Hey all,
trying to get a linux chroot environment working on my Nexus but running into issues indicating that my kernel doesn't support loopback devices.
Anyone know of a ROM or kernel that does? Would prefer to do this rather than blow away Android for Ubuntu...
Thanks!

I am new to XDA, new to the Nexus 7, and new to android on retail devices.
BUT I am a linux kernel developer - with a driver in the distribution kernel, and I have done android ports for development platforms.
So I am stupid on somethings and very sharp on others.
I need to do my own drivers for some devices for a Nexus 7.
Clearly others have been able to build kernels etc. for the Nexus 7 so that must be possible.
I am looking for pointers, howtos, ...
I already know how to write drivers, compile kernels - even for android.
I need to know where to get the config information for the Nexus 7, or a source tree specific to the Nexus 7,
as well as how to get a new kernel onto a retail device. I am used to putting android onto SD card and booting it on and unlocked device
Hi
Background:
My nexus 4 Touchscreen is broken, The phone-functionality does not work.
I just plan to use the Nexus 4 as a small server connected via wifi
I've found links about installing native Linux on Android devices:
http://whiteboard.ping.se/Android/Debian
I like the concept.
One difficulty will be that we can't use an external SD.
Has someome tried it already?
Any tips?
I think we need to use the Android kernel.
best regards
The title kind of says it all. I just dusted this thing off and I was surprised to see so much development for it. I had it rooted years ago when there was really no custom roms yet. Anywhoo, I was wondering if anyone thinks it's phesable to get either of those kali images running. Or at the least maybe the kernel so an external wifi adapter could be used.
Hi guys.
I've searched around the boards and net for days (cause what's worse than a new member that can't use the search function?) and I'm in need of a specific kernel for my 2012 Grouper.
I'm currently running Multirom with Kali Linux Nethunter (written over Cyanogenmod 12.1) in my primary slot, and CM 12.1 in the secondary.
I'm wondering if there is a kernel out there that will fill the following needs:
5.1 Lollipop (CM12.1, Nethunter 3.0)
Kexec-hardboot
USB fast charging/power external devices (TP-Link wifi adapter)
And if possible, All F2FS (I've found nothing for 5.1 compatibility with F2FS)
If I'm stupid and overlooked something obvious, feel free to call me on it. I'm new to Modding, and I've bricked my HTC Evo 4G LTE about 30 times without running to forums to ask for help on piddly and obvious solutions. As to the "needs" on my kernel, yes... I know I want pretty much everything. Hehe.
This forum has been a tremendous help so far, and I look forward to interacting with you all.
ETA: Current kernel version "3.1.10-Bricked-v0.591-g0a2e5f6 [email protected] #2"
I recently came across this UBports port from @erfanoabdi that allows Ubuntu Touch to be booted as a GSI A/AB image. It requires a Halium-patched kernel though, and I don't possess the programming knowledge yet to compile a kernel and the required patches from the tree, can anybody here help with this so that we can get Ubuntu Touch running nicely on our Zuk Z2 Plus?
From what I've noticed on this forum, it seems that progress on getting this device to boot Ubuntu Touch has been helmed by @S.8506.A so I'd guess that this person already has a Halium-patched kernel they could share here. Honestly, it'd be a great win for the power-user folks among us to be able to boot Ubuntu Touch, run Android apps with Anbox when required, and even run desktop apps (so-so) with Libertine containers. Not to mention the privacy capabilities that come with booting Linux.
P.S. There's already this [Treble][GSI] Ubuntu touch for Oneplus 3/3T, note the very similar hardware (esp. identical chipset) between the op3t and z2_plus
