I have a stock phone, updated with the OTA update. I have this problem where the Home and Search softkeys will stop working all of a sudden. When you press them, they seem to flash so I dont believe this is hardware. Also when I restart the phone, the problem goes away, at least for a little while. When this is happening, to get to the homescreen I basically have to use the back soft key to go all the way back. I thought that maybe this was due to some updates I did so I uninstalled NoLed and TaskSwitcher and I was fine for a few days but it just happened again. Has anyone else experienced this? Thanks, this is my first Android.
If I were, I'd exchange the phone. Sounds like the sensor for those buttons is defective.

It's not the sensor as a reboot will immediately fix this issue. Some say that doing a reset will fix it. Thinking about trying that.
my nexus 4 is behaving abnormally... the lower part of the screen(1 cm) is unresponsive to touch(tested with pointer location) and sometimes out of the blue the touch input for the entire screen stops working and works after a couple of lock/unlock and the sometimes the phone starts pressing anywhere by itself.... I was running pa latest version... it was working fine ... so i restored the phone to the old pa since i need pie because bottom screen not working= no navbar.... it still didnt work and screen with similar problems. have anyone experienced something like this... is it something with the screen or other hardware parts ... help!
i had this issue with the bottom right side and a irresponsive touch screen at times, it was fine at beforehand, i backup and reflashed and it worked, using PA. it depends if the phone was fine for months before or something that has happened when you first used it. try restore to stock rom and kernel
If you've already done a factory reset, it's likely a hardware problem. You'll probably have to have someone repair it. If you're really desperate, I guess you could try putting it in the freezer for a few minutes, and seeing if that fixes any connection problems. That might just make it worse/cause other problems though. It works with hard drives on occasion.
Hi Guys,
I'm not sure if this is related to 4.4.2 or its a hardware issue, I've only noticed this issue this week.
When I wake my N10 and if I flip the screen around before unlocking it, it will hang and reboot.
It happens every time after putting the N10 to sleep for a few mins.
If I unlock it without rotating then flipping the screen around its fine.
Has anyone else had this issue? Anyway to fix it?
Hi
Just did it and it worked fine for me, I'm also running 4.4.2... You may want to try a factory reset before issuing this as a hardware problem

on the same boat
Same behavior exactly observed on my tablet, during last week. I suspect something went wrong with the newest updates.
Random crashes with reboots, mainly when rotating on lock screen. Tried a factory reset, however, problem still persists.
Never had a single problem with my Nexus until now, worked like a charm. Also, I have not installed new Apps which to blame for this problem.
At the moment I'm trying things like disabling rotation or pattern unlocking, will see if something works.
I think I've seen this as well, on KOT49H. Not sure exactly how to reproduce it, but it's happened a few times.
Do you have modded/unlocked system? My nex is working like never before. It is twice as smooth and stable as it was on 4.3
I have never rooted/moded this tab and never ever had issues with it...
tapped from my nex
Well, disabling rotation seems to improve the issue a little bit, the random reboots are still there, but just less frequent.
Yesterday I had a couple of hangs-reboots doing simple tasks, like checking GMAIL or interacting with Google Currents widget.
In my opinion, this is not a hardware problem, it is, somehow, related with the 4.4.2. KOT49H update. My N10 worked perfect until this last update.
Ironically, I read somewhere that this update fixes the random reboot problem in a lot of faulty tablets. In my particular case, the "fix" seems to trigger the issue in my tablet
It is worth mentioning that my system is not modded or unlocked.
Updating situation ...
During the last week I have used the N10 With the automatic rotation disabled, in landscape mode. Non a single reboot.
This afternoon I just enabled automatic rotation again and the tablet rebooted itself almost instantly, at the second orientation change.
So, IMHO, This issue is only rotation-based, nothing to do with the lockscreen. It is kind of annoying.
Any help?

Hi,
Do you mind sharing a logcat when it happens? It would help a lot to see what's causing the problem.

I never had this problem, but I just tried rotating twice before unlocking, and sure enough that does it.
There are still so many things that cause this device to reboot. I love the hardware, but god is it ever unstable
This is, I hope, my final update regarding this situation..
Well, It is kind of embarrassing to inform that the problem is, apparently, gone. I didnĀ“t do anything to solve it.
So, it looks like some app or widget was causing the instability, and it must be fixed now via a recent update. Honestly I have no clue about who the culprit was..
Thanks, anyway, for your comments and support, and happy new year
Same issue
So it seems I have the same issue too, except I have a Galaxy S4 Touchwiz 4.3. Anytime I go into landscape mode, boom it freezes and reboots. If I disable rotation, then it'll just keep randomly freezing throughout the day. Never happened before, everything was happy go lucky and then I don't know what happened. I reinstalled kernels, took off recent apps I may have installed, tried a different modem, nada... This is a pain. Anyone else with similar issues other than OP?

Ive seen this many times with 4.4.2 and 3. Now with 4 it likely fixed.
I had screen not rotating, I did a dalvik wipe and a cache wipe and haven't had a problem.

Hey guys,
In the last two weeks i've noticed that my Knock On feature stopped working completely. It will Knock Off but it will not knock on. Also, my pull down notification menu will have issues. i will start to pull down and it will "catch" and then stop. It appears to pull down still as long as I stop at the spot it is having problem.
I am running Scott's Clean ROM with no other Mods. Uninstalled all apps since the problem, still nothing. Also, I have tried wiping cache and davlik cache. Still nothing.
Any one else having this issues or a solution? Thanks!

Yeah I have that problem, I had to send my phone to LG for repair.I'm due to get it back this week.
Sounds like a hardware problem to me.
I received my phone back on Saturday, on the return docs it just said 'replaced touch screen'. It's working fine but I'm surprised they replaced the screen, I expected it to be a software issue to be honest.
Had the same issue att sent me a new one

This just started happening for me too. It's a bar across the screen near the top, which happens to be in line with the power button on back. Considering the knock on stops working, and it being right in line with the power button I feel like it would be software related, but updating to Kit Kat / factory reset did nothing for me. Also I did nothing to my phone to suddenly cause a hardware failure. Hopefully LG is trying to resolve. I am giving it a couple weeks before I try a warranty repair -- a friend of mine had the same issue and it suddenly went away.
I had the same issue for a day then and went away and now its back again.
I don't know if that is hardware or software issue.
Anyone got some info about it? I don't got any warranty so I would like to know more about this issue before paying for screen replacement.
Hey guys! I've seen a few threads on this exact issue, but I haven't been able to find any real advice. So a few days ago I updated my Moto X Pure to the newest security patch. A day later the nav keys started to not respond to touch. Occasionally they work but most times they don't. Is anyone having this same problem? Do you know a fix? Thanks!

Did you factory reset? It is not the optimal solution as it takes time, but a reset dues fix the majority of issues phones have after an OTA. If you still have problems after this report back. I did the factory reset immediately after the latest OTA and had no issues. Android practically restored nearly everything app wise. All I had to do was wait it out.
FR does not work
I have the same problem, just did a factory reset but still not working, is weird to find out that is not a touch "hardware" fault, since I got into the configuration I am able to tap the next and backs buttons also the mic icon and camera works in the locked screen, the problem is only in the "Home bar" or soft key bar i don`t know the name. If someone had a solution please share.
I am also having same problem in my moto x style..

I am also having same problem. So I take my phone to moto services centre but they are also failed to resolve this problem..
Hey! So, give this a try:
Install Nova launcher, then on the home screen long press and click widgets. In the widgets section, at the top there should be an option called "Activites" long press and put that on the home screen, then it should ask you which activity. scroll to the "S" section, and select "Setup wizard" and then select "SetupWizardTestActivity".
Once that wizard is set as a widget, click the widget and go through the wizard again, and see if that does it. It did it for me, on many occasions haha
Hi, I am also facing this issue. I did the Nova launcher steps, and it worked for couple of days. Then, the same issue happened. I did factory reset of my phone and now i can't configure the phone as I can't get past the wifi selection screen. Stuck with this.

As in you're stuck in the setup wizard? Do you have root by chance?
I'm having the same problem, nothing works :crying:
So it is not just me, wow!
2 days ago my touchscreen started acting out, now I have a deadzone at the navigation bar. I've been using my phone upside down, if anyone has been through this and fixed it please let me know.
Guess what!
I just did a downgrade using ADT so I flashed my Moto X Pure to Lolipop to validate my theory but no success.
I can said that the touching problem is a hardware issue and not a software like I was thinking.
Why is this happening, IDK but let me ask you if you did the same "ordinary behaviour" like me.
The day my Moto X starts to get like crazy getting ghost touchings and ghost slidings I was having my cellphone in my back pocket and driving my motorcycle mid trip 3-4 hours.
When I took my phone out to take some pictures I got a hot phone and the touchy doing crazy ghosty responses.
I turned the phone off but when I restarted like a minute after the ghosty touching was persistent, turned off the phone again and like an hour latter turned on, no more ghosty touches but the softkeys ( back, home, tasks) stopped working.
I read before that for some tablets this is caused by the protection case and they removed the case and worked again, well is not my case since I have not any case attached to my phone, but seems to be some bad pressure in some part that damage the touch area.
Please share your comments if you applied some pressure like me sitting in the phone, for me is a "ordinary behavior" (having my phone in my levi's rear pocket) but for Motorola seems too much.
this happened to my phone as well "After a Security Patch Update thru OTA" and navbar stopped working the Other Day and I guess we shall wait for the Next update to by MOTO "ANDROID NAUGAT 7". but for Now I use simple Control navbar from Play store Until The OTA update fix the problem.
on Lock screen mic and Camera shortcut works Properly so is the software issue....
I'm trying help my friend with her Moto X Style. It has the same problem and I could test the screen with a screen tester. And works fine all touchscreen. Apears that programing for buttons was missing.

Just happened to me as well with a Moto X Pure - was driving in my car, security updated...buttons stopped working and have found zero way to get them back. They work when you flip the phone upside down, also work when the phone is locked to drag the camera or microphone shortcuts up, they just dont work on the 200x1080 pixel bar across the bottom.
-Uninstalled all "Screen Overlay" apps - nothing
-Boot to recovery and wiped cache partition - nothing
-Factory Reset the phone with Auto Restore - nothing
-Factory Reset with NO Auto Restore - nothing
-Factory Reset and 100% setup as a new device - nothing.
I cant believe there is no fix for this yet? How can a company rollout a security update that for the most part makes the phone very unuseable, cant even seem to see that they have addressed this.
No issues with mine and I am running the Dec patch.
Almost sounds like it was a corrupted OTA release. It could have been a server issue or whatnot. Call Lenovo/Moto support of the touchscreen is working in the navbar area but the navbar itself isn't. It is worth a try even if out of warranty. The worst they can say is they can't help.

I installed a custom ROM with your OWN buttons and saved that device.
I Installed a Resurrection Remix on her Moto X Style, the battery sucks, but the device is working.

Nope, so far there is no video you youtube, no actual fix on any forums or no actual working solution whatsoever. This is ****ing pathetic, Motorola a Fortune 100 company released a security patch that clearly effected a small percentage of their phones. They have not addressed it or even offered to rush another patch that ADDS BACK IN THE PROGRAMMING for the 200x1080 bottom bar.
That is the problem, someone on a thread I found had dissected the patch, and the line for "Program; TouchPoints x200x1080 were just missing"
With this being more than just a few hundred phones, one would think they would actually try to assist. NOPE
Currently using a SoftKey App on the side of my screen, never buying motorola again after this type of blatant disregard for customer support.

Same problem here. Today morning, my 2015 Moto X Style just stopped working (the buttons). I did not do any update or install anything. So I do not really understand what you talk about here - it was an automatic whatever from Motorola that broke all the phones? That's ridiculous! Like a virus
I'm using the old Android Lollipop BTW - anyone knows if this issue remains on the new system? I never update due to serious slow down after it. Both Google and Apple are complete assholes when it comes to updates. So I've just been ignoring their "brand new awesome cool all is gonna work releases"
I've been a proud Moto user for years now. This is just unacceptable. They're gonna loose big with this one.
If you would do a factory reset after flashing the newest major rom releases it would be plenty fast.
