Just call AT&T and ask for the voicemail phone number. It's a general number for voicemail. They'll give it to you no questions asked

oh cool
anyone have that general number on hand then, by chance? Not desperate to spend time on phone with ATT automatic system if someone on here happens to know the voicemail number....

I believe it's different depending on where you live. Im in Orlando so I have a 407 number. Just call AT&T then hit 0 to get a live person.

yeah i had a feeling i shouldnt even have bothered then
been on the phone for 30 minutes now, still no resolution. Unreal. Physically impossible to do anything on the phone with AT*T that takes less than 20-30 minutes, apparently. One time i spent like 2 hours on the phone.
edit: after 45 minutes she gave up. said she'd call back and did not. LOL!
guess i'll try again tomorrow....maybe

Hi all,
I just got a Nexus 4 and am using a prepaid T-Mobile Sim with the 100 minutes unlimited data/messaging plan. Everything is working great except I am receiving duplicate text messages most of the time someone messages me. I was wondering if there is an APN setting or something else I can do to try and fix this annoyance. Was wondering if anyone else was having this issue.
Thanks.
My friend had this same issue.
The way we fixed it was power off the phone, take out the sim, power back up, leave the phone for 5 min, and then power back off.
Popped the sim back in and it was fixed.
When I see them next I'll ask to check their APN to make sure.
Hope this works for you.

Is it from people who are on various networks? Sounds like it could be a problem on their end. Every once in a while I'll get duplicate texts from people on MetroPCS, or Sprint if their networks are on the fritz. So try to have people from different networks text you and see if you still have the problem,

Same problem with T-Mobile germany... Senders are in different networks. I am receiving single messages up to 8 times. This happened on the i9250 nexus before, too. Same number, different sim card, different phone. Maybe related to cyanogenmod 10.0/10.1, as i never experienced that issue in stock. (To be honest, i was never long in stock Rom). The Problem occurs most times Ehen the phone is rebooted, or comes out of flight mode.
Which roms are you using ?

In general it's usually because of the sending party. Did you port your number also as that does cause it most of the time?
Nope, i just got a new sim card from my provider. I am a t-mobile customer for 14 years now, and never ported that number to another carrier.
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium
Not sure if you have noticed this, but it seems to happen when I briefly lose service. When I get signal back I have noticed that is when I am getting the duplicates. I've only been on T-Mobile for a few days after I ported my number from Verizon.

AW: Duplicate Text Messages
I made a support ticket @t-mobile germany. They told me, that this must be a bigger problem related to the network itself. The next time it happens they want me to call them and provide time of failure and number of sender to them.
But, it didn't happen again, yet.

Is there any way around paying at&t for texting using my main phone #? I don't want to pay them to get a few texts. I am still under contract. If I wasn't I would port to Google voice.

I would still try to port your number to Voice. I did it when I still had a few months in my contract. Here's how:
1. Port your phone number to Google Voice (automated process takes exactly 24hrs to complete) (Requires your cell service account admin credentials, have them at the ready).
2. Right after you request a port, go to your carrier's website and request a new number. This'll release your main number from the contract and dump it into their 'usable number' pool.
3. Pray until you get an email from Google that your port is complete.
4. Port your number to wherever you want or keep the number on Google Voice.
NOTE: This has a high success rate, but isn't guaranteed. You may lose your number, or worse: incur early termination fees (ETFs). I've never heard of anyone incurring the ETFs while following this guide, but it is theoretically possible.
anyone have success with this?

I have used it and LOVE gv, but be aware that you won't be able to send/receive MMS anymore
Also I wouldn't recommend that you port your number, you should just get a new GV number and then give that to everyone.

Other than what you stated that you have already tried...I dont have a clue. Sprint could be in the process of upgrading towers in your area which typically does wreck all kinds of havoc. Call customer care and check if that should be the case. If not, try clearing cache for messaging.

This has been happening for more than two weeks. And my HTC one on the same network can receive texts just fine. Since i'm rooted i've been switching to different roms to see if I could finally relieve texts. I went from Sacs custom rom to CM 10.2 and I just flashed stock rooted MF9 but I still cant receive texts. I'm thinking about restoring back to stock to check if text's work. Any suggestions?

Call Sprint and ask them to re-provision/activate your phone. This resets the recognition of your phone to the neighbouring Sprint towers.
You might want to flash back to a stock ROM before doing so.. Just in case they ask you to do something on your end.

Hook, line and sinker. You get signal as it needs to be able to make emergency calls regardless.
Is anyone else having any issues with the speaker when they are making calls on there S5? Whenever I'm talking with someone on the phone every 4 or 5 seconds I hear a low frequency beep the lasts about 1.5-2 seconds and then it goes away... After another 4 or 5 seconds it does it again. I really hope it's a software issue as I don't want to send my new phone in for a repair already.

Well if you are not rooted go into settings then backup and reset and then collect diagnostics and uncheck it and this theoretically turns it off, now if you are rooted you can install root explorer open it up make sure that you are mounted as rw then search the root directory for carrier iq and delete it this removes it from the device.

Sorry.. but what exactly do you mean by "disable carrier iq"? Cause I'm a real newbie when it comes to doing administrative stuff to your phone...
I also thought that it maybe could be worth Factory reseting your phone? But I've got a lot of settings and stuff that I don't want to do again.. but if it's really needed I'll do it.

I tried that. But I'm afraid it did not work.. The annoying sound is still active. But the weird thing is that sometimes and on some calls it's occures very often and being annoying as hell.. and then again it can be off for like another call that lasts 30min+.. Yeah. I tried all of them regular settings. Minutebeep, noise reduction etc.. The sound kept going. But I also noticed that when I connected my headphones and talked trough them that there was no annoying sound.. so I guess it's something with the phones own speaker.
But I put the phone on service today after 11 days of usage... lol. Hope they'll fix it!
I don't hear the issue when I'm using bluetooth in my car either. That being said I'm pretty sure it's a issue with the speaker in the phone. Time to swap it out for another device!

Target is ordering me a new device and hopefully it resolves the issue. It certainly appears that the issue is with the speaker.
