Import The Data From The Web Server To Your Calendar - Java for Android App Development

I want to create a class schedule app for my school, I want my app to be able to fetch the schedule of the user from my web server to the device, luckily I have an idea on how to do this, the problem is I want the app to have the "Add Schedule" button so that the user no longer have to input the schedule one by one on the default calendar. I really don't have any idea on where and how to start this kind of feature. I will appreciate any kind of help or comments. Thank you and have a good day!

Can anyone help me with this?

Well, saw this for a while ago, but kind of lost the use of it since the web-version of facebook does everything a user needs... So, why re-invent the wheel unless someone has a good idéa?
Something to sync the calendar on Facebook with the calendar on your WM phone? Or the contacts? Or upload all the images from your phone.
(Admittedly it would be fine just to sync them with outlook or an Exchange server, but not everyone uses those POS systems....).
Anyone got any other ideas?
im also loooking forward for a Windows app as i cant stay w/o fb for a long time

Hmm... might be a good idea - Anyone else who is interested in the topics mentioned above?
Don't have alot of time right now since the exam-periode is comming, but if I have time I might fix atleast the calendar and contact application But I'll post a reply in the thread if I'm up to it
Hey-
I was thinking of an idea but couldnt even begin to code it.
Something along the lines of full contact list integration. As in complete synching of contacts in phone with birthdays, addresses, etc. Complete integration with a contact manager so that you can view someones pics, write on their wall, etc without a browser, almost as if the data were stored in your phone. SMS like wall posts and messages and calendar synching. If anyone likes this idea and would like to work with me on it, I would be willing to make a photoshot mockup of what I am imagining to better get my point acreoo, but I think full and seamless browser-less integration would be amazing!
i use the Fonebook application to sync with outlook but I think a facebook program would be a great addition like adding events to my calendar, syncing photos with outlook, birthdays and whatever else. I think the mobile facebook experience would be improved with a program.

WOW...is no one making a facebook app? It would seriously be the icing on the cake for WM. Someone contact me, and we can work on it together!
there is one i found called snap2face which allows you to browse pictures and save them to your device. its pretty basic and definitely needs some tweaking to speed up load times but for a beta its not too bad.
Bump....
So im working on something but it would really be nice if someone wanted to work on it with me. I think there is a lot of potential here.
any progress on this?

Marking email as read in HTC email reader

Hello,
First post here - what a great resource this is and what a great device the HD2 is. One small frustration is that when I read email in the HTC software then it isn't marked as read until I open it in the standard windows email viewer. Is there a way to make this happen?
Thanks,
James
Yeah this is annoying me too!
Alternatively - is there a way of configuring the HD2 so when the email icon is pressed then it launches the underlying Outlook tool rather than the HTC one. I another route to this end would be to create a shortcut to Outlook on the home page.
Thanks,
James
I dont use outlook to sync my Hd2. So it would be nice with something which resolved this...
Yeah, this bugs me too.
What's the point in HTC going to all those lengths to make a really nice email tab where you can read incoming messages without opening the outlook browser, and then not have a way of marking the messages as read.
It should either be an automatic thing, where viewing an email on the tab marks it as read, or there should be a "mark as read" option in the menu. (God forbid anyone wants a "delete" menu option too!)
A solution to this would be very welcome.

this was bugging me too - happily there is a simple solution which the clever folks here created
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=510621&highlight=mark+all+as+read
just installed it - i now have "mark all as read" as an option in the inbox menu... one of my HD2 niggles just vanished....
edit - just noticed this also adds a "delete all" function too.... with power comes great responsibility.... happily it does ask you to confirm before deleting your entire inbox...
this is a better link to the .cab which fixes it

gmail help

I've successfully got gmail actively synced onto my phone now which is great news. The next step is, figuring out if there's a "search" function for my inbox, much like there is on the gmail website itself. You know, where you can search any term in the engine and it'll pull up all relevant emails. Does such a thing exist on the HD2, if I've got gmail being pushed to it? Also, I've noticed that I'm able to "set flags" on certain emails, which I was hoping to be equivalent to "starring" emails in gmail, but it seems that if I set a flag on my phone, it won't show up as a star on my gmail account. Is there any way to actually achieve this? Thanks for the help guys!
Hi, although you haven't said what ROM you use, On the stock european ROM thee is a Search Phone utility. you can search your email by selecting Messaging (or potentially Outlook Mobile depending on how you have set up your email) as the type and putting the information you are looking for in the "Search for" section. The search string you look for is saved for future searches.
Hope this helps.
Thanks for getting back to me. I'm using the stock rom on my TMOUS device. I have it set up so that I may view my gmails through outlook mobile through activesync. I can't seem to find this "messaging" feature you're talking about though?
Does anybody have any ideas on the "starring" of gmails that I mentioned in my first post?

how do i delete multiple emails in the default email client?

hey guys
i know this might sound a beginners quesiton sorry about that but i cracked my head long enough trying to fix this problem.
so i am using default email client the one that comes with the galaxy s out of the box. i am using pop3 account downloading from my company servers, but now i have 1000+ emails
i want to delete them , how do i do that?
i had a windows mobile phone (touch pro) and it was very simple: CTRL+A - select all and then delete. but here? i have no keyboard, nothing.
please tell me how to delete all emails at once...
cmon guys? no one knows this?
I was actually wondering about it as well.. it looks there isn't a way to do it 0_o
There is a checkbox next to every email. Afraid the only way to do this is to check all the mails you want to delete.
obviously i was looking for a faster way. as i said i have more than 1000 emails, i think i have better ways to spend a whole day than deleting emails )

[Q] what is the best way to implements push notifications in android.

1) Apps User need not have compulsory google Account.
Implement android push notifications without GCM

Your app would need to "handshake" with the server when it was first run, so that the server could get the IP address and any other info it needed. That could be done with a simple HTTP post. (Googling "java http post" came up with a ton of results, but the first one was a Stack Overflow question with a ticked answer that's been upvoted over 100 times. I'd take that as a strong indicator that it's good - http://stackoverflow.com/questions/4205980/java-sending-http-parameters-via-post-method-easily).
After that, you'd need to create a TCP listener in your app and something to send messages to it on the server. Again, a quick Google search came up with a ton of stuff, but this looks concise and useful...
http://systembash.com/content/a-simple-java-tcp-server-and-tcp-client/
I've not done anything like this with Java, so I can't be any more help than give you the principle of it. I've done it in other languages though, and it's all the same thing really.
I hope this helps, and good luck
Edit: I just had a thought - that's all good for people using data, but you'll run into issues when on wifi as you'll only have an external IP address. There's reasons that things like Google Cloud Messaging exist!

GCM is free i think, while the alternatives are not.
For example Parse is not so difficult to program but after exceeding their Free plan you have to pay each month some money . Other similar platforms also exist, like urbanairship
