[Q] Market Apps Persistently Unlinked After Root

Sorry if this is in the wrong place. This is the first time I've posted.
I recently rooted my Epic 4g with the instructions here:

and then used the "update.zip method" to fix Clockwork Recovery found in this thread:

Looking back, I suppose that was somewhat redundant, but there is nothing to indicate major system damage to me yet.
However, I am having a rather annoying issue that's causing me a lot of stress. All of my apps have come unlinked from the app market. Titanium Backup's market doctor finds "no recoverable market link" and even after I relink them myself by re-downloading them in the market, they come unlinked in a matter of minutes. It's pretty annoying and I'm eager for a fix.
What would cause this behavior? Did I **** something up in the rooting process? Is there anyone else out there experiencing this? I will be so greatful to anyone who can help me solve this problem.
I'm beginning to regret that I rooted my phone in the first place, which is kind of pathetic. What did I do wrong?

If you are on any rom try reflashing it after wiping system data through clockwork if that doesn't work then try using odin. If the problem still persists your FINAL option is to take it to the sprint store

I unrooted the phone after I ran into big slowdowns in network speed and overall performance while trying to re-download all my apps for the third time and that fixed both my issues.
Thanks for the response, btw. I'm not running any custom ROM, just Stock 2.1.1, but I assume those options could still work, although It would result in having to download my apps agin, wouldn't it? Also, what would I say if I took it to the Sprint store?
The upshot of all this is that I still have clockwork recovery, so last night I made a backup of my non-root image to revert back to if I have the same problem next time I tempt fate and try the root again. That's how it'd work, right?

[Q] Can't get root to restore

I have Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper installed & had done a temp unroot, so I could access Amazon prime content, but now I can't get it to restore the root. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong? And it does say "root su restored" after I push the "restore root" button, but even after 2 device restarts, I'm still unrooted. NEED to get on the regular market!

Could it be because it update the os to 6.2? I don't recall what it was before & it never ASKED me to update it, but idk

I doubt it, it's working fine for me and many others on 6.2.

If you used it to unroot before 6.2, then when 6.2 silently upgraded, it would have undone the rooting and killed your OTA rooting.
6.2 didn't ask anyone. if you had wifi connected, it would download without messages. and at some point it would have rebooted, like for me. Or others said once they turned it off it went ahead and did it.
super one click will reroot it in less than a minute and you should be good until next time they do this.

Thanks! I'd bet that's what happened. It's almost always connected to wifi & I've had it rooted for a couple of weeks. Thanks. Back to super one click....

Ok, so I rerooted, but all of my google services are broken still. Reinstalled the apks, but it refuses to install the googleframework.apk. It's on there, asks me about permissions & then says it won't install. I'm clearly missing a step or something.

wierd issue
When I try to reroot my KF after the 6.2 update it roots the device then attempts to reboot into root... and that is when it fails... it just sits on the kindle fire screen flashing like it is rebooting I let it sit for a few minutes and never fineness, however if I hold down the power it will shutdown and I can start it back up but only half way rooted ... and never finished installing superuser or busybody... any ideas?

Not sure about those issues. Different people reported different problems.
Seems not everyone used the same methods. for me googleframework and market worked perfectly fine afterwards, i didnt need to do anything else.

Once my KF updated to 6.2, I could not restore root through OTA Rootkeeper either. Connected it to my computer, ran SuperOneClick, root was restored and backed up my root once again. I think I needed to reset once to ensure that all of my sideloaded apks still worked.

Well I got it figured out I just did a factory reset and reapplied root and now it is working thanks guys

Verizon G3 VS985 update not asking to download

I didnt see a thread already but my G3 started downloading an update this morning without me accepting or saying anything at all. Obviously with Root and TWRP(Bump) I did not want this. I pulled down the notification bar long pressed on the update download, hit app info, then force stopped the app. I went into Titanium backup, made a backup of System Updates 1_13_10_0 then uninstalled it. I don't know if the download will come back but I don't think so. Also the update was 220ish MB and I have no issues with the phone after uninstalling this. Sorry I didnt get a chance to take a picture of the update since it was almost done lol.

System Updates Frozen
I have the System Updates App frozen in Ti BU. Haven't gotten any hint of an update and I hope it stays that way.

Same thing happened to me it tried installing the update all on its own luckily it said waiting for wifi network to update so I froze the system updates app with titanium back up.

RyanEJ25, I experienced the same thing as you. I have a Verizon LG G3 (vs985), rooted.
Trying to get more info on this system update and what it contains. I don't think it's Android 5.0 lollipop update, but more like a Verizon bug update/improvements.
I tried to run the system update that was downloaded via WIFI, but it failed due to my LG g3 being rooted.
Before I go down the path of backing everything, unrooting and upgrading and then re-rooting, just wanted to make sure the update is worthwhile.

The main thing that threw me off was that USB charge modes have changed. Charge and internet connection are removed from PC connections other than that its general improvements to the keyboard and docs and stuff.

You can temp unroot, take the update, then reroot assuming Verizon didn't load a bullet that kills root.

I'd tend to avoid the update, at least for now, if you want to keep root and twrp. Seems to be a number of people mentioning issues, including trouble reverting to 10b.
I also froze "System updates" with TiBU, going to stay on 10b until things clear up. Freezing that app seems to do the trick.

If you take the update, you can't re-root and you can't roll back.
Some people have maintained root after updating.

5.0 update is being forced on me, help

The 5.0 update is being forced onto me like crazy. Right now I am quite upset at whomever is developing Android, I guess google, not very knowledgable about it. Anyway, it's worse than Microsoft in forcing the update down my throat.
It started with the notification, which I could not get rid of no matter what I tried, but I lived with it. Then, android *insert censor word here* me by downloading the entire update in the background while on mobile data. I'm pretty much now at my limit, and I still have 25 days to go in the billing cycle. And now apparently since it's downloaded, it keeps "refreshing" my notification that the update is downloaded and ready to install, which I am afraid that if I ever need to restart my phone (freeze, etc), it will automatically install it, risking my data.
How can I stop the update?
First, can anyone please tell me how can I find the OS update folder to delete the update that was downloaded? I believe in doing so it will not automatically update if I need to restart my phone.
2nd, is there a way to stop the notification? Basically I want to update my OS when I am ready to 5.0.
Currently running Vanilla OS, 4.4.4

Google officially maintains android.... It's the one who has built lollipop... No. It will keep forcing you.. If you have root.. Check in the root folder for the downloaded OS and erase it.. That should help I think

I just ignore the update messages at every new update. I don't dare do any updates at version .0 until at least the next release and when all apps have been updated as well; who needs the headache. Now if indeed the OS would eventually update itself without my knowledge, that would be very, very troubling as I might not have the most recent nandroid and titanium backups, but that has never happened to me in the past.

Without root, you can press the update notification, tap app info, and the untick show notifications. The problem with this is that you will stop all notifications from google play services. If you get root, than you should install xposed and then install the notify clean module, which will hide the update notification and only the update notification, nothing else.

My problem is now that the update has already been downloaded, and I am afraid that if I will ever need to restart the phone, it will automatically start updating at the next boot.
That is what I did until now, I ignored the update messages, but it somehow got pushed into my phone.

Back up your phone and clean it off. I had 5.0 on my phone for exactly 24 hours before I wiped it and started over. Did not like it at all.

I went from 4.2.2 to 5, no looking back. My Nexus has had a new lease of life. The battery was barely lasting a day and it's now 30% better! No bugs or issues, it's running as smooth as a baby's bottom. Only one of my (free) apps isn't compatible, I can cope with that.

How to disable OTA updates with root?

I have rooted my phone and installed Titanium Backup. What processes do I need to freeze to prevent OTA updates from automatically downloading and installing? I tried the usually keywords, but it seems like the only process that might be an updater is ConfigUpdater. Is that all I need to freeze? Thanks.

I don't think it will automatically download, but you're always going to have the notification telling you an update is available.

So far I've found an option called "Automatic System Updates" in Developer Options, I have turned that off. I guess there's no way to block it from checking for new updates?

I think I've figured out what to block to prevent the update from downloading. I use AdAware to log the DNS requests when the phone is trying to download an update. There where a few URLs, but the one needs to be blocked seems to be redirector.gvt1.com. After blocking this url the OTA update download will pause itself (probably because it can't reach the server). I don't know what other Google services it'll affect, but I've tried downloading an app from Play Store and searching for an address in Google Map, they still work. So I'm going to block that URL for now. I can always temporarily unblock it for certain app updates if they need that redirector url.

Even if I enable Developer Options, there is no option to turn off Automatic Updates.
And it keeps downloading and installing the OTA System Updates. It fails to install, but keeps on doing it again and again.
I don't know how to stop it. The only thing is I disabled it from doing the Update over Mobile Data, and I switched off the Wifi to get some relief.
And am now hunting online for some method to either install the OTA, and go back to Root (or) to Disable OTA Updates permanently...

The solution is even simpler:
There won't be any more monthly QTA updates for this phone anyway, as the company behind the phone went bankrupt and stopped doing updates since February 2020...

Yeah, we knew that, but many people don't use Feb because TWRP doesn't work well with it, so they rolled back to Jan, and that's why the OTA kicks in.

did anyone find a working solution? I tried FOTAkill but it did not work. I also tried editing the build.prop, but i am still seeing the update icon appear after a few hours.

Where did you put Fotakill? Try to put it in /system/priv-app folder

I did try that folder as well, but it's not removing the update. The app also deletes itself upon reboot from /system/app and /system/priv-app

Hmm...that's strange....and you said it's gone after reboot which never happened to me.
Making sure you're using the right version from xda ( and your device is rooted, I assumed)

I did the same exact thing 4 times in a row and it is now persistent through reboots. Try number 2 caused magisk to claim no root after reboot. Very weird.
My wife has the same phone and the exact same setup, it took 3 tries to make hers work. Her phone never lost root.
Neither phone is prompting for updates. Very cool! This is a step in the right direction.
Both phones do show the update available notification icon on the right side of the notch. Should this go away as well? I tried multiple cache/dalvik wipes to no avail.
