[Q] Will Towelroot void warranty? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know it probably will, but I've read that it doesn't trip Samsung's root checker, so I wondered if it trips the LG root checker?

Honestly don't know I used towel to root by g2 now its awesome. I once bricked my g2 in January by rooting with a computer and got a replacement I just said it didn't turn on and they gave me a new one (it was rooted) so I'm not really worried if I'm rooted or not

I havent seen an LG ROOT CHECKER. And what you mean with Samsung is that it doesn't strip Knox to 0x1

Only evidence I've found of a phone being rooted is if you throw it in download mode. It then says" rooted" at the bottom in red text. However, flashing back to stock using KDZ or TOT once again return the phone to "unrooted" status

I hope you're not doing it for some kind of warranty reason, because if so you're hosed. Razr M has a root checker. When you get into recovery, you will notice a yellow "qe 0/1" or something like this. It will say "0/1" if the device has been rooted before but isn't now, "1/1" if the device is currently rooted, and "0/0" if the device has never been rooted.
It is impossible to make it say "0/0" after root, so even if you unroot it (trivial, just fastboot back to stock) it will always say that you have rooted it at one point in time, which voids your warranty (and your TOS, depending). Rooting this phone means taking it into your own hands.
Bastards!
What about for replacement devices after the warranty is over? Like if you get the insurance on the phone, does rooting void that too?

Don't quote me on this, and YMMV but the Verizon (Asurion) insurance covered my rooted d2g a few months ago... it should cover the M as well

Would anyone mind linking a verification on this issue? Thinking of getting a RAZR M myself and being able to get abck to stock with a "qe 0/0" in case of a hardware malfunction would be something I would want.
I'm also looking at root and custom roms, and interested in this.
actually in the supersu app ther is an option that says full unroot it is in the settings under clean up and it says full unroot
Can I only unroot my Razr M back to STOCK ICS??? How would I unroot and get JellyBean back? Or can I not get it back?
Btw I prefer the notification bar on ICS versus the new JB one....

Well, the issue is not unrooting; its that Motorola has a root checker in the recovery menu that says whether the phone is rooted, not rooted, or not rooted but was rooted in the past. That last one is the concern....

I had a crazy counter read that was 2:1. I unrooted, flashed to ICS, factory ota to JB and it read 0. That phone is long gone. Had to reflash JB last week on my replacement and now I'm steady at 1:1. So, my guess is you can't. You could on the OG RAZR I believe, but not this updated system. My first M had that reading before the root exploit was available. (2:1)

Help Unrooting (Rooted with motochopper)

Hi Guys,
I rooted my Samsung S4 (GT-9505) using motochopper, but since discovered some of my apps don't work with a rooted device.
I would like to unroot it back to factory settings.
What do I need to do? Is it a case of downloading an official ROM and using ODIN to flash the official bios back on?
I have reset the counter with TRIANGLE but my device status is still 'custom' and not official.
Is there a simple way of removing the root that motochopper adds or is an official ROM the only way?
Im in the UK and would like to flash to the latest Vodafone ROM and unrooted as new.
Many thanks
First of all, there's no app that would stop working because of a rooted device. Rooting just gains you administrator privileges, nothing more, nothing less. And yes, the best way to unroot and get the official status back is to download and flash an official rom through Odin.

Many thanks for your reply,
Unfortunatly your wrong there, Barclays PingIt (my bank account) knows when a phone has been rooted and displays an error page saying its breaching security and stops the app from working!! Crazy I know.
You can uninstall super su then reboot the phone.
You can get instructions from the Exynos Abuse thread by chainfire. It's at the bottom.

Hello there
I found that flixster wouldn't stream ultraviolet movies with root. I did find that using voodoo ota root keeper from play store helps that. Click on temp unroot, then when you've finished using that app that doesn't allow root, restore root. Unsure that this will work for you, but no harm in trying.

I was looking at the guide to root the G2 and it says there is some sort of system that checks if you rooted and voids warranty. Is there a method to reset this similar to Triangle Away for Samsung phones?

Update breaks towelroot on G900F

So I saw an update for "performance improvements" (~200MB) on my rooted 900F. I unrooted and updated. No problem. Once I reboot there is a second update ~1.2MB. I installed that and rebooted, tried to run towelroot and it says device not supported. Tried a few different modstring values including the temp root and none of them work.
Moral of the story; don't update if you want to towelroot.

Hard to say, it doesn't seem much different but I've only had it installed a couple of hours and not used the phone too much yet.
I can tell you, however that it adds more bloat! There is at least one new app I noticed called "My Galaxy"
EDIT: Also, they've changed the animation for fingerprint unlock failure to some horrible alarming flashing red/white thing instead of the subtle one it was before.

I'll wait. The reason I used towel root in the first place was not to trip knox.
It was just a headsup for those who might care more than I do.

Because I'm an software engineer and I know exactly what I'm doing by rooting.
Denying root with this knox and other bull***, locked bootloaders, etc, is totally unacceptable to me.
I refuse to lose warranty for some hardware fault that might occur (and I've had many issues over the years and dozens of phones) on something I own because I got "root" access.
I dare someone to tell me that I've lost warranty on my laptop because I installed CentOS, logged in as root and twiddled with my bootloader.
It's entirely and utterly a matter of principle.
Don't expect you to agree, just helping you to "understand".

Quite simple, when you see the ota, remove ALL changes yiu nade to system (e.g. adblock hosts file)unroot from within SuperSU, then reboot then accept the OTA.
Bare in mind if you do this, there is currently no way to root again without knox trip

Warranty void

Hello guys
THIS IS A QUESTION TO ALL THOSE WHO DONT CARE ABOUT SAMSUNG WARRANTY/ AT&T WARRANTY.
I am aware that attempting to downgrade from kit kat to jellybean will trip Knox counter however I don't care for it. What will be the worst consequence of me doing so. Soft brick? Or hard brick. And if I do succeed will the triped counter prevent me from having a custom recovery.
Tripping the Knox bootloader counter to 0x1 isn't a worry of mine . But a hard brick is so if I can and be able to load custom recovery NOT SAGES TRAP. That be great. I've been rooting/flashing for years now and I never seen such measures of slavery from a company. I never bought a phone with warranty anyways.
Ps: there's no straight answer in searches. All I've gotten is mixed answer I need a straight YES or NO. If yes how.

No, you can't downgrade an ATT I337 from 4.4.2 back to Jelly bean. They locked the boot loader and it is not possible to flash a downgraded kernel. It's not a warranty issue, it's a "there's no way to do it that is known" issue.
Some folks with Canadian phones have reported success (at expense of tripping Knox) but I'm not aware of any way to do it on U.S. ATT phones. And I agree with you, it's ridiculous what ATT/Verizon are doing with these locked boot loaders. Next time, I will buy an unlocked phone...
