No. The worst thing is that car headphone jacks don't work. Seriously, unless you have Bluetooth in your car you can't use your phone for music.

Why wouldn't the car jack work? Should be your typical auxiliary one, right?

Yeah that's what you would think. Headphones work but auxiliary cables don't. The current workaround is using a headphone splitter and plugging regular headphones in one socket abd the aux cable to the car stereo in the other

That's crazy, did you try two different auxiliary cables? I know you can buy auxiliary cables new and not work. It's very common, unfortunately. I did see you posted that I guess various people have had this issue though.

OMG the best buy guy was right, the monster cable does give me better HD.... Dude just admit it, there is a pretty bad bug in that most cables dont work and the ones that do have popping sounds. The phone is also laggy. Think back to the froyo days, that's the way you feel using this phone. and the screen is dim. I'm not some troll, just someone who has owned this and the M8. Between the two I would still choose this one, but more so because the m8 has horrible battery life and an annoying power button that make its a pain to use.

Not sure what ur deal is slappy, but don't try to tell me how my phone acts. I have NO popping, or aux cable issues at all. It is what it is, take it or leave it. I just gave my experience with my phone, my truck, and what others have said. U started the thread, people here try to give input/advice, but if u already know everything why bother? If u don't like the phone, replace it with a device that u will be happy with. Very simple....
I don't have this issue at all. Plug into both a cassette adapter in my beater and an aux cable in my wife's minivan and both work flawless. I get an audible double beep when I plug in, the icon in the status bar shows I'm connected to Aux cable, and my podcasts and Spotify work flawlessly. Aux cable was $4 at the checkout counter of a Walmart and the cassette adapter was from my old XM dashboard receiver. Nothing fancy and no issues at all.

Hey guys, I got a product for review that I thought was really cool.. not only is it a 3.5mm adapter but it turns any headset into a handsfree kit as well. and it's cheap, from my time with it I've found it seems to be good quality and should last quite a while..
While the title is 'HTC', it's not an HTC branded product.. just can be used for them..

Snippet:
"The HTC Stereo Handsfree with Volume Control is from our friends at USBFever and it's really three things in one, a mini-USB to 3.5mm jack adapter, volume control and a microphone. This little gadget essentially lets you turn any headphones or earbuds you have into a handsfree setup. There are many choices out there for handsfree sets but really most have sub-par headphones included with them, and it's usually only one earpiece, with this gadget from USBFever you get to use your own headset. Being able to use any headset is very nice indeed, also you can get this for about $15.00 shipped to you from USBFever, so not only is it very useful but very inexpensive and well worth it..."

Sorry if someone thinks this is spam or whatever, but I get quite a few things for review for my AT&T Tilt and there are a few that really stand out as being useful and this is one of them that I thought I could share
That looks pretty interesting. I was looking into buying the Seidio version, which has one of those spring-wound cords, making cable management easier. That being said, I like the button layout and clip mechanism on this one more... I think these are much better than the regular USB to miniplug adapters though, as it means you can essentially make your own earphones/buds a 'headset' thanks to the built in mic. In-line volume control is also a godsend...

I thought the Tilt came out to be cheaper, unless service charges add up to the same price eventually...
The only thing I don't like about both the Seidio and this one is that because the USB connector end is L shaped the stylus becomes harder to remove and insert while this is in use. The straight ones, on the other hand, have a tendency to dislodge and/or break eventually. I think I'm going to go with the Seidio one though, even though it costs around 3 times the price, mainly because of the spring loaded cable control mechanism.

The stylus clears the jack fine for me, the end is flexible and just bends out of the way.. as for retractable, I personally don't like those retractable cables that much especially for something like this.
I've got the retractable Boxwave mini-sync cables and those are fine for that use but I don't care for them when used like this, it's too easy for you to pull on it accidentally and it to spring back in

That makes absolute sense... now you've got me reconsidering what to purchase... any chance of finding one of these on Amazon? I need international shipping to be specific, as I live in Turkey.
While obviously due to the direct connection the volume on these is bound to be better than a bluetooth headset (which is what I currently use and also why I want a wired headset), does the in-line volume control degrade the volume or quality even at its highest setting? I ask because I used to own a headset that I used on my PC with an in-line volume dial and even at maximum volume, I could tell the difference between one with in-line volume control and a headset without one...
USBFever sent it to me for review, and they run all items with $2.99 shipping worldwide, so I assume that means $2.99 to Turkey as well
so it's $12.99 + $2.99 Shipping = $15.98
http://www.usbfever.com
direct link: http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=301
as for volume, I personally don't crank it to the max but I hadn't noticed any distortion, I used it for about 6 hours yesterday actually while working outside my house and did have it up loud to help drown up noise, but not to the max setting... as for the two separate volumes you need to adjust each one independently of the other, like I would set the inline to max and then adjust my phone itself to comfortable max volume, and then I can lower and raise the volume in line without problems

I'm using this one, because of the charging capability. Works on tilt and fuze.
http://www.semsons.com/2miusband3st.html
I had both.
The second one (with the block connector) is really stupid.
After you plug in your stereo headset, you can't pull out the stylus anymore as it blocks it.
I went back to buy the cable (in the first link) as it is very handy.
Haven't tried the motorola one, but looks clunky.
What's the build quality of these adapters? I bought a similar 3.5mm adapter for a samsung phone on ebay and the build quality was crap--cheap plastic housing that I had to superglue within the first few days. Granted, for $5, one can't expect much and doesn't stand to lose much.

I got the same one too... Dont plan on using the stylus in the car too much so that wasn't an issue with me. This plug looks sturdy from what I see.. My main issue with the stock plug that came with the phone was its demented behavior when not used with the charger plugged in.. I use this phone similar to my old Moto Q (sound source aux in). When i left the charger unplugged to the charger, no audio would come out of my car stereo..I thought hmm. defective plug.. Take it inside and the audio comes out clean from my headphones.... I then thought lets plug in the charger to see if that cures the issue.. Well it didn't entirely.... I got that lovely alternator whine you get with cheap audio installs. I had to pull the audio plug slowly out of the adapter to get the sound right and even then it slips and I can hear alternator whine...
Please plug be the fix...............................

True. And if the stylus thing is REALLY an issue, I'll take it apart and just switch the usb port.
I bought a microusb to HDMI cable (Samsung P/N ECC1HU0BBE but not from Samsung, from some other random place) to see if it would work. It does not appear to work on my phone. I'm running the stock ROM, just rooted with the bloat removed.
I plugged it into an HDTV here at work, checked "TV out" in settings, and nothing. TV said it didn't see any input. I was dubious about this, especially since there's an option in there for NTSC/PAL which AFAIK doesn't apply to HDMI. This leads me to believe that maybe the TV out option is for something more like the classic ipod style analog video out through the headphone jack cable.
I tried: just checking the "TV out" box, switching between PAL and NTSC, restarting the phone with the cable connected, etc.
So, there's my anecdotal report. I'm guessing that our phone doesn't support this cable. I thought I had one of the latter (analog video) type in a box of cords somewhere but haven't been able to find it yet. Has anyone tried one of those cables?
(I'd post links to the cable I'm talking about but it won't let me! D
drat.
Maybe it only works with specific apps-- Did you try playing a movie in the built-in video player app?

You could have gotten a faulty cable. It's also possible the cable was assembled by some random joe making and selling junk cables. Where did you get it from? It may be a fake samsung cable and not true oem.

The cable I have looks exactly like that, down to the little plug symbol by the microusb port on the side. Also you'll notice that the part number you list is the same as the one I did but with an "STD" on the end. The page you linked me is where I started my search for this cable. The cable itself doesn't have any part numbers on it that I've found.
If it doesn't work on my TV at home either I'll take it apart and we'll see what's in there. I can't imagine much.
So, who knows? Maybe I have a knockoff, broken or wrong cable. If so, bummer for me, but that means that we still have the possibility of HDMI out on this device. So, someone buy that cable straight from Samsung (whenever they decide to start selling it) and prove me wrong! I'd be very happy
I bought the same cable and tryed everything...
I am not sure if it is a software issue or what. But it definitely is not sending signal threw this port. Tried a many different programs/apps and settings.
I thought "TV Out" was only for the analog video signal through the 3.5 mm jack.
where did you guys buy the cable?
just want to know
Thank You
It could be the cable. I had to buy a specific cable for my Greddy Emanage since they did something to switch the USB cable to make it proprietary. They charged $30 for the stupid thing too! Bunch of BS, anyhow, they may have done the same thing with the Vibrant.
I dont remember hearing anything about the Vibrant doing HDMI out though
i used an old 3.5 to rca cables from a motozine i had and video worked just fine on my tv. it kind of looks like crap on my 52 inch screen. but it worked. so im thinking maybe the video out only works through the 3.5 jack.
The Galaxy S doesnt support HDMI output. That was a accident statement from Samsung. That cable is for the "mondi".

Hmm. I wonder if it works on the Sprint Epic 4G, or on the international I9000. (There are several Galaxy S features that T-Mobile and AT&T have disabled, but which appear in other variants.)
What is the quality of the 3.5mm tv out..is it horrible? On youtube videos it looks really good, but its hard to tell by youtube. Will it look quite good on a 46" panasonic plasma?...no hdmi news is quite depressing, was really looking forward to that.
Hey all my android brethren! I am a modest if not intensive android tester/ researcher and this post is exclusively for the Samsung Vibrant. I have tested over 25 mainstream a/v out cables and have come up with one winner in stability, quality, and greatness haha! The winner is....GIGAWARE 3.5 A/V out cable for camcorders and other devices. The product number is...11A09 and the sku....040293024246. Radioshack has it...good hunti.g and watching your phone be more then what it is!
Update: The red input is actually the video i.e. yellow input, sorry everyone!!
Sounds more like a phone accessory more than phone development...but that might just be me...Thanks for your testing either way.

Just cut the headphone cable and attach RCA cables to it,
Headphone Wire Color codes
Red - Speaker +
Green - Speaker +
White - Video +
Gold - All Ground connects on same cable.
And your done.. takes all of 20 secs
Note: Make sure to burn off coating on headphone cables, just take a match to each seperate cable.

DRM, and yes, it does suck. But you can work around it by encoding your own and deleting the one that came with the phone. There's even an app in the apps forum to provide the launcher.

Yellow is video - red is right speaker, white is left speaker. What you don't get is stereo sound.
lol, "extensive" testing? Seriously? These cables are composite, the quality will NOT be any better from one to the other. If you have signal issues, then the cable may be defective.
BTW, the audio coming out of the phone is near useless with the 3.5 out. I have to increase my audio on the TV to near max in order to hear comfortably.

lol, "extensive" testing? Seriously? These cables are composite, the quality will NOT be any better from one to the other. If you have signal issues, then the cable may be defective.

Sure it could differ cable to cable. This isn't a digital output.

I bought this cable about a month ago. it was 30 bucks from radio shack. albeit 10ft long. works good but picture quality is so so. I also bought the samsung hdmi cable but we all know how that went.

Actually, no, I personally don't know how that went but I'm interested in the cable. What went wrong?

None of the micro-USB to HDMI cables seem to work.
Zune HD dock cables work
If your Zune HD owner with dock the Vibrant only needed 3 channel 3.5 mm. I found it out when I was watching some guy using the similar cable. Not HD though but it's a start.
EDIT: FIX!
It seems someone on Reddit (@Karolis-hex") has figured out a simple software fix for this. Thanks to @gok90 for sharing the reddit post and @codified for re-writing the fix below:
On your rooted phone, make a backup of the file
system\usr\keylayout\generic.kl
Then edit it to comment out the line beginning "key 226" - i.e. change
Code:
key 226 HEADSETHOOK
to
Code:
#key 226 HEADSETHOOK
Restart your phone
You may lose some headset functionality - the volume controls and mic on the LG Quadbeats still work, but the middle button doesn't seem to do anything any more.
This is my theory as to why the port is so messed up. Basicly the G3 will happily accept any 3.5mm jack that has 3 channels. If you use a cable with 2 channels (Most aux cables and earphones without a mic or buttons) the phone will not play along. Even if the 2 channel jack works originaly, it will change songs, pause music etc as the jack is moved, or it simply wont work at all. If you have this problem and you need aux offten as I do, get a 3 channel extension lead (the blue cable below) it will make sure that 3 channels enter the G3's port, even if you are using a 2 channel jack.
Ps: Im not sure if you guys figured this or not before now, i'm just sharing a tip :good:

For me and a few others, using an aux cable only works 1 in 50 times, and some dual channel earphones dont work at all haha LG included earbuds in the D855 model ;o

That's what im saying above, it aint everyone, but ive experienced it and seen allot of threads about it. Do your cables have 2 or 3 channels? If 3, then thats why you've had no problems. Eg, the earphones that come in the box work perfectly.

Hmm you must've got a lucky one haha! Some 2 channels seem to work, but most earphones ive purchased recently (2 channel) haven't worked.

Exactly what happens to me when I use any 2 channel jack.

Glad this doesn't happen to me. My earbuds are 2 channel.
@sonspot The G3 does come with earbuds.
Time to try a 3 channel cable then. This is really frustrating. :/
Thanks!!! I was about to buy a new pair of headphones because I was having that behavior and I thought that they were broken.

No prob. It was pissing me off. I bought new earphones in Canada when I was there...they kept pausing and skipping songs, broke em, got new ones at home..the same happened xD SO I finally bought some JVC Gummy + ones and they work perfect. They also come with that extension cable in the photo.

I wonder if it's because my earbuds are like £250 earbuds... (thank you credit card points!).
Wasn't aware about some US variants not having earbuds... That's unfortunate, but I always prefer using better quality ones over the stock ones.
So basically a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male audio cable is 3 channel if it includes a
Inline volume controller
or
Inline Noise Filter (aka ground loop)
Are there any other ones?
I've tested it with earbuds and two types of full-sized headphones without any problems. All with 2-Channels.
My Device is the D855

No. Those are 2 channel. They have a left, a right, and a common contact. Hence the three sections or rings. Three channels would have a fourth ring/section for the mic and/or track and volume controls. Hope this helps.

Yup. The G3's port must be designed to only work properly with jacks with 3 rings/channels.
Since I installed 10j on my d855 I haven't had the audio issues anymore. It flawlessly detects my 2 channel aux cable and it no longer
"pops" when changing tracks.
Just thought I would add my 2 cents.
