I've always just ran the stock firmware that came with it. Not sure what update I was on, because I don't use the WiFi and don't get updates. Anyways, I was reading and it just cut off on me. I plugged it up and it came back up, but it said it had like 98% battery and not charging. I left it charged all night and used it today for a couple hours. It turned off and when I tried to turn it back on all it does it show the 'read forever' and restarts, it just boot loops. Also, instead of showing the 'read forever' sometimes it just flashes white and then reboots. Any ideas?
Try doing an 8 failed boot reset. I described the procedure in my NC Tips thread linked in my signature. See item A12.

Ok this is weird. So my nook color is stuck at the battery too low to power ON screen. I had it rooted to HC installed on my device memory. The nook died completely and now this happened. The weird part about it is this. When i have my sd card in, it boots up just fine to clockwork recovery mode. Without the sd card, it wont boot up. I have tried everything in clockwork. Data wipe, re install, everything. This is really pissing me off.
Btw one more thing. I am using the black plug that goes to the wall that came with the NC but the plug coming out of the black plug is the one for the original Nook.
I've read on the NC info sheets that come on the device and also on the B&N nook forums, you cannot use a charge/usb cable from an original nook on a NC. The two devices use different voltages, and they warn you can damage your battery. You'll need a NC cable.
Plug it in your pc and leave it on for overnight, it takes a few hours to start up with a non stock charger.
I am facing two sets of simultaneous issues which I initially thought was unrelated but now it seems they may be related and hence could possibly be a very unique problem. I have searched high and low on several forums and havent found anything which could help me out.
1) Dead Battery: A couple of days back my nook color (was running unrooted stock) abruptly switched off at 50% battery. I charged, it then switched off when it hit 60%. Now it switches off the moment i unplug it from power.
Can I take out the battery/check the connections/leave it out in the sun etc. and could it bring my battery back? Can I replace the battery myself? (btw...this happened on the exact day when my 1 year warranty expired so I think I'm on my own)
2) Infinite Boot loop:
2a)Stock boot-loops on "Read Forever" screen2b)tried flashing CM7, it boot loops on "Cyanogen Mod, Loading..." screen - doesnt even get to blue andriod bot.2c) CWM v3.2 eyeballer version (from SD) boot loops on "Loading" screen.
The good news: I am able to get into CWM 3.0.2.8 from an SD Card but no matter what i wipe and/or re-flash, it goes into boot loop when i reboot.
My hypothesis 1: There is a problem with some part of the nook which is outside of /cache, /system and dalvik which are the things I am wiping when I reflash a ROM.
Can someone help me out with what I need to do to correct that part?
My hypothesis 2: Since my battery is totally dead, there is a small gap of time between the "Loading/Read Forever" screens of CWM3.2/CM7/Stock and the actual start-up during which the NC tries to switch to battery power. The moment this happens the device dies.
Could this be a possibility? If yes, what are my options?

Go to my tips thread linked in my signature to get an updated CWM boot SD. That 3.0.2.8 is too old. Then try doing a wipe battery stats in the advance menu. If that does not revive the battery, someone took the back off and temporarily disconnected the battery and seemed to fix his. Look here for how to do it:

Still Stuck...maybe for a different reason
Thanks leapinlar..but unfortunately worse has happened, now the NC is not even booting till the "read forever" screen. When plugged in, it just flashes a white screen very briefly every 2-3 seconds. This to me indicates that the battery is now totally dead.
History: About 8 months back my Nook original charging cable partially broke. After that, the nook has never displayed "charging" when plugged in. I presume this is because the "fast charge" connectors in the cable are ruined. Hence, it was always "slow charging" - taking about 8 hours for a full charge.
I have continued using it like this for 8 months now, cause I'm in India and there are no B&N stores or accessories available here. Could it be that continued long term use of the battery with "slow-charging" actually leads to deterioation of the battery till the point when it just dies totally?

While you where still under warranty it would have been a matter of calling tech support to get the cable replaced. Even now why don't you order a replacement over the Interwebs?
I would be more inclined to believe that the battery is not being charged. When mine broke I could get the charge led to come on but I had to position everything just right and leave it that way overnight or it would not charge. Fortunately I only had to do it that way a few times till the replacement came.
You can order a charging kit over the internet. You do not have to get it directly from B&N. Just search for BN-ADP-H01. That's the charging kit for nook color, and includes a BN cable and charging block for about $ 17 US. I am sure there are companies that will ship to India.

This morning I was playing angry birds and my nook just shut off. I assumed my battery died so I tried to plug it in. Immediately it started to turn on and then as soon as the nook color screen came on it cut off. It's been doing this all day. It also keeps saying that it is preforming a system update and that it is restoring to factory settings. It only does has any activity when it is plugged in but it will not do anything when it is not plugged in. I have tried every combination of the power and the "n" button possible to try to fix it. is there anything else i can do?

Is the nook color a refurbished unit? Did you root it? Is is on the stock ROM? If it is a new unit bought at B&N return and exchange for a new one.

It could be your battery is not charged enough. It is trying to update, but will not update if your battery is below 15%, so that it assures there is enough to finish. Leave it plugged in for a while, even if it does cycle.
It is also possible that it is trying to repair itself with a built in repair zip,'romrestore' and failing. Try making my bootable CWM SD from my tips thread linked in my signature. Boot to that and see if it is stable. You may have to run some of my partition repair zips if you cannot revive it. Then you would have to reinstall stock.

I was using my N7 this afternoon and it ran out of power. I plugged it in and heard a buzzing noise coming from the device and the charger, but it was booting as normal. After the boot animation stopped, the screen went brown and odd static patterns started flashing. I quickly unplugged it and restarted it. This time it ran out of power before the boot animation finished. I plugged it in a third time and turned it on. This time, a different boot animation appeared ("android" text with a shimmer effect) and went on for about five minutes before I unplugged it and disconnected the battery. I plugged it in again (without the battery connected) and all that appeared were black static-y patterns that seemed to be going in a cycle, as though it was trying to boot. I was using the franco kernel, with a pretty big undervolt (around 300mV). The odd thing is that it was completely stable with the undervolt. I searched for the issue, but the only relevant thread was never answered. I'm kinda freaking out. Any help would be great.
Edit 1: I have just successfully booted into recovery and made a backup, as well as a cache and dalvik wipe. I installed a copy of franco kernel I had in the downloads folder (r48). When I boot, I still get the old "android" shimmery boot animation that won't stop, and I can't move the backup to my computer because of this (I'm using TWRP). To clarify, I have the wifi-only nexus 7 and I was using r61 of the kernel.
Edit 2: After leaving it in the bootloader, plugged into a computer for about 10 minutes, I came back to see the weird black static again. I'm going to factory reset and hope that that fixes it.
Edit 3: It did not. After about 10 minutes, the screen always goes fuzzy and starts buzzing. I'm going to try to send it ti ASUS. Any info is still helpful, though.
Edit 4: I did some further searching and found this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1805772
I'm definitely not the only one with this problem. I'm gonna send it back to ASUS anyways, to hopefully get a better model without battery issues and to get a free redo of the super-easy-to-scratch silver rim. Now, to try to remember when I bought this thing...
well.. my NST 1.2.1 started acting up, froze from time to time
wanted to restore old image using the managed manager, not stuck on the "loading" can't power it down...
update... ok, i can get it to start but it freezes after a minute or so
Are you sure that the battery is ok?
Are you doing this with the charger plugged in?
