Better PM the Xote dev for an automated non-aroma rom, if he has the time and is willing to.

There are some tutorials in the AT&T thread. Basically, you move the apps you want from the Aroma locations into the system/app folder and replace the META-INF folder with one from a non-aroma ROM. As long as you don't share it out, I don't think anyone will have a problem with it...If you're not comfortable doing that, it might be better to ask as stated above me.
The easiest way is to basically remove the meta-inf folder and replace it with a stock one without aroma. Then open up updater-script and make sure everything is in the correct places that is listed in the script. Usually, make sure you move the kernel you where the script file says (it's usually the root of the zip). You can then remove whatever folder the Rom dev used for aroma, sometimes it's extras, apps, etc. Then rezip and try flashing it.

Oh and make sure you move everything from the last step back into its appropriate place in the system folder before you remove that folder. For example, if the dialer is on that other folder, make sure to move it back to system/priv-app or the dialer will not be installed and you will have a bunch of issues on boot.

Just take one out of any Rom for your device that doesn't have aroma. Just make sure it's from your device to make sure the wipe paths and kernel paths are correct.
Just the info that I was looking for thanks

Okay. First i'm a newbie so I dont know anything about this.
Can you please tell how/where to open the rom to go to META-INF and rename the update-binary?
Am I going to extract the downloaded custom rom to my PC then locate the folder?
Can you elaborate more the guidelines. What are the requirements needed to install the aroma installer?
Am I going to do these steps to my phone or PC?
I am sorry, newbie. Please help. Thank you.

My phone is Sony Xperia Arc S running in Official ICS update.
Not yet rooted. Bootloader not yet unlocked. Planning to root and to unlock.
Is this aroma installer works to rooted phone but not bootloader unlocked? or not rooted but bootloader unlocked?
I am planning to use this to install this custom rom Zelly Cream V3.
This will be my first time to flash this rom to my phone.
Do I have to flash kernel after I rooted and unlocked my bootloader? And what kernel is advisable with cwm recovery?
Please help me. Thank you.

update-binary – It was AROMA Installer Executable, the compiled program wrote by me in C, and it was the program that show User Interface.
update-binary-installer – It was old update-binary (renamed to update-binary-installer), will be runs on Installer UI when the installer need to flash/install/extract files from zip to the phone.
I'm a new developer and have applied all my tweaks and edits via root explorer so far. is there a way to change a CWM backup into a flashable rom file for other users to flash? I searched around a bit, but couldn't seem to find anything about it.
Goto this thread here
follow all the setup to install cygwin & kitchen
once it's all setup you can plug your phone in and create a rom
follow the guide (second method) for creating the rom system files by extracting the system folders from your phone (rom you are using)
you can then turn it into a flashable rom zip
I think you just basically extract the CWM backup, then repackage them in 1 zip file (except for the androidsecure backup).

YOU CAN USE THE CWM BACKUP IN KITCHEN YO MAKE A CUSTOM ROM.BUT YOU CAN'T ABLE TO USE THE BACKUP FILE DIRECTLY AS A CUSTOM ROM.
OTHER HAND YOU CAN MAKE ALSO THIS BACKUP AS A DEODEXED STOCK ROM BY DEODEXING THIS BACKUP FILES.

Hmm thats how i make roms that i dont post here though....
In tthe cwm backup u have system.rfs.tar
Extract it using 7zip
U get system.img or u might get a system folder....
Extract the img file using Magic Iso
Open magic iso
In menu..
File>open
Select ur system.img
On the left side pane right click on the disk icon and click extract.select ur destination
Once the files are all extracted copy all of them in a folder named "system"
Now get a meta-inf folder from a custom rom and zip
Meta-Inf and system folder together
U have ur rom...
Ill create a video tutorial for this tomorrow as many people ask this question in different threads of devices....

In the MM_beta system.img, sony adopts symlinks for .odex files ranther than real .odex files, so moving every .odex file to its right place is a boring job. thus, i wrote a simple script which will help u to move these stupid .odex files.
PS: it's a .bat file, so pls run it in windows
Code:
@echo off
set outloc=D:\Z2_MM\system\app\
set loc=\oat\arm\
For /r %%i in (*.odex) DO (
echo %%~ni
copy "%%i" %outloc%%%~ni%loc%
)
pause
Steps (example: moving .odex files to '***\system\app\'):
1. put the 'copy.bat' in the '***\arm\' folder with lots of .odex files which we have just generated
2. edit it with any textediter and change the 'outloc' value to your '***\system\app\' location (do not forget the '\' in the end)
3. run it (no worries if you run it twice by mistake).
for '***\system\priv-app\' floder, just do the simliar steps again
for '***\system\framework\' floder, just copy manaully (do care the 'SemcGenericUxpRes.odex').
Download: copy.bat
Amazing! I did it manually and took 3 hours...

because these odex files are all in the same folder which is ***\system\framework\oat\arm\
I would recommend at the end remove odex sqsh mounts, reboot, verify it works and delete sqsh files otherwise you are wasting space in system partition.

If the rom has .SQSH files and you want to deodex it, yes. I'm in the middle of writing an automated deodexer and it certainly looks like you definitely need to use the files in the SQSH files or you'll get a bootloop every time.

You can either copy the .odex files to the respective app arm folders replacing the links there, or copy all .odex to the folder that represents the mount point for squashfs and keep links in arm folders.
Hello,
Can anyone guide me how to modify/repack touchwiz custom roms, published on XDA?
There are two files to read, read and read again until you have practically all answers about the structure of a custom rom :
1- updater-script
2- aroma-config
Both located in "/META-INF/com/google/android" in the rom's zip.
This will be a good start.
Make no sense!
There are tools which take care of META-INF files, why bother?
Information here on developing .>> XDA-University

You can open a rom zip in win rar and modify add or delete then close .
Do not extract .
you are wright, use these tools.
I use 7zip (FOSS) and did same only to get error during flash. Obviously because meta files are not edited. Can those error be ignored?

Generally, if it's 6.0.1 and rooted systemlessly, you need to replace boot.img with a stock one and remove SuperSU app from system.img.
This ROM intended to be flashed from TWRP, so it's an ext4 image.
You can mount it to a linux system on your PC and remove anything you want.
I havent done anything like this before. Could u give me some links or guides? My PC is running Windows 10.

Ok, here' a simpler way:
1. Make changes on one phone.
2. Make a TWRP backup of boot and system partitions.
3. Restore this backup on other phones. They must have TWRP installed, a 6.0.1 bootloader and modem.
You'll have to rename backup's folder path and to wipe cache/data/system before restore.
can i use winrar to extract & compile the rom, without linux? So that i will have a much faster flashing process for all other units..

Ok, I've managed to download that ROM at last.
The things look even simpler.
To prepare an "unrooted" ROM:
1. Download the zip form this post and unpack updater-script somewhere.
2. Make a copy of V3.G900F.STOCK.FOR.SCL23.FULL.MINHQUAN.zip, open it with Windows Explorer and replace V3.G900F.STOCK.FOR.SCL23.FULL.MINHQUAN.zip\META-INF\com\google\android\updater-script with the file you've unpacked from the attachment.
3. Try to flash ans see if it's what you need.
thx so much, already passed all units to the buyer. ill try that on next batch restock, may iknow if there's a way to get the service menu shortcode *#0*# to work again? This rom doesn't has the service menu.
