Eh.....
If you like the gingerbread multitasking...you could download "XuiMod" from Xposed.
In there there's a lot of options for you to change things. Use the Classic recents menu and you won't get "current apps" <- plural hence all apps open.

TouchWiz - re-order applications?

Within the applications panes of TouchWiz(3), is there a way to re-order application icons alphabetically if you have manually ordered them whilst in edit mode?
Display them as a list. The list is shown A-Z I believe. Or use ADW.Launcher instead as I do.
I take that's a no then...
inside the apps menu, press the menu button then select edit.
now u can sort them the way u want "hold on the icon u wanna move till it come up then move it"
to move the icon to a different page, while holding it, drag it to the edge of the page, and it will automatically jump to the next screen
This is what I do in the launcher port:
Settings > Application > Manage Applications > (Filter All) > choose Twlauncher > Clear Data
When you return to the launcher it will re-cache data and present the app drawer alphabetically. Downside is you lose all saved homescreen icons and widgets.
kenshinta, that did it, thanks for that.
To the others, yep, I know how to move the icons around, I was after a way to reset them to alphabetical. The clear data tip did it, reset the launcher to default.
good tip kenshinta thanks!

up until this post i have hated touchwiz, now i i can change the 4 at the bottom!!! this is amazing
Or alternatively you can use gtg465's modded launcher. The downside is you lose the number in the message, emails and the Samsung app market.

Recent Apps List - Question

Press the home button brings up a list of recent apps... simple and straightforward. However I would like to know if there is a way to disable that function or prevent specific apps from appearing in the list.
Any ideas??
It's a built in feature into Android, not (Im)possible. However you'd probably have to dog thru the code and edit it heavily.. If it'd even work that is.

Xposed Installer + App Settings module
-> find the app you want to mask in the recent apps
-> Enable modification to the app
-> Show in recents -> Disable
You can do a lot of stuff with Xposed :good:

Is there a way to see recent apps and switch between them?

Is there a way to see recently launched apps and switch between them?
This function should be definitely included in default system. So useful!
Can't test it now but try it with long pressing the home button

Ok, didn't know. Thank you
I had the same idea but did not work lol.
I am not sure what you are looking for exactly, but the list of apps on the original launcher is always reorganized to show the most recently used apps first. Or are you using a different launcher?

The best way of doing this is with LMT Launcher using it's Pie feature. Install it, and set up an item as Activity -> System UI -> com.android.systemui.recent.RecentsActivity. This gives you the recent apps, which is normally non-accessible on the shield. You can then add a few others as you see fit. I've added the power menu for example, which gives you the full power off, reboot and sleep options. Not found that anywhere else. All works best with a mouse, so you're best using an alternative launcher like HALauncher. But I suspect most people are doing that anyway given how restricted and awful Leanback is.
It can be downloaded here.
this is like the third or fourth thread about this

Enable Multiwindow in MIUI [Nougat] No Root

We all know Xiaomi doesn't let us use multiwindow on its MIUI though its an android nougat feature. However there's a nifty trick to activate this feature on any nougat MIUI device including our Mi 5.
Note that this works on nougat based MIUI only.
First download the app called Button Mapper. You need the pro version.
Playstore link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=flar2.homebutton
Open the app and give permission for services.
Go back to the app and click the 'Menu' button. On top activate customisation. Click on long press. Scroll down and select Split screen.
Your device is now ready to use splitscreen or multiwindow feature. Open an app. Press and hold the menu or recents button. Slide your finger from the extreme bottom of the screen to slide the window up. Now you can open and run another app simultaneously. When using two apps at a time, press the outline separating the windows for a few options.
Make sure to allow the app to autostart in Security>Permissions>Autostart.
Not all apps are supported by default but you can do it by enabling force activities to be resizable from developer settings. And this won't always work like you intend. You may face a few bugs.

Just got news that miui is bringing multiwindow in miui 8. The alpha builds will get it first. Quick reoly is probably a long way to go, sadly.
Thank you
The quick reply is really much important and useful then the multitasking window , I hope someone here can find a workaround or an app that can do this without rooting , I have tried some floating apps like notifly but all doesn't provide any thing near the native quick reply feature

Havent looked into it. This is probably because the app alters input of the device. Does three finger screenshot stop working when using two windows at a time or just after configuring anything within the app?

Just swipe away the apps you want to close manually and leave the desired one there, close all will close all, there's no way to change that.

You can lock the apps and prevent them from closing. In the recent apps, there is a 3 dot menu in the top right corner. Tap it and you will see the option for locking apps.

Ha what do you know, didn't know it had that feature, nice one!
I have this same problem. Trying to find a way to lock my Tile App. Turned off my battery saver so system wont close open apps. Tried everything i could think of and that is suggested
on line. Nothing works. Tile cant even help.
How do I do what you suggest?
How do I access the recent apps? Is it through the 3 line button at bottom of sceen where it shows small pages of everything open or somewhere else?
When I look there....the individual pages don't show the 3 dots.
Thank you for any help you can offer!

Hi,
What you mean "tap on tile app"? I can not find "allow background activity". Phone is galaxy s8, android pie.
Few days back a call recorder apk sent me there and I realize this option is not deleted from android. It just hidden, like stop FB updates.

See the gif I attached
Ok problem resolved.
There is three options to be set:
1) "Sleeping aps" - go to Settings and type in search bar on top "Sleeping aps"
I Add all apk except: AutoBlutooth, Button mapper, Call recorder, Weather widget, Email and messaging apk
2) "Optimize battery usage" - go to Settings and type in search bar on top "Optimize battery usage" Click again on top row "Optimize battery usage", Click on "App not optimized" and change to "All", find apk that make problem by sleeping.
I Disable :AutoBlutooth, Button mapper, Call recorder, ect. I do not add here email and messaging apk, as they never have sleeping issues. Maybe because not have 3day(default sleep setting) not using them in a row.
3) "Allow background activity" - go to Settings==>>Apps==>>Select application you want not to sleep==>>Battery==>>Allow background activity
It will be set to Enable to all apk, that are not added to "Sleeping aps"
Additional step:
"Device admin apps" - If Application is already here, can give Admin status. It will prevent accidental change of "Optimize battery usage" and "Allow background activity"
p.s
This why my messaging apps have Enabled Allow background activity and Optimise battery usage.
Button mapper, Call recorder ect have Enabled Allow background activity and Disabled Optimise battery usage
