Ok, I've got a Sprint Samsung GS4 (SPH-L720) running AOKP jb-mr2 Milestone 1... basically, android 4.3.1. Its got the NAE base band and its running the latest Chronic Kernel.
I recently had to do a factory reset after the phone got stuck in boot loop, but upon resetting and restoring the phone, play store restore, not nandroid or titanium, I have discovered that the phone wont record video...
At first i thought that maybe it was that I always swap out the AOKP (AOSP) camera for the JB Google experience camera, but upon further testing found that the phone just seems to not be able to record ANY video, except in ONE case... The video camera wont record, instagram wont record and vine will record and save ONLY if the full length of a vine is recorded... In each case, the app counts as if it IS recording, but when stopped, the regular camera just resets and doesn't save. On instagram and vine, the progress bar resets to zero...
Using the STOCK AOSP camera, I believe, when you stop recording, it'll say something like "cant save, video is too short"...
If I set the camera to record a time lapse, that seems to work fine and all the apps can take pics, but what none of the apps seem to be able to do is SAVE whatever they are capturing... I know I've recorded before my last factory reset though because I recorded some clips of something I wanted to remember that I played on the piano, and I can play those back just fine, but now, I just cant record video...
I don't know how it worked once before and after doing a factory reset it suddenly doesn't work, you would figure that if the camera wasn't working, maybe a FR would fix it, but it's gone the other way...
This has been a constant aggravation for me and I've searched high and low, trying to avoid starting a thread on something that was asked before at any point, for anyone who may be able to know why none of the apps seem to be able to save captured video...
There's got to be someone on XDA who knows this or that has maybe encountered this... Someone, please help!

Video mode is the same.
I tried clear data for the Camera app and force close it but its the same...
can any one help?
btw i searched the forums but i didn't find anything sorry if there is a thread about this already
i also hv this problem also... please help us..
~i thought it is bcoz of the spare part apps. then i try to set it default. but it still same..
BUMP. Help us please
I have the same problem.
As a workaround, if you slide the camera/video slider, the Tab switches back to the camera setting, and the viewfinder is displayed.
I have had some other problems with my tab, like crashing apps all the time, I made a hardreset and now everything is fine. You may test it and report here.
i had the same problem with the camera app. sliding the camera/video slider doesn't help.
so i reboot the tab & its working fine now.
regards,
mike
Yup, i know, after reboot, the problem gone. So, if like that, everytime i face the problem, i hv to reboot. How can like that..
I am facing this issue too, any fix?
Damn now I'm in the boat, but I think I know why this happens, my camera doesnt show black screen or something, it shows the last viewed youtube video and if I switch to video cam, two youtube vids are shown.
So may its caused by the new youtube app?
So, all hv this problem by using the new youtube app?
How to revert back to previous version of youtube? Where can get the installer?
I also have the problem its not cuz of youtube app, it happens with videos that you watch any video from any app.

i have the exact same problem..viewfinder gets stuck on the last frame of the last viewed video, and only a restart can fix it. Any news on a proper solution for this? I hate restarting the phone...
cam problem
Hello devs plz helps all with tis fix of viewfinder we are waiting for it, every time we use video call, u tube, play game, this freezes the view finder, looking forward to fix from you ppl, no hopes from samsung as usual
thankx in advance
I had the problem on the camera of SGT as well 3 months back. However, I sent in my SGT for an upgrade of firmware due to other reasons (not because of the camera issue). And the problem has gone forever.
When I encountered this problem back then, I tried rebooting, clearing of memory (RAM), it goes off for a while, but it came right back, especially when you view YouTube. It is quite annoying.
So, my advice to you guys is to send it to Samsung for a firmware upgrade, it just takes less than an hour. By the way, my SGT is stock ROM.
I updated my Nexus 4 to Kitkat recently and now I am facing problem while taking pictures.
As soon as an image is captured the camera makes a cracking noise from the backside. Sound is like some switch going on and off "tik tik tik tik"
and then if I minimize the camera app phone can used and camera app can be closed and reopened again.
But if I keep it cracking then within 2 secs the phone freezes and restarts itself.
I tried using other apps like Cymera and I am able to take pictures without any problem.
This problem occurs 50% of the times I use stock camera app. Sometime works fine sometimes hangs up.
How do I get rid of this?
Google support suggested factory reset. I have not rooted my phone. Is there any way I can backup few important apps with their data on PC before I try factory reset?
Thanks in advance!!

I think its caused by camera's focus mechanism and it is just a little click noise but yes sometimes it makes very audible noise, especially with HDR function(which does not focus when you press to focus it just seems green. It only focuses when you move phone or it is just me). Can you check and listen closely if other camera apps doing that click noise when you focus ? I dont think factory reset solve this because I do several factory resets and flashing 4.4 it does not change a thing.
I get that ticking sound as well but only sometimes when I open or close anything that uses the camera, never during focusing. I can't imagine factory reset would help but if you're gonna give it a shot I'd recommend Helium to backup apps https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.koushikdutta.backup though I think you'd need root to backup any system app data.
Problem Solved
Thanks Scrye & AlderCass,
I did factory reset and tried camera it was working fine. Then google started installing my apps and after that was complete I started getting the problem again. So I got skeptical about some app making the stock camera malfunction. I removed an app called cymera and rebooted the phone.
and to my relief it started behaving awesome like before
Feeling happy
Hi, ever since I got my G928T I've been having an extremely strange problem where video and audio will not play (regardless of source). This means nothing out of the speakers , and in the case of YouTube, the video being frozen on the first frame.
I've done a factory firmware reset through Kies, and am now rooted running the new custom kernel released a few days ago. I also converted /system, /data, and /cache to f2fs.
However, regardless of what I do, the problem persists.
The only way I've been able to do anything about this problem is by placing a phone call and then ending it. I have no idea why, but this will always fix the audio and sometimes the video for a short period of time.
Does anyone have any ideas as to why this is happening? The times when the phone call doesn't fix it are extremely annoying; I practically run my life on my phone and the inability to play media isn't a good thing.
Thanks!
A little more detail with the calling: every single time I want to play a different YouTube video, I have to open the dialer, place a call, and go back to YouTube for the video go begin playback.
Does anyone have any ideas? I'm still trying to find a solutuon!
I dont know i mean trying to find the answer does anyone know this plz give the answer ok
Furthermore, this issue isn't solely audio and video, it's every single sound throughout the OS (including keyboard clicks and tap sounds).
Very odd, I really don't know what to do :/
MAY HAVE FOUND A FIX!! I disabled AdaptSound and SoundAlive with Titanium Backup and I've yet to experience any issues.
This may be what we need!
Let me know if it works for you guys!
I also installed Viper4Audio, and used force enable for the super high audio quality driver.
EDIT: Does not seem to always work; instances of failure have still ocurred
They do, however, seem to be somewhat less frequent...
Good luck everyone!
So a bit more info: ever since installing Viper and disabling said apps via Titanium Backup, I find that most of the time I simply need to press the lock button when the song audio/video isn't working and that'll fix it. I have no idea why turning the screen off would make the phone to play the sound, but that's where I'm at now..
Hey All,
As the title suggests, the camera app crashes on my 6p while doing slow motion video. I've seen a few mentions of this here and there on the web, with suggestions to factory reset / wipe cache, etc. I have tried this but no luck. I don't really see a definitive answer anywhere, but see quite a few complaints about it.
What happens is the camera app crashes when trying to take slow motion video, while zoomed in, either at 120 fps or 240 fps. I haven't seen anybody else mention this specifically while zoomed in, but that's what's happening to me. If I'm in the camera app and switch to slow mo video, then zoom in, move the phone around a bit, the app freezes and crashes with a "cannot connect to camera" error 100% of the time. I don't even have to start recording, the screen just starts to get jumpy, then eventually freezes completely. It's not a random thing, I can replicate the problem over and over.
Anybody else? I'm running 6.0.1, with the Dec 3 Google camera update.

Mine freezes up, no FC. Definitely a bad bug the mothership needs to squash. Just tried it a second time and no freezing? wtf Google.
Edit: forgot to mention, bone stock, no root 6.0.1
I am also stock, no root. It crashes every single time for me, restarting doesn't help.
EDIT: I should mention this happens when zoomed in fully, either on 120 or 240 fps. I don't even have to try to record anything, it crashes before recording even starts. The screen gets jumpy, and a few seconds later freezes entirely. I can see also the little laser on the back seems to be stuck on. Almost like the auto focus got overloaded and froze. The more I move the camera around with it trying to focus, the faster it freezes.
Also, if by chance I can get an actually video taken, the playback is horribly choppy, pretty much unusable.
I also get this about 50% of the time time I'm running stock.

Think this is a software glitch? Seems like a fairly easy to reproduce bug but I don't see a lot of mention of it, if any on the Internet. Just want to make sure it's not hardware related.
Can i downgrade from OOS 10.0.1 to 10.0.0 by dirty flashing the old Rom on top of the new one? I want to avoid having to configure everything again and installing all apps all over again, so i wanted to know if there is any shortcut for downgrading.
In case you are wondering, it's because i dont like the OOS 10.0.1 video stabilization feature, which sometimes takes too long to save a video after it has been recorded or it has some weird zoom ins and zoom outs when recording in a dark room.
have you tried using any other camera apps?
GCAM seems to be the best alternative to oos cam, try recording with it and see if you're satisfied with its results.
as for downgrading, I don't have any idea, but I don't think that you can dirty flash it, so I highly recommend you not to do so.
I had same issue. One plus 5 (@10.0.1), was having problems where video files would take very long to save. Additionally none of my video recordings record with audio. Ran like this for months until my nerves quit,
I finally did a factory reset and everything was good for a week but the problem came back. I have no audio when saving selfie or rear cam videos. Doesnt matter if i record, 720, 1080, 1080-60, or 4k, same damn error. About to toss this phone in the trash. It's clearly a software bug of some sorts. Clearing cache/storage on camera app doesn't fix. Using different 3rd party camera app doesnt work. Restarting and clearing phone's system cache doesnt fix either. Dont think running a second factory reset is worth my time and the hassle as it will probably produce the same error in the long run yet again.
Factory stock- Gallery app 3.7.32, and camera app 3.0.69.
Thinking of downgrading to OS v9 or perhaps downgrading the camera app? Do you know if either is possible nowadays?
