[Q] How to tell which network my S5 is locked to? - Galaxy S 5 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey all
i recently received a gift from Germany - a new S5 SM-G900F .
I've been told that the seller put a local SIM Card in the device and initiated a call for about ~5 minutes,
so it won't be Region Locked.
But when i enter a local sim card from my country, i get a message "Invalid SIM" and a request for network unlock code.
browsing a bit online, i found out that there are paid services to get an unlock code, but for that,
i need to input what network the phone is locked to.
How can i check this?
plus,
is there a free way to get the unlock code, or only the paid ones?
thanks!

Ask the seller?
There are online vendors that will do a database search to match your IMEI to a provider.
The CSC in the baseband may identify the originatind carrier.
Root your phone and look at the system properties to see what MCC your phone is whitelisted to.
You can find elaboration in the forums. There is a wealth of information in existing threads.

Thank you for the reply.
of course asking the seller seems to be the simple way - but it was bought from an ebay seller in germany, and in the meantime
of waiting for his response, i'm looking for an alternate way.
i'm not really sure what CSC stands for, but the baseband listed in "about" is:
G900FXXU1ANE2
About the MCC part - i've rooted the phone and installed Phoenix rom. i have no idea what MCC stands for
or how to check it.
I'll be grateful if you could direct me.
Thank you

I'm interested too!
How to find if my phone is factory neverlocked or not?
And...how to check if the phone is region lock?
I buy the device from ebay!

sim free software

hello got a contract phone from o2 not unlocked if i download samsungs sim free firmware and install will it be sim free or do i have to get it unlocked by o2 still ,,,sorry if its nooby question but search everywhere thanks in advancel
Works both ways. You just have to install an unlocked firmware.
Follow this thread
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1064894
I thought the network lock would remain even if you install a clean version of the firmware. I might be wrong though?

ca i just change the csc then without doing new firmware leave o2 branded on
I guess its possible. Try searching the thread for the answer. There might be people with similar situations
Adding firmware does not network unlock your phone . Changing the CSC does not network unlock your phone either .
If you wish to network unlock your phone . You can pay mobileunlocked.co.uk £14
Or alternately ask O2 for the unlock code.
I agree with the last post, flashing a generic firmware will NOT remove the sim lock, all that it will do is remove the branding. If you have a contract with o2 thay may give you the network lock code within 5 days although I opted for mobileunlock.co.uk (£14.99) and got it whithin 12 hours.
Once you have flashed the unbranded firmware you will need to do a factory reset to completely remove the branding.
Warning....this will probably change your CSC code, if you send it back to o2 for repair they will know!

Atrix 4g At&T totally locked

Hello guys,
got one atrix at&t 4g in hands right now wich cant accept any sim card. Even the at&t one. Customer told he bought it as unlocked at am usa bestbuy shop and as arrived in home realised it´s locked indeed. As far i can see also to at&t sim card as it asks for network pin. I tried to updated it to [STOCK ROM] Android 2.3.4 Gingerbread 4.5.91 (Safest Update) following xda guide, but it keeps locked also to at&t. N tip or help from someone?
Rgds,

i did it, but the 8-dig unlock code did not work. Will try a 16 dig from a diff supplier. Weird is it should accept at&t sim card. But it doesnot.
im having a bit of a hard time understanding what u mean by the ATT sim not being accepted..if u mean there no signal when u put the sim in, its because ur friend bought it without activating it with an ATT number most likely. In which case a non active ATT sim will not register with the Roaming partners which will show up on ur phone as no service. Get a valid code from a seller such as cellunlock.net i used them and they're code worked perfectly, once u sim unlock the phone then put in a SIM from ur country and it should pick up signal all u have to do then is create a motoblur account or choose to skip that process.

Thany u for replying...
Sorry man for yr misunderstading. Wht i mean is wht i said: it does not accept any sim card. Neither one from at&t. Then, if i insert an at&t sim card (yep, i have more than 4 of them) phone asks for network pin, just like it asks when i insert other operators sim card, like claro brazil (i.e).
Its regular expected behavior should be accepting, at least, the at&t sim card since it´s from usa at&t. Of course it would not show network signal cos i am outside usa and my at&t sim cards have no credits, but it should not ask for a network pin when a at&t sim card is inserted.
Rgds,

Hi there Antonio. Had same problem here in Peru. Thanks to Tenfar´s CMW recovery and Gingerblur I managed to make my Atrix work with Claro Peru and Movistar. Just look for them in the development forums.

sounds like the phone is asking for a SIM Pin or what's known as a PUK Code, which unfortunately if u dont know it, u have to contact the carrier of the sim card for it, my advice would b to try to get a sim unlock code, put the code in just to make sure it is unlocked, then stick the sim for ur country's carrier inside the phone. It will probably ask for a pin again at that point call ur provider, and give them the imei/serial of the sim and ask for the sim pin/puk code. hopefully that resolves the problem. Also do not try to guess the code more then 3 times or u will fry/burn ur sim card and will need a new one.

Are you sure it's an ATT Atrix? Could it be that you have for example a Bell Atrix?
p.s. according to widely spread beliefs, if you type in the network unlock code wrong too many times, the phone will become hard locked, meaning it won't accept any sim card. could be that the person you got it from did just that.
If you can still put in a network pin your good. See, you may have an AT&T sim, but it has no service so the phone wont read it until it's unlock. You need to purchase an unlock. DO NOT GO GUESSING. I believe the Atrix has 5 attempts before locking you out forever.
at & t
@xploited
yep, it´s from at&t. It is bundled into at&t pack and also i flashed it OTA last at&t release.
@Purple Drama Llama
yep, it still asks for network pin code to unlock. No one msg like contact operator or phone freezed or whatever. Then i think it may not be hardlocked... yet.
p.s: ordered a third supplier an unlock code. Hope not be refunded this time since i hope it may work good. Wish me luck.
Rgds,
Hi, guys. I have the same problem i've purchased atrix without contract in the at&t retail store, they e-mailed me the unlock code, but the code is wrong i said it to them, they were surprised and e-mailed me another one and it is wrong too they (in the att store) said, that either of them should work and they don't know what to do. i still cant use my sim card. At&t sim was never used in that phone. is it important to have att sim inserted even once? and what to do with the phone?
baseband needed

Hello Folks,
at last i managed to solve it. Flashed 1FF-olympus-user-2.3.4-4.5.91-110625-release-keys-signed-ATT-US-GAS_NA_OLPSGBATTSPE_P011.sbf back and got the same: unsuccesfull unlock. Then flashed the baseband Retail Brazil Radio.sbf and enter the unlocking code from at&t and Voila... unlocked!!!
Thank you all. Let me quickly get into Aura

I'm a N00B, but I've spent close to 30 hours reading up on posts the past three days. I have the same problem as stated in the original post... even my AT&T sim results in a request for the unlock code now.
I started with an AT&T Atrix. I unlocked the boot loader, put CWM recovery on, put Alien v4 ROM on...then the next day AT&T called me with my unlock code for international use. When I put a new sim in it asked for the code, but did not accept it "Network unlock result unsuccessful" Two other sims just immediately went to "Subsidy Lock ..." statement without asking for the unlock code... then my AT&T sim stopped working, and went to asking for an unlock code right away. Phone also will not pick up any signal, nor connect to any networks
I have entered many codes many times, and not circumvented the error, nor permanently locked it...
My next steps are to install the Gingerbread 2.3 ROM available here: https://supportforums.motorola.com/thread/49191?start=0&tstart=0
Then use RSD lite to flash the AT&T 4.5.91 firmware available here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1125944
After which I am hoping I can enter the unlock code, then re-unlock the boot loader, and flash back to alien v4 ROM again.
Do you think this will work, or have any other better ideas?
Should I use RSD Lite to flash the original firmware .sbf file?
My best guess is that the unlocked boot loader is preventing the phone from carrier unlocking ???
Extra credit:
- any idea how the phone is not permanently frozen after entering unlock codes up to 50 times?
- Will I need to put CWM recovery on the phone again?
- Any idea how the AT&T sim stopped working (while still working fine in another phone)
Please help and I hope this post will help others...
the boot loader unlock .sbf was only 13 MB, but the original 4.5.91 AT&T firmware .sbf is 1.5 GB unzipped... is flashing this mega-file through RSD lite the way to get this operating, or warrantee returnable again from its present state of unlocked boot loader, and not accepting any sims? Thank You
---------- Post added at 04:31 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:31 PM ----------
FYI: when installing the MotoBlur Gingerbread 2.3 ROM I get a
"Verifying current system...
assert failed: apply_patch_check ("/... lots of alphanumerics
E:Error in /sdcard/Blur_Version....
(Status 7)
Installation aborted"
any ideas? Thanks for your time on this...

[Q] Yeah, I'm a n00b, and I need help with an S4 i9505

Hey guys,
I have a Galaxy S4 i9505 here and I need to get the SIM unlocked on it. See at the moment it's registered to O2 with an O2 sim card. Putting in another gives the message: 'SIM network unlock PIN' and requires a passcode. There are many guides on the internet which instruct people how to use the service menu *#0011# to change the network settings, but unfortunately I can't access the controls (the main menu doesn't appear regardless of what I do). Also there's something called "GalaxSim Unlock", an app, but I've installed this and it doesn't work either (gives the error no unlock method known for this device).
I've managed to use Odin to root the phone...or at least I think I have - but everything is exactly the same. Can anyone on here help me because it's a real pain in the arse.
I'd be happy to discuss it on Skype if you'd prefer by the way. PM me and I'll give you my ID - I would post back the solution here just so anyone reading knows.
Phone details:
Type: SAMSUNG Galaxy S4
Model: GT-I9505
OS: Android 4.4.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUFNB9
Kernal version: 3.4.0-481100

That method via *#0011# doesn't work anymore. Unfortunately only paid solution for now. I got mine unlocked within 40 min and cost me €15.
Yeah, unlock it by IMEI :highfive:
Really? There's no way to unlock it via changing the software?
I know of people who've managed to unlock their iPhones using jailbreaks - I would've thought on android it would be even easier. There's really no way to do it, despite being able to install a completely new operating system?

Nope.
****ter. Okay, no worries.
Another question: If I put let's say, a vodafone SIM card in it now and get it unlocked, will I have to pay again if I change to a different SIM card later, say Orange? Will I need to pay to get it unlocked twice or is it just once for all networks?
Thanks again.

[Q] Is it possible for a S5 to be unlocked? (Sorry if in wrong section)

Sorry if this is in the wrong section folks (Please move if necessceary(
Had a fallout with my mobile provider (EE UK) so more or less basically my phone well my sim card with them is dead. I've signed up to Three Mobile (Forgive my terrible spelling) I have no idea if the phone is locked to EE though and no way of checking it currently (I'm going to flash it with a Three mobile firmware soon) even if it is locked which I fear it might be is it possible for the phone to be unlocked?
Already it's not started well. Tried to flash the 3 mobile firmware via odin and the thing failed! Help
can you let me know if you manage to get it unlocked im with ee and there customer service is rubbish,,,
This I have NO idea if this will work I can't verify just now but apparently this is a code to unlock S5'S:
http://autoomobile.com/news/samsung-galaxy-s5-unlock-code-leak-came-from-the-inside/1006249/
I need to get my phone up and running a bit first I will let you know of course if I get anywhere
There are no free SIM unlocking methods available. In particular the method in the post above will not work on any S5. You can pay an unlocking vendor $10 - $40 to unlock your S5. And a few carriers may give you an unlock code if you have been a customer for a minimum time period and have an account in good standing.
It's good practice to do a search before posting a question. Most questions have already been asked and answered and there is a wealth of information in existing threads. Anyone who had tried searching for this question would already have their answer as there are dozens, if not hundreds of existing threads about this.

Samsung A5 2016 Sim unlock

Hi guys, phone came from Italy and have Sim-lock, i flash it with Odin for Ukrainian 4 file official framework but still sim-lock,i check all service code, and codes (0000 , 00000000) for unlock this but its doesnt work, pls help me find a solution of this problem,P.S. i have root so i can maybe check code in phone hardware but where pls help, thanks
I understand that the 'lock' in your phone is company related. Surely you need a sim unlock code for that, there's lot of pages where you can pay for that. Even maybe your actual provider could unlock it for free, you should check that. As far as I know, the sim-lock codes aren't removable with a software updating (odin, firmware, etc.).
