[Q] Please nexus 4 shutdown. battery issue or unfixable cm11 problem??? - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

please if someone see this. is it possible that the red light of death battery issue happened with 46 percent battery like 1 minute before. i was tweeting something and then it froze. i tried to press the home button and nothing happened. then it shut off and i haven't been able to put it into recovery mode or receive any feedback at all other than the red light of death. but i clearly remember checking the battery life like a minute before and saw that i had the 46 percent battery. is this defiantly the battery issue or could it be a software issue. im running stock cm 11 with the stock kernel. and whenever i try the thing where i hold the power button and volume down for a while then plug in the red light is either beeping on or off or just plain solid red.
would this fix it for sure? :http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/final-fix-nexus-4-red-light-death-t2250454
please someone read this whole thing and help me fix this. i need to know if i can fix it or i need a new phone.

My Desire Z wont turn on... [HELP]

Hey
Usually I dont use caps in titles or "help" "urgent" etc but something has happpened to my Desire Z and now it just wont turn on.
Basically I left it charging with the green led on and when I went somewhere I noticed that the green led wasnt on but I supposed that it was actually blinking notifing me of some notification so I didnt even look. When I got to my destination, I went to turn it on and usual way a press of the power button. The screen didnt light up. I supposed it was some kernel panic or something so I simply took out the battery and put it back in and pressed the power button to turn on. This is when I started to worry: It didnt turn on. I again took it out and in and still nothing. Only at ONE point did it show the white HTC logo booting then it went black again and still nothing.
I came back home and plugged it into the charger, another fear: No LED at all. Im trying it with and without the battery and it seems like nothing. Seems dead.
Is there any other test I can do or something? Im worried about it....
Also, it is rooted so if I return it, I have the warranty problem of not serving rooted devices. And I cant unroot it since it wont turn on.
Please some help
Thanks!
After about 30 minutes without the batter inside, I reinstered it and it was plugged into the charger and orange LED went up I turned it on and it turned on
Relieved but....I do want to know the reason behind this just in case next time....My warranty expires May 5 so.....
On that last note, should I unroot it and return it just to get a refund? Scared something like this may rehappen.
By default, on a nightly, it was on the interactive governor when it has always been on ondamand. After reading a description, Ive changed it to ondamand just in case...
No one answered cause this is really common and you would have found hundreds of these threads if you had searched.
Next time it happens:
Take the battery out
Wait 5mins (not 5 seconds)
put battery in
hold the power button for a few seconds
plug in the charger after the screen has light up (NOT BEFORE)!)
Phone will boot and be charging
If that doesn't work, try again but leave the battery out for 30mins.
If that doesn't work you need a new battery.

Even though it is common, why does this happen?
The technical details behind it always help resolve a problem in the future.

[Q] nexus 7 suddenly auto turn off

hi all, today when my nexus 7 left around 15% battery, it showed the warning sign to ask me charge it, so i thought of finish download 1 small apps before charging it. just before i hit the install button, the screen suddenly turn off and whole device was power off.
i tried to on it back (press for 30sec) but no use. so i go and charge it, after trying many times, i finally managed to on it back, but just after few minutes, the screen appear many lines ( just like those old tvs) and it turn off again...then, i tried many times only i managed to on it back.
after that, i continue to leave it there to charge. but after almost 4 hrs( and still counting), the battery only 45%.
wat had happen to my nexus 7? previously i had no such issues, and normally i can fully charge it within 3 hrs. i just got it for 1 week, can anyone tell me what happened? will it damaged my device?
thanks.
no people facing same issue as me?
hey there, im facing the exact same issue and symptoms as you!
the sudden off, the old screen tv effect and shuts down again.
a battery logo appeared though and im leaving it to charge now. strangely it was showing 18%
im running cm10, what about you?
I've had the same issue for first 2 times I charged the Nexus, then it went away. Seems to be battery related, faulty battery?
Same thing happens to me as well. Happened on stock 4.1.2 and happens on stock 4.2 as well. I never try to let it reach below 20%, just to be on the safe side.
Me too!

It happens to me too
Not sure if it's battery related but it happened twice and this is what my battery graph looks like.
Anybody with more info?
I am also on CM10 using setCPU app to control CPU speed when the power is low.
There is one other thread talking about this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=34878700#post34878700
I placed my info there too.
Edit: It's actually happened the last 3 days now ... I'm going to exchange it today.
I get a message "shutting down, low battery" I used to get message telling me to connect to charger. Before I could finish what I was doing now I have no choice. Seems to happen after update 4.3
fix
somehow the battery calibration is out. only fox is to leave it charging for about 20 mins before trying to turn it on. as by then only will the 'x' logo appear. OR if you cant wait popout the back cover, remove/unplug the battery it works. another longer fix is to. turn in back on after it is able to, go to battery settings refresh it, plgg and unplug your charger. the shutdown logo should appear again and when you look to the top, the battery % will revert to its correct amount of 0% try to do this as soon as it is able to be turned on.

Problems while charging the phone

Hey guys, i got a problem with my N4 :
When i plug-in the charger, the battery icon appears, after few cycles of the battery icon the screen turns off and if i turn on the screen again, the phone turns off and the red led start blinking.
I recently tried to fix the "red light of death" issue that i had ( i removed the battery connector and then put it in again ).
Also, if I hold power + down volume, the n4 starts but turn off after showing the "Google" logo.
I believe its a software problem but i dont know neither which one it i nor how to fix it.
I'm sry for my english and i hope someone will help me
Thanks.
That sounds more like a hardware issue. You can try flashing the stock images, but I'm guessing you're in need of an RMA.
One last thing, when i go to fastboot ( holding power + down volume ), as soon as i reach the menu the phone instantly boot without me telling him to do so. Thats why i think theres something wrong with the software.
Any last moment idea before i sent my phone to RMA ?

[Q] Blinking red led, no boot when plugged in

Hi all,
My Nexus 4 just shut down after going really hot. I cannot turn it on anymore, when I press the On/Off button with our without the volume buttons nothing happens, except if it is plugged in.
In that case, after about 15 sec I have a blinking red led.
I think the problem is material, but I don't know if the problem comes from the battery or something else. I don't want to buy a new battery if my Nexus 4 is dead... So I am trying to figure out if the problem is about the battery or not. I think not because even when plugged in, nothing shows on the screen when I try to turn it on.
What do you think ?
Thanks very much for your help,
Guillaume.

When you get the blinking red led while on the charger, how many time does it flashes ?
Is it the same as this:
"
By red flashing light, I mean: Hold power for 12 secs with good charger connected gives flashing red light: one short, pause circa 2 sec, 11 flashes at one per sec, pause under 1/4 sec, one short dim flash, pause c. 2 sec, repeat. This is the notification LED directly above the USB socket.
"

Hi cxda48,
I have the exact same behaviour : 11 flashes, a short pause followed with one short flash, then repeat.
You have an idea of what it means ?
Thanks !
I had a similar problem. The phone will not start and when you put the red light blinking loaded several times. My Solving: I opened the phone and pulled the battery pins. I connected the battery and the phone started normally.

*similar* but not the same I guess.
It seems like the IC that turns on and off the LED is the PMIC ("Power Management Integrated Circuit"). When something goes wrong, this IC has got some intelligence to give out some information about what is wrong (a bit like the bios on a PC). So 11 red LED flashes is an error code I guess. When the battery is disconnected it's 1 red LED flash (that error code probably means battery not present/worng) in my experience.
I know at least that with the 11 flashes issue, changing / reconnecting a charged battery does not solve this issue
Would anyone have information about what these codes mean ?
this just happened to me. Any solutions?

I thought I should give some feedback on how I sorted out this problem:
After discussion with google after-sales, I sent it for repair to the official LG repair contractor in the UK (SBE Ltd, based in Ashford, UK).
I precisely chose to go through LG repair rather than google because google warned me they would replace the nexus4 so I would
1) loose my data
2) get a potentially worse phone(refurbished) than mine (which is really mint with outstanding battery life)
I sent the phone with instructions on what I think needed done : replacement of the PMIC and *not* a swap of motherboard. When the nexus4 was back, I noticed they ignored my message & swapped the motherboard .
They kept my housing but they also swapped the battery(was not required) and now the battery life is very poor ! I am still in communication with LG regarding the battery issue

sorry here http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-4/general/final-fix-nexus-4-red-light-death-t2250454
and i havent done anything thats made a difference.
i have dont the recommended fix where i hold the power and volume for 60 seconds and plug in but no help whatsoever.
whenever i hold the power and volume buttons nothing happens.
but if i hold them and plug the phone in to charge then the red light is either flashing or solid red. it varies.
this leads me to believe its a battery issue since it only happens when i put it in to charge.
BUT im also worried its a cm11 problem because it shut down randomly. if it helps i have stock cm11 and the stock kernel. cm11 m7 i think. no nightly
The only way to fix this 'red light of death' is to screw off your phone, pull the batterie out for some time and screw it on again. This is the only possible way, if volume down+power button+plug on charger doesnt work.
