[Q] Dashcam apps not working with Android 4.4.2 - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Has anyone managed to get either Daily Roads Voyager or Autoguard working on Android 4.4.2? When I try to record video using Daily Roads Voyager it stops immediately ("error encountered"). Autoguard gives the impression that it is recording video, but can't play back any of the video files that it creates. Both are configured to save video to Storage (rather than external SD card).

I guess this capture might help you...

The problem turned out to be a general problem capturing video. If I tried to capture video using the Camera app I got the message "Camera failed". A factory reset resolved it, but it happened again the next day. This time I wiped the cache partition after doing the factory reset, so fingers crossed....

And, BTW, I'm using these settings for recording. Might help...

[Q] Camera Making Cracking Noise while focussing

I updated my Nexus 4 to Kitkat recently and now I am facing problem while taking pictures.
As soon as an image is captured the camera makes a cracking noise from the backside. Sound is like some switch going on and off "tik tik tik tik"
and then if I minimize the camera app phone can used and camera app can be closed and reopened again.
But if I keep it cracking then within 2 secs the phone freezes and restarts itself.
I tried using other apps like Cymera and I am able to take pictures without any problem.
This problem occurs 50% of the times I use stock camera app. Sometime works fine sometimes hangs up.
How do I get rid of this?
Google support suggested factory reset. I have not rooted my phone. Is there any way I can backup few important apps with their data on PC before I try factory reset?
Thanks in advance!!

I think its caused by camera's focus mechanism and it is just a little click noise but yes sometimes it makes very audible noise, especially with HDR function(which does not focus when you press to focus it just seems green. It only focuses when you move phone or it is just me). Can you check and listen closely if other camera apps doing that click noise when you focus ? I dont think factory reset solve this because I do several factory resets and flashing 4.4 it does not change a thing.
I get that ticking sound as well but only sometimes when I open or close anything that uses the camera, never during focusing. I can't imagine factory reset would help but if you're gonna give it a shot I'd recommend Helium to backup apps https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup though I think you'd need root to backup any system app data.
Problem Solved
Thanks Scrye & AlderCass,
I did factory reset and tried camera it was working fine. Then google started installing my apps and after that was complete I started getting the problem again. So I got skeptical about some app making the stock camera malfunction. I removed an app called cymera and rebooted the phone.
and to my relief it started behaving awesome like before

Can take & save photos, but not video

Ok, I've got a Sprint Samsung GS4 (SPH-L720) running AOKP jb-mr2 Milestone 1... basically, android 4.3.1. Its got the NAE base band and its running the latest Chronic Kernel.
I recently had to do a factory reset after the phone got stuck in boot loop, but upon resetting and restoring the phone, play store restore, not nandroid or titanium, I have discovered that the phone wont record video...
At first i thought that maybe it was that I always swap out the AOKP (AOSP) camera for the JB Google experience camera, but upon further testing found that the phone just seems to not be able to record ANY video, except in ONE case... The video camera wont record, instagram wont record and vine will record and save ONLY if the full length of a vine is recorded... In each case, the app counts as if it IS recording, but when stopped, the regular camera just resets and doesn't save. On instagram and vine, the progress bar resets to zero...
Using the STOCK AOSP camera, I believe, when you stop recording, it'll say something like "cant save, video is too short"...
If I set the camera to record a time lapse, that seems to work fine and all the apps can take pics, but what none of the apps seem to be able to do is SAVE whatever they are capturing... I know I've recorded before my last factory reset though because I recorded some clips of something I wanted to remember that I played on the piano, and I can play those back just fine, but now, I just cant record video...
I don't know how it worked once before and after doing a factory reset it suddenly doesn't work, you would figure that if the camera wasn't working, maybe a FR would fix it, but it's gone the other way...
This has been a constant aggravation for me and I've searched high and low, trying to avoid starting a thread on something that was asked before at any point, for anyone who may be able to know why none of the apps seem to be able to save captured video...
There's got to be someone on XDA who knows this or that has maybe encountered this... Someone, please help!

[Q] Camera cannot connect

Hello,
I have been having a problem with the camera on my s4.
Every few hours my phone will display the message "cannot connect to camera" and I can't use the selected camera on my phone. Sometimes it's only one of the cameras, sometimes it's both. When I restart my phone the camera works fine. Also sometimes erasing the camera cache is enough to get the camera to work again but not always. I can't remember if I had this problem when I ran stock OS but I've had 2 different roms on my phone (Vanir and CM11) and both have the same issue.
Is there a leftover folder on my internal storage that I should be deleting?
The app I use daily is snapchat and that is where I notice that the camera is not connecting. I know snapchat and rooted phones/roms do not play nice so could that be the issue. Just looking for some insight into this problem
Thank You
Does the regular camera app work fine, or do you get the connection error there as well?

After I notice the message in snapchat I get the "cannot connect to camera" in the base camera app as well. Whether it happened because of snapchat I don't know, that's just the place where I notice it first.

You are running a highly outdated CM version. You are running 11 and we are already on 12.1. I suggest you try to update it first.

S8 weird camera problem

Hi guys, I have been dealing with s8 camera problem for months now and decided to ask before I smash my phone into the wall.
Problem looks simple, I start recording and it randomly stops. Its followed by quick flash(the one that you see when switching the camera on) and looks like camera is restarting. It happens after 2,5, 10 seconds or sometimes doesn't happen at all. I recorded a video of my baby and after 20s I found out that recording stopped and I didn't get anything. I tried to use a camera in safe mode, seems to be working fine there.
Does it mean that some apps interfere with camera app? Also tried cleaning the cache which didn't help. Is there a way to find what apps are causing the issue? Is factory reset best option in my case? I would add that I can see those weird flashes even when I'm not recording and camera is simply switched on.
I would appreciate any help guys. Thank you.
Do you try some other camera apk ?

Yes, they worked fine and didn't have any issues. I would like to use an original app tho because I find it much quicker and less complicated. Wonder if it's maybe related to Samsung cloud sync. I'm just too scared to factory reset lol
So you are saying that U never tried to solve the problem by doing a factory reset? That should be second thing on your list, after restarting. xD

Black screen when recording videos

Do you guys experience a black screen for 1-5 seconds when you take videos using the stock camera using auto settings? This happens when the photo size is set to 4:3 and the video resolution is set to 16:9.
Examples (it is worse with SD card):
Internal

SD card
-https://youtu.be/3KbXS-8QsrQ
Can you guys test this for me?
I need to determine if this happens to all phones or just mines so I can decide to exchange /repair it.
My device is US996 7.0
EDIT: OREO update seem to fixed it. but there is still a slight delay .

Try clearing your cams cache. Other than that...sounds like your phone or software. Also try a different cam app if issue persists.

I tried factory resetting and safe mode. But it still happens. It only happens if I use stock cam using that exact setting using auto mode. Doesn't happen when both is set to 16:9, manual mode or other camera apps like g cam and open camera; there's no black screen but the delay before it record may be still there, but I'm assuming that could be normal.
I'll try updating to oreo to see if it fixes it.
Atm, I requested an RMA for incase I can't fix this in stock.
It don't do that for me...I'm on ls997 classic ROM. Stock or this V30 port I'm running don't do that. Gcam is an odd one...but that's expected.

I updated to oreo and the black screen is gone. There's still like a 1-2 second delay with internal storage (timed it) when I press the record button and when I see the record icon shows up. Should i assume that is normal with this phone?
I probably have to live with that...
