Hello,
A customer gave a Grand 2 (SM-G7106) for service, to have a custom rom & recovery installed.
I've been trying to use the method that's available in all the forums (put the phone to download mode, connect it to odin & etc...).
But the phone does not go into download mode in the first place for some reason.
Rather, when I keep holding Vol Down + Home + Power (or Vol Down + Power only) , a screen flashes to say 'Factory mode' for like 2 secs & then, I get these options
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",

"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So, I tried, Vol Up + Power & I get these options
Please give me a solution to this.
Thanking you all in advance,

Not sure, it only came for service.
How do I distinguish between original & duplicate?
Even then, is there any solution to this problem though?

Hey buddies,
I got a 4.3 Samsung SM-G7106, with G7106ZNUANK1 from China Unicom (CHU). unfortunately, I can't root it properly. Tried CF-Root, TowelRoot and Framaroot but no luck.
I hope you can help me out guys, thanks!
May be it is super copy for grand 2,,try to chek with cpu identifier or cpu z,,
Sent from my SM-G7102
Nah, its not a supercopy, just found out that one of my friend was also using the same phone, same specs, same everything and he bought it on Samsung Store in China (He presented me with the copy of the receipt and box stuffs), so yeah, I think its a legit one since its running well on Kies also (unlike other copy phones which can't be detected thru Kies). Anyway, I found a root program from G7106ZNUANC1 and I forgot the other one, its thru SRS root, but didnt work for my phone unfortunately. :crying:
Hope someone could help me root my G7106ZNUANK1 soon!

Thanks for the tutorial buddy! Is it possible you can walk me thru it? Even though I'm kinda lurking here for quite some time, still some things are alien to me. I hate to say this, but, can you spoon-feed me the instructions in doing so? Would really appreciate your help!
Thanks! :good:
Hi.
I just got also a Grand 2 G7106, and does the same thing - chinese menus instead of recovery mode. Found a video on youtube that explained which single item does, and most are only a bunch of tests, and one for factory reset, but still with this same issue.
I also would like to know how to use odin without entering in download mode.

Hey buddy, try using SRS root software if you wanted to root your phone. If you're lucky enough that its not the G7106znuank1 model, then it can be rooted thru it. Otherwise, you'll be stuck like me. lol.. good luck! :good:
looks like i am stuck with you guys too. Have the same Samsung SM-G7106 . I tried using ODIN to install CWM. Despite Odin saying that it is PASS and device rebooted itself, when i try to go into recovery mode (CWM) it goes into default Android recovery mode instead with (write protected) ... i tried TWRP too using ODIN and it is not working. Tried both Odin 3.09 and 3.10
If you're still looking for a way to root your SM-G7106, I managed to do it with the KingoRoot app.
super simple process. It's based on Chainfire.
I should mention this was with: G7106znuank1
I have a grand 2 g7106 hard bricked and it is totally dead how to solve this problem please help.
Thanks in advance

EDIT: After more testing I am not happy with this version. I will put up a new version soon
Clockworkmod Recovery Image - I9305 Samsung Galaxy SIII 4G howto
What is it?
Clockwork mod recovery allows you to load custom OS images (like cyanogenmod and others) to your device
Things to note
This version is super-duper alpha, meaning that it is mostly untested and may not work!
I am not responsible for any damaged caused by using this recovery image.
It will increase your flash counter in odin
What do I need to do?
1. Download Odin (you might be able to use heimdall, however I have not tested this!)
*removed*
2. Download the image (1 part, tar file)
hotfile link;
https://hotfile.com/dl/174141057/71a063e/i9300_XXALI5_CWM.tar.html
3. Unzip Odin to an easy to access place (such as your desktop)
4. Copy the image file to the same directory.
5. Boot your SGS in to download mode
(power off... then press and hold the power + volume down + home buttons at the same time)
6. Connect your phone to your PC using the cable that came with it.
If you are using a laptop make sure you connect it to a port on the machine not the docking station (if you have one). If your machine has USB3 try to avoid using the USB3 ports.
7. Open the Odin application
Make sure your phone is detected, there will be a yellow square in the top left corner (see below screen dump)
8. Make sure it looks similar to the below screen (same options ticked, the .tar file in the 'PDA' section)
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
9. Press start and wait. Your phone will be flashed and reboot when it is finished.
10. When the phone re boots, power it off again.
11. Put the phone in recovery mode
hold down power, volume up and home when the device is turned off and unplugged
Well done Mick. Root and now cwm.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
This is the only downfall of the 9305, lack of a large user base for development. Tip my cap to you guys.
So CWM runs and the file system table / mount points are all correct (just as a note they are COMPLETELY different to the non LTE SGS3) however it is unable to mount as a flash drive or apply update zips.
The way I got this far was taking the CWM recovery image for the I9300 and hacking it to boot on the I9305.
I will probably have to build cwm from source for it to work properly. stay tuned
Awesome!
This is awesome! The S3 GT-i9305 is going to be my first real Android phone (I currently have a $80 Samsung Galaxy Y now, but it sucks and doesn't count). I can't wait for it to be available, I'm probably going to travel to Singapore just to buy it (I currently live in Thailand, so it's quite close).
Let's hope the admins can create a separate S3 GT-i9305 forum soon, that would boost interest and development I think. I don't think development with the i9305 will be any less than with the US S3 editions, concidering that i9305 is the new international model that is going to be sold in most of Europe, Asia and Oceania.
You boot to recovery because you change the kernel but not the ramdisk.
You cant do anything cause the partition on I9305 is different from I9300.
You have to unpack ramdisk and add recovery.fstab from the I9305.
As i told yesterday to mick.wheelz i will try to do that job but i dont have the time.
Also i already send a test recovery.img to mick.wheelz to test it.
good work boys... I am missing all the fun by the time i get this thing in just over 1 week, all the fun bit will be over... haha oh well .. keep it up!!

OK, made a new cwm image, its a hybrid of the build cwm ramdisk from the cwm builder, and the stock i9305 kernel... this was the only way I was able get the file systems to mount proplerly.
USB support is non-existent (because of the kernel) and I am still having trouble getting zip's to load.
I was able to make a system backup and I will soon test restoring it.
well it now can load zips, but i manged to hose my file system (oops...)
re flashing and trying something else.
I still can't get my own update zip's to load... so if someone would like to help me create a zip that would be nice.
I will upload my cwm recovery image too, it does *work* but its not 100%
I remember getting cwm touch working on the i9305 from one of the i9300 roots, although it may also have been the one that caused my IMEI data to die.
Guys please can anyone with i9305 rooted and already backup EFS image test that recovery.img?
Is made from original Cfroot from i9300 the kernel is from i9305 i only make changes to ramdisk image so 99% is ok but i whant to test the recovery function's if is all working.
Thank's

Preferences, unselect "Run Samsung Kies automatically when a device is connected
Make sure u have kies application not running on backgroud should be close
Also try a different usb port on the computer
And if that doesn't work try a different cable

I have tried a different USB port, now I will try on another computer.

On another computer the drivers are not working at all.
I have removed all drivers and installed Kies. Now its updating.

b)Then right-click Device Manager.(Windows 7)
3)Look Down at Universal Service...
4)Expand it and look at USB Composite Device.Right-Click on it and Uninstall.

This is a promising quote. I've been onto various chinese website and translated the pages, downloaded various TWRPs for the G9287 but flashing it doesn't complete. It doesn't fail but it doesn't pass either. Kebong. If you've managed to root a G9287 please could you go into a bit more detail? I found CROM system app which fixed the first stumbling block. Finally I could flash a custom (Philz) recovery via odin. It passed. Brilliant. However I press all the buttons at the same time to get out of bootloader. I can't stop it booting up, but I just power down again then boot into recovery.
At this point it shows a lying down android and says 'system update...'. After a few seconds it says 'no command' then boots into the stock recovery with no apparent change. It still boots up but not changes seen. I've had a search around forums. The issue is mentioned but no solution found.
So close, yet so far!

Okay - so, when you've flashed via odin, hold down all the buttons to reboot but DON'T HOLD THEM FOR TOO LONG! Immediately jump to to home, vol up and power and hold that. It's all about the speed. When I did this it booted straight into Philz. Don't let it reboot. That's the key. After 3 weeks of trying. I'm finally rooted.
For CROM Settings - do an internet search. I found one that said it was for standard S6. It worked fine for S6 Edge+.
Here you go guys CROM Settings
What are you guys using the CROM for? @[email protected]
We use CROM because otherwise cannot flash anything by odin. I just successfully root.

ROOT
With me is under baseband version: G9287ZHU1AOH5. Can I root my phone too?
How to use this CROM (APK)?Is there Philz for my G9287?
SM-G9287 root via Odin
To root Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge+ SM-G9287 variant or with G9287ZHU1A0H5 baseband version via Odin, follow these instructions:
****WARNING: This will trip your device's KNOX WARRANTY.****
I am not responsible if during the rooting process you brick your device or make it completely dead.
This is just a guide how to root your device.
1. Download these files to your PC:
> CROM Service4shared.com/mobile/2CaRP69sba/CROM_Service.html> Odin3 v.3.10.74shared.com/rar/74xTnC-Rce/Odin3_v3107.html> Smart Switchsamsung.com/us/smart-switch/assets/downloads/Smart_Switch-PC_4.0.15093_11.exe> G9287 Tar File4shared.com/file/PBnmMkgsba/G9287-Root.html2. Install Smart Switch in to your PC.
3. Transfer CROM Service into your device and install it.
4. Open CROM Service and choose option that unlocks your device.
5. Unzip and run Odin3 to your PC.
6. Make sure your device has a battery life at least 60%.
7. In your device, enable OEM unlock and USB debugging.
8. Turn off your device and reboot to the Recovery Mode (push Volume Down + Home key + Power key buttons for 2-3 seconds).
9. Push Volume Up button to continue.
10. Connect your device to your PC. Odin3 must notice that you have connected your device, so on the tool you must see the “added” message displayed along with the ID:COM section which now should be blue.
11. In Odin3, click "AP" button then search for the tar file you had downloaded.
12. Select "Start" from Odin3 and wait while your device is being updated or rooted.
13. Finally, when the installation procedure is over on Odin3 you will see the “pass” message displayed and your device will automatically reboot.
14. Disconnect your device from your PC.
14. CONGRATULATIONS! Your device is now rooted.

Just wondering.... Why do we need to install smart switch, can't we just transfer CROM to the device and install it. What is Smart Switch needed for. Thanks!
I just got one of the new Straight Talk Grand Prime variants from Walmart. I can't find ANYTHING on the model (SM-S920L) AT ALL. Anyone else get this model? I'm desperately seeking the stock recovery.tar for this phone as i attempted to flash a CWM recovery without backing up the stock firmware. Needless to say this didn't work and i was left with "recovery is not Seandroid enforcing"., when i attempt to boot into recovery.

That's odd...Kingroot worked like a charm for me as well. Do u have super su installed?
I think you're right. I think it has to be the newest version of King Root that doesn't use the kinguser app anymore(version 4.6.2). Oh! And I've submitted the files needed to fashion a custom recovery but haven't heard back yet. I will keep u guys posted.

Finally, something is beginning to Surface on this model. Can you by chance upload the pit file? I bricked while I ventured into the unknown....every flash attempt fails....can't even do smart switched recovery. Hell, this model isn't even in Samsung's database.

is this what your looking for? I know what u mean about not being able to find anything. I'd imagine its because the manufacture date is 6/15. This variant is still very new. I'm willing to do whatever i can to help get the ball rolling though.

Thanks for that! Except now I need a stock rom. I'm going to look into that one. Sounds like a task....I just want to get this puppy to work again.
Grand Prime sm-s920L
I am stuck in recovery mode and I have taken the battery out for a few and stick it back in and still stuck in recovery mode. How can I get out of this?
Same boat, but I am stuck in Odin mode. Made the mistake of trying to flash TWRP on it. Cannot find a the right one to reflash the ROM. I see many for other versions, but not ours.
Their isn't a custom recovery for this particular LTE version, I've seen one individual say.he got it to work with TWRP but he has to be bull****ting...their is the stock rom already posted to the forums tho if you can get it to were your able to flash it...I see that CWM has its own custom recovery builder on their site now I was wondering if that would actual work???

SM-S920L Rooted
Hello, i got my device to take ROOT in about an hour.
Here is the list of programs i used:
~Samsung USB Driver for Mobile Phones for Windows
~SuperSU apk v2.46
~Superuser apk v3.1.3
~One Click Root for Windows
~Kingo Root for Windows
~KingRoot for Windows
~Root Check apk
step 1. run as administrator: SamsungUSBDriver.exe (Windows)
step 2. Install Superuser.apk v3.1.3 (Android) does not require ROOT
step 3. run as administrator: One Click Root.exe (Windows) ROOT Will Fail
step 4. run as administrator: Kingo Root.exe (Windows) Root Will Fail
Step 5. run as administrator: Kingroot.exe (Windows) Device ROOTED
Step 6. Install SuperSU apk v2.46 (Android) Update Binary Normal
Step 7. Enjoy
That is an unnecessarily convoluted path to rooting this device. KingRoot apk v4.5.0 can literally root this phone is less than 5 minutes and SuperSU-ME Pro can replace KingRoot in a further 5 minutes.
Wonder if there's actually anyone making progress towards obtaining the Rom for this model.
Doubtful. There is zero interest in this variant.
Gahhh nooo, dont say that. Here's hoping an anon comes and saves the day sometime soon.

EDIT 2022-06-30: FOUND A RELIABLE SOLUTION FOR MY NEW T307U TABLET! May work for other models! https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/...e-it-as-a-normal-tablet.4316969/post-87091297

Following this thread to no avail: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/doordash-knox-customized-tablet-unable-to-remove.3890522/
Setup requires an internet connection, at which point it sets up MobiControl:

My friend's an IT so he set up Meraki for me which I can enroll in instead of MobiControl, but a minute later this pops up:
I still have access to the settings but cannot enable USB Debugging.
I flashed a combination file which got me to the "factory binary" where I can unlock OEM and enable USB Debugging, but I don't know where to go from here:
I flashed a stock ROM, but that doesn't get rid of doordash and MobiControl during setup.
Please help!
Which Android version did you flash? Did you finally get rid of MobiControl?

I solved this. Basically, I accidentally bricked the tablet, which I assume is what caused Samsung Knox to fail and thus Mobi Control didn't try installing on a fresh flash of Android 8.1. Fuller story below:
After 3 days straight of trying to reset the tablet, including flashing the combo file, trying anything I can think of, re-flashing the stock rom and seeing if the problem is gone, I finally fixed it.
What ended up happening was, while re-flashing the stock rom on my 4th attempt, I flashed the AP but not one of the other things (I guess CP?) which resulted in the tablet getting bricked.
Long story short, I held both volume buttons and power to boot into a blue download mode (as opposed to a black one via holding power down + volume and selecting download mode, since the volume down + power nor the volume up + power combos weren't working) and flashed the stock rom to it properly.
Upon setup, I was still required to set up wi-fi, but it didn't attempt to install mobicontrol! I've been using the tablet normally since. Who would have known accidentally bricking the tablet was all I needed to do!

After tried 5 versions of Odin, include 2 different v3.13.3, finally got a good news. I can flash T387v firmware Andriod 8.1 and 9. But the bad news is I cannot brick it, no matter flashed only AP or BL. I tried to flash with T387W or T387T firmware, I got PIT error messages.
Which version of firmware were you using?

It's Android 8.1. If that file I mentioned is 9, then it's not the one I flashed, but was instead on my to-do list of troubleshooting steps. I was going to try flashing Android 9 and 10 but I got it working with 8.1 so I'm keeping it on that. Plus, the newer the android, the more secure Samsung Knox will be, so it will be harder breaking it.
Any idea where you downloaded it from? I cant seem to find a link.

Android 10: https://samfrew.com/download/Galaxy__Tab__A__/1hjk/VZW/T387VVRU3CUI2/T387VVZW3CUI2/
"The fact that it has MobiControl installed suggests it's a company device, and is therefore administered by that company's IT department. It's probably going to be difficult to remove MobiControl unless you talk to that IT department about it."
The above is a quote I found regarding Knox and the MobiControl app. Which tells me that this thread, although likely unintentional, is violating XDA Forum Rule #9:
9. Don't get us into trouble.
Don't post copyrighted materials or do other things which will obviously lead to legal trouble. If you wouldn't do it on your own homepage, you probably shouldn't do it here either. This does not mean that we agree with everything that the software piracy lobby try to impose on us. It simply means that you cannot break any laws here, since we'll end up dealing with the legal hassle caused by you. Please use common sense: respect the forum, its users and those that write great code.

XDA does not wish to be held liable for circumventing device security regardless of intent of the user, which is why I'm closing this thread.
