How do I install the volume mod (in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2306701&page=1 ) on an unrooted S4 using a mac?
Thanks
Simple, root the phone...
You can't install or flash any mods on an unrooted phone as you need to access the system files to do so... There is no workaround...

Someone on the other thread said you can flash mods through custom recovery through Odin. However, I dont have a PC I can use and I dont know how to do any of that.

Actually, it has been answered. Root is required. No ifs, ands, or buts. You need root access to modify system files and libraries. It may not be the answer you want to hear, but it is the answer to your question.

Hi
I've been trying to root my Note 3 using the Kingo App but part way through I get this error...
i.imgur. com/DGlOcXw. jpg (spaces in link)
Sorry about the link, I can't post image properly as I'm a new user. It basically says that Kingo will now start to root by flashing a custom recovery through Odin and will Definitely void warranty...
I've searched this site and googled a bit, but can't find why this is happening. Can anyone help with any info on this..?
Cheers..!

you have "taken" the update #16 security patch and the exploit kingo used has been fixed.
ive heard factory reset will remove this patch to allow you to use kingo

Did a factory reset really work? I can't see how it would remove the fix from the update by doing a reset.

Hi all,
Me and the Mrs both have Galaxy S5 (Int variantions) on EE in the UK. She got an OTA update to G900W8VLU1AND... But I didn't..
Manually searching for an update brings nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks!

All updates are at Sammobile.
http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/
Once you root but keep stock, you should check there once a month or so, see if there is a new ROM for your carrier, and install via Odin. You simply type in your exact model number, and it will list them all.
Wont he trip knox...then warranty is viod

So, I'm currently running cloudyg2 2.2, and I'm thinking about downgrading back to stock and then taking the OTA to lollipop, but I haven't heard anyone mention if it is possible to retain root through the update process, or to obtain root afterwards. It'd be great if there was a flashable zip, but I don't know if that's possible at the moment.
You can get root again. Its a script in the development forum.
If you do this can you make a twrp backup of the stock lollipop rom and upload it? (since you'll essentially be pure stock anyway).
I'll buy you a beer
I see a link for a tool you use while connected to a computer, but does stump root still work?

No, all on-device roots are patched with Lollipop (unless you have a custom recovery, which is unobtainable on stock lollipop for the d800 as far as I know)
Use the one that requires PC. If you run into issues, pm me or reply to me on this thread.

root is easy, and ill confirm about bump recovery in 30 mins, charging phone for any re flashing required.
recovery is good to go now autorec for specific model at playstore.
Please upload flashable zip of this official AT&T lollipop.
Does anyone know if downgrading back to kitkat is a possibility at this point in time?

I'd assume you could just use a kdz to go back.
So.. no recovery as of yet on official Lollipop am I right?
Keeping that in mind, is it worth the update? Is it smoother/better?
I know this can be asked in any of the other threads, but I'm asking here with respect to its worth when compared to losing Custom Recovery.
