Very Odd Bug - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Every once in awhile my Nexus 10 will instantly power off without giving any visible warning. The only way I'm able to boot it back up is if its plugged into the charger as for some reason it thinks its completely out of battery. This will happen randomly even when I have over half a charge remaining. It just did this a few minutes ago and before it shut off I was around 40% battery or at least that's what was displayed in the notification bar.
Any ideas what the culprit is? Yes I'm rooted but this has happened on several different roms.
Thanks in advance!

I have this exact same problem on a non-rooted Nexus 10. Started happening around 2-3 months ago. I just ordered and received a new battery, but I'm wondering if I should install it or send it back. Does anyone have any ideas about why this might be happening? I go from 35-40% battery to zero instantly and the tablet shuts down.

Makes three of us. I am running Paranoid Android 4.43 with Franco's kernel.

Yup, worked fine from release until about a month ago. Happened twice so far, and I have to use my N5 charger to get it going. Anybody have any success getting it repaired by Samsung?

Hi,
I've had this issue recently, but mine was with 20%. For me was just a battery badly calibrated, try charging it fully twice while turned off and discharging fully as well. Don't know why, but worked for me .

I had the same problem over a year ago, only fix was the battery being replaced.

Your average uptimes

Just curious. What are you guys/girls getting for averages on system uptimes? Today ended my first uptime test with EC05. 113hrs. Just shy of 5 straight days without forced reboot(battery pull). I had put the phone down at work to take a leak came back to the boot animation on an infinite loop.

Good topic. That (5 days) has been around my maximum too, sometimes much less (daily even) because Roam Control sometimes makes my cell radio go into a suspended state only a reboot will cure; at least it used to. Now with Froyo EC05, it's not a problem so much, but I can still get weird little performance degradations which only rebooting fixes. It's still light years better than my old POS WinMo phone which was lucky if it didn't get restarted 2x a day.
**** I've gone weeks without issues. The only time my phone gets powered down is when I flash something

i average 10 to 13 hours up, but i do pull my battery every day. i use an extrenal charger, so instead of charging the phone, i just swap batteries once a day.
my only issue i have with this is that every time i switch batteries, it says the date and time is dec31 6pm for about 10 seconds while its looking for the network, so it almost always says that date as the last time i had a fully charged battery in my batt stats.
Its hard to say. I think I install an updated rom/kernel about once a week which means boot into clockwork and a big backup. Not too good for judging uptime.

+1, device runs & runs, only powerdown to flash.

I think the highest I saw was 17 days, but I never really actively looked/timed it, I just happened to notice it at 17 once and made a note of it.
I've only ever rebooted for updates or back when I had the infinite sending problem. A day or two ago I found the new Bonsai is crashing my email hard requiring reboot, so unless I feel like wiping my data to go back to stock, the reboots may become more frequent.
No more then 24 hours for about 90% of the time the past month.

Roughly 20-28 hours, I do the same thing, 2 batteries, external charger, shutdown my phone daily. I can't remember the last time I have had my phone plugged into a charger.

Battery suddenly drained completely

Before I left the house to go to work, my 10.1 Tab (Google I/O Limited Edition, rooted with 3.1) was at around 80%. I get home 9 hours later and the battery is completely drained. I plugged it in to the charger and turned it back on to see the battery at 1%. That just doesn't seem right to me. I can usually go about 2 days without putting it on the charger.
I've attached an image of the Battery Use graph, you can see it just drops like a cliff for no apparent reason. Has this happened to anybody else? Also, I just noticed that the time it was off (approximately 9 hours) is missing from the graph, so it only shows just under 5 hours.
I had the same issue last night. It had ~40% battery left when I went to sleep last night and this morning it wouldn't turn on, so I plugged in the charger and found the battery drained completely.
Interesting that it happened for you the same night. For me, it seemed to have happened around 5-6pm Pacific time on June 23. I don't know the exact time because I didn't have it with me at the time.
Happened the same to me a couple of weeks ago.
Battery was at 40% and overnight went to 0% and the tablet turned off.
Very weird
Came home to find mine with the screen on but completely black so you could BARELY tell it was on. Had to reboot as it wouldn't respond. When it did I only had 20% charge. I had unplugged it about 5 hrs earlier and left it with about 95% charge. Only happened once though so I haven't worried too much, maybe a similar issue though

If I had to hazard a guess.. it would probably have been a runaway process in the background somewhere that totally drained the battery. If it was the battery itself losing a charge like that, I would be worried.... When batteries discharge like that for no reason, they can actually explode... (it is rare, but possible..not trying to cause a panic).

Wouldn't a runaway process drain the battery slowly over time? This seems to have happened instantly.
I really hope i dont find mine doing this... If I watched a laptop do it I would say the battery was shot. Now that its been charged does it hold a charge just as good as it was prior?
Im jealous you got the google I/O tab, was trying to get one on ebay but to hell with spending all that money for an army of androids you wil never see in a case. I heard they were giving them away for free @ the conference...
Happens tome as well
COUPLE of days ago sentries sleep and woke up to a dead tab
Before I went to bed I had at least 50 perent charge
well , twice in 5days usage .... there is a problem ..... weird

I have had my tab 3 days unrooted. I left it last night at 85% and came home several hours later with the battery totally drained.
Will wait and see. Mine boot, battery 44%, not sure a wall charge in 30 some minutes can charge this much. Battery usage found no clues, no sign of sudden drop......
Yep just happened to me Also. This is a real problem.
first to make sure these power saving settigs are alright ,especially gps which will be turned on by so many location iasking apps.
i originally thought it happened twice on me . now i got to. say the first time my gps is on ,second time , the 10.1 looks no response /dead , but press power burton longer, it will be back in desktop without boot, kind of like hibernation on pc ......maybe after a quite long time no activity, 10.1 manage to hibernate itself .....just guessing

i just had this happen to my 7" gt. never happened before.
Maps, for some reason, has been quite active even though I haven't used it in a while. I am not logged in to Latitude or anything so I don't know what gives. Also, CNN and USA Today apps seem to consistently get active on 1-5 hour intervals even though I disabled Notifications, etc. Anyone knows the reasoning?!
Last night I was browsing the web at about 30% battery, when my tab just clicked off out of nowhere. I wasn't able to turn it back on until I'd plugged it in. Once I got it back on it showed 1% battery.
Very weird...
battery issue
So last night im surfing the web battery is about 65% suddenly the remove charger battery full message pops up and the indicator says i have %100 full? I hadnt charged it in 4 hours.

Maybe if there's dead short and the pack isn't fused. Otherwise I call BS.

Battery level display bug?

A quick update on a weird bug I encountered in the N4 yesterday. I was outside and got home with my battery at around 50%. I plugged the phone in and look away for a couple of minutes and when I looked back at the phone and the battery was at 100%(!).
I knew this couldn't be right so I checked the battery graph and it showed a steep jump from 50 to 100 in a matter of minutes. I did a phone restart and the battery was back to the correct level and went back to charging normally. Unfortunately I forgot to screenshot the battery graph and after the reset the graph was reset as well.
Could this bug be one of the reasons why certain users are reporting very bad battery lives on the N4? I can imagine that if I had not been paying attention with the charging and just took the phone out to use later, the battery would have seemed to drop very quickly. How commonly could it happen even; has anyone else seen it?
This happened to me last night. I plugged it in to charge and it said the battery was at 100

This happened to me only once. I jumped from 1% to 100% in a minute I was like no way this thing charges that fast lol

Does seem like it is a common problem then. Better keep an eye out on the battery when charging it.

Add me to the list, a reboot after I observed the nano second charge to full capacity didn't even make it display properly. I didn't try a hard reboot however.
Not selling my GN just yet.

Does this sound like a dead battery?

My N4 started to have battery issues after the kitkat update lasting no longer than 6 hours even turned off. It also started to take longer to charge and gradually this got worse and now all I get is a red light when plugged in but I can't turn it on now.
I guess my battery is stuffed, but could it be that the upgrade did this or (I hope) it was just a coincidence.
I've ordered a new battery and tools but I would appreciate your thoughts on this.

It has been written that the battery shouldn't be run down past 15%. I don't know this for a fact, but that could be one of the issues. Another issue would be an app that is constantly running, but there's no way to find out if you can't boot the phone.
As far as the upgrade is concerned, it's iffy at best because a lot of people have upgraded with no problems.

Too me, I bought my 2 days ago, my battery is draining too much fast than should be, I think this 4.4.2 have something bugged that start to drain all the battery, only with screen awake after 3 hours my battery is 30% only with browser and menu s...
Try go to 4.3 again and then you see if is the battery or the rom...

98% deep sleep but 48% battery drain? What gives!

I charged my phone for a little bit last night because it was a little low (48%). I took it off at about 77%. I don't understand what happened. Why did it just drop like a rock? Phone is AT&T LG g2, stock 4.2.2 rooted.
Jesus that can't be good.
I have no clue about this one; it's just too weird.
I'd probably let it fully deplete and then completely charge it and see if it ever does it again.

That's what I'm going to do. Unfortunately this is not the first time it has happened. This happened about 2 weeks ago, but then my GSAM showed a HUGE signal decrease at the same time my battery drained, so I figured it was just that.
This time I just do not understand. I've had this phone since August or September and it's been great until this randomly started happening in the past couple weeks.

Well it says 66% of that was phone radio signal. So that is the problem 90%. I had similat problem only it was while charging, so my phone wasnt charging almost at all, when i restarted it was charging fine (from 20% to 100% in 90 min) . What happened when u picked it up, was it still doing that? Or maybe its a some kind of cpu loop if that is even possible. Some people was complaining about nexus 5 rapidly discharging with combo of some lite apps (news readers).

Yes even after picking it up, the drain continued. I've let it die and am charging the phone while it's off but I don't know if the problem will be fixed.
The youtube app was causing a major battery drain for me a few days ago,now I close it after using it just in case . I'm in the habit of checking the phone's temperature at all times :/
it has a great battery life, especially sceen on time, but the standby isn't top notch at all, I think it's poor software optimization on LG's end, I hope 4.4.2 fixes it.
charge till full. then reboot and check battery percentage.
