Hey everyone,
I'm having issues with my note 3 (tmobile) and I'm not sure if it has to do with rooting, but every since I rooted my phone I cannot go into my stock dialer/contacts. As soon as I click it, it just says "Unfortunately, Contacts has stopped." I've tried rebooting the phone. And still no luck. I've also cleared cache and data and still nothing. Anyone know how to fix this issue? I've had to download a crappy dialer until I resolve this issue. And even with another dialer I cannot get to my call log, it gives me the same error, but at least i can get to my contacts.
Anyways thanks for the help!
If it helps I'm on: Tmobile note 3 Rooted using towelroot On 4.4.2
I guess you did something wrong while rooting.

unrooting and rooting again may not solve anything.
Flash stock room of your firmware (region)
since you are rooted it won't cause any problems to flash stock, look in the sticky section and do make a backup of it data and rom via cwm
Thanks I'll look into this and read the sticky. Also did it make a difference if I've remained on Stock? And would this trip Knox or anything like that?

Flashing stock ROM doesn´t trip KNOX
But maybe you trip knox while try root. Except of towelroot

Hi, i currently have a samsung s4 19505 on tmobile uk. i am interested in rooting the device and running a custom rom,
However, i want to know whether the root and custom roms are stable at this moment in time. I have also, seen a few methods to root which would you recommend to be the best or most stable and likewise with the rom.
any suggestions are much appreciated,
Hey.
I have rooted mine with Chainfires Root method. It only gives you Superb with no recovery as there are no stable/official ones released.
Although that there are no official recoveries are available I think TWRP is the way to go.
About the ROMs, Cyanogen Mod has been created by someone as an unofficial one but everything works except for NFC.
From what I have seen, everything is going to plan.

You'll have to use Chainfire's Triangle Away app to reset the flash counter then you're good.
I have a phone which has a lot of problems after the KitKat update.
Now I want to try to reinstall KitKat. Samsung doesn't provide this, so I want to use ODIN and the firmware from SamMobile.
Does anybody know if I will do this that it will trip the Knox counter?
What if you try to just reset the phone to factory settings? I wouldn't know anything about Knox though. Hope you sort it out. :fingers-crossed:

I reinstalled my firmware and I can confirm that it indeed won't trip Knox.
As it might be useful I also want to share that updating using my Mac (with VMWare for Windows) gave me a lot of troubles. After using a native Windows laptop the update went fine.
Too bad it didn't solve my problem. Going back to the store to claim my warranty.

So forgive me if I'm asking a stupid question here but I thought that if I root my Note 3 I will automatically trip the Knox counter, even before I get anywhere near flashing a new ROM - stock or custom. Is that not true then?

You won't trip Knox if you install a KK rom but will if you try to flash bak JB.
Any form of rooting will trip Knox. There used to be safe ways that didn't but with the introduction of the newer bootloaders this is no longer guaranteed...
Have you tried backing up any info you want to keep to a pc then factory resetting, I found KK was a b!tch until I reset it due to old JB data scraps causing issues...

I'm on stock 4.3 and not having any issues at the moment - other than my Note 3 not picking up the 4G signal on 3 for some infuriating reason.
So can I flash a stock KK rom without rooting then? I'm probably being thick but thought you had to be rooted to flash any kind of ROM?

You have to be rooted to flash the custom roms provided here and that will mostly be thru recovery. It will surely trip knox. To flash stock roms from sammobile you don't need root. That can be done thru odin.
Sent from my SM-N9005 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
I would suggest however, if you are network locked to unlock 1st... If you need to flash a separate modem afterwards this can trip Knox as you aren't really using a "Stock rom"...
Also make sure re-activation lock is OFF.... If you go to Kitkat and you don't have a KK rom yet you are stuck with a softbricked phone until you do get the KK rom... You can't go back to JB after flashing KK rom due to a new bootloader...
I have tried several ROM - Sacs, TriForceROM, and then I even flashed the NAE modem and tried Negalite. All of them are unstable on my phone. Things lag really bad just switching from page to page. WiFi is unstable, going fast one second then slowing down to a crawl.
I am currently downloading UnknownForce's stock rooted NAE to try it out. I also haen't tried a different WiFi network, only the one at my house - my wife hasn't reported it acting weird for her iphone though, nor have I on my computer - I'm going to try my S4 on wifi when I get to work to see if it's the same on that network.
Basically my S4 has been unusable to me. I've been using my Moto X instead... any suggestions?
I can't help but thing I messed up somewhere like with the firmware or something. I've been thinking about taking into the store and flashing it back to complete stock and starting over.
Thanks
And yes. I did wipe everything including system before flashing the different ROMs
Update: I flashed unknownforces stock rooted and now it won't boot. I flashed it again for good measure and dissable the recovery flash and it's still not booting.
Try odin back to stock depending what firmware you are on.

I'm on NAE. If I do that it will add Knox correct? Would Knox show immediately that it's been custom flashed or only after the next custom flash?

Why the hell do you care if it adds knox? If your phone is unusable and you want to fix it then a clean flash is the way to go. Download the full tar file for NAE from Random45's thread in the development section and flash it in Odin. Problem solved, your phone will work great. Reroot with CF autoroot if you want. Yes, the Knox warranty flag will be tripped but that means nothing. You've already voided your warranty as soon as you installed a custom rom on it, you just won't be able to hide it from Samsung now. Knox does nothing to your phone to prevent you from using it or customizing it. All the posts about knox preventing me from doing this or blocking that are from users that don't know what they are talking about. Just fix your phone already.

The reason I was asking that was because if it still goes crazy then it would be something hardware related. At that point I would be going through Samsung for warranty coverage.
I will flash it back to stock. seems like my best option at this point.

If you have stock rom and rooted it, the issue is most probably caused by knox.
Removing knox or changing to a rom without knox should fix the issue.
So, I have the MF3 firmware and wanted to update it to the latest version. I backed up my phone, went to settings->Accounts->Backup and Reset->Factory Data Reset
I wiped my phone and after all that, it still has the custom logo. What can I do to get rid of the custom logo so I can update my phone? Any help you guys can give me would be appreciated. Thanks!

I did, but I also did a full unroot using the superuser thingy (I think it was Super SU). My understanding is I should be able to remove root, restore to factory default and the custom logo would go away. Any idea why it wouldn't be working?

I have the S4, Because I have MF3 firmware, I've been pretty careful to avoid doing any sort of custom flashing to avoid bricking my phone (since they locked the bootloader). Do I have to use ODIN to reset the custom status? And are there any significant risks to the phone if I do it this way? I'm aware anytime you mess with these kind of things, there is some risk, I just want to know it should be safe, it's been tested before, and I'm not just rolling the dice and hoping for the best.

Using TriangleAway app might brick ur phone and it might affect our phone, if u try it and it is Hard Brick and thats will be a problem over there.
Hard Brick and Soft Brick are different
Hard Brick is your phone is dead can't turn to recovery or download mode and you need to change ur motherboard
Soft Brick is usually just when you're phone is stuck in a bootloop, and as the name implies, is caused by a software error, usually the lack of a system to boot from or some other minor software bug that glitching boot. They are easily fixable by reflashing your ROM in recovery.

Where do I get the correct stock MF3 firmware file to be flashed by ODIN? I just want to make sure I use the correct one if I'm going to mess with ODIN. Haven't used it since my droid charge . . . which was a piece of garbage but I'm pretty sure that's common knowledge and affects no one at this point . . .

I went to that page and found my phone:
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/database/SGH-I337/ATT/
All I found for firmware is MDL and MDB. I'm on MF3 but I'm not sure which of these I can use. Would I want to use one of these two? Or would I want to use the TAR files from this location?

I had done that. I did finally get it working after resetting it a few times. No idea why that is though . . . Hopefully, I'll get those OTA updates soon so I can go back to enjoying my phone. I hate stock so much and don't see much point in making many changes since I'm going to just reload everything via titanium backup once it's all updated.
