OK pics and proof or it didn't happen! Not cute to brag about something if you can't prove it.

Maybe he just wanted to be congratulated. Seems funny to me to post here about what he was finally able to do and accomplish AND leave out the part of how it was done. But whatever. Not surprised.

He is just Using ES File Explorer, it allows you to mount external Storage using an OTG cable, no root needed

Thread reopened.

So people as promise I have finally time right now to prove of everything that I'm not joking/lying here. I finished uploading this video on my YouTube channel for the tutorial.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Slx07fFCP3M&list=UUUThjouz1Vfbq_ZsnhKEVTA

You can mount external storage via USB OTG without all what you did, I've been using it a few months and I'm Stock/unrooted
Just plug everything in, open ES File Explorer, Select USB from left panel and you get the pop up to execute USB, only thing your edits are doing differently is executing the pop up automatic on plugging in a USB device which is nice if rooted.

Strange I have never seen seen that USB thing on the left panel before. I have also tried CM file manager once didn't work Astro no luck again. But with what I have done everything is easier now for me. That's why I also made a video so people that didn't know about this can try it out.

if you had to root to make the mod work why not just install stickmount? no mods needed, works for me. am I missing something?

Neat. If you can mount it, how can you install Ubuntu Touch on a flash drive and boot from there?

First off he didn't do anything. Its native to cm based Roms. If you are running stock you will need an app like Stickmount.

How can I take ScreenShots on my MT3G?
Now, before it's said: I have been unable to get the SDK to work, so that's out. Also, I am NOT rooted, as I have the Perfect SPL, and a Gold Card did not work.
I am running Home++, which gives the option to use the camera button to take one, but the MT3G doesn't have a camera button. Would the trackball work for this, as you use it to trigger the camera? Is there another way to do this? Is there maybe a widget or app that would allow screen shots?
Thanks for any help...
A thought for the Dev's; How about an app the when you hit either it, or an option with in it, it will give you 15-20 seconds to get to the screen you want to capture, then does so? Seems like it wouldn't be too hard, but I'm not a Dev, so what do I know... lol

I did it on two XP workstations, one a Lenovo laptop, and the other a Dell Desktop (both work PC's). I would not recognize the phone. I could use it as mass storage fine, as usual, but the drivers would not install (and yes, I DL'ed that driver app, still nogo). Also, I kept getting error that some file was missing and would need to be downloaded for the SDK, and excell file if I remember correctly. I DL'ed it, put it in multiple directories, still nogo.

HDMI Out

So, when plugging it into a monitor and only using the cable, the only options that pop up is the "Multimedia" interface where you can only listen to music or see pictures/videos stored on the phone. Has anyone found a way to do a real video out so you can display your browser or certain apps like Youtube? Or perhaps even enable Webtop so you can view it over just the simple HDMI cable. I hate to have to buy a dock just to use Webtop.

There is some value in the build.prop file that might enable this.
Look for ro.hdmi.mirror.enable=false
Change to true and reboot the phone.
See if that helps.
you need to be root of course.

Well that worked while the phone was booting. After it detects the HDMI cable it goes back to blank and then lets me choose between doing nothing and Entertainment Mode and none bring back the mirror. It was working fine tho. While it lasted...

I can't do that. While you are in Entertainment mode you can change anything on the phone or it kicks out and the screen of blank.
AFAIK the Atrix doesnt have true HDMI Mirroring, only the LG Optimus 2X has got that. I might be wrong naturally.

Yeah we need to write that down. It was working beautifully. I even so the Moto logo while it was booting and the unlock screen. As soon as I unlocked it OR it detected the HDMI cable, it kicked into another mode and overwrote that = true statement.
I will be rooting it tomorrow so I can dive in and see about getting true mirroring to work. But if we can't get it to do it, this may be a deal breaker for me. I can only assume it is possible somehow.

You can try to delete the following two lines from build.prop:
ro.hdmi.default.app=
hw.overlay.path.config=
back it up first!
Let us know if that worked.
I hope it wont cause a boot up problem (it should not but you can never know).

That doesn't do anything different. I've got it happily mirroring through the boot sequence, drawing the lockscreen and my security pattern to the TV, but just as soon as it unlocks, Moto's crapware takes over and away it goes. It never comes back until it reboots.
Forgive my relative ignorance with Android-- this is only the second one I've ever owned. Is there a way to bypass the restriction and uninstall either the Entertainment Center or the DockProvider packages? I have a hunch that it's one of those getting in the way of things, but I can't be certain.
anyone know how to get in mirror mode

What Do I Need Installed Before Rooting Xoom

Ok, so I've downloaded the from MediaFire, done a back up of everything I want saved and took an extra aspirin and Nitro pill just in case I go into cardiac arrest (well advised for me, since I just bricked my 2-month old DX a few days ago using a "one-touch" method for gingerbread).
Now, do I need any specific files or apps in my Xoom before I root it, like Titanium Back up?
Also, please bear with me with this because I am new, but I actually don't know what to do next. I mean, I know I should connect my Xoom (wifi/3g/4g model) using a usb cable. I also have the drivers installed on my computer, but I just don't know where to go to next.
ive always been an adb person so I rooted with that but for something fast and simple id recommend this seems to be workingbfor ablot of people

It does tell you what to do:
Instructions:
1. Unzip the tool and all of the folders and files into a directory. Preferably a folder on a root drive. (i.e. c:\xoom )
2. Run the Xoom One Click EXE tool and follow the instructions. Read the prompts carefully.
Ok, but I do know exactly what a "root" file is. When I look at my system (Windows 7, 64 bit), I do not see a file/folder named "Xoom".
Also, is that saying that I do it on my computer, or to the Xoom (putting the rooting files) into it?
Again, please bear with me. Also, I do appreciate your help.

No problem and just to let you know, I have not rooted my Xoom but have rooted my phone.
You need to extract the ZIP file you downloaded somewhere on your hard drive on your computer. The instructions recommend a root drive like c: but I don't think that matters. Just extract it somewhere and know where it is. You run the RootMyXoom.03.exe file where you extracted the file and follow the prompts.
There is nothing needed on the Xoom other than placing it in Debug mode which the tool will tell you how to do that when launched.
You got nothing to worry about
I used the one click method yesterday to root my WiFi Xoom it was easy. even though its really not one click its more like 5 to 10 but if u just read what it tells you to do as its going threw i think my 5 year old niece could follow the directions

But basically, I want to get the most out of this $600 toy in speed.

Bloatware Tool

http://www.xda-developers.com/how-to-remove-bloatware-from-your-android-device-xda-tv/
Does not need root access, you can remove .apks with it if you have root access, but it lets you disable without.
Download the Debloater tool, turn Debugging on, plug your phone in, start the program.
I just disabled LG Health on my Verizon phone with it. I would like to disable VoiceMate but I'm not sure what the .apk is. My apologizes if this is already known to work on the G4; I haven't seen it mentioned in the G4 forums, but I can confirm it does work.
Maybe someone can use this tool and compile a list of apps that are safe to disable using it.

No problem but be sure to add DTIgnite to the list, I missed that one. You will probably be better off uninstalling the DTIgnite update and disabling it from the app manager. That's the worst bloatware/spyware I've seen them preinstall. It's terrible.

Dang I was all excited until I realized I needed a Windows box. Guess I'll have to wait to get home and dig out my old laptop to do this.
