I need help installing a rom on my I337 mk2. I got as far as getting the device rooted and the safestrap kernel installed. It says these are the steps to installing a new rom:
"For MK2 Base Users (never took NB1 OTA)
Files you will need before starting:
ON EXTSDCARD...
-- Safestrap-JFLTE-3.72-kk-B01.apk from here
-- ROM Install Zip (check ROM notes... may need to replace updater-script)
-- MK2-Deadly-Venom-Kitkat-Magic-Tool.rar from Kitkat Magic Tool Version 2 -- MLD/MK2-safestrap kit
-- mldmodules.zip extracted from MLD/MK2-safestrap kit
-- UPDATE-SuperSU.apk-v1.93.zip from here
ON COMPUTER...
-- Odin 3.09 and files from MLD Odin Files folder from MLD/MK2-safestrap kit"
Source here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=52030326
There's a provided list of safestrap approved roms and shoshock is one of them (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2468860).
I'll follow the instructions exactly (install rom, install MDLmodules, and install updated the superSU.zip. But after I reboot, I get a glitched out screen, filled of very vibrant pink and blue neon artifacts. I think I have the odin files they are referencing to at the end but everytime you install something through odin it reboots so I can't install all of them before it freezes. I've also tried installing just the rom itself with nothing else and same thing happens. Does shoshock just not run on safestrap 3.72?

Did you do the Odin files? And are you sure you used the Safestrap version?
Sent from my SGH-I337 running GPE
Yup I've done all of that. The one thing that I might be on the fence about is the odin files which is the very last step. In the folder of the stuff they want me to install, theres a MLD and MK2. And in those theres ap, bl, and cp versions of md5 files. Which of these am I supposed to install? I tried the MK2 ones last time I think and they didn't work.

I;ve been having some issues with my phone and I relized that I was on a leaked version of 4.3. Could someone let me know if this is the most current stock version of android for the sprint s4
SPH-L720_MF9_Stock_Factory_Restore(compressed archive).exe
http://www.rwilco12.com/downloads.p...PH-L720)/Stock ROMs/MF9/Full Restore/Unrooted
If so can I just use odin and flash this back onto the phone and ill be current or shall i say sprint current?
MK2 is the latest.
You could grab the MK2 .tar from here (the tar.md5 is in the zip, just extract the .tar.md5 and put that one file in the PDA slot of Odin) and flash it via Odin.
It'll reset everything (all partitions and modem etc.)
Then root via CF-Autoroot (it's in the dev section), add recovery using GooManager and then do what ever you want.
I followed the steps in INDEX topic to flash a 4.4.2 GoldenEye rom to my 4.3 i337 mk2 . After GE installed it asked for reboot and I accepted it, and it got stuck in samsung screen. so i rebooted into recovery, cleared cache and wiped data which prolly even screwed me deeper!
Now I am trying to flash a stock rom through Odin(EDIT: OMG YES IT WORKED.)
Now im going back to below:
Last time at step 6 it asked to reboot after i installed GE and i did. Is it why i failed?
Files you will need before starting:
ON EXTSDCARD...
-- Safestrap-JFLTE-3.72-kk-B01.apk from here
-- ROM Install Zip
-- MK2-Deadly-Venom-Kitkat-Magic-Tool.rar from Version 2 -- MLD/MK2-safestrap kit in the OP

ON COMPUTER...

Then do below
3. Copy (ROM zip, mldmodules.zip, and UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip) to extSdCard
4. Reboot into Safestrap Recovery
5. Wipe... Advanced Wipe... everything except extSdCard
6. Install... 4.4.2 ROM
7. Install... mldmodules.zip (to fix wifi)
8. Install... UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.94.zip (to keep root)
9. Home... Reboot... Download (to reboot into download mode)
10. On PC, open Odin and flash files from MLD Odin Files folder.... BL AP CP
11. Phone will reboot automatically
12. Configure APN Settings (if necessary)

While on MK2 and installing KitKat ROM, it is a MUST that you need to put the phone in download mode and flash the MLD ap/BL/cp files before the phone can reboot after the ROM is flashed.

you are talking about step 9 correct?
So I go directly into DL mode after install...Thats why i failed perhaps.. I also put it on stock rom, that also could be it.
thank you.
I recently got an AT&T Galaxy S 4 I337 from a friend and I'm trying to root it. I've seen a few blog and forum posts and it seems like there are multiple versions of the galaxy s 4 floating around like a Canadian version and stuff. How do I know which version I have and whats the easiest way to do it?
My searching led me here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2314494
I tried the [ROOT[RECOVERY] Loki + TWRP + Motochopper CASUAL way of rooting and it didn't work. The java script runs and everything but my phone's rom is blocking it for security reasons (gives a notification in tray). I've looked around in the settings to disable it but I couldnt find anything, it only wants you to update it. Debugging has been enabled too.
Coming from the US, I don't think it would be a Canadian model. And the I337 & I337M Users post claims that their way won't work on the AT&T I337 MF3 version or something which is why I'm skeptical to even try it.
So where do I go from here? What have I been doing wrong? I've been looking for an pre-rooted odin version which usually exist (how I rooted my S2 i7700) but i can't find any.

MK2. Which I just figured out is the bootlocked version of the phone unless you use safestrap. The main problem is I can't install a custom recovery and flash my rom without root access... and all the methods of getting it rooted aren't working.
Saferoot works on MK2 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2565758
I would try saferoot, kingo root (These two should work on mk2) towel root should work as well.
I337 stock NC1, rooted, unlocked

Just load them all up at once. It will let you put them in each slot and flash all.

Rooting Tools For LollipopEdit: I reuploaded the Rooting_Tools_For_S5_Lollipop.zip as the md5 was not right if your md5 is not b3dc378a34c0551efe4925912bfa1a9c please redownload and delete the .1Stock_Firmware_Zip from your internal and external sd card and reflash zip
Here is every thing you need to use safestrap without odin. This zip will install the files need if you have to return to KitKat NCG to obtain root. It will also install the firmwares that can be flashed in safestrap so you will not need to use odin. This zip will also install Lollipop SafeStrap Recovery which will allow you to use safestrap without having to use odin to flash kernels and firmwares. I recommend using safestrap to flash for the simple fact if something goes wrong you can still have a chance of booting back to safestrap to reflash something as where using Flashfire if something fails there is a good chance you will have to odin back and start all over. For you who prefer Flashfire I still recommend installing safestrap just as a backup just incase flashfire fails. This zip will also install the Flashfire app

Instructions for rooting Verizon S5 on Kitkat Or Lollipop Roms Or If your Already Rooted On A KitKat Rom (If you took the OE1 OTA Update there is currently no root method available)
If already running a rooted kitkat rom with safestrap proceed to step 4
1. Download Odin_3.10.6.zip and install on computer
2. Download NCG_Rescue_Tar_And_NCG_For_Root.tar.zip and extract the zip into the odin folder
3. Download lates USB drivers for computer Found HERE and install to computer
4. Download these 3 zips and extract them and copy the folders containing the zips to your sdcard. They are not flashable because you but the zips inside the folders are flashable and are needed in safestrap later on. If your already rooted skip to step 19 after you extract these zips to your sdcard
Stock_Firmware_Zip.zip
Stock_Kernel_Zip.zip
RootS5.zip
5. Copy anything you don't want to get deleted to your external sd card as this process is going to wipe internal storage
6. Reboot Phone to Download mode by holding the power button+volume down button+home button all at the same time.
7. Open Odin on your computer
8. Plug Phone into computer.
9 Press Volume up button on Phone (if you havent already done so) and let odin find your phone. The ID:COM box will turn blue when its ready
View attachment 3411569
10. Click the AP Box in odin and locate the NCG_Rescue_Tar_And_NCG_For_Root.tar.md5 file (which you should have extracted in the odin folder) click on the file and let odin load it. It may take several minutes to load
View attachment 3411570
11. Once it has passed MD5 check the AP box will populate the file
View attachment 3411571
12. Click Start and wait for it to finish will take around 5 to 10 minutes to flash
13. When phone is finally booted up just skip through the setup wizard there is no need to add any accounts as the files you will need you already added to your phone sd card
14. Use the file manager and open the RootS5 folder on your Sd card and install
tr_v3.apk
Superuser.apk
BusyBox.apk
Safestrap-G900V-3.75-KitKat.apk
15. Once all are installed open Towel Root and click Make it rain box then open SuperUser and when it ask to update binary click update normally, then it will ask to disable knox click yes. This may hang if so reboot then open SuperUser again it will again ask to disable knox click yes and then it successfully disable knox.
16. Open BusyBox and grant SuperUser root request. Then click install
17. Open safestrap grant super user root request then install safestrap. Once installed click reboot to recovery inside the safestrap app. If it fails to reboot to recovery install safestrap again and then click the reboot to recovery button it should work this time
18. Now make sure you have the Stock_Firmware_Zip folder and the Stock_Kernel_Zip folder on your sd card both folders should contain 3 flashable zips files
19. Copy Rom to sd card
20. Reboot to safestrap flash rom once rom is flashed navigated to the Stock_Firmware_Zip folder and flash the firmware that matches your rom that you flashed and click reboot
Instruction to Use SafeStrap Without odin If Already on rooted lollipop rom
1. Flash Rooting_Tools_For_S5_Lollipop.zip
2. Open Lollipop SafeStrap Recovery
3. Click Install SafeStrap. It will open Safestrap App wait for the SuperUser Request and grant permission(This may take a few seconds be patient) once you grant permission you may have to go back and reopen the app. Then install SafeStrap. wait for safestrap to install then click install safestrap again(Sometimes on BOD5 firmware it takes 2 times to stick this is why I say do it twice)
4. Open Lollipop SafeStrap Recovery
5. Click on Recovery Reboot
6. Click The Flash Button Grant SuperSu Root Access
7. Click the Reboot To SafeStrap Box
8. Phone will Reboot to SafeStrap. (If for some chance it doesnt boot to safestrap you will need to use odin and manually flash one of the lollipop kernels below. Then once rom is rebooted install safestrap again and problem should be fixed)
9. To return to rom from Safestrap you will need to flash the the stock kernel matching your rom or if your flashing Firmware then just flash that zip there is no need to flash kernel if you flashed a firmware zip. The Firmwares only need to be flashed if the rom you flashed is a different firmware otherwise just flash the kernel. The Firmwares will be located on internal and external SD cards in a file called 1Stock_Firmware_Zip folder and the Kernels will be in 1Stock_Kernel_Zip folder They should be at the top of the list of folders
10. If a problem happens when flashing a rom and you bootloop you will then need to use odin to flash the NI2 Kernel then you can get back to Safestrap
Odin Flashable Tars if you need them
NCG_Rescue_Tar_And_NCG_For_Root.tar.zip
NI2_stock_kernel.tar.md5
VZW_BOC4_RETAIL_FIRMWARE_ONLY.tar.md5
VZW_BOC4_RETAIL_KERNEL_ONLY.tar.md5
VZW_BOD5_RETAIL_FIRMWARE_ONLY.tar.md5
VZW_BOD5_RETAIL_KERNEL_ONLY.tar.md5
VZW_BOE1_RETAIL_KERNEL_ONLY.tar.md5
Thanks

Did you unzip and load the md5 tar in odin? Are you on BOE1 firmware if so you can not flash older firmwares.
Yes, I just did this two or three days ago from stock oc4 in order to install AllianceROM. Follow the instruction in the first spoiler and it works like a breeze. All you need is an internet connection for towelroot.
Edit: I was trying to reply to a post in discussion but it won't quote the post, and I have too few posts to reply there
long time lurker, first time poster. All boils down, nothing works, especially with locked bootloader.
I stupidly took OG5 OTA update, now I lost my root and that also locked my unlocked bootloader! I had tried everything that I could find on this form and google, NOTHING. I even ran Linux on VM and created custom ROM to work with OG5, nada. It didn't work.
I ODIN'd my phone back to the OG5 OTA update.
Until someone finds the way, I am stuck with extremely bloated stock which I hate so much.
@jrkruse, I'm a little unclear on something here. Maybe I'm just dense, just ask my wife.?
I'm currently on rooted stock NK2, with SafeStrap, and if I understand correctly I need to flash the OG5 room, and the OG5 kernel. Since I'm already rooted, I don't need to run the RootTools zip, correct? Also, what about the bootloader? Did I miss something somewhere?

Flash OG5 rom then OG5 firmware zip no need to flash kernel if flashing firmware zip
Got it. Thank you! ?
I am currently running Optimal ROM with OD5 bootloader. Just got back into the rooted world last week after a warranty replacement stroke of luck. To be able to access SS to flash a different ROM, do I just flash the NCG kernel I have and boot?
Edit: Been out of the loop for a while and don't want to bork this thing
Anybody?
You can use flashfire which is a mobile odin and is in the playstore [root]Flashfire or you can safestrap. http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/guide-safestrap-access-odin-t3126686. Install busybox and and the safestrap bo3 in the link I provided. Make sure you install ss after busybox. The NI2 kernal flasher when used will install a kitkat kernel and bring you into ss.
Before all this download this zip and extract it.https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347777436 What you are looking to keep are the firmware and kernel zips. YOU MUST FLASH A KERNEL OR FIRMWARE AS THE LAST THING BEFORE EXITING SS. Otherwise you will get a blank screen.
Solution if you forget - battery pull - restart phone - ss symbol will appear - hit it and reenter ss.
Place everything I've told you to download on your ext sd. When you wipe - do not wipe ext sd.
example - If you're going from od5 to og5 you will ant to flash the og5 kernel as the last thing before leaving ss- just follow the rom's installation instructions to the letter
SS is already installed. I am running Optimal w/OD5 bootloader. I was wondering if just flashing NCG kernel would boot me back to SS screen. I'm old school and have been using Odin haven't tried FF and seem to see more posts of bricks with peeps using FF.
can flash kernel via odin

can flash kernel via odin if you are more comfortable with it... i would use the ni2 kernel that was mentioned in the earlier post
