New here! Have a few questions.

HI there folks,
I am a newborn noob here. Would like to introduce myself.
I have recently bought the first Android device I have ever owned which is the i9500 Octa Core and I am loving it, I have found that Android is 100000000000x999 times better than any other mobile operating system and so I have a huge interest in it. Have been reading about it for a month now and I want to many things to my device but unfortunately can't because the i9500 does not get much love, especially here in South Africa, where Samsung can't even provide us with the latest firmware update.
I really want to root & flash my phone however I don't want to Void my warranty and I know that the Triangle Away app can remove the flash counter however it does not support i9500 Octa yet...
I am an experienced Graphic Designer, have been doing it for 5 years using Photoshop and sometimes CorelDraw, so if anyone would like me to help out with designs for their applications, I don't mind helping out.
I have a lot of knowledge about Computers and Cellphones however not enough about Linux based systems, that is why I am here, to learn, learn and learn.
Also I wanted to ask if I can put Google Stock Android OS 4.2 or 4.3 on my i9500 Octa instead of using Samsung's crappy TouchWiz? Is it possible?

If you wanted a lot of developer love (and namely AOSP love) you should have looked into buying/importing an i9505. Sad, but true. DocRambone has successfully ported the Google stock android OS to the i9500 but is fighting bugs. Though the CM team has announced that they've (or one of them at least) gotten an i9500 and will get CM on it.
It's basically like this:
AOSP love = Qualcomm equipped phones or Nexuses
Of course exynos phones can have AOSP love as well, however since there isn't much reference out for the exynos chip (not a single shred of documentation or useful source), getting AOSP to those devices will be hard. The Nexus 10 tablet has exynos 5, though, but it's a different chipset than the one in the Octa S4. Exynos 5250 is the N10 and 5410 in the S4 and both use very different GPU's.

[Q] Welcome Back and headaches

Hi all been busy with life work etc not had much to do with phones but then I got the Note 3 its awesome but restricted, its a sim free version, I have now gained root access and
Want a nice vanilla KitKat Rom with all the note 3 needed bits (s-pen stuff) but non of the bloat ware. any recomendations???
Xda-Devs has changed a lot since I was last active on here and its giving me a headache making head or tail of whats going on. LOL. looking forward to some great custome ROMs and helping if i can with anything. Regards Phil
I may be a 'junior' member, but I have taken the plunge and signed up after many years of browsing and rooting etc...
You are correct, there is a lot of stuff to trawl through, and I think in part it's down to Samsung and the 101 different models! I started with an old Galaxy Ace that got CM'ed and things were definately easier back then!! Even the HTC One was a breeze, once you'd asked HTC for the bootloader unlock!
The rom's that I have taken a shine to are, obviously Cyanogenmod 11, The X-Note looks quite snappy, and the Echoe rom, but that's only because I'm a massive Pink Floyd fan and they name the roms after floyd songs!! I am sitting tight until a decent rom, minus the bloody TW, comes along. I would like something like the PacRom I had on an SGS2 and HTC One. I love the pac in black feature and the way they were laid out, along with the mountain of add ons. The Echoe rom for Note 3 seems to have a miriad of combinations using AOSP etc... Looks quite tidy, but I'm also bothered by the bloody knox thing! admittedly. Sadly, this will be my last Samsung Product. 3GB ram, Quadcore and you can't do F*ck all to them without potentially having issues with warranty!
Anyways Rant over.....

I would say S4. Theres a lot more developer support and its a good phone.
Look It's a matter of perspective really it comes down to what you are looking for... If you are into rooting, tweaking and using custom roms then s4 is the way to go but if you want something solid and genuinely faster than the s4 the A5 is your thing and to be honest the A5 seems to get a lot of attention lately . If you choose to go with the A5 be sure to buy the model which is right for you and has some development going. Cheers

I run aicp on my a500fu and its a good phone. Not to much development but enough for me. Also I get an average of 5hr+ sot, best is 6hr 49m.
A500FU using AICP
Finally I bought a Samsung Galaxy s5 haha

About to buy galaxy S8. Need you guys to help me choose the correct variant of phone.

Hello guys. i am about to buy galaxy s8 but i have almost zero knowledge about rooting and stuff (i just rooted my galaxy tab 3 about a year ago and flashed custom roms on it. Thats the only rooting experience i have been using iphones). So i just want to ask that which variant should i choose (which can be rooted). and one last thing is that i would like to have google pixel 2's portrait mode on my s8 and i read it here that its only for snapdragon variants ? How can i know if the phone i am buying is the one with snapdragon or exynos ? are they any different ? Thanks and sorry for such noob questions. I am really new here.
If you're buying it anywhere in North America, it's a snapdragon. Every carrier uses the same phone, only difference is the firmware.
G950U is a carrier S8 - Snapdragon
G95U1 is unlocked S8 - Snapdragon
G950F is International - Exynos
As far as root, idk... I used to root everything but it's not what it used to be and nothing but headaches now so I don't mess with it.
Don't bother with Snap, grab exynos. Rooting is not worth the hassle IMHO. Not so many custom roms, aosp like still in early development... If you root, you lose Knox, secure folder, Samsung Pay, private mode in SBrowser, warranty will be voided.... Magisk will help only with bypassing the Safetynet. Grab One5T ?

i want a phone for like atleast 2 years. Is oneplus 5t a better choice over s8 ? i just hate when the phones slow down or hang. is s8 any better in terms of performance so that it wont hang or lag ?? i am prefering s8 because of the screen and camera mainly.

Yeah, s8 is better in terms of screen and camera. OP5T is better in battery, system and overall fluidity. You can't go wrong with 8gb ram.... ? friend of mine bought one for himself and recently S8 for his wife. Though he's in love with Samsung's screen, he prefers clean Android which is flying on OP5T, rather than ekhem Lagwiz ?
Oneplus 5T doesn't have a MicroSD card slot, however. So it's out of the running in my book.

Worth getting Exynos S10+ And install rom?

Is it worth??
No stay on Nokia 3310. You have No Bugs. ?
Thanks
Nokia 3310 is my current phone. i should stay with it ?
Good for me 2 custom ROMs (Samsung based) in development.
(My country only have exy model):fingers-crossed:
There will be very little development for the S10+ and the Exynos chip is supposed to be inferior to the Snapdragon so I don't think it makes any sense at all.
If your ultimate goal is to run a custom ROM then you should buy a phone brand that's more developer friendly and stay away from Samsung, Huawei and Xiaomi since none of those brands get much in the way of custom ROMs.
Stick with a rotary dial phone. It's must simple than s10+
