this? I have searched quite a bit and haven't had much luck in figuring this out.

Have you tried the OpenVPN Connect client from the play store?
Maybe have a look here:

If you did not add VPN support during the install OpenVPN will not work. I just re-flashed Hyperdrive RLS 9.1 safestrapped on my VZW S4 and upon adding that option during the aroma install - OpenVPN started to work. I unfortunately wanted to do a restore from my old one (without the vpn support option) because I had everything setup perfectly. Is there a way to later add the VPN support that the aroma installer takes care of during initial setup?
I think you can dirty flash, since it's the same rom and same version.
I did select VIN support, but that doesn't have OpenVPN support.

[Q] Nexus 7 and desktop Ubuntu newer than 13.04 or 12.04 LTS

Hello,
I succesfully install Ubuntu 13.04, but it's too old and donť have repositories (404 in terminal). Is there some option how get newer version? Or maybe older LTS 12.04 which still have support. But only I can install that only over Windows (I find some tutorials, but only for Ubuntu).
Or if someone have good tip some linux distro (which have still active repository) or some other OS.
I trying search some interesting option how I can more use N7, because when I bought Mi2S, then N7 was so slow.
Thanks
Hi I have that same problem about repositories. And im now trying to find any results for it but everithing is suspended from original servers and old.
But if I find something then I write to you. And sorry for my bad english
Thank you, if you send me some information
A jen tak mimochodem, můžeš pak napsat soukromou zprávu ve slovenštině, jestli město co máš souhlasí.
Unfortunately, Ubuntu desktop for Nexus 7 was discontinued when 13.04 was released. Maybe you could use the regular repos and see what happens?
If you trying repos in 13.04, then you will see 404 errors, and you can not use some newer repos because stability will decrease. Too bad, N7 is still interesting device and with linux it can be more useful, because Android is quite slow and laggy (4.4.4 and new flashed) compare to my Xiaomi Mi2S.

Sailfish on Nexus 5 (on MultiROM) - enabling SIM?

Hello there,
I'm not a developer, just an enthusiast, but I managed to install and boot Sailfish 1.1.2.16 on my Nexus 5 with MultiROM.
It's quite an impressive OS! But there's not much I can do with it right now because apparently the SIM card is not recognized: cannot place calls, no mobile data.
I checked the latest status for the Nexus 5 port, on Mer Project site, here:
https://wiki.merproject.org/wiki/Adaptations/libhybris
I didn't see any indication of telephony not working, only the camera bug, file manager, etc... GSM should work, right? Is there something that must be done post-install to enable it?
FYI, the phone is working perfectly with multiple Android ROMs (KK and LP), Firefox OS and Ubuntu Touch all installed through MultiROM.
Oh, the Primary ROM on the phone is Cataclysm Lollipop, Android 5.1, so I recently upgraded the bootloader and modem.
Is this why GSM doesn't work? Too recent modem driver?
Any clues?

Yes that is the main problem: modem driver and kernel are not the same as these used to build sailfish
Thanks for confirming this.
So I guess my best bet to have Sailfish working with GSM is to wait for a build based on Lollipop (CM12), right?
I'm using sailfish just fine on my D821, everything working via multirom.

Edit: Nevermind.

RemixOS anyone?

Hey guys,
has someone maybe tried to install RemixOS on the windows version of the Yoga Book? I would be interested if everything works well or if there are any drawbacks? I think if it's good enough for daily use we could get the best of two worlds - if you need it you could fire up windows and otherwise you just go with the (imho very exciting) RemixOS Android for x86 systems.
I tried to get Remix OS to boot from a memory stick but it got stuck on the Remix OS logo. I'm not sure if it is because it was connected via USB 2 and not USB 3.0, or if there is another issue. I also have a feeling if you could get Remix OS to boot the keyboard wouldn't work.

It boots but indeed keyboard doesn't work, so you cannot go further in the android initial setup. Also screen is rotated (sensor seems to not work) by default.
There's been an ota dump provided in a thread I started here if you also want to hack your way there.
What about now
