I need answers from hardware specialists rather than software specialists.
I am trying to overclock my Galaxy S4 9505 GPU (Adreno 320) as much as possible. All I know that I need to keep an eye on temperature and NOT to increase it over 90C (to be safe).
But I noticed that I have the only one temperature sensor in galaxy S4..? is it only for CPU, or both - GPU and CPU?
I see it masivelly increases when my CPU is running at frequency of 2160mhz, but when I overclocked my GPU from 450mhz to 545mhz I didn't notice any bigger temperature increasing. Only a better score in benchmarks

Our phones cannot display more then ~56 fps due to vsync
Test settings: JM2, samset 1.8, mimocans ext4 fix + dalvik cache sent to nand, 8gb class 6 sd, all benchmarks were only run once.
Neocore:
200mhz : 36.8 fps
400mhz : 56 fps
800mhz : 56 fps
1000mhz : 56 fps
Yes, with our cpu reduced by 80% we still beat the nexus one and other froyo omapp/snapdragon cpu's in neocore.
Quadrant: (world & moon, the others are more difficult to test)
200mhz : 40fps : 410 Quadrant
400mhz : 56fps : 789 Quadrant
800mhz : 56fps : 1532 Quadrant
1000mhz: 56fps: 1762 Quadrant
Fps2d is 56 fps at all cpu settings.
-IMPORTANT-
Due to the nature of vsync we have no idea what fps we could be getting, Generally when you scale down cpu performance the bandwidth available for the gpu decreases dramatically as the processor cannot handle the new frames to keep up with the gpu. What this is showing us is that in neocore at 1000mhz we only require 20% of the cpu to get 36.8 fps and somewhere around 300mhz to get to the 56fps vsync cap. For all i know the gpu might only be able to output 70 fps without vsync at 1,000mhz, the question is by how much does reducing the cpu speed effect the available bandwidth to the gpu
This shows us:
1. Our gpu is largely held back by the frame-limit, the cpu also has an impact on the gpu performance.
2. We need better benchmarks to test only 3d performance, many of the 3d tests in quadrant are either heavy on the cpu, or are 2d tests. And neocore is simply not taxing enough on our gpu.
3. Need to find a way to remove vsync

Even currently in 1.1 it's showing some impressive results, even though it's not supported very well on latest-gen gpu's (SGX530/535/540 mostly)

Hello, i have overclock my tablet with tegrak, i have set cpu to 1600 and gpu to 400.
I have tray to play with gta3 with these settings and the risoult is awesome! The game is more smoth and the lag goes out! I mean at full resolution !
My question is.. sameone have any experience in overclocking this samsung devices with a9 and mali-400 ? Sameone have used any galaxy s2 or galaxy note for long times with the gpu and cpu overclocked? Any issues? Your overclocked devices still works or the overclock has broke it? In your opinion my p6800 (that is more large of a galaxy s2 and loss more heat)will handle an overclocked gpu and cpu without destroing itself? Please same real experience
Ps. Is there any way to overclock the mali in any different speedstep? The only one after 276 is 400, and 400 maybe can be too hot.
Don't you need a special kernel to be able to over clock? Or does tegrak somehow bypass that need?

I installed CM7 with DSC Phoenix test2,overclock to 1344MHz.
when I bench with Quadrant Advanced ver2.1, my score is >1300 to 1400.
It's lower than my old milestone 1 (with CPU 600 MHz Cortex-A8 and GPU PowerVR SGX530, overclock to 1,1Ghz). quadrant score of milestone1 is > 1700. I dont know why?
And this morning I tested with HTC Incredible S of my friend (CPU 1 GHz Scorpion
and GPU Adreno 205, ICS rom without overclock). Score is > 1900.
Is my streak weak? I cant believe streak5 is slower than milestone1 and HTC Incredible S.

I think many on here will agree with me when I say forget about the benchmark scores. They largely mean nothing as it relates to real world performance and you can drive yourself crazy trying to tweak your phone to death to increase the numbers. With that being said, the performance hit is likely in the file i/o section.
As normal user and not a programmer, I dont understand about the file i/o section. But thanks you, Lordmorphous. So I'll forget foolish scores, what a stupid app =))
File I/O = File input and output, which in simpler language is the act of reading and writing to the MicroSD cards.
Quadrant and other such benchmark tools are fun to run, but they don't mean much. To properly test a device requires a benchmark program like Futuremark's PCMark, which includes real-world applications and simulates real-world usage. There is no such benchmark app for Android however.
though, if you guys notice the benchmark for the quadrant advance 2.x, the i/o score for our DS5 does a bit low compared to others but... well you know, it just numbers... nothing more.. nothing less...
however, cpu power does have the impact when overclocked, for let say using default cpu speed of 1ghz, software decoding is a bit slow compared to overclocked 1.2ghz...

hi guys i just want to know what is the max overclock of the cpu and the gpu for the nexus 7 ( please has to be has safe as possible, i dont want to damage the tablet too much, and yes i know that overcloking will reduce the life of the tablet) I want to get the best performance out of this tablet!!!!!
Note: battery drain is not a problem!!! I will use the nexus 7 for gaming most of the time and also browsing!!!

Most people can go to 1600 on the CPU. Any real world performance increase from the stock 1300 is negligible.
I wouldn't overclock the GPU past 446 (+30) because anything higher creates a lot of heat and people have reported benchmarks actually being lower once you go much higher than that.

Hi, tbh you'll probably not notice much if you overclock the cpu to 1.6ghz as percentage wise it isn't a large jump. Things may feel a little zippy at times though, in my house I have acces to two n7's, one stock and one overclockable to 1.6ghz. Ran tests between them and the 1.6ghz was fractionally faster, the difference was very small. Overclocking the gpu to 600mhz vs 416mhz at stock made a huge difference, as it it made some games actually playable. Despite the crap Nivida spit out about the tega 3 soc, it's GPU is comparatively weak. Over-clocking the GPU will give immediate performance increase in a lot of games. After doing heat and clock speed tests myself, I've found anything in-between 416-600mhz to give near enough liner performance increase and heat to be long term sustainable depending on the voltages your device can handle. Overall, I doubt CPU overclocking will give you much benifit, but if you play games the gpu overclock will. If your worried about heat from overclocking the gpu a lot, you can always use this kernel http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1937146, which gives you full GPU clock and voltage control so you can undervolt your gpu to reduce heat. I wouldn't run at 600mhz unless I could undervolt the gpu as much as I have and I use that kernel because of it. I have my gpu overclocked to 600mhz running at 1225mV, which is only +25mV above stock voltage for 416mhz. Although most heat is generated from the transition period of the transistor charging/ discharging, undervoting does give a large positive effect on heat output if it's large enough. But 600mhz is a high GPU clock and the highest I'd recommend, tbh I would say 520mhz is a really good compromise between heat, performance and battery, especially if you under-volt the GPU at that frequency for most people if your not as annal with FPS as I am :silly:

yes i have almost sure they are real, but puting the nexus 7 in 2Ghz will, i think will damage a lot the tablet!!!
The 2 GHz kernel was a test to see how far the Nexus 7 could be pushed. This kernel wasn't released for obvious reasons so yes, those pics/ benchmarks were true.
According to the review of Anandtech, the Mali T760 GPU on our Galaxy S6 has a unused 852 Mhz clock state. Normal speed now is 772 Mhz. Hopefully, this can be enabled in future in custom kernels to better drive those 2k displays. I wonder why they didn't enable it default as the SoC on 14nm should handle the temperature. More speed Ahead i hope.

Perhaps, with custom kernel we can maybe turn off 2 A57 cores and ramp up to MAX GPU 852 Mhz, that'll be sweet.
Actually the test on the battery page proved that the GPU is throtteling when it targets the maxium frequency
"The one major issue here that is visible from the FPS vs time graph is that Samsung continues to struggle with graceful throttling as the GPU attempts to always target maximum performance, which causes a strong rise and fall in frame rate as the GPU goes through periods of high and low clock speeds determined by the thermal governor."

I think this only happens on sustained push by the benchmark app, i doubt it'll be same behaviour on real world usage. But in any case custom kernels will provide various tweaks and alternative governors to try.
They have also hidden 4 frequencies on the larger cores. They are at 2.2 even though they can go up to 2.5.

DVFS is sadly in effect all the time limiting the frequency. You can check it yourself by opening CPU-Z in multiwindow (only way to display frequency of the mali gpu) and running a game. Only thing that is going to let users run customised settings is xposed with DVFS disabler + custom kernel.
