Android L - Galaxy Note II General

Android L has been successfully ported in Nexus4 today and is being run almost flawlessly by several. When our GT-N 7100 will be seeing this? Can anybody tell?

Porting a developer preview is a waste of time.

What an utterly ridiculously stupid thing to say on XDA. It may be a waste of time for YOU but not for the person(s) who enjoys porting/trying/learning/testing or for proof on concept etc.
For example, testing/trying ports now on Dev preview will make the final port quicker/easier if prior porting issues are found/ironed out in advance.

I strongly second you.And in this case the one ported in Nexus4 seems to be a stable one.More than 84 pages have been covered in that thread since the opening it and most of the followers seem to be contented. This shows that Floating Fatman's statement is most ridiculous and baseless. My question is will any developer will port a similar or better one for our N7100?Anxiously waiting...

I'd think AOSB might be the first, if its even possible to port it over to our Note 2.

Somebody will certainly port it at some stage, Just need to be patient.
I'm quite looking forward to Android L. Hopefully CM will release CM12 not long after it goes final. Took a while for CM11 to hit the n7100 though so not sure.

EVO 4G ROM Leaked today.

The shipping ROM of the HTC EVO 4G has now been leaked. The RUU_Supersonic_1.32.651.1_Radio_1.39.00.04.26_release_171253.exe file is the official ROM present on the devices that will go on sale on June 4th (and probably originates from one the handsets offered yesterday during Google I/O). You can grab the file here. I guess that the next logical step will be an attempt to port this ROM to the HTC HD2.

+1 lol. can't wait to see android on this hd2.
I think it is better to wait for froyo if this rom can be installed on the HD2.
this i would love to see
Could someone who knows about the difficulties associated with porting ROMs quickly describe how feasible getting a work of port of android from the EVO 4G over to the HD2 would be?
I imagine the fact that the camera is different would cause problems?

Lawl, you guys must be smoking some pretty good pot. This will take months. You are assuming that every single internal part save for the camera is identical. I'm pretty certain it won't be. It'll be a long time before any port of Android is working on the HD2. Until then, it's best you not get your hopes too high because you'd surely be disappointed if you think a working port is feasible in 4 ~ 8 weeks.
this topic has been beaten to death over and over guys. i'm not trying to come off as a ****, but please search and read before making posts, because it upsets the devs. A LOT of parts are different between the HD2 and EVO, they don't even use the same touchscreen. This is going to take some time. Be patient.
a quick Google search will reveal picture and video evidence of this already working, along with Windows Phone 7 succesfully ported on the HD2. problems arise with the assignment of the hard buttons more than anything else.

I've got no such expectations, for one I pointed out at least the camera is different and I assume a whole lot of other stuff is too.
Anyway, here's a question I've never seen addressed in any topic but is interesting for layman plebs:
What information do official HTC devs have access to which XDA devs don't, which makes churning out working drivers, etc. for phones doable for the former and nigh-on impossible for the latter? Please don't misinterpret this post as accusing XDA devs of being lazy or anything, I'm just curious as to why it's so difficult.

The knowledge that a hefty paycheck is arriving at the end of every two weeks and that if they don't perform, they'll get replaced with another person who is qualified and willing to deliver on said schedule. Things change when you do it as a hobby and when you're struggling to make a better life for yourself and/or spouse and kids.
Even a somewhat working version of Android on the Blackstone came out what, 12 months after its release? Making Android work on a Windows Mobile device is not some plug and play magic or drag and drop process as a lot of you are making it out to be (not directly at you, in general). While I'm only a beginner in programming, I know the difficulty that goes into making a good single working software, let alone making an entire OS work on a completely different set of hardware.

The official developers get the hardware datasheets from the manufacturers and software apis because they are licensed to work on these devices. If xda devs got those things, it would be much easier.

Android has not been ported yet. I don't know where you saw that, but its probably fake. There have been videos of WinPhone 7, but it hasn't been established whether its fake or not.

MeeGo is a full Linux distribution, using X11, so it's very portable. Both Nokia and Intel will be putting a lot of effort into MeeGo to make it perfect for phones and tablets, and it's super slick and multi-touch enabled, etc.
I agree with the rest steve this is how it would most likely play out if you release it now
if you release it now you open many doors to lots of other devs ready to tweak it and improve it just look how far android has come in less than 6 months i mean we have fully functional builds and by different devs each improving in other words if ya notice when mdeejay would release a fix for something no one else could find darkstone would implement it on his next build or vice versa. so by releasing this beta stage of meego you open many opportunities and most likely speed up the process. PLEASE STEVE RELEASE AN ALPHA BUILD WE ALL KNOW WHAT WERE GOING TO EXPECT remember android builds that were extremely unstable? im sure i speak for alot of people
(or atleaste update us with videos on how its going if you dont want to release an alpha build) YOUR STILL THE BEST ive been wanting meego over android for a long time now

Hackability?

Hi there!
Currently thinking of grabbing a Oppo Find 5, but I won't make the same mistake again I did with the Galaxy S2 - updates, quite no doc/source for custom ROMs etc.
So, how open is the Oppo?
I see, that CM has landed, but how much is open sourced or are at least the interfaces docuemented?
Thanks for clarification!
Didn't find much on that subject...

Could you give me some details on what is open/working and what gives us trouble?
I assume that the sound part is difficult to get by, as they claim to have some Dirac HD licensed - given I don't know Dirac HD and their licensing policy...

Do note that two former GS2 CM maintainers have this device, and we both like it.
The real key is that it's Qualcomm-based (qcom has excellent documentation), and Oppo doesn't deviate far from Qualcomm's CAF reference sources.
We also now have access to a technical contact who can answer some questions for us - many of the camera issues in CM should have been improved last weekend thanks to a tip from Oppo.
For me right now, the big question is how hard it is to get to the UART port of the device, since I think I'm going to need it for an upcoming effort.

i really want multirom and bcmon also on the oneplus one what else needs to get ported to the oneplus?
Sailfish/MultiROM for the OnePlus One
I'm familiar enough with the process of porting/building SailfishOS that I could probably get it running on the OnePlus One in less than a weekend. The hardware looks similar enough to the Nexus 5 - at least as far as the Qualcomm parts are concerned - that it should be a fairly simple port.
I've been trying to save up for a new phone for a while, but I haven't found one that I like enough to buy at unlocked-phone prices.
Call me cheap, but I felt like I overpaid for my Nexus 4 - which I probably did, because I traded a tablet for it.
I don't tend to develop low-level stuff like this for phones I don't own or at least plan to buy, but I have a long history of "porting" Linux distributions (mainly Debian and non-Unity, "desktop" Ubuntu) to Android phones by modifying the kernel to load the root filesystem from a microSD card, among other things.
Before you get too excited, remember that I may or may not be able to get everything working immediately - just look at how long camera support has been missing from Sailfish on the Nexus 4. On that note, the Sailfish camera HAL is in flux right now, but once it stabilizes, getting the cameras working should be easier.
By the time I get an invite and get around to buying a One, there's bound to be other people working on it, especially if this is as important as I think it is.
TL;DR: In a few weeks I should have money, in another few weeks I should have a device, and shortly after that there should be code.
I'm pretty confident that it should be relatively easy to get the port started, but don't expect miracle-speed progress towards getting all the hardware working.

MULTIROM for the Oneplus is a port, the Sailfish support is a reflection of this. You'll need a working image of Sailfish .. AFAIK no-one has made one yet for the Oneplus.
Anyone know if this is being developed?
I would love to see sailfish on the oneplus one. Does anyone know if this is being currently worked on or if there a compatible version out there on the net?

Won't happen until Alcatel releases the source code and given that the phone was just released to canada as recently as June 30th you can expect to wait a couple of months for that.
Just want I want a bug filled rom that gets rid of one problem and another pops up. I just love when we all use cm and the Bluetooth crashes all the time, disconnects, and overall bearly works. I love when the wifi disconnects and you have to restart the phone just to get it to work.
Sorry I'll stick to the stock rom where everything works perfectly fine.
Wont be any cm roms until we get twrp first. Im shocked more devs dont own this device.

It hasn't even been out 2 months yet. It's an off name most are not familiar with and alcatel's first true shot at an enterprise/flagship level device. It has threads on slickdeals.net advertising it's low price...it will eventually get support by either the source being released or a new exploit being found that can be used to provide temp or perm root...once someone has root they can pull the recovery and boot partitions and development can begin.
It's unrealistic to expect developer's to be jumping all over this phone so soon. I'd never even heard of it till I was looking to buy a zen phone 2 and found so many articles comparing it to the idol 3.
Woukd be nice to have it or either dirty unicorns crdroid or omnirom ^^ now that we have a working TWRP

yeah id miss it too but meh lol but theres the dolby atmos app that has been ported from a lenovo ROM that should work with our speakers and also there can be a way to port the colorOS camera app from oppo phones those can take up to 50mp shots because they use sony sensors even on the one plus one has been achieved an yet it has the same sony sensor also hopefully xposed framework could work on us because of the adaway for youtube ^^
Well if someone's working on a CM port I'd be interested in helping to test it.
Thatd be nice id help too for testing purposes im a very heavy user and this phone has been keeping up with me lately
I'll throw my vote in for a cm port. as well as another tester if needed. Dont have tons of experience, but I'll be happy to help where I can.
well im pretty sure theres going to be a bounty thread for it or any other rom ^^
hi guys,
i just ordered this phone and soon within this month hopefuly will land in my hands in india.
my question is cant we use sources of other SD 615 phones like MI4I, YUreka and TCL M3G to develop rom for our device/ or cant we use their roms with our stock kernel ???
as TCL M3G is already having cm 12.1 and MIUI V6 and several other roms on movilesdualsim forum

Can you use the computer chip from a v8 chevy in a v8 ford? The software has to match to the hardware. How is the software going to control the screen when they have different digitizers? Different sound cards. Just as with your pc the drivers have to match the hardware.
Just pray to the phone Gods they roll out a 5.1 update and release it...

hahaha praying here too but we need their source code so that someone can work on a ROM for us
One of the CM maintainers, contacted me here on a PM today and requested files from the device. The work on the CM port will be started probably the next week. I will not disclose his ID for now in order to save him from possible questions on PMs. Probably CyanogenMod soon will be available for the Idol ... I just spread the news.
Cool, looking forward to it!

Thanks for the update! It's been quiet for a little bit regarding a CM port. Good to see it's still WIP.
While I look forward to having trees to build with, I find it kinda funny that they asked for files when a couple of them have the device already. Unless the files are from a different version?
