I am a newbie to Android operating system. As many other newbies, I got a lot troubles and puzzles when using my android phone, recreating themes or modifying ROM, etc... Then I have to post a new thread on forum and waiting for an advice. Sometimes it takes a lot of time just for a easy bug fix.
Therefore, I wonder if some experienced android users can leave their gmail address so that newbies like me can add as buddies in g-talk in order to asking for advices in some cases.
Thanks.
Best advice I can give you is to start here reading the Noob bible, read read read, then once you are more familiar with the phone, I would join one of the developers personal website forums. The people in there can and will give you advice, you can look into EDT forum, TW etc. All these groups have a varying level of skilled people in each of their respective website forums. But, before launching over to one, you need to have some education, and understanding so you can ask useful questions.
Good luck............. android is a great platform

99% of the time, all the "easy bug fixes" that you're referring to have already been addressed and resolved. I have been at this a while and have yet to start a new thread because my questions have either already been asked/answered, or I just figure it out myself. Don't get me wrong, I have no problem with people asking legit questions, but members starting new threads about common questions is a little irritating and shows a lack of effort in my opinion.
My bad - accidental repost.
Yeap I see, thanks a lot. ^^
if you need help feel free to pm me, no offense but i dont like leaving my email address around especially with everything i use it for. I generally check my XDA pms atleast once a day, keep in mind that i don't have time to walk you through everything step by step which is where the noob guide comes in. However i will always be willing to point you towards resources that will either instruct you on what to do unless its an incredibly difficult topic in which case ill do my best to asist.
Cheers
make a thread, pm me, ask for my number w/e I'll help you out..
I'm one of the most active users in the vibrant section
I really think that this forum needs a good sort out and some new mods or current mods (if it has some) to be more active in their role, If not step aside so somebody else can.
The dev forum needs monitoring regularly and non dev-projects/tutorials moved to appropriate sections as its my understanding that the dev section is for posting development projects or tuts/info on them.
Here is just a quick glance and list of some that should be in general or Q&A forum...

Totally with you. Our mod doesn't seem to spend much time here. I believe he's also monitoring the Motorola tablet thread (you know, the Zoom ) so maybe he spends a majority of time over there, I don't know. But we do need another mod.

I second that nomination. Natious is informative and helpful.
does the custom rom track user data? do any custom roms track the user data ie pictures or internet browsing? also how do you get the horizontal lock screen like the one that is on the iphone?
I'm trying to help you not get flammed..go to the development section, look at the ROM you are wondering about and ask in the appropriate areas. Your question is to vague so no real answer will be given. Seeing at this is your first post, you will hear "use search" alot so get used to it but really, use the search function and search for your answers. Learn more about ROMS in general and take time to study and then ask..
Good luck
Yea lol. Unfortunately, it is best not to ask any questions on this site at all. Someone will flame you regardless.
I don't know the answers to your questions, but, you might be able to try widgetlocker for the lockscreen.

You can ask questions, as long as you put then in the appropriate area. This obviously has to do with a specific rom, and should have been asked in that roms thread.
And the question about the lock screen has been answered a hundred times. There is no need to make a new thread when he could have just searched

and the title of this thread looks more like a statement, instead of a question. just saying.
Instead of using four posts to flame the guy, wouldn't it have been "cleaner" to just answer his simple questions and be done with it? This is the GENERAL forum after all. Those are very GENERAL questions.
1. To my knowledge, roms are NOT tracked. there are applications you can get that'll show you all incoming/outgoing data and see where it's going. This should tell you. The alternative, just like they said, is to ask the developers directly. From what I've seen, they take pride in their reputation and wouldn't jack with a rom just to track pictures of your family
2. Get WidgetLocker. It's $1.99 in the Market (if i remember correctly) It has a built-in setting for the iphone unlocker. If you need assistance with it, PM me. I'll do what i can!
cheers.

Last i knew, forum rules didn't allow users with less than 10 posts to post in the development section. Therefore he wouldn't have been able to post anywhere but here or the q and a section. He was fine with where he decided to post.
And i doubt miui tracks your data.
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
I do know that some chinese apps like GO SMS and Miren Browser seem to have some sort of tracking. I've used a packet sniffer and have noticed a lot of calls from/to IP addresses originating from China.
In GO SMS's case, it happens every time an SMS is received, which is quite alarming since SMS does not use data at all.
I haven't had the time to look into this , so there's no need to freak out just yet. I'll see if I can do more testing later this week. Remember, nothing conclusive yet...Just slightly alarming
ionno bout miui but i'd be more worried about carrier iq....
I doubt it you could always run a firewall and see what is trying to come in and out. Also there are apps on the market that can cause spam and track data you kinda take a gamble. Things that want root priv's and so on like a game etc.
There alot of hackers and so on from china and russia that's been going on for years tho. H
Also the guy didn't post it in the Q&A section so ya it's in the wrong forum. Too many people flame the newbie's for things If someone intentionally posted a question in the dev section or wrong fourm then they need to be flagged if it's way off topic. Gotta give the new guy some slack he is a noob lol.
Hi Folks
Thought I’d post a quick message to introduce myself
I’m Chris - your new Forum Moderator
I’m here keep an eye on things and help where I can. We all benefit when the forum runs smoothly and everyone helps each other.
Potted history of me:
Married with 5 Kids – first grandchild on the way (it keeps me busy!!)
I’ve been a member on XDA since 2007. I’ve learned, asked questions (yes, some in the wrong place), and I’ve developed for phones too.
As I’ve seen both sides. I know what it’s like to want help, and what it’s like to post your work and get flamed
Everyone makes mistakes and everyone deserves help so I tend to take the soft view over issues and try to help. Everyone needs to follow the rules though
I don’t tend to post a lot as I’m a fan of listening first, talking second.
Even though i'll try to keep an eye open i cant spot every issue without help
If you’ve any questions or any issues, drop me a message, (email, Skype etc) . I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. (Please consider things like time zones, work, sleep, Wife & Kids) it’s not always possible to reply immediately.
please feel free to say ‘Hi’ chatting is part of the community
Look forward to getting to know you
Chris

Hey everyone,
I am a student currently studying Marketing Intelligence in Singapore Polytechnic (Engineering with Business), and as part of my project, i need to know how you all feel about the galaxy s4 using this survey
My survey uses google docs, so there are no advertisements in it. Just pure survey. I have shortened the link with bit.ly for easier reference
Please tell me if they introduce ads, then i will remove the shortened link
The link is: bit. ly/misamsung
(Please remove the "spacing" after the bit . First time posting so i understand i can't post links)
Basically my objectives on my project are
• To find out how customers like the feel and hold of the galaxy S4.
• To find out if users are satisfied with the Samsung Galaxy S4 overall (Includes functions, application loading speeds, no crash) and
• To find out if the Battery life of the Samsung Galaxy S4 is good enough to last through a consumer’s day.
I hope you all will help me in this survey. It won't take long
i'll post the results here once my project is done so you can see the results, if you want. Please indicate your interests in the results here if you want to see the results of the survey
Thanks

Hate to be a party-pooper, but the Q/A section is for things like these. I'll do the survey though but the next time, please post questions and help topics in the Q/A section. This general section is for news/info regarding the S4.
Thanks!
