DAN ROSENBERG HAS FOUND AN EXPLOIT TO UNLOCK THE MOTO X (AND OTHER DEVICES) BOOTLOADER!!!
Will he release it? Your guess is as good as mine...
Confirmed by jcase! BL Unlock coming soon to Moto! ***DON'T UPDATE YOUR DEVICES*** HOLD OFF ON ANY AND ALL OTAs.

Moto Support coming soon to the "Sunshine" unlock app.
EDIT 9/22/14: Unlock now available for Droid Maxx, Mini, Ultra, and THE MOTO X!!!
Find the tool at http://theroot.ninja
Cost is $25 per device. Works on 4.4.3 and BELOW, and *some* 4.4.4. You have to try the app to find out. You do NOT pay unless the tool confirms compatibility.

I would like to emphasize that any of the codes given cannot be linked to any personal information. This is only for data collection purposes and only Sam and myself are the only ones who have access to the codes right now. If you have any questions about what we're doing, please ask! ^_^
This is a great idea.... I have a late 2013 VZW Moto x, and if your methods prove true then we can start unlocking out moto x's for free!
Anyone know what his email was that he sent the tokens from? I'm trying to find what mine was but I can't find any searchable keywords since I'm pretty sure he just sent the codes in the message and nothing else...

You can search for: 陈阳春 OR [email protected] OR your IMEI (he included the IMEI in every message he sent to people)
That should easily pop it up for you.
If this hypothesis proves correct then it stands to reason even 2013 builds would again have a chance at getting an unlocked bootloader that missed the first go-around! ? I paid for mine 5/27, the day he shut down! ?
EDIT: typo on date above - meant 3/27

I just added my info to the list. I checked my build date on the box and on the Barcode screen in the bootloader and they don't match. The Barcode screen shows 2-10-14 but my box says 2-12-14. Is that normal?

Might I suggest a filter to eliminate bad data? Can we attach our xda names to our unlock codes to ensure integrity of the data? Last thing we want as a collective whole is slowdown because of some trolls to hamper the effort. I also suggest to others to avoid posting simple confirmation text to help reduce noise/clutter: send a PM if you must. I also suggest to sam (OP) or someone else to consider generating a list showing who has contributed so far if personal validation is that important to people. Let's keep the clutter down everyone.

Thanks for the suggestion. I went ahead and added an "optional" field to the form for XDA username. If anyone feels the need to be 'recognized' for contributing to this effort, I might consider generating a list, but would prefer not to since it would take effort to maintain such a list.
We did take great care to try to avoid the database being "posioned". This includes making the form "write only" so no one can erase data, and additionally, keeping these codes private so that no one could intentionally post a duplicate code in attempt to throw off the analytics.
Additionally, if I DO find duplicate entries, I will be sure to make sure such "duplicates":
1) Were not submitted from the same IP address
2) That the code isn't posted somewhere in the forum, where someone could copy it and paste it in (attempting to ruin our data).
And finally, "poisoning" the form with FAKE codes shouldn't really be an issue anyways. The goal is to attempt to find duplicate codes (that worked for more than one individual) and successfully unlocked. If (and only if) this is confirmed, we can attempt to analyze further.
Given the nature of key/certificate based encryption, this is NOT an attempt to "brute-force", or "hack" moto's master key based on the codes received because it would be computationally unfeasible and would likely take longer than my lifetime For this reason, I'm not concerned if some "jerk" inputs a fake code.
EDIT: also see my edit to the end of the OP - based on your suggestions. Added this info:
And finally, rather than posting to this forum "code submitted", or similar (I don't mind...but it WILL 'clutter' this thread up, quickly...), instead, JUST HIT THE THANKS BUTTON ON THIS POST! This will signify that you have submitted a code, and contributed to the effort! You may also hit the THANKS button if you simply appreciate the effort, also signifying that are contributing [moral support] to the effort.
Thanks once again.
Thanks again.

We want the codes to be anonymous since we don't want them connecting to personal information. I might add another question where you can put your XDA name but that's up to Sam.
I'll keep a close eye on it and will make sure there is no 'trolling'.
I submitted a code that worked for my old Moto X (Built 2/12/14) but no longer have it since moto replaced it due to cracked screen. Hopefully this tactic yields good news cuz I have a July boot loader Moto now ? good luck guys!!
Submitted my code to the database. Hopefully this helps!

guys.. my comment about sprint root was a joke to see how much interest there was in the root and see what kinda reactions there'd be.
BUT.. some of the guys working on this need g3 devices... for root.. for unlock... for future exploits down the road...
root for any unrooted G3's will come.. I can promise that. But.. it will most likely not be an update to ioroot specifically.. and I may not be the one to post...
SO..
the couple users who did donate for a future Sprint G3 root.. I will be refunding. But I do thank you for your enthusiasm. hold onto it and use it when root IS posted to ensure the G3 continues to see great work(moar r00t? moar unlox? moar hax? r0mz.. zzz). there is a great group of ppl poking at this.. but as i mentioned.. we all dont have G3's.. and some will have to buy out of pocket.. just for the sake of hacking and contributing to community. I think I've slept a total of 8 hrs the past 3 days(not complaining!).. trust me.. this is being looked at and worked on.

I agree, that thread was getting rather annoying.
I agree, who needs threads anyway? /sarcasm.
I'm at work now, so I can't do anything useful for G3, just facilitating some stuff on IRC, and making stupid comments here on XDA
When I get home, I'm going to see if we can hit the SPR G3 hard.
After that, it's full steam ahead for unlocks. We've got a few ideas in mind, Shelnutt2 is getting his IDA disassembly refined so we can pick it to pieces. We might even be blessed with some help from toastcfh and beaups in the IDA department too!
We're definitely not going slow on this one, we're just gathering the troops!

Right now jcase needs some $$ to pick up a Sprint device - and I think he'd appreciate a few dollars towards a device. When we get an unlock together, I'll probably make a post and set up something so we can split the donations to everyone that contributed, so as to be fair.
Thanks!
EDIT: scratch that, jcase would rather not receive donations until we release something. Hold onto your money until we get a release put together then. Sorry for the confusion!

Could you change the title of the thread to "Bounty for unlocked bootloader"?
It seems that we are much closer to getting that via Dan Rosenberg's method than having someone find an exploit for the 4.4.4 firmware to obtain root. Note that an unlocked bootloader will allow for both root and write protection off for the lifetime of the device, over all* OTA patches to come.
*unless the OTA relocks the bootloader and patches the vulnerability discovered by Dan, then we're SOL.
Once the title is changed, count me in for $20.

I guess I may have missed that other thread. I didn't intend to make one on top of another if I did but upon my first post in another thread this was recommended, so I edited my post as a mistake. Then I got the title wrong and humbly corrected it. I actually prefer to leave this stuff to the grown ups but I been a little desperate as I'm sure others may be too. Does this thread need to be deleted? Is there another thread for the same thing? If so, how do I close the thread. I'm all ears for advice, although I may not have time to make any changes. Any one who wants to take over thread is certainly invited and welcome. I just want progress and an willing to pay.

To everyone who keeps requesting that a NEW bounty thread be created for the sole purpose of the BL-Unlock exploit....it's pretty simple guys. Just start a new thread in General and title it "[BOUNTY] Full Bootloader Unlock 2013 Droid Line-up".
If nobody else will do it, I will -- just give the word. I'm already unlocked though, so it should probably be started by someone who wants an unlock exploit, and will keep the OP updated with all the pledger's usernames and pledge amounts along with a running total of the FULL bounty amount.
Don't forget to WITHDRAW your pledges from any other bounty threads you have pledged to. This is important.

I find it really surprising that you guys are continuing to post pledge amounts in THIS thread, and that none of you have created a new one, even after I suggested it. Any one of the last 3 posters could have started it...
Are you all going to come back to THIS thread, and edit out your pledges? Because that's what you need to do. You don't pledge bounties in multiple threads for the same thing....not unless you intend on paying twice!
EDIT: Glad to see a new bounty thread was started...however consider the shortcoming - that thread is for "4.4.4. root" - it does not mention write protect disable or bootloader unlock. What exactly are you guys wanting? Technically, a "temp-root" on 4.4.4 would qualify for this bounty, and could quickly be patched by the next update.
Just food for thought....I really expected the new bounty thread to be for full bootloader unlock -- to encourage a DEV to take Dan Rosenburg's new bootloader trust zone vulnerability and create a tool to exploit it. That is the only permanent rooting solution for you guys.
EDIT2: I see that the title of the new bounty thread has been changed to "full bootloader unlock". Great :good:

I can pay $20 via PayPal. @Dan: Please release the exploit.
Count me in, I'll contribute with 30$.

Easier than what? Its currently the ONLY option.
It does not work for everybody. He can only unlock devices between a certain date range. Almost no 2013 devices, and very few devices with assembly dates in the past 2 months.
It is a good option, but we already have an existing thread on that topic. I believe most or all of those pledging bounties for an exploit have tried the middleman already, unsuccessfully.
I'll contribute $20.
The cost is very high

??? Please explain ??? You mean you don't know how to do it yourself and it will take to much money for a dev to get involved and for you to get involved? Or you know how to do it and you have a price that our pledges don't total? If you do know how and have a price, name the price, and show some love to the android open source community for crying out loud... Don't play with our emotions.... Just saying

That's pretty soon, especially given that I haven't seen the exploit of Dan's vulnerability on any other phone. I imagine that once it's been done on one phone the others will follow quickly and snatch up bounties. Keep it alive, let it build up and eventually someone will deliver.
OK.. I just didn't want someone to feel obligated if they had a better way.

Everyone has the opportunity to withdraw their pledges at any point. Setting them to expire on the 22nd seems extremely excessive in my opinion...

This is your first post... not to be offensive but this is most definitely a scam
None taken, I work on behalf of QuickPhoneUnlock.com we've unlocked over 1 million phones with thousands of reviews everywhere.
The intention of this is to bring out our name even further.
Thanks for your message
Its common sense but a little warning should maybe be written here:
It is NOT a good idea to give a stranger in a public forum remote access to your home computer and also to your rooted phone!
You can bring the name of QuickPhoneUnlock.com also to the people if you give an free unlock code from QuickPhoneUnlock.com . They have this option also.
If you really, only want to public the site QuickPhoneUnlock.com, then thats the real way.
Connecting to a rooted phone from a stranger is stupid and not really serious.

First, i would like to thank you for your positive criticism / feedback. We absolutely would love to provide free unlock codes, however unlock codes have a base cost. Doing the unlock via USB costs us nothing other than the technicians time and effort.

It's absolutely not, however when we do offer that how high of chances is it for you to refer us to your friends for family? Which means if they are not rooted they will most likely purchase a code.

Over 1 million phones, but they still need a rep to advertise on xda in a s6 sub forum...
Well good luck to anyone willing to give you access to their phone and computer.

The server is down, how does this make it a scam.
Nor did we get personal information, or access to anything?
