I am using the Extreme Debloat ROM. I have got everything set up nicely, but I am on V 1.2 and now 1.5 has been released and I want to upgrade. Do I have to start from scratch and reinstall every thing or can I just flash the new zip over the old partition?
THANKS

Ok, so I have my Vibrant rooted but am still on the stock ROM. I want to try out a diff rom but I got a quick, stupid, question.
I use ROM Manager to backup my ROM now. I have the original backup of the stock ROM. When I apply a different ROM, can I just restore the backup and go back to stock via ROM Manager with no issues? I know you could on the myTouch, just want to make sure its the same way on the vibrant as when the official froyo gets released, I want to be able to flash the OTA.
Thanks
I don't see why you couldn't...
just be careful when trying out a froyo rom. nandroiding back to an eclair rom may cause issues because i don't think the nandroid flashes a kernel. so, and i could be wrong, you will need a standalone kernel to flash as well. you should be able to find the JI6 kernel pretty easily on this forum.
good luck and have fun!
edit: however, you can flash an eclair rom right over a froyo rom, because they usually contain a kernel. honestly, even tho i backup before every new rom i try, i hardly ever nandroid back to a previous rom.
Another good idea is to flash back to original Eclair ROM with Odin (as that gives you a nice fresh start) and then nandroid your backup.
I have the shift with android 2.2 with kernel version 2.6.32.21-gcd7abbd, stock rom. I want to upgrade to a new rom and kernel but am not really sure what the proper process is. Do I have to upgrade a rom first then the kernel or vice versa. Is there an upgrade process that does both in one swoop? I rooted my shift following the directions on this site (automated root process). I would like to use gingerbread of some sort. Is there a readers digest version to follow? I apologize for such a noob question but I don't want to break my phone. Thanks in advance Rob
Try the MikG executive edition listed in the development section. It's Gingerbread, and has some sense 3.0 in it and is fast enough that it doesn't need a kernel. The proper way to flash is make a backup of contacts and apps, then boot into recovery, then wipe user data, clear the cache and dalvik cache, then flash the Rom and then the kernel if one is available for that Rom. All Roms come with a kernel I believe, but some devs make different ones with different capabilities
You should also make a back up of your current rom before any wipeing or flashing....
Better to be safe than sorry....
I run CM7 with the 1.8ghz kernal and havn't found anything better suited for my needs
Thank-you for your help

Some roms require you to also install the google apps as well right after flashing the rom. It's really been hit or miss with me on when I flash a kernel though. Before or after resetting the device after the rom flash.
Dose any one know where to get the stock kernel for deck rom. I am currently on tiamatone but its too glitchy and szen kernel has, long wake response. I yhink because i update to 1.3b
You can simply re-flash the rom over the current rom, no need to wipe.
Thanks but i done it twice today... I been reading that the original kernel that came in rom works the best i don't have the file nor made a backup
Wont i lose my data like that?
Pretty sure it's in kernel manager lite. Its just the cyanogen mod kernel.
Hello everybody...
When i got the pjone i updated to the latest official update (28.12.11), I was having some problems so i downgraded using this tutorial http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1420728, and than i found out about oxygen rom, and wanted to flash it.
Downloaded the lates version for huawei ideos x5 (2.3.2), wiped cache and flashed it using CWM, but got stuck on the Oxygen logo. I installed 2.2.2 again and than i read here that wiping everything should solve the problem, so i tried again, but this time wiped everything before flashing but this time it didnt even get to the oxygen logo?
Does anyone knows what might be the problem?
Go to official 2.2. Then install oxygen.

Which recovery are you using? You must use genos 4.0.05 or stockwells 5.0.2.6.
5.0.2.7 from geno and 5.5.0.4 from Blefish wont work with 2.2 because they are made for 2.3
i was using blefish 5.5.0.4, noob mistake i guess. i will try with new recovery.
Use this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130524 or this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1288223&highlight=5+0+2+6 both should work fine
Do you really offer using this oxygen rom to a miui rom user? Are there too many advantages at this rom?
Yann, it worked lile a charm, thank you very much. The rom is running smoothly.
I never used any other custom rom, but comared to the official roms this one is a lot smoother and less buggy.
Im new here, should i close the thread?

only one more question... when i go to systems it says i only have 300 something of ram, shouldnt it be 512?
I think it depends how many apps you have installed in phone memory, move some apps to SD and check if get more ram free.
I think that some RAM is reserved for system and GPU. This is why it only showes 300MB
Hello, newbie here. Not a dev, but I've been flashing roms on my last few phones and I'd like to think i have half a clue what I'm doing, lol.
Was reading through this thread...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2664652&page=4
I'm currently running CloudyStock 1.0 with TWRP 2.6.3.5. I understand i can keep root by flashing SuperSU right after flashing the ROM, but will it cause problems if i flash any other mods before rebooting (like the walkman mod, for instance)?
So I flashed this rom last night. Works great and still rooted. IMHO since your coming from different Android versions I would not flash a mod in the middle of flashing a new rom.
1. It may not be compatible with 4.4.2 framework etc.
2. Much like you I've been around this for awhile and it seems like with this phone there is no really easy way to get back to a previous version of Android without wiping everything. Upon flashing this rom the Kit Kat version overwrites the TWRP or custom recovery.
Personally I would wait to flash mods until someone cracks this and makes it where TWRP can work with Kit Kat. Which will not take too long I imagine. Xposed doesn't work yet with 4.4.2 missing that... Hope this helps!
