[Q] Chrome pause / stutter on certain sites, report bug? - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I think chrome on android has improved quite a bit since it launched but I feel like it's especially bad on my nexus 10, and on specific sites. Some sites, such as this one, are very responsive to touch and there isn't any lag to speak of. Some sites, however, seem terrible. One example is androidcentral.com - the desktop version. The lag I'm referring to is when you're scrolling down the page, and you try to stop the scroll, or scroll back up the page. It seems like the browser goes unresponsive for a second and then jumps up the page a bit.
This happens on many sites I visit, but androidcentral.com is one of the better examples. It kind of kills the browsing experience for me and is one of the reasons I don't use my nexus 10 that much.
I've googled and the closest complaint I can find was on this forum - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1986212 However it's an older post and when I checked on the link to the issue it looks as though it had been resolved.
So, my question(s) are:
1) are others experiencing the same issue?
2) is there a fix / workaround for those specific sites?
3) Is there a way to report this to google?

Mine freezes while browsing...I blamed Chrome Beta, and went back to Chrome recently.
Remains to be seen if the problem is gone.

Hi,
First, if you're using Chrome Beta (like me), I'm facing a similar problem as well, but usually mine goes blank and doesn't work till I restart the app. If you want the best fix, then it's best to download the Chrome or a different browser like Firefox or Dolphin.
You can report a bug here: http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/list

Browser not resizing some pages correctly

Hey folks ... first post, and I did try to search for this but came up with nothing.
Wondering if there's a fix or workaround for this. Some pages, when I load them, are not resized correctly for the browser. I would post a link, but ... you can google search for "best of the web today" and the first match is a page that does this wrong-resize behavior.
While it's loading, it is sized correctly. But once it completes loading, it resizes and it's too wide, so I have to scroll horizontally to read it.
This is just one example, but there are many pages that do this.
If I stop the page load before it's 100%, then it stays sized correctly for the browser (well, the block indents still run off the right side, but this seems to be true for every single thing that has block indents). So something that happens when it completes the loading is the problem. FWIW stopping it at like 95% doesn't seem to affect the content.
Any of you seen this, or know how to get around it? It's becoming quite annoying.
have you tried an alternate browser?
no ... is there an alternate browser that 1. doesn't embed ads and 2. supports flash?
tried it in skyfire, same problem.
flash isn't supported with android except the new 2.2 froyo build. even then, most official froyo builds haven't been released. there is a froyo build for the aria built from cyanogen mod source, but flash hasn't been figured out yet.
a lot of people like dolphin browser. opera mini is pretty popular as well.
@mattbollenbach, I think the OP may have meant "FlashLITE support", one of the nicer HTC features, if you ask me. I don't know if there are other browsers that support HTC's FlashLITE, but it shouldn't take too much to test that out.
Personally, the only thing that annoys me about the browser is when I load it, google is my homepage and it never displays correctly... haha, always way to big for the screen. Obviously, this is nothing more than the tiniest of gripes.

[Q] browser are force closing and more

This is my second Iconia, my first one I rooted the day I got it and 12 days later, my Iconia wouldnt stay connect to the internet. But anyways, I have tried Dolphin for Pad, Stock Browser, and even firefox for my Iconia. Everytime I browse a forum, or watch a simple video file on any of these browsers, it will force close. I have searched the forums to see if its a known problem or not. I typically will have no more than 2 tabs per browser open at a time. My question is, does anyone else have this problem, is there anything I can do to correct this?
The other issue I am having is, after switching over to a new tab the page will refresh itself losing its place/download progress of a video etc. Is there any way to correct this so it doesnt do that?
My Iconia is currently stock on 3.1 ( just in case I want to roll back to root access)
And this is happening with multiple browsers? If so, the refresh problem is also happening? That is extremely bizarre, and I unfortunately do not have much to offer than to let you know that this does not happen to me at all.
I can only confirm that this does not happen to me also, but I have applied all the latest updates, so maybe one of the updates has addressed this issue. Have you checking the system log (logcat or android system info app) to see what if any error is being thrown?
First of all, you need to update, 3.1 is so old school. Secondly, you can easily root 3.2 these days. Third, have you tried Opera, never had a problem with it. The other 2 you mentioned dolphin pad and firefox are beta releases.
Wow, that is kinda bizarre. I'm on rooted stock 3.2.1 and use Dolphin browser for tablets and don't have any of these problems. If you are interested in rooting and flashing a different ROM, I'd say go ahead and do it, and see if that fixes the issue. I generally read most of the posts on here, and have never seen anyone with a problem like yours. The closest thing I've had happen is the very occasional FC with Dolphin if I have tons of tabs open and try to DL a file or something. Sorry thats not much help, but maybe a new ROM might fix whatever is messed up for you.
Have you updated your Adobe Flash player in the marketplace? I had the same problem as yours before. Then I checked the market and there was an "update" button for adobe flash. So I updated, and the browser didn't for close after that.
I've got the same problem when a few apps are running in the background and when I try to open web pages that are a bit heavy (containing movies or large photographs, for instance).
I had the same problem with the stock browser and the Dolphin browser...
My guess is that the amount of RAM memory is not high enough... Maybe I'm wrong but it sounds to me simply logical.
No troubles for me either..
im wondering if you two are on the same sites d/loading playing the same videos..
i have issues with some site on my iconia netflix search function.. and similar boxes on other sites.. But some sites its fine..
i suggest do as told above.. get on a version of 3.21 try the honeylicious or other great near stock roms.. then if your trouble continue check with other web sites that you normally dont go to ..
Good Luck..
Thank's Renee
I will follow your advice and avoid webpages that include photos or videos.

Yep, I agree.
You would be surprised the number of apps attempting to contact the Internet in the background. You could install 'Advanced Task Killer' (free version from the Android Market) and check if the RAM is running low prior to streaming a video.

newbie question iconia slowness

I just got iconia 2 weeks ago and its not refurbished however I feel it is slow web pages take 8 to 12 seconds to load sometime if I'm performing any task it is stuck for 6 to 9second no response n then it works fine. There is a lag usually for 5 to 7 second. Is that normal I didn't root my tablet didn't install a whole lot app yet I just little bummed due to the lag n slowness. Any thing you can suggest or share your experience.
Many thanks
I'm not a fan of the stock browser. It tends to lag and has rendering issues. You might want to try Opera Mobile. ( be careful not to download Opera Mini- it's intended for phones) I've been using it for a week or so and really like it. Better rendering, smoother scrolling, less crashing.
I use dolphin browser works good.
bad browsing experience
I have tried many of the web browsers on the market..
My experience is Some view some sites better then others. I use the stock browser for most sites. There is NO real solution to this issue.avoiding portal type websites. Such as yahoo.com helps. if you need content from there or similar sites YOU can d/load there app from the Marker.
Also try this.. Advanced task killer app .This tool should not be allowed to auto start and run in background. but can be used to diag. a rouge app.
Get Advanced task killer from the market..
try opening it from time to time and see what apps are actually sitting in the TRAY. if you see some apps that you installed and have not used since your last reboot. try killing them and see if this helps.. Use this Tool for one app at a time. If you find the app causing the sluggish internet. See if you can adjust settings on it . Maybe tell it to not START to not push notifications and so on..
NOT All apps play nice . you might just have one of them that decide to steal bandwidth on a constant basis.
Good luck and we all feel your frustrations.. I will point out runny task managers in the background is BAD IDEA. not all apps setting in the try are actually running Many are static and waiting for your input..

I don't experience the lag you are posting about. You may have a misbehaving app on your hands.
I too have experienced random sluggishness at times with the stock browser. Its especially bad on javascript-heavy sites. My bigger complaint, however, is the random typing issues I have, like goofy text selection and seemingly stuck shift states on the keyboard.
This appears to be a problem with the latest update. Beforehand, this lag simply was not there. Some sites (XDA Developers being one) lag with the banner ad at the top loading. This happens on almost EVERY vBulliten 4.x forum. I think a lot of us are hoping this issue will resolve with ICS, since it's doubtful Acer will do much more work with HC.
I will echo what the others have said.
When I first started messing around with my A500 I too noticed a small lag. My solution was to root my device and load a ROM from the ROM list:
http://www.acertabletforum.com/foru...-a500-501-rom-list-updated-29-jan-2012-a.html
Most of the ROMs work much better than the stock android that comes installed on the A500. Also once I had pretty much cached the sites I use the speed issue vanished.
The stock browser lags. Especially when you use your keyboard (there are some videos on youtube) other browsers does not have this lags.

Is anyone else experiencing lag?

I have been very happy with my Nexus 7 since I got it. One major problem I am having is lag. I think my tablet has a hardware issue. Games like Riptide GP should be silky smooth with this hardware, but my game lags every 10-15 seconds. It drops like 5 frames and then is back to normal for another few seconds. It's not only with games though, it happens when I am scrolling down web pages. Even just news articles with no flash content and only 1 picture lag. At first I thought I was expecting too much from this device, but after watching some YouTube reviews it is clear that my device isn't as snappy as others.
Most UI interactions like swiping through apps are fine, but scrolling through my email quickly makes my device stutter for a second.
So is anybody else noticing this? Do you thinks it really is a hardware problem of will a software update fix it?
Been smooth all around so far. Don't own that game and haven't had issues with any web pages I've tried so far. Want to list a specific url that is extra laggy to try and replicate your problem.
It's not web page specific. It's any web page that I can scroll on (all webpages lol). Try reading a Wikipedia article. wait for the page to fully load then try to scroll from top to bottom in one swipe. Does it stutter of lag at all? Mine does 95% of the time. It doesn't make the tablet unusable, but its a little annoying considering my HTC thunderbolt is smoother most of the time. And project butter is supposed to stop all this from happening.
I'm assuming you're on stock 4.1.1 and nothing weird eating up background resources, then yeah, I'd take it back and exchange it. (I tried a few different wiki pages just to see and they were all smooth sailing for me)
Yeah I am on stock (4.1.1) I even rooted and flashed a custom ROM to see if that would fix it. It didn't. Thanks for testing for me. It may be hard to return to GameStop but I'll call them up.

[Q] REQUEST: Closest browser experience to the Sense 5 browser?

Just like the title says, i'm looking for a browser that functions as well as the Sense 5 browser and its silky smooth scrolling, instant text re-flow, fast page loading, and even it's pleasing visual design. I own an HTC One and while I do enjoy it, I choose to carry the Nexus 4 most days because of better battery life and my preference of Google's stock UI. I've accepted that the Nexus is going to have some short-comings compared to other devices, but the browser experience has never been a factor for me and now it is. I've always used the AOSP browser and it wasn't until Google began packaging Chrome as Android's browser that I realized just how much I liked the AOSP option. I've tried several times to like chrome as it' my desktop preference, but it's just a terrible mobile experience for me I purchased an HTC One first for my Wife and the day she received it I feel in love with the browser after using it. I compared it side by side with the AOSP browser and also Dolphin browser and it seemed to well outperform both. I've done some Googling and confirmed that I won't be able to pull the APK and get it running on a device that doesn't have the Sense framework, or at least not in any simple or straight forward way.
So does anyone that has used the HTC's browser know of any comparable alternative? I've gone to the Play Store and installed at least 15 or so of the most popular options, and some less popular but highly rated browsers, and nothing seems to compare. Dolphin or Dolphin Beta have long been my secondary browsers and they are far superior to anything else available but still fall a little short in my opinion. I run into trouble sometimes with secured site log ins, embedded video bugs even with flash installed & enabled properly, and its lack of force enabled zoom which is problematic when visiting any mobile site because I have very poor vision and the text on many mobile sites is often unreadable for me. The AOSP browser has seemed to develop it's share of compatibility issues with certain pages as well, and one of those often issues is the page turning blank & reloading continuously when I either zoom in or select a field to enter text in, but it only happens on desktop sites and not mobile. I believe it's probable lacking support, updates, and security since Google dropped it quite some time ago?
So I'm sure it's clear that I'm frustrated jumping between two browsers just for casual web surfing. I understand a secondary browser is pretty much necessary on almost any platform, but it shouldn't be required to alternate constantly just to browse my bookmarks and catch up on the news.
I feel it's unlikely that there's a solution in the Play Store for what I need, but with all of the app development and testing here on XDA I'm hopeful that someone has come across a browser here that's close to what I'm wanting in performance and features. I can't imagine that I'm the only one frustrated with lack of a high quality browsers on mobile, I just never realized it could be so much better before using HTC's.....Sigh!
