Hi all,
I just bought a new i337 and it came with the NB1 bootloader, NB1 stock, and I followed all the steps to downgrade, etc and have SafeStrap 4.72 running it with a rooted NB1 stock firmware. However, there are some things I like about 4.3, and I would like to run SHOSTOCK (JellyBean version), but I know that I flashed a NB1 Kernel through ODIN as part of running the rooted NB1 stock. Do I have to start over and downgrade it back to MK2? Or is it as simple as just installing the SHOSTOCK for Safestrap in SafeStrap 4.72 even though in the SHOSTOCK thread they don't mention anything about 4.72, just 4.71. I guess I'm just concerned about the kernels not matching with the locked bootloader and all.
Thanks in advance for any help!

Safestrap v3.72 will mount on both 4.4 and 4.3 kernels. No need to switch back to v3.71.

Thanks for the quick response and answer.
Just a quick clarification, I cannot use Safestrap 3.71 anyway due to my phone having the NB1 bootloader, right? I thought v 3.71 was only for those on MK2 or below.
Thanks again for all your awesome work on finding workarounds for rooting NB1 phones and above!

No the SS version has more to do with your kernel not the BL. You can theoretically flash a 4.3 ROM using SS 3.71 on your 4.4 BL. There are additional requirements like modules, etc that I won't get into.
Well, I was trying to installing SHOStock 3.0- safestrap version today, and I kept getting the "cannot mount /system" in SafeStrap while installing. After rebooting a couple of times, I think I stupidly decided to do an advanced wipe of /system (among others). Do I have to go all the way back to stock NB1 (Original NB1), and then start the whole process to MK2->Root -> Safestrap all over again?
Thanks for any help!

Use the downgrade to MK2 file from this thread then root and install safestrap: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2692825

Thanks for all the quick replies. Just to recap, ODIN back to Stock NB1 (no need to uninstall the remnants of SafeStrap I have now?), Downgrade to MK2, Root, Safestrap.
Also, I'm not sure what I did wrong when I went from rooted Stock NB1 to try to flash SHOStock 3.0 (which was 4.3). I honestly wasn't paying attention to the messages, so maybe I had a unable to mount /system error then, but then I went to reboot it, just was blank. That's when I decided to be stupid and go to recovery to advanced wipe including /system. I guess now if I want to run SHOStock 3.0, or whatever ROM, I can just install it once I have Safestrap rather than installing the Rooted ROM and kernel, right?
Thanks again!

No need to odin back to stock NB1, the downgrade file will get you back to a semi-functioning(no-wifi) MK2 at which point you can root and install safestrap. From there go to the SHoStock thread for instructions on how to properly install that particular ROM.

Thanks again for the quick reply.
Just to clarify, I guess I'm really confused about what kernel I would have if I flash the downgrade file? Would it overwrite the NB1 kernel I flashed after I flashed the rooted stock NB1 in Safestrap? I noticed that in going to rooted stock NB1 (or NC1), you have to ODIN flash the kernel.
Thanks again.

Yes the downgrade will revert you back to mk2 kernel in order for you to be able to root.
Hi Guys I'm trying to install a custom Rom on my phone but have failed 4 times now and have to reach out to the forum for help. I'm on 4.4.2 ota and have rooted w/ towel root sucessfully, installed safestrap 3.72 and 3.75, busybox and super su. I advance wipe and do a clean install. Everytime it says it was successful but when I reboot the screen goes black and does noting. The phone remains on but nobodys home. I've tried the Jasmine rom and the alliance rom with the same results. I used odin to go back to stock but I want a custom rom. Can anybody help? I've attached a screenshot of my about phone. Also can anybody recommend a Rom that helps with the signal/gps issues that started after KK?
Thanks in Advance!

You need to flash the NC2 kernel via odin. File and instructions can be found here. When following the steps in the OP you can substitute the rom you want for the one you can download from the post.
Also incase you didn't see it in the Safestrap OP you will only be able to use the stock rom slot, if trying to flash on a created slot it won't boot properly or at all (rom slots are only supported on NC2 firmware and previous, the ota is NC4).
Hope this helps.
That's great thank you very much for your help!
Do I just flash the kernal over my stock rom?

To be safe you might want to flash the rooted stock rom provided in the post I linked earlier. That rom is the NC4 stock with pre-root and a couple other tweaks Basically the same as OTA but better. Just follow the steps in the OP and you'll be good to go (if you haven't already).
thank you
My pleasure.
Ok I'm sorry I'm still confused. The OP doesn't say to flash with Odin anywhere it says flash with Safe strap. Do I flash the firmware with Odin first then Rom?

Anything firmware, kernel or modem related must be flashed in Odin as long as we have a locked bootloader. Just follow the steps as instructed and you'll be fine.

Not possible ? :/ :crying:
Yes you can install that rom, you will need to use the safestrap method. There is a link in the op of the GE thread, as long as you follow that exactly, you should be in good shape.

Yes, there is a flashable kernel in the nc1 flasher op. When you are selecting the files to flash in safestrap, select the kernel as the final zip. After the rom flashes, uncheck the reboot box and safestrap will flash the remaining zips. When all zips are flashed select reboot system, and wait. The first boot can take up to twenty minutes.
When it starts to boot the safestrap screen will pop up a couple of times. This is"normal", don't touch it or it won't progress. This happens with each reboot unless safestrap is removed.

Just as the title asks, is there any custom recovery available for Verizon S5 running latest rooted, stock ROM? I have been unable to find a straight answer. I know NCG build works with Safestrap, but is there any custom recovery out there for BOC4 build? If not, how have people been installing mods and other zips that require flashing?

No custom recovery yet. Unless you want to venture into this post.

Flashfire will flash zips and firmware. And do backups. You can get it at the top of this post.

You can use flashfire, which is a very easy ways to install ROMs, or, when you want to install a ROM, just flash a Kitkat kernel in Odin and safestrap will work if you have it installed.

If you had safestrap installed you flash a KitKat kernel right over your OC4 to get safestrap to boot up. Before your phone boots all the way up, go into recovery, and flash your ROM. Boot into download mode via safestrap, Odin the corresponding firmware.
I have used flashfire quite a bit to go up and down. The only problem I had is when I was on NGC. Flashfire wouldn't work for me. I'm no expert but this is how I've done it with flashfire.
1. Hit the plus, select firmware, only check boot and recovery.
2. Hit plus, select zip-ota and your ROM ( don't check auto mount)
3. Hit plus, select firmware again, check boot, recovery, modem, firmware. Flashfire will ask if you want them in separate zips, say yes.
4. Hit plus and wipe. Wipe all but SD card).
Arrange like this
1. Wipe
2. Firmware- boot+recovery
3. ROM
4. Firmware- modem+firmware
5. Firmware-boot+recovery
6. EverRoot - inject SuperSU
7. Reboot
I've gone to OA8, OC4, NI2, and NK2 with no problems. I'm getting ready to test NE9 but like I said I had trouble coming from NGC. Try at your own risk.
Edit: Just went from NI2 to NE9 Alliance ROM with no problems
Hi,
Nowhere on the internet can I find a download for this file: hltevzw_root_deodex_nc4.zip Does anyone have a copy they can give me?
I'm on Android 4.4.2 rooted with the NC2 kernel and Build number N900VVRUCNC2. I have safestrap installed and a custom recovery through safestrap.
I'd like to be able to install a custom rom such as Hyperdrive which says I need to be on the latest KK build, which I think is NC4, but I want to keep the NC2 kernel to maintain rootability.
Question: do I need to do anything, or can I just flash Alliance or Hyperdrive from NC2?
If I need the unified NC4 firmware with NC2 kernel, where can I find it to download? Or can I simply do this:
Boot into recovery using Safestrap
Flash N900VVRUCNC4
Boot into download mode
Use ODIN to flash the nc2kernel.tar.md5
Reboot
Will this work? I don't want to lose my ability to root.
After that, I assume I just reinstall the appropriate Safestrap, and then install recovery, and then I can flash Hyperdrive or Alliance?
Would really appreciate any help you guys can give me, I've googled everywhere....without finding what I am looking for.
