How to identify fake and genuine nexus 4

Hell all XDA members!
Next week I'm going to purchase a nexus 4 (16GB) version. Play store hardware market not supporting my country. Therefore I have to go for a 3rd party seller.
I'm not a newbie to the Android world. I already have an Android phone.
I want to know, how do I identify fake and genuine Google Nexus 4 (16GB)? I suspect there may be fake chines Nexus 4.
Apart from that, are there any way to view hardware specifications by using dial pad?
Any help really appreciate.

You could do an IMEI check. Once you get the phone press *#06# and IMEI number will show. Then google IMEI checker (http://www.imei.info/) seems like a good one. That will tell you information about your phone. Also, once you get the phone just go to settings-about phone, theres some info there.

Looks like that IMEI test is a perfect one. But about phone can change.

Can i send apk files to Nexus 4? If i can, then i can perform a benchmark test.

Sri Lanka. Play store hardware market not support.
Few weeks back (after purchse SGS3) I again went to the same shops for purchase a phone for my brother. Then again N4 available their stock. So sad!

Another tipoff is the screen. I've seen knockoff phones before (Note II for example) and the screens aren't in the same league as originals. LG put a decent panel in the N4.

CPU-Z -
Know the specs.. Good clones will usually have the stuff people will look for on the surface.. Working wifi, cellular data, camera, speakers. They will usually skimp on things people wouldn't normally check ~ have lower res screens, less ram, missing sub features ( GPS, LED for camera, Gravity Sensors, sometimes even a microphone etc) and less RAM. Some also have really crummy touchscreens, have difficulty detecting touches around the edges ( try typing with the keyboard or using an app)
As a side, is the N4 a popular target to clone? It seems like it would be a low risk considering its price point vs the competitors.. Also it seems like the target audience for this phone would be more capable to spot a fake ( again vs the mainstream phones)..
Seems like I always see the grey markets flooded with Samsungs and Apple, can't say I have ever seen a Nexus phone or tab. At least in Shanghai / Hong Kong

--> I traded my HTC One for a Samsung Galaxy S4 GT-I9500 with someone through Craigslist. Unfortunately, I was so excited to get the phone I only used imei*info to verify the phone's authenticity and checkesnfree*com to see if the phone was blacklisted. (new user so can't post links)
Results from both sites were a "go" so I did the trade.
With T-mobile (or any carrier) I knew I wouldn't get 4G or LTE speeds with this model phone, which was fine. However, it was impossible for me to get off EDGE (pure H3LL after having LTE with the HTC).
Did the research I should have done before doing the trade and found out at least one easy way to ID a fake i9500: Check the phone's serial number. It shouldn't be "123456789ABCDEF" - obvious enough, if you know where to look. If it is you absolutely have a fake.
They may get smarter and this not work to check the i9500's, but for now it's good enough.
POINT: Don't be an idiot like me and fail to do your research first . Checking a couple websites isn't enough.

Just download "os monitor" from any market and it will tell you everything from the number of cores to chip set, CPU e.t.c that should do the trick along with the imei number.

Hi, a friend received from his cousin, as gift a "galaxy s4" but after he asked me to take a look at it, I said him that phone is a fake one.
Now I want to ask you what can I do for him, because he doesn't want to sell it.
Can I flash the official firmware and ROM ? what about the rooting method ?
The phone is smaller than the real one, has the air gestures but they work only on the home and app screen(not in webpages, etc), is micro-sim also.

If its a knock off s4 you can't use ANY ROMs or mods that were designed for the s4. Its got different hardware so any s4 ROMs won't work and could brick it.
There likely aren't rooting methods available because there isn't a big developer following to create rooting methods.
The software it has now is the software the device will have forever.

Wow antutu scores not bad for a replica if its a real score. I've seen some knock offs with modified antutu scores. But if that score is real, its actually not bad, Galaxy S3 range.

I don't have any reason to post a fake score ), this is the score showed on the screen. I can't ask him where he got it, but if anyone knows more details about this replica i would be glad to listen

He means the phone is forcing a fake score, not that you photo shopped the image and changed the numbers. A phone can manipulate benchmarking scores by over performing in the tested areas briefly, without giving any real world performance boosts.
Even TouchWiz does this.
Its one of many reasons why benchmark scores are utterly pointless and meaningless.
As for the device and what to do with it...again...you won't be able to modify it without figuring out how to root it and build custom roms for it yourself. There won't be any ready to go software for it. Use it as is and enjoy. Could make a great backup phone, or spare to use when you are going somewhere a more expensive phone might get broken. (I always keep my last phone handy for when I go to the amusement park or something)

Because its a fake. Its not a great phone. Things don't work right on fakes. There is no way around this. No matter how much you try to convince yourself this thing is as good as a real s4 its not. Accept it and see the phone for what it is...a decent wifi device for web browsing.
Also I suggest not using any banking apps or going to bank websites on it because god only knows what the software is recording and sending to someone.

I don't want to convince myself or anyone its a good device, only that my friend asked me to do something with it.Thank you for adivce.

Put it on CL as a fake/replica S4 and get rid of it.

[Q] How do I know if my friend's device is a fake?

Hi.
My friend recently got a brand new phone as a birthday present from her parents. It's supposed to be an S4, but there's something fishy about it.
I don't know where it was bought, either, but I suspect it might have been bought online somewhere.
As far as I can tell, the hardware looks exactly like it should (the correct dimensions, battery etc.) and it's definitely running TouchWiz, but it still seems kinda fishy because:
The serial number, as reported by the system, is 0123456789ABCDEF, which obviously isn't correct.
Some features, like NFC, cannot be enabled and when I go to its settings page, it just shows the message "Empty".
Google apps (like Gmail and Google account sync) are missing (I don't know if all are missing or just some)
I found at least one system app with a seemingly Chinese name, which I don't think should be there.
I don't have any other devices to compare it to, but what would you think of this? Does it seem like it's the real deal or just a very well-crafted fake?

Why not try 1 of the device identifying apps in the play store?

Try cpu z. Post screen shots.
Or show the device information from settings > about device.
It's probably fake just to hazard a guess! Hopefully not.

I don't have access to the phone since it's not mine, so I can't post any screenshots yet, but I looked at the device information screen and it did report as being a i9500, the only suspecious-looking thing was the weird serial number.
I've never heard of a fake device that is this identical to the real deal, and that's what makes me so unsure if it's real or not. Personally I'm leaning against real, but possibly with a version of TouchWiz that's not normal (at least not for my region).
I'll probably post some pictures and/or screenshots once I get ahold of the phone again.

do this download antutu from play store or apk from Google and install it run dir score and device info and you should pretty much give all of the info required, by the way 'm sure it's a Chinese make s4

Go to Settings, General Tab and Applications. See what the Device Memory on the bottom says. I doubt there is any way to fake a Samsung Moment for a Note 3
Actually I stand corrected. There are fakes out there. But clearly there are differences. Check your battery and compare it to the one in this video. Also notice this device does not have a Samsung logo on the front.

It seems that this fake does have some kind of menu, but it doesn't seem to be the same as the real one in every way. If you notice, the resolution in the JellyBean test menu is much lower (i.e. the Jelly Beans are much bigger, but on a full HD display, they should be small.)
Try a few more obscure codes. I bet they don't have all of them ported to the fakes.

The best way to check if the note 3 is fake or not is spen. Only original note devices have wacom digitizer. If your brother have an ori spen with him, test it on the phone.

The S-Pen is a Samsung only product and the Wacom digitizer in the Note is tied directly to it. There are some things that cannot be faked, and this is one of them. Testing the S-Pen with the presumed fake will tell you if it's real or not.

Original spen only works on original note screen.
'S' pen is a stylus that Samsung has created for Samsung Galaxy Note. It does not work on any other Samsung phone. So you cannot use it on touchscreen's which do not use Wacom's technology.

Yes.

Go to a store, find demo unit of Note 2/3/10.1 and try on your screen. If it works its a REAL Note 3. if it doesn't its a fake., or go to the app store and download an app called "Genuine Galaxy S4/Note 3". If you have xposed framework installed with xprivacy make sure you have all options unticked. You need to install xposed and xprivacy so if you haven't it's not on there.
Run the app and it will tell you.

Install an app like CPU-Z or Phone Info to identfy the phone. Most likely its a S5 copy, so a fake device.

CPU-Z or Phone info aren´t 100% but chinese download mode say its fake

The 900H is an International (Exynos processor) version S5. You didn't give us the baseband /firmware /build version from the Settings menu "about" screen, so we can't narrow it down more than that.
You can find the specs on the Samsung site, but I'm confident that the 900H would be HSPA+ aka "3.5G". Not 4G LTE. Presumably it has Chinese firmware installed on it. Download mode should be.. remove the battery and any USB cable for ten seconds to assure that the phone is off. Then press and hold in this order, so that you end up concurrently pressing three keys: volume down + home + power. Hold until you see the android robot on the recovery screen.
If you still can't access download mode and given the Chinese characters, you may have a better quality fake clone. There are apps e.g. Phone Info, Cpu-z to help identify fakes.

G900S isnt a clone but original s5 (korean make) with 32 gb internal and the message u see in download mode is in korean, u can flash cwm recovery n download mode will be in korean..

Actually those results are inconclusive. You may have a genuine but esoteric S5 model - a Chinese market 900S from Korean SK Telcom. Or it could be a premium fake like the updated clone by Goophone.
Run an extended benchmark suite to conclusively discern what the processor is and you'd know. Or easier and probably sufficient, what is the actual screen resolution?

And on the internet browser that came with phone it's 1280x720
The back cover doesn't have a rubber seal for water proof
It says 900s but the sticker under the battery says 900h

Switch off the phone.
then
vol down +power key+home key will take you to download mode.

If you have a fake S5 better get out of here Anything you flash from this forum will brick your phone.

thak you for your advise, but i dont understand that no one of developpers and experts know how ao access to download mode in a fake one !!!

Because the clones have very bad firmware and even worse hardware, they that make and sell it don`t give a damn and offer no support or warranty. Real devs will not even touch these devices as there is nothing to gain for none other then then for the people that keep buying these knock offs and have themselves to blame. Quality is seldom that cheap

So his S5 is a fake!?
My friend have the same info in his S5 G900S...(I attch 4 files but it like his pics in the first page)
In here and his device there isn't KNOX (warranty bit not found) & Bottloder unknown (it's not to realise it's a fake ?)
there is other S5 orignal from my other friend: (you can see the differences in here there is more info)

Yup, definately fake mate. Hope you paid a a price in accordence of the device or you`ve been scammed. Look at the kernel (fakes have a 3.4.5 kernel), Board. Just Google the Imei of the phone if you want to buy some guys phone, on a site like this one for instance http://www.imei.info/.

There are more than 6 flags from Phone Info alone! The cpu is a MT6582 which is a old MTK cpu, what more do you need to say its a fake
