How do I install the volume mod (in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2306701&page=1 ) on an unrooted S4 using a mac?
Thanks
Simple, root the phone...
You can't install or flash any mods on an unrooted phone as you need to access the system files to do so... There is no workaround...

Someone on the other thread said you can flash mods through custom recovery through Odin. However, I dont have a PC I can use and I dont know how to do any of that.

Actually, it has been answered. Root is required. No ifs, ands, or buts. You need root access to modify system files and libraries. It may not be the answer you want to hear, but it is the answer to your question.

There is no known way of rooting unless you flash the MF3 modem and use Voodoo Rootkeeper

Using the same iroot file?
1. Download and Flash Philz Recovery through pc odin in Pda Tab
Download Recovery - https://www.dropbox.com/s/5sklu856gei2f09/philz_touch_5.15.0-n7100.tar.md5
Download Odin - https://www.dropbox.com/s/oa2q08x0v2xgis7/Odin3-v1.85.zip
2. Download DrKetan_MultiTool_AdvanceV5 and Put it In Internal sd Of the Phone
Download - https://db.tt/TRhWlBds
3. Go To Recovery Mode (Hold power + Home + Volume Up Together) and Flash DrKetan_MultiTool_AdvanceV5
4. Now the Multi Tool Window Will Appear
5. Now just Inject Root And Busybox
6. It Will Automatically Remove Knox and After Phone Reboots , You will see Supersu In App Drawer , Dont Open It and Go to play store and Update SuperSu
7. Enjoy
It Will Trigger Your Knox Counter to 1
Your Warranty Will Be Void
Thanks To Dr.ketan
Does this method work for N7105? IF it does, please include the relevant recovery or if not you should change the title so that it reads for N7100 only.
This method will trip your Knox counter.
Therefore you loose your warranty!

Then please add on the OP that dis method wil trip knox trigger. Sum newbies might try this method on their new fones, without knowing.
So basically this method is for those people who dont care bout the warranty or those who hv completed their warranty.

its due to roms you flashed.....or rom problem.....you have to factory reset from your phone .....to fix it

Rooting is not the same as a carrier unlock. Your device will still be locked to ATT.
Can I install custom rom after this?

It sends a tonne of personal information about your device to servers in China and installs its own version of SuperUser which can't be uninstalled.

Please excuse me if this has already been asked but since I'm new to the mxp I wanted to know if I can root this phone using king root or if this is not a good tool to use? Thank you for any suggestions.

Nope... Unless you want a brick. None of the one-click methods will work and there have been instances of bricking.
Rooting is only possible by unlocking the bootloader and flashing a systemless root (SuperSU) manually with TWRP.

Dumb question but do you know if there is anyway to root and unlock from the phone itself? Don't have a computer is why I ask.
