Ok Google from any screen...? - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I've been reading all over the internet about this new feature recently released by Google, and plenty of comments from people with a note 3 have gotten it to work, however it's not enabling for me.
There are supposed to be new settings under "OK Google detection" in google now settings, but they're just not showing for me. I have the latest version of search and play services. I'm still on 4.3, but I've read others have it working on 4.3.
Does anyone have these new features working on 4.3 on your note 3??? If so, how did you enable it?
TIA!

Damn dude you have to learn how to read...I was asking for help for someone with 4.3... sorry to be rude but I don't like wasting my time.

Google was enabling this feature by account, but if i'm correct, you can search for "Ok Google Everywhere" in Google Now to enable these settings.

Google voice broke after root?

Hey all
just got a Google nexus 7 UK and have really enjoyed using it. I have been using Google voice quite a bit but decided to unlock and root it the other day. After reinstalling Swype Google voice no longer responds when I say "Google",I have to push the Mic icon.
I'm not sure wether it was Swype that caused this, the unlock our root,I did search for a solution but found nothing. Google voice is still selected as an input method on keyboards/input as well as Swype.
I have uninstalled Swype reinstalled It. Had voice as my only input ran out of ideas.currently on 4.1.1. Didn't know where to place this thread as I'm not sure where the fault lies
Thanks in advance

[Q] Google Play - "You have no devices"

Hi,
I tried the "Framework thing" to get the OTA it was not only not successfully but it broke my Google Play. I have readded the Google account and now Google Play works on the device but when I try to install using the Google Play site it tells me that I have no devices.
I tried to do that http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669507 but didn't help either.
Any ideas / help appreciated, thanks.
Edit: After doing this a couple of more times it works now.
Just a tip to anyone who thinks of doing the same. The head engineer of Android (Queru something) said that it's not a good idea to do that.

i know twitter is an abbreviated medium, but it would be nice if he told us why it's a bad idea.
my N4 didn't see the 4.3 OTA update (nor the previous one) until after i did the framework trick.
google play was borked after the 4.3 update completed but removing and re-adding my google account appears to have sorted that.

Google search update

I just read a news article saying that the new Google search update is supposed to allow us to use the "ok Google" hotword from any screen, including the lock screen. I downloaded the apk, but can't get it to do anything different on my Verizon s5. Has anyone else gotten this to work? Does it require the phones to not be rooted, maybe?
It doesn't work for us yet. I did all the steps as well but unless it is pushed for your device it's a no go
I thought it was supposed to work with all phones. Too bad, I would have liked the lock screen functionality.
According to AP, it's being rolled out by account. So we wait.
http://www.androidpolice.com/2014/06/25/apk-download-google-search-v3-5-14-brings-ok-google-hotword-detection-to-any-screen/
I guess I missed that part. Why offer a download link to the new apk if none of the new features will work anyway?

They may have only realized that after the article was written and the .apk was offered. There may be other subtle things that have been improved, speed for example. I think one of the comments mention that the acknowledgement "ding" is different.
if its the one in the new android L then my rom should have it.. ill hafta check tho.. i kno i added the android l launcher and velvet.apk from android l to my rom..

Other things do seem to be subtle and to work, just not the 'OK,Google' detection from any screen. When you go in to set it up, you have to say that phrase three times so it recognizes your voice. However, it never registers so you have to back out of that screen.
Any update on this? I just received the Google search update and it doesn't allow the ok Google voice command on any the screens. I still have to open the app to use the voice setting

I got it today too. This always happens to me, I download an .apk from Android Police and usually a short time later Google Play will tell me I have an update for the same version number. So, my thought is that nothing has really changed and we are still waiting for Google as they roll the function out by account as mentioned in the article.
Thanks for the reply. Bummer
I don't know if I was late seeing this, but the search from any screen feature is available in my Google search settings now.

Touchless Control on the Moto G.

Here's a new feature on the Moto G, which works like Touchless control. Google added this on all Android devices.
How to activate:
1) Open the Google Now app
2) Tap the mic. and say "Okay Google everywhere"
3) Now go to the menu button (3 dots at the bottom) and tap it.
4) Go to "Voice"
5) You'll see "Okay Google Detection".
6) Check the first 2
7) Done!
Now, on any screen, say "Ok Google". It also works when screen is off, but only while charging.
Yeah it's not actually as useful as you might think and your a little late to the party.

It was being rolled out by region, I guess still is. Flashing XT1032 US Retail made it work out of the box. Maybe set TTS voice as one of the US options.

Maybe not what you want, but if you flash the US XT1032 firmware it will work. Eventually it should be available everywhere in the world.
Thanks

New to me too, but not at all working on XT1033
Great post, thank you!

Works from the lock screen as long as the phone is charging. Google removed a lot of functionality over the last 3 months. Voice control was removed from Google Music Player but still works on Nexus devices.

Thank you OP! Some of us are new to Android and appreciate the tip
Another tip for enabling this feature: (**Root Required**)
Firstly install UnleashTheGoogle.apk.
Once installed, grant it root permissions, and kill the Google Search app in the settings (Force close). Then you should see some options in the Google Now settings. The IDs to change in the "Config Flags" menu are 199 and 202. Change them to ON. Also, check that the 223 is ON too.

get Google now and google now on tap back

Just wondering if there is a way to get Google now on tap back on Google assistant Roms. Seems like they all have Google assistant now. I kind of liked GN on tap. Googling didn't come up with any answers.
Never mind I figured it out.
How'd you do it?

My Google app has updated, and now this doesn't work. Anyone know of any other way to switch off assistant and get the search bar back on long press of home?
I am really not interested in talking to my phone, or having it talk to me!

Hello...
Maybe I have a workaround. Go in Google play. Since your Google app updated itself, you have auto update apps in settings... Open Google app in "my apps and games" , click on the 3 dot menu on the top right corner and deselect "auto update" (see screenshot attached)
After that, you can go in: settings > apps > Google app >
Here you can tap on disable. Click "disable app" and on the second prompt "ok". It will reinitialize the app to the factory version.
Finally, you can go on https://apkmirror.com : http://www.apkmirror.com/?post_type=app_release&searchtype=apk&s=Google+app
And download an older Google app version of your choice. You need to enable "unknown source" in settings > security to be able to install it... :good:
Good luck...

I'm in the UK.. Got it last week. Have been trying ever since to get rid of it!
Short of rolling back the Google app version, the best I've found is using this app:

Hey,
This is likely the only way to do it properly. Let us know if you find a way without installing third party app.
Good luck...
