My samsung galaxy s4 (GT-I9500) does not go past the samsong logo with the i9500 and the samsong name.
I put a new simcard in my phone, and after my phone started it asked me to update the phone to a new release. I obviusly clicked OK.
my phone started updating, just like it normally updates, but this time the screen goes black in the middle of the update. I turn on my phone, and it starts installing, then suddenly it turns off again.
when i turn it on it loads the first boot logo, then i get a black screen like the phone was never on.
i tried everything:
- battery of and on
- wipe data/factory reset (from - volume up, home button, and power button)
- wipe cache partition
- and apply update from cache has an empty recovery folder.
- i tried to boot in safe mode.
and nothing worked
I want to reinstall jellybean(or any os that works) on the phone, but since i can go to settings and allow usb debbuging, my computer does not recognize it even when it is on doenloading mode (volume down, home, and power button) from my ubuntu turmenal.
I am willing to root my phone or anything to get it working without paying money.
How do i fix this? please help!

You might want to try the S4 forums as this is for Android Wear(watches).

Hello friends. I have a problem with my Samsung i9500 Galaxy S4. The thing is I can not use the button of power on or turn to lock the screen because the phone is turned off or rebooted and the Samsung logo appears, then it looks like is about to initialize but then reappears Samsung logo. The only way I can turn on the phone is by pressing the buttons of recovery mode and after about 3 attempts, the phone starts normally. I have the stock Rom 4.3 Jelly Bean. On the other hand this started since I took out the SD memory. I have reinstalled the ROM again and continued doing the same. No it may be. I think it is a problem in the boot but I can not solve it. I can not lock the screen with the power button because the phone turns off. I hope you can help me. regards

Upgrade to Kitkat! Or you can flash stock 4.3 OR a factory data reset may help. Try n reply.
guys yesterday i started to flash the smartphone because i was fed up with the stock rom, after a bit of advice i opted for the clougy g3! starting by rootting the phone and install a recovery (which, however, could start only by phone on) I installed this rom which at first look is great for customization and style and also for speed.
today after making a backup of data of the phone whit titan backup fails to come into the gallery and do not make me choose the settings how to change the soft keys of the home, in both cases, says it has stopped working or something like that so I decided to do a soft reset by wipe date cache and devil in recovery and reboot the phone that it stops on the lg logo and does not go forward! Now I no longer get into recovery because I cant do that by turned off phone and then I'm stuck at the lg logo and I do not know what to do!
looking on the internet I read that to get into recovery I have to hold the power button + down button longer until you will see lg logo and then release them and push again, but doing so takes me to a wild white screen "hard factory reset" plz help fast
The hard reset screen is correct, it won't actually reset the phone but it will send you into recovery. Get to that screen and press the power button a few times to go through it and it should take you into TWRP

First thank you for viewing my question and issue.
I'm new in here hoping to find a solution to my problem. I bought a used S4 I9500 last year it was lagging acting up slow did a search and read online that I might need to install better version via Odin (I'm totally new to the android world so I think I did a mistake here somewhere). So I did install I9505 version which I thought will work fine. (sorry for not doing enough researches coming from IOS which is less complicated). The phone apparently did a restart and got stuck on the Samsung logo which kept glowing for few minutes.
It was mid night by the time I was cracking this stuff out, so thought to myself to keep it plugged and go n rest for few hours. I woke up and the Phone was still stuck on the Samsung logo which was glowing not like paused or something. The phone was hot so i thought I should stop the whole operation before something worst happen. Did some searches and found that people are fixing this issue by going to recovery mode or download mode etc.
The thing is Vol+ and home button + power or Vol+ and power trick doesn't show the menu anymore. When i click any of these it just does a random reboot showing Galaxy I9500 logo and then back to the glowing samsung logo. notice that I was able to go to download mode and recovery mode prior to this issue but now I just can't for some reasons.
Would appreciate any help. Thank you
Find someone that can use Jtag maybe they can fix it.
Hard lesson for you. Never flash a firmware for another device onto your phone.
If they can't fix it, then you can buy a new phone. You bricked it.
Dealing with a Samsung Galaxy S4 that will not get past the Samsung "Custom" bootscreen.
The ROM was stock Android KitKat. It was rooted, and Safestrap recovery was installed. The Xposed Framework was also installed. The device was working fine.
Then the power button broke, so installed Power Button to Volume Button and Shutdown & Reboot.
Then used Shutdown & Reboot to reboot. The phone rebooted to the Samsung "Custom" bootscreen, but did not progress beyond that.
Have not been able to get past the Samsung "Custom" (black) bootscreen since then. :crying:
Here's what's been done:
Tried to enter Safe Mode
Pulled the SIM card out
Pulled the battery out
Put the battery back in
Pressed (and held) the volume-down button while putting the battery in
Nothing has helped or been successful.
There was no microSD card in the device, so all the data is on it's internal storage.
At the least, I would like to get all the data off.
At best, I'd like to get the phone working again.
TIA. :highfive:
Is this an AT&T sgh-i337 phone?
Stuck at the boot logo normally means you have soft bricked it. The only way to recover is to find the correct factory firmware for you device and flash it via Odin. Make sure it the correct firmware! Flashing the wrong one is a problem.

When it goes to the samsung screen, quickly hold either the top or bottom volume button and the home button until the screens goes into a blue screen that says recovery mode, and then flash stock firmware. If you have twrp installed, try wipe dalvik, cache and do a dirty wipe of the current rom you have. hmu if you need anymore help.
I have the same problem but it did not fix.
Also when i tried to charge it, the charge icon appeared, dissapeared and shut down with the same timing that logo Samsung appear and dissapear when i try to turn on. But after different tries the charge icon dissapeared replacing it with the Samsung logo, keeping the problem.
