Hello Everyone,
I am having some trouble getting my rooted, stock, sprint S4 to connect via miracast to my miracast enabled Sony KDL 65w850a TV.
I have tried to research this but everything on the forums, but everything that I am finding states it is for people with non stock roms/ kernals and/ or using dongles.
I was able to get my S4 to connect to my TV and share video via wifi direct, however, I can not complete a connection via miracast (both devices see eachother, however the miracast connection fails).
My S4 is:
rooted
stock rom
stock kernal
Android 4.3
Kernal ver 3.4.0-1927016
Knox has not been tripped
I did see here that hahansen3 suggested editing /system/etc/WFDConfig.Xml, to make the following change: <HDCPValid>0</HDCPValid>
The problem with this is that, I think this is for a Samsung TV.
Can anyone help me out with this, or does anyone have any ideas?
Would updating my S4 as shown here to 4.4.2 NAE help?
Thank you for taking the time to look and especially if you can help!

It's because you are rooted. Then it won't work. Atleast that is the case for our S4. You have to apply a patch to make it work, but that patch is not for you s4.

Thank you Lennyz1988!
-So if I unroot and go fully stock, screan mirroring from my sprint S4 will work with my Sony TV via mirracast?
-If I do not want to unroot, will this( click me) not work?
I don't know. I don't have a Sony tv.
Just test if it works without root. You can always root again.

I am using Allshare Cast Dongle and Smartview with my HD recorder a lot and these features is the main reason i got this phone in the first place.
I have root acces and It is working fine with old bootloader, when i reset with Triangle away and use stock-kernel. Now i have seen that Chainfire have got Triangle working on the new bootloader, the only thing is that we cant reset KNOX warrenty void. Counter and system status only!
Now here comes the quiestion. Can we root with new firmware-bootloader and use triangle away to get Allshare Cast working with KNOX warenty broken, I dont care about warrenty! i just want Root and CWM without losing features,
I am stil on the old bootloader but sooner or later i want to upgrade. (Android 4.3 next month)
I realy hope we can do this, or i will end up running Pure Stock Samsung Roms, MEGA DISASTER!!
I think i am beginning to get a little irritated at my new SGS4 HMM
My Note2 was 10 times more stable then this phone. I have had more problems with this phone in one week then i had with my N7105 in 9 month! running the same aps

What makes you think the SGS4 is the only phone that's gonna get a new bootloader?
If the SGS3 and the Note 2, also slated for 4.3 upgrade, receive an OTA then you can be guaranteed that it will contain the new firmware and a new bootloader...
Knox is used for warranty, the SGS3 and Note 2 aren't that old that they're out of warranty...

But that did not answer my question did it!!
Can i have KNOX 0x1 status, and use trinangle away to do a flash counter reset (not KNOX) on stock kernel 4.3 and get allshare cast working???
I dont care about KNOX as long as i can get Allshare working. I dont care about my warrenty, i just want to upgrade to 4.3 and be rooted and still have my allsharecast working. like i can on Jellybean

So try and tell us the results...
When I've checked download mode there is no flash counter anymore, just Knox warranty void status. As this can't be reset at the moment this could could be your problem however I have used a Galaxy note 3 with void 0x1 and Omega rom on it. I'm also using a custom recovery . I spoofed the System status to "Official" using wanam's mod in xposed framework. It works fine.... I just tried it again so I'm not lying my Ar$e off...
Exact same setup on S4 - Latest Omega, custom or stock recovery, spoofed "Official" status - and it keeps killing the connection....
I'm interested if anyone knows of any 4.3 rom and kernel combination (on the old bootloader) that works with the allshare cast dongle?
In my experiences trying to get this to work allshare cast seems to require a stock kernel. I've tried Omega 19 with almost every stock kernel there is but this combination always breaks wifi for me. Guessing everyone has had the same experience?
Hi.
My Samsung S4 updated my phone to 4.3 recently and it is giving me a few issues. The main ones i am stating below
1. Battery Life is almost 60% of what it used to be
2. Wifi doesnt connect if there is no internet on wifi: This is a major problem since i connect my DSLR through my wifi through this software EOS Remote. It was awesome to be able to directly connect download and share images while on the go but i cant do that now since when it tried to connect to my DSLR, it detects that there is no internet and disconnects.
Any solutions to both these problems are welcome although i never had this problem when i was on Gingerbread 4.2.2
Regards
Kashif
Gingerbread 4.2.2? hahahah
Anyway...
You have to look for a tutorial to reinstall the 4.2.2 via ODIN.
It is the Samsung TouchWiz, right?
It's not hard to find some tutorial.
Good luck ;p

I have the Samsung Galaxy S4 SGH-I337 Model with AT&T. I have recently downgraded from Kitkat 4.4.2 to Jellybean 4.3. The reason was so I could root it for tethering purposes to my Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 and other devices. However, after downgrading and rooting it the tethering tutorials are not working for me. I have tried several even the TetheringProvision.bak and bak2 one. No luck. Now at this point I feel that downgrading was pointless for me because as I stated the intent was to root and tether. I can't tether and none of the tethering paid and free apps in the android play store works for me either. Is there a jellybean 4.3 custom rom or Kitkat 4.4.2 custom rom with tethering enabled that I can download? I have safestrap installed on my S4.
I appreciate any help I can get with this!

I had the same issues and then one night when I was bored and started going through the Play Store, I found this app that works first time, everytime and with no messing with system keys, etc., WiFi Tether Router https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.snclab.wifitetherrouter
Make sure that you go to the website and look up your phone for the setting and it'll work perfectly.
Hi all,
i just bought a bluray BH-600 for screen mirroring purpose only, yeah.. because my TV isn't smart TV... lol
In short, my screen mirroring didn't work. Actually I want to unroot my device, but I can't find stock firmware for SM-N900 at sammobile.com.
in risk reason, i looking for another way to do that, maybe with a fixing patch.. I went already to :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2621550
but there is not for SM-N900.
any suggestion for me, please guide me step by step, because i'm a beginner.
moded my i337 long ago with the following and it has been working fine.
Rooted,
installed safestrap 3.72 (TWRP V2.7.0 0)
I have nothing installed an any of the slots only the STOCK rom box s lit
I have 4.4.4 KitKat installed (I337UCUFNJ4)
I have also installed the fix to allow WIFI hotspot since I use consumer cellular and they allow hotspot for free. I also wanted NO updates that would eventially slow the phone to a crawl and possbily remove my wifi hotspot mod.
I now have some apps that need lolipop 5.0 minimum and I'd like tofin a way to upgrade this phone to that.
I'm not a power andriod user but do know computers and networking and am a techie by nature. I was able to do the above myself but have long forgotten the steps.
Do you have recommendations for the easiest and safest way to update to 5.0 or higher on this S4? I know want to retain the wifi hotspot mod. the rest of the stuff on the phone is normal stuff that can be reinstalled.
thanks

I was looking for the Oreo ROM. Is there any way to get an oreo custom ROM for my GS4? I contacted AT&T but they told me that they no more provide support for GS4. TIA.
The only way to get an Oreo ROM running is to be on the MDL bootloader. Since you're on NJ4 your phone was updated past MDL and thus you are now stuck. Since you are on kit kat, you can use safe strap to boot custom touchwiz ROMs or you can update to lollipop and boot ROMs with flash fire. You can jump around to a few different kit kat versions I think, but that's all you can do as your bootloader is locked. Unless you upgrade to lollipop that is then you can only jump around to lollipop versions.

+1 That's how I got mine to OK2 with root. This post provided the needed Flashfire app
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78037038&postcount=1089
A Mobile Hotspot App is also mentioned in this post
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76089302&postcount=1084
If you search the thread for "Mobile Hotspot" without the quotes you'll find 4 posts that talk about it. I believe that's what the "I337_OK2_TetherAddOn.zip" is for in the first post.:good:
Forgot to mention set your phones time/date to manual and set the date to before March of 2018 I think it is before installing and running Flashfire for it to work. That's also mentioned somewhere here.
