[Q] Pin screen lock doesn't set in immediately after reboot - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello. I am using i9505. No matter whichever ROM I use, pin lock doesn't set in immediately. Only after a minute or so, pin lock appears. Before that it remains unsecured with swipe to unlock.
Any idea?

Did you find a solution?
I have the same issue. It used to work but at some point a few ROMs ago t stopped working.
I was told it was the kernel but I have tried 4 and all with the same result, basically the PIN lock does not activate untill 30 seconds or so after the phone boots up.

Same issue and same model, only using stock rom i coukd fix the problem. Doesn't matter the kernel etc. It does not work.
Did you find a different solution?

I changed to a pattern lock for now. And to increase security I don't have the swipe tail/trail displayed.

I was able to solve the issue, it was a problem with permissions and file ownership.
I have replaced the owner of /data/system/locksettings.db, locksettings.db-wal and locksettings.db-shm to system and also password.key, gesture.key.
Before doing that please execute a nandroid backup, if not you could probably run into an unbootable device.

Fingerprint sensor completely stopped working

I'm currently running kennethpenns 2.3.4 beta 3 GB rom, and at first the fingerprint sensor worked flawlessly, now it never works. Even after I reboot, the sensor doesnt work.
Not quite sure what thee problem could be. The only mods I've installed are the battery fix and the 1% mod. Anyone else experiencing this problem? I'm considering just doing a fresh install of 2.3.4 using either kennethpenns or cherryblur

I have the same issue. It started happening after I flashed Kholk's kernel which messed up my wifi. Since then, I have tried changing kernels and such, to no avail.
did you do a data restore with titanium?

Yeah, but not a fingerprint data restore though. Only apps. I just did a factory reset and the fingerprint sensor won't even scan when I try to add the security lock now
Did you by any chance flash a new kernel? Faux123's for example

No new kernels at all. Flashed the kennethpenn's 2.3.4 radio, though that was a few weeks before the fingerprint sensor just completely stopped working.
Also, seems like the lock pattern no longer wants to work as well. I just set a pattern lock, fresh install of 2.3.4, and sometimes when I unlock it'll ask for it, and sometimes it won't.
There has to be something wrong here. Maybe it was the enable wake on volume mod? Though thats not installed now on my fresh install of 2.3.4
I really hate double posting, but does anyone have a solution for this? Should I just go to att and get a replacement?
Finger print scan fix
this should fix it. go in and set your pin code. reboot the phone. now go back in and set up your fingerprints.
I had my phone on 1.83 and used the bootloader unlock, root, then a modification to the SQL to get unknown sources avail. I had to use RSD and an sbf for 1.8.3 in order to get the ota to GB to install correctly. after that i factory reset my phone just to be sure. when i was setting it up i had this issue. the above got it working.
Unfortunately that didnt fix it. Whatever the issue is, is deep in the system data because flashing new roms doesnt fix the problem.

Unfortunately that didn't fix it either. Cleared cache partition, dalvik, and did a factor reset/wipe of data.

pure stock, after OTA gingerbread my fingerprint reader stopped working entirely as well.
Don't care as I don't use it, but irritating to know, I was actually hoping it would improve performance so I would actualyl start using it.
I had the same issue after installing 2.3.4 and read somewhere that turning off your phone, removing the battery for a couple minutes and putting it back would fix it. It did fix it in my case.

Stock bell 2.2.2 stopped working now..
my fingerprint scanner stopped working...tried to restart, remove batt, change the diff types of lock options...no successs. any suggestions?
Yeah this issue is really annoying. I'd hate to have to go through the whole process of getting a replacement. Its crazy that both the fingerprint sensor won't work, and the pin code lock won't work either.
Bump Bump Bump
This worked for me also. Stock with 2.3.4 OTA update. Set up a pin. Then chose the fingerprint sensor option. Thanks!

[Q&A] Fixes and Questions

I have created this thread to clean up the forums a bit and to fix one confusion that most people in the forums which are saying which can mislead people to think that user means that when they don't mean that.
Q: What is the different between brick and soft-brick?
A: This is the issue I was talking about above.
A soft-brick is where you cannot access the kernel or/and rom and a brick is where you cannot access the bootloader so you cannot turn on your device unless you JTag it.
Q: Since I flashed a kernel I got stuck on the splash screen (Google logo bootloader screen), I attempted to reflash but it did not help.
A: Make sure the kernel is supported by the Rom's build number and Android version, to fix this you have to flash a supported kernel, remember that not all kernels are supported.
Q: Since I upgraded to Android 4.3 via OTA I noticed a large battery drain, WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!
A: On day 1 after the upgrade Google Backup will be using your battery for restoring your data so you will have to wait until it is done BUT then it will backup your settings such has brightness and app data but you can switch off "App Data" from the sync settings to stop Google Backup.
Q: A while/day later the issue is gone but Google Services is draining my battery.
A: That is actually Google Maps doing the draining, it is using the internet to locate you, to stop the battery drain go to Settings, Location settings, and disable WiFi & Mobile network location.
Q: Titanium Backup is not restoring my backups, what can I do?
A: Flash SuperSU v1.51 via recovery, this will fix the root issues and the Titanium Backup restore issues.
Q: Root is not working on Android 4.3, I'm panicking!!!!!!!!!!!!
A: Don't worry, flash SuperSU v1.51 has mentioned above to fix root since it now uses the SU Deamon due to the new security.
Q: The stock recovery says "No command.", what can I do?
A: Either keep pressing or hold volume up and power to unlock the menu.
This does not always work for certain users so I would try volume down and power so see if that does anything.
Q: How do I disable the OTA updater?
A: You will need root and an application, thanks to @joshuab227 for the information, the following is from joshuab227's post:
Here's how to disable the auto OTA download on any ROM
Install Autorun Manager from the Play store.
Then enter its recommended advanced mode.
Go into the settings and enable the following : system entries and system app disable.
Disable com.android.gsf.update.SystemUpdateService$Reciever under Google Service Framework

Q: The Play Store app and web store will not recognise my device!
A: @ColdEmbrace has got this issue and found the solution so that should explain why the start of the post starts how it starts:
After trying all of the above options my device was still not showing in the store. I went to this link.
play.google.com/settings
I clicked on one of my devices and clicked the update option this loaded my Nexus 4 onto the list it is now available on the web store.
Thanks everyone for the advice and I hope this helps people who are still having issues.

Q: My device says that I have no internet connection with a empty signal bar with or without a sim card.
A: The user @matt0401 was one of the victims with this issue and managed to fix this issue with a interesting solution:
Wow, I'm up and running! Weird fix though...
I installed the toolkit and downloaded the ROM, and was attempting to get into fast boot manually because trying to do it during the unlocking process in the toolkit wouldn't work. I thought I remembered the buttons for getting into fast boot from my old Gnex as being "hold power and volume up at same time". I tried this, and the phone went to the white "Google" logo and then vibrated, and then screen went black and the LED notifier at the bottom of the phone glowed red for about 2 seconds. The phone then rebooted, about 10x faster than before might I add, and when I was booted up I saw "No SIM detected... emergency calls only". This would infer my SIM slot was finally being detected, whereas before even with no SIM inserted I just got "No Internet Connection".
I popped my SIM in, rebooted, and the network is connected. Time to review 5 days of missed texts. Thanks for the hand!
tl;dr --> Anybody having this problem, try turning it off, and then turning it back on with the SIM inserted, holding POWER + VOL UP til it does this hard reset type fucntion. When rebooted, the problem should be resolved.

Q: I have to reenter my pin code for my sim every time, what do I do?
A: @lucker#1 you guessed it has the same issue has well but he wasn't the OP of the thread that the issue was discussed in but he did sure find a fix, the following is a quote from his post:
i've also had that issue the second day after receiving the phone. I removed the sim, put it back in but that didn't help - i looked at my sim card tray and i realized that a one side of the sim card chip was close to one metal side of the tray and i figured that could be the issue - so what i did is i took a stripe of adhesive tape and made sure they wouldn't touch - I haven't had the issue again and it's been more than 2 weeks.

Q: Since I installed Android 4.3 a few of my apps are force closing, what should I do?
A: You have to reinstall that application to fix the issue.
Q: I am getting screen flickering.
A: Flash the correct kernel which supports your Android build and version.
Q: Got a kernel panic, HALP!!!
A: That is pretty rare for the kernel to panic but you can actually easily trigger it, to fix it you must reflash the kernel (make sure it is the correct one!).
Q: Since Android 4.3 on YouTube using Slimport there is a blue graphical glitch, why is it doing that and how to fix it?
A: Since Android 4.3 there is some major bugs, improvements and fixes and the graphical glitch (I got this myself) is due to the new Software Encoder, there is no fix yet but you can go around it by using VPlayer as it apparently supports YouTube videos and it has Hardware Encoding.
If you have any questions and answers please post them here.

[Q] Problems with screen and Back, home, menu and something else!!!

Hi guys!
I've just bought a Note3 n9005 in Singapore, starting with ANdroid 4.4.2
At first it worked very well. But after some times I restart, an error appeared immediately after the phone is on "Unfortunately...process phone.android.com has stoppped". I choosed "OK" and it wont come again if I dont restart my phone,
But it's not only all my problems. In fact I had used a fake S-view although it doesnt work with kitkat (It's a gift from Phone store, It was only used to protect the phone like a flip-cover). And a new problem appear: sometimes my phone is in LAG Touchscreen does not work, I try to drag the Notification bar down, I can do it, and then the screen displays the "notification infomation", touching is unresponsive. Home button and 2 touch buttons Back+menu does not work too. It is just solved by turn off the screen using Power button, and turn on it again.
Can someone tell me the reason about my problems? And how to fix them?
Thank you!
P/s:I'm sorry this is my first post so it can contains errors. Tell me please

What did you do exactly? did you root your phone and try to delete some stuff? use touchscreen test for your touchscreen to see
the problem,, you can find them on the play store.
What is your phone build number? last resort is just get the stock firmware and reflash it with odin3.09. search it over the forum.

If that doesn't fix it, you may have touchscreen issues. Some Note's are affected by this and need replaced.

ROM with auti restart when telephony problem occurs

I have Defy with telephony layer problem. If this problem occurs with stock rom, this layer will be automaticaly restarted and phone remains connected network. I updated to Android 4.4 Kitkat for Defy and Defy+ by Quarx but at this rom, if problem with telephony layer occurs, pop up message comes and asks, if I wan to restrart phone. And since this moment, phone is not connected to network, until I restart completely.
Can you recomend me some alternative ROMs, which restarts telephony layer automaticaly as stock rom does?
Thank you in advance!
But it will automatically restart after 30s as I know if you don't do anything.

it should, on some nightlies phone just stays turned off though. clean install from sbf might help to get rid of those restarts at all.

infinit loop in screen unlock on GT-I9505 with LineageOS 16

Hi,
I have a S4 GT-I9505 running lineage_jfltexx Version 20190912 nightly.
After a few days, I was not able to unlock the screen with my pin.
When I entered the correct Pin, the unlock screen appeared again after a few seconds.
Entering a wrong pin gave an error message - wrong pin entered.
The current fix I'm using is:
Setting screen-lock-mode to 2 (instead of 0) in /data/system/profiles.xml
This disables the screen lock altogehter.
I found out a work around by creating a new user and a new profile with a lock-screen feature.
When I use the lock-screen feature profile, I cannot unlock as primary user (infinity loop).
Switching to the new user, I can unlock the phone, switch to a profile without lock and
switch to the primary user again.
So there has to be a problem with the user profile of the primary user.
How can I reset this profile for the system settings?
I tried clearing the system settings cache, but this did not work.
Thanks.
Hi fkno,
Same issue for me.
Do you succeed to deal with this issue in a better way?
Thanks

Not yet.
I tried to track the problem. Changing the pin / trying to unlock the phone and
see, which sections in the user profile got a new timestamp.
For me, it looks like it is in the com.google.android.gms section of the user profile.
I'm not sure, wether I can delete or overwrite this directory while the phone is running.
And if I delete this section, wether it will be recreated when rebooting the phone.

FYI, I have the same identical problem on LOS 17.1 but on a different device (marmite). This is an Android issue, not something related to this or that LOS version.
