[Q] root/unroot

Hello
Let me start with admitting that I'm a newbie, a green one, whatever you want. I've bought my WF, my first smartphone, one week ago, and after a day a was confronted with my first limitation: I can't make access to the cisco vpn that my university uses.
I've started looking on the internet, and my only hope is a program called VPN connection, which needs root access to work. Not only the fact that I couldn't install that specific application, but also the disappointment of a discovery that the open-source OS was in fact closed, made me want to root my phone.
So I again started to do research on the internet, mostly by night, which makes me sit like a zombie in lessons, but I've learned a lot. However, there are still a few questions, which I just can't find the answer for.. So I'm hoping one of you would be so kind to help me out a bit!
- I've come to find out that rooting te WF just changes the read/write access of the root directory. So rooting an sich will not change any of the files or settings, nor the language (Dutch). Is that right, or is there an install of a complete "customized" (English) ROM which make the cellphone look brand new?
- I've done some research on how to unroot the WF (I'm having a 2 year waranty..). I know you can download the original ROMs here (shipped-roms.com/shipped/Buzz/) but first of all, I don't know which one to pick, and second, will there be a Dutch one there? Because I'm not sure that they will accept the statement that my phone is suddenly turned English.
Those are in fact the only two questions I have (for now ). Thanks in advance to help me entering a whole new world!

The Android OS is a linux. And for such OS, there is a user account with UID 0, thats the "root" account, who got all privileges on the system.
If you root your phone, you will give your "user", thats the user that runs the android OS, the ability to gain root privileges. Those are necessary to do administrative changes to the OS, same as on a usual linux OS.
So the root user is able to mount devices in read/write and do other stuff.
Most official Updates are multilanguage and they are official updates from HTC so even on warranty issues there should be no problem with it.

Thank you very much for giving me this explanation! But when you talk about "root your phone", I still have a question. If I root my phone, it will be by the method of Unrevoked (Unrevoked 3.21). I understand that the user now has root privileges, but how is that being accomplished? Do they flash the phone with a new ROM, who has "build-in" extended privileges, or do they really change the privileges of some maps on the ROM that originally came with the phone?
In extend I want to make sure about something: so if I install an original UK ROM from shipped-roms.com, I can just install it with the clockworkmod on my device and do an official update, witch will make my phone dutch again?

I came across this thread hoping for reassurance about not losing warranty in case of unrooting, and I'm joining just to say that Erwin's questions are really accurate, well written and most probably helpful for any other android newbies like me.. so let's answer him/us please!

It will not change any of the settings, I myself had it in dutch too. It will be the same as you shut it down, only thing that has changed is the recovery mode (entered by holding the volume down and press the boot key)

I dont know either which one to pick, but I _DO_ know that if I pick the right one, it will include dutch, together with several others including English.

[Q] Chinese keyboard after restart

Hi guys,
Im facing problem with my x8. After root on 2.1 - every time when I restart x8 its asking me to setup language (and its in chinese language).
Do you know how to stop it? Should I change permission somewhere?

Do you have 2.1 prerooted by propc? It base for this system was android , location: china).
When you start your phone with put sim card system should recognize what is your language and system should never again ask about it

I have the same problem. I've rooted my x8 by following the steps in this topic:

After that- everytime i restart my phone- 5-6 apps are installed for no reason!
I've deleted them when i started the phone for the first time.
And that chinese keyboard installs by itself too.

Yes everything works fine .. its rooted with 2.1, JIT, APP2SD - except chinese language (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=892150)

[Q] Omnia2 - Froyo 2.2

Hi,
After installing android (2.2) on my Omnia2 i noted the following problems:
- Does not recognize my SDCARD
- Does not recharge the battery
- Wifi malfunctions
- When trying to download from Android Market always says not enough space when in fact I have 2GB of internal storage available.
Anyone know how to get around some of these problems? tks

hello everyone,
android after I installed 2.2, my phone began to no longer receive calls and then I saw that your IMEI was reset in android, reboot the phone and the imei in WM, was 000000000000000, how do I get my phone, got it since December 2009.
I can not do without this device, I got hooked on it, kkkkk

[Q] Lenovo Lepad S1 Y1011 - leaked rom

Hello,
my borther brougt me this tablet from china for chrismas: Lenovo Lepad y1011 (sry can't send a link becaus i'm a new user...)
But Lenovo has changed everything on android and they call it OS 2.0 (= Android 2.2 )
Maybe someone found a solution to update the OS to honeycomb or to install CWM?
I have read so mutch chinese forms but the googletranslator didn't find something usefull for me.
I hope someone of you may help me.

hi, the thinkpad tablet never came with anything lower than 3.1, also that isn't a valid model number for this tablet.
I think you must have something other than a thinkpad tablet

Yes i know this thread! But its just about rooting and installing google maps and the market... but the market in this thread isn't working anymore! i think the version is to old...

Unfortunately, it's said that Lenovo has no any upgrade plan for this pad. LePad S1(Y1011) is the first mode of pad from Lenovo. the product, particularly its deep customized OS, is in very low maturity. short after its released to the market, it's ended production and replaced by A1 series pad. that's the situation, so disappointed, and angry. and finally, its ROM leaked.
i searched some Chinese forum and got the following leaked ROM:

This files are working! While I tried to install Gapps i bricked my Y1011 and i was able to reflash everything by using fastboot and LePad S1 Ver_3G ROM.

hi i have the same tablet and really heavy problems. i look at all chinese forums with google translation and it is horrible to find anything about a working custom firmware.
if you instal the upper firmware it will be nice to tell us something about the changes. when i want to download i didnt work download allways stopp. the name is the same like the orriginal number.
im loking for a stable full android version. im read that there is a chinese caled chita he costum firmware for the lephone and the lephone works normal withe leos like the lepad.
so if anybody knew news about the lepad y1011 it wil be nice to write it here.

I worked with Costum Rom for my Archos Tablet and for HTC sensation xl but i m not god enough to custom a own one.
But i got Market place working without Gaaps. I have some mistakes with 492 but only by a few apps.

I have got market work with some mistakes on some files got mistake 492 if you find the APK on other Place the most will work but not with autoupdate.
Some Games will not work bcause the OS2.0.0 The Hardware is god enough
So here are how to do it
Install LeTools on Windows 7 PC. it is assumed that LenovoStore on your Lepad is already connected usin wifi.
Connect USB cable with Windows 7 PC
unzip attached file to your PC.
1. Copy all attached files to your LePad using LeTools in any known directory.
2. Use LePad filemanager and click on z4root.apk and install it. Its icon will appear on last Desktop
3. Use LePad file manager and click on Root_Explorer.apk and install it. Its icon will appear on last Desktop
4. Click on Z4root icon to run it. select temporary root permission
5. Click on Root_Explorer icon. It may say that it needs a restart to gain root access. so re run.
6. Now little hardwork. Find the folder where you copied the files. You have to copy following files to the folder /system/app
a. Vending.apk
b. Network location.apk
c. Market updater.apk
d. talk.apk
e. googleServicesFramework.apk
f. googlePartnerSetup.apk
7. Touch the file name and hold for a second, menu will appear. Select copy and go on top of listed files where .. is there for going to previous directory. keep going back till you reach the root folder.
8. Go to folder /system/app and touch the copy button at bottom of LePad screen.
9. Repeat the process for all above files.
10. Change the permissions on each copied file by touching the file name and holding for a second, from menu selecting permissions.
Select permissions as follows
User - Read and write
Group - Read
Others - Read
11. Now shutdown the LePad and then Power On.
12. Use file Manager and go to folder where you initially copied the files. Touch the Vending.apk to install it.
13. Now you should have Google market icon on Last Desktop.
14. All the best. You are needed to have a gmail account to use Google market.
I will look were i can Upload the files. If you start and stop the market it will automatik update to the 4.3.3

Galaxy s10+ no update

Hi everyone,
I live in Albania and about 1 month ago bought my S10+. It has been more than 3 years since my last Samsung phone and apparently the phone I bought is US model. Firstly I thought that is pretty cool since I got the Snapdragon version and it seems it performs better than the European version. However recently I started to research a bit on the reason why I have never received any update (firmware was 1 February 2019). Long story short, through browsing the internet I learned that you can install update.zip directly from pc through CMD. Yesterday I updated the phone 6 or 7 times, however when i was trying to update from G975USQS2BSI4 to G975USQU2ZSJ8 through ADB, I keep geting an error in CMD: "Total xfer: 0.00x" and on phone: "Unable to open syfs usb node (No such file or directory). Trying configfs Failed to open configfs node (Permission denied)"
Can anybody help with this? Would it help if I try to install this through SD card (I do not have any available at the moment)?

Build ZSJ8 is the android 10 beta, just fyi. If thats what your intending to do you need to place the file on an external sd card and update from recovery. All betas can only be installed from the sd card if it isn't a normal ota.
