Hi,
I got the Asus N56 router and would like to extend the wireless range of my Note 3 by having it connected via USB.
I am using the app WiFi Tether Router to generally tether, but it seems I need to enable USB Tethering in system options to have it work with the router. However, this is the official option from T-Mobile so if I enable it, it will use my tether/hotspot limit for the month.
Is there any way I can hide that for USB tethering? Or has the WiFi Tether router any option I miss for that?
Also, I do not need to set the router into AP mode for that, right?
Thanks

So I was trying to connect a laptop that did not have wireless n to my evo, and well it could not see the wireless network created by the "Wireless Tether" app.
Any way to make it so older laptops and desktops with wireless cards can connect?
Do other devices see the wireless network?
I have a laptop with wireless N that sees the Evo's Wireless network and it can connect and run, but my other laptop when the first laptop is not connected can not even see the Evo network.
Did you modify your EVO's drivers to enable Wireless N? Because, by default, it only does B/G.
I ask because I have doubts that the problem is linked to the 802.11n standard. It's more likely just something weird with that specific laptop.
Good, good point, you're right I have my wires crossed in my mind. I didnt enable N, so I suppose its something odd with my laptop. Maybe its not getup to connect or find the type of network the Evo is creating.
Thank you.
If I recall correctly Wireless Tether creates an ad-hoc network, not an infrastructure network like a normal wireless AP would create. Perhaps you need to change some kind of setting to show ad-hoc networks?
Exactly what I was thinking. Thanks again Aragorn182.

First check the password of wifi teth..
Any also check that your laptops firewall or antivitus settings.....
.
?
.
check wifi config
go to settings>wireless and network settings > tethering and portable hotspot> then enable wifi hotspot
and in portable wifi hotspot settings press configure portable wifi hotspot then change password to what ever you want the put the same pass in your laptop and it should work
if it doesn't just go to settings>wireless and network settings > tethering and portable hotspot>then enable USB tethering and connect your phone to laptop via usb and it should work
if it doesn't just ask someone else
I can do it on my one m7
Go to Settings > More under Wireless and Networks >Tethering & Portable Hotspot. From there, you can enable the WiFi hotspot if your computer supports WiFi, or plug it in with the USB cable and turn on USB tethering if it's a desktop. It should just work. You can get the wifi settings under Set up Wifi Hotspot. You have to have a tethering plan to use this. There are a few options on the market that can get around that restriction.
Is it possible to USB tether a phone to a portable WiFi router and share the phone data through WiFi?
Searched and found nothing.
I don't think so
Hello,
there is an app that share internet via usb to phone, try to activate access point but i'm not sure that it will work, because the internet shared by usb will not be detected by system.
I've seen articles/posts about reverse tethering (getting internet from PC to phone) and obviously regular Bluetooth and Wi-Fi tethering...
Say my home ISP service is down for some reason and I want to use some of my mobile data in the house temporarily.
Is there a way to get tethering setup so internet from mobile phone LTE gets sent out the USB, through a micro-USB OTG adapter, to a USB-to-Ethernet adapter, and then run an Ethernet cable from the adapter to my WAN port on my wireless router? Then all my wired and wireless devices can get internet access through the router so it handles DHCP and all that and the phone just tethers to the WEB interface of the router.
I know I can do the reverse of this, hard-wire Ethernet into my phone if for some reason I didn't have Wi-Fi or cellular connections. How about the opposite?
My phone is unlocked, rooted, and I'm pretty decent at editing config files if necessary!
More research shows maybe I'm better off using usb tethering to a usb port on the router and running dd-wrt. Or setting up router add a client bridge and using Wi-Fi tether instead of cable connection.
