Hello. I've been getting a lot of emails on how to do that and i thought i should make a thread here.
Now you got to have the original box in which there is the imei written. I don't take any credit for this guide as i didn't write it but i found it somewhere here but it doesn't exist anymore. I'm not responsible for any damage may happen to your phone. I did it several times after flashing official 2.3.5.
It has worked fine with my IDEOS X5 U8800.

This procedure did not work for me. I found it a couple of weeks ago in another thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1591997) and gave it a try (numerous times) without success. I was able to complete all steps up until actually writing the new IMEI. I attempted to write it a couple of dozen times without any success. It appears to work but the lMEI never actually changes.
I also found another procedure using a program called NVedit but it would give me an error stating the NV location was set to read only (I forget the actually wording). It seems that my phone has the location that contains my IMEI locked in some way that nothing can change it. So I gave up on that phone and am using a different one that I bought on eBay, brand new at a dirt cheap price ($27.00).

Yes, I am rooted.
I started out on 2.2 way back in the beginning. Then I flashed 2.3.5. That's when I lost my IMEI and replaced the phone.
But I wanted to keep experimenting at getting it working 100% even though I had a new working, rooted, and customized phone. Using 5IromToolBox I restored a backup from the new phone to the broken phone just to see if it would work. Then I flashed Stallion-51-ICS custom ROM. It is a GB based ROM with look and feel of ICS.
When I run the procedure in this thread, everything looks as though it has worked, but the IMEI never changes. So what did 5Irom do differently that it was able to restore the backup from a different phone but I cannot use DFS or NVEditor to write to the locations? The back I made from the new phone and restored to the old one is Consumer Cellular so I suspect they have locked something out that 5Irom is able to get around but other tools don't.
On another note, just for the heck of it I tried to upgrade to ICS from GB and it fails on the first update step. Go figure.
If I could find a full-flash procedure for the pro and 51 versions of this phone I suspect I could resolve all issues. Who knows?
UPDATE: I went through the whole process again and noted a point I forgot to mention. In DFS at the bottom of the screen EQF is yellow, not green. I don't recall exactly what that means but in reading through the DFS doc, it states that writing a new IMEI is not possible as long as EQF is yellow. When I enter my IMEI and click on the WRITE command the response is "MODECHANGE OfflineD OK"

it should be green! what i would do is to flash 2.2 then 2.3.5 and follow again the steps very carefully! maybe u ever flashed a partition and it's not the default one? i can't really help you :/ try this and if it doesn't work make a thread in the q&a section

Yeah, I knew that it should be green. The bottom line is I do not have the 2.2 image to flash. I would have done that a long time ago if I had it. All I have is the DiskImage backup that I made off of my new phone. When I flashed it onto the old phone it starts, displays the Consumer Cellular logo for about ten seconds then shuts off immediately. As far as starting a thread in Q & A, I did that weeks ago and got nowhere fast.
Any link I have found for the original 2.2 for -51 and pro is usually a broken link. or it takes me to download that stupid iLivid program that doesn't do squat to get the files I need. I did find a DiskImage file that somebody made and posted but it is almost 4 gig in size. You are supposed to use Pink Screen to load it but Pink Screen only gives me access to the image directory and it's only 256 meg.
Thank you for your time and suggestions.
I believe in the wiki section there are links to default 2.2 and 2.3.5. The ones I found a long time ago were from Blefish, although I'm not sure. Good luck!

Hi.
I try to download the "Drivers for Android 32 and 64 bit win 7 (not tested )", but its a dead link. I run win7 pro, and somehow the 32 bit driver doesn't work.
Would like to try the 64 bit driver. Could u reupload it, please?
I just did a repost cause i veen asked a lot of times I don't have the files and I don't thinks drivers are needed. You could just install huawei's suite for PC

Hi All,
Many thanks for this post.
Iv recently installed the Blefish CM11 rom for U8800 and its works fine. Only issue I have is IMEI=0. I can make and receive calls and even use the mobile internet.
My question is - Is there a way to edit the IMEI no on KK4.4.2 ROM through entering in the engineering mode?
or else, will have to start from the beginning (stock rom process as mentioned in the OP).
thanks for your help.

Hi,
I haven't found out the way to fix it yet.
Only way I got to fix is to redo the stock rom, root, save the imei and the reflash the custom rom.
The reason for the imei issue was changing the partitions
thnx anyways
this guide that you have post it has been made by me and at least you should have say that is ported from me. Even the links that you have are in my acount. Hi all, i've purchased an SM-G900F but there is a problem, it has rooted.
I've noticed those :
- I can see IMEI number (if i do #*06#) but my EFS folder is empty
- When turn on WiFi , the device will reboot automatically and appear " Factory Mode is On"
- i can make first call with sim , after i'm unable to call , but the 3G network works
- Whit ES File Explorer i've see that my efs folder is empty (But i can see my IMEI with secret code)
- In Device Info i see one time "Official Status" and another time "Personalized Status"
I'm tinking that old owner is a very st......d guy. Howewer these are all information :
Model : SM-G900F
Version : 4.4.2
BASEBAND : NE2
BUILD : NE2
What do you think? How i can solve the problems?
EDIT 1 : i've formatted from recovery , now it ask me to insert the samsung account of old owner...
- Use Phone INFO ★Samsung★ app to obtain more detailed information about your device, including Model, Baseband, Bootloader, CSC, IMEI, S/N, etc...
- May be the Reactivation lock has been enabled. You should ask the ex-owner for the account.

reactivation lock is on. you will need to contact old owner. There is also a way to "fix" that but not sure if it is appropriate for XDA.

The guy was not traceable now. He's vanished ....
You are kinda between a rock and a hard place if reactivation lock is enabled and you don't have the login to toggle that. In most cases that means that the phone is stolen and this is an explicit anti theft feature. You need that login from the original owner. Or if you have the original receipt, you might be able to convince a Samsung repair center to disable the reactivation lock for you.
In any event, as to your original question the most likely cause of the problem is a corrupt configuration file, namely a text file named "factorymode". You can try this repair from the command line or a root aware text editor.
Code:
echo -n ON > /efs/FactoryApp/factorymode
.

Great. But you neglected to tell us if you tried (or even noticed) the suggestion to check your factory mode configuration file. The contents should show "ON" (yes, "ON") and the permissions 0644. Your efs folder may appear empty to you when it really isn't. It depends on whether you have your file browser (or command line options) set to display hidden and system files or not.

y factory mode is on , because i can't acces my wifi, and it appear that factory mode is on. I've set to see hidden files , but now i haven't root on my device
Edit: terminal emulator say : no such file or directory
Edit 2 : Solved with terminal emulator and busy box Thanks to @leoaudio13 for his dump
These are the command for mount efs :
su
mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
mount -w -t ext4 /dev/block/mmcblk0p12
reboot
After then , with text editor i've disabled FactoryApp in efs folder tanks to all
.
For the benefit of anyone else reading this thread, do not repeat the steps in the post above until
you understand what they do. A typo in those steps could easily cause you endless grief.
Glad you go it working.
If those steps fixed your issue, then you mislead us with erroneous information earlier. You said that you had an empty efs folder earlier. But those steps would not have been necessary or effective if that was accurate. You must have had a missing efs partition. There is a considerable difference between an empty and nonexistent item and that datum would have led us to a solution.
On a normal phone, there would be an extant efs folder and it would be automatically mounted at boot. A missing folder strongly suggests that the wrong firmware or a flash error took place. Presumably by the previous owner.
Anyone using the make filesystem command mke2fs /dev/block/mmcblk0p12 should be very careful with typos as an incorrect address could cause major corruption that would be difficult to recover from.

could be a block imei by the operator? if it is POSSIBLE to solve? or it could be due however to the efs folder, or the firmware, modem?

As you can read i said, Ive got almost the same problem, i don't say we have the same problem. in a sense that previous owner account or the reactivation lock is present. sorry if i made a statement that bothers you, just looking for a solution.

Hello,
First thing first check your internet connection. For some users it didn't work on wifi and only on data etc.
If it doesn't help -> in Settings clear cache for this app.
Regards
//update
Still you can download themes from the xda and install them by putting @ HWthemes folder.

it was easy to download themes from this app instead of Downloading and putting the theme in themes folder.
i hope some this issue can be fixed....

Can you check your Firmware region?
Go to Dialer and enter *#*#2846579 #*#* and then go to menu point 3. (Network Information Query) and then to 4. (Vendor Country Info)
For some reason your Firmware might not offer themes in your Region
If thats alright you probably have to download themes manually.

Vendor: hw
Country: meafnaf
Themes were working fine and i was able to download the themes from Themes App.
i think i tried updating it once on Android 6.0 by downloading the update.app file from XDA forum and it gave error while installing it. then i restarted it. After that it started to give this issue.
I just tried Factory Reset but still the Vendor information stays as is. Is there any way to fully reset my phone?

I choose GT-I9300, COM port only COM5 available, I press Read Info button, and there is "Reading info, please wait..." and nothing happens
When I try to start Loader Octoplus Samsung.exe - nothing happens.
According to Windows Defender, unins000.exe has Virus/Win32/Sality.AT
After Flashing the EFS file you provided, I've lost my IMEI as well.
Of course the repair network option completed successfully. But it didn't fix the no network problem. It just created one more problem and my IMEI is now generic.
Please turn off your virus gurd first

Should I use this fix only on Android 4.1 and 4.3?
Do not try this on Archidroid 3.1.5 (Android 5.1.1)??

Unfortunately I didn't backup EFS partition. How would I write IMEI with octaplus tool? Anyways, My phone chipset is exynos, not Qualcom.
I am on stock marshmallow, rooted.
My phone is unlocking with Swipe right now and i would like to set up a pattern/password, but I can't access "Screen lock type" because it requires me to enter a password. WHAT PASSWORD? It says "enter current password"......i have no clue...
please help me out with this problem...
PS:
I have no encription
I have no SD card
I have no Device Administrators on
"Clear credentials(Remove all certificates)" option is GREYED OUT
I have no VPN accounts
Thanks!
simple. just download some 3rd party lockscreen apps if you dont want to factory reset your phone just to set up a password
note: i still suggest not to use 3rd party lockscreen apps since most of them are bloat. but if you dont want to reset your phone, this is the only choice
Well hell yeah..i dont wanna install a 3rd party app for lockscreen
So you're telling me that the only reasonable solution is to flash stock again?
Damn, i hate flashing stock because it only works and wont give me a bootloop if i follow these steps: 1. Reflash 5.1.1 first // 2. Flash 6.0.1 ....... flashing 6.0.1 1st will give me bootloop
Ok, so i would suggest you to go in twrp mode(if you have one), then mount the system/go to twrp's file manager/ data/system find :
password.key
pattern.key
locksettings.db
locksettings.db-shm
locksettings.db-wal
and delete them, reboot, set up the lockscreen. Not sure if it will work for you , though it worked for me.
Ok. Thanks
So i tried your method. I only found the "locksettings" files. I deleted the files.
Now i can enter the menu to select my lockscreen method, BUT it seems none of the options are effective. I set a pattern/password/pin but my lockscreen is still on swipe....
Any idea?
PS: maybe i might have deleted some necessary files/apks when i debloated my phone. my phone is very light now . I only have a few necessary apps

I missed a word, that's why you didn't find the other files, the right name should be 'gesture.password.key' and 'gesture.pattern.key' , try deleting these 2 followed by the other 3 you deleted earlier.
Since this method didn't work you either deleted a necessary file manually, or the script you used for debloating deleted that file.
No other idea though, but you might trying flashing the system.img file using odin( if the trick above doesn't do the job, or if you are too lazy to flash the whole firmware) ?
