[Q] Is there a way to reset the root counter? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I was looking at the guide to root the G2 and it says there is some sort of system that checks if you rooted and voids warranty. Is there a method to reset this similar to Triangle Away for Samsung phones?

Similar method by returning to stock

[Q] A question about rooting and "Root status"

My (noob) question is if I root can I return the device back to stock and will the "Root status" always show rooted and is there a root counter similar to some other devices on board?
According to other threads you can flash back to stock and it currently reads uprooted. Will a future patch change it? Doubt it as I havnt read that it is connected to hardware it's just a software check that doesn't revert back after unrooted. Only if you never have root hence flashing the KDZ file from lg.

So what you are saying it only tells if the device is rooted or not. It will change given the root status( rooted or not) and will not have a record of root/unroot instances. Please correct me if im not understanding this correctly and thanks for your patience.
It will not change back if you unroot but I have read a stock 're flash will put. It unrooted status

Thanks for the help I'll be rooting very soon!

[NOOB] Is it possible to unroot 100 %.

I'm talking about getting unrroted status on the download mode also.
Yes. See this ->http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
this works, but make sure you have the firmware for the correct model number of your phone.
No, in order to unroot fully you must invent a time machine.

I was under the impression that once you root you blow a qfuse. With any fuse once blown there is no changing it since it is a piece of hardware that has changed. Not software.

Just fry the board before warranty

if i'm wrong, i would like to know. I did the procedure that I quoted above and the phone says unrooted on the download screen. d801.
My experience is that the phone displays no trace of having been rooted after performing the full unroot procedure. It says "unrooted" in the download menu.
Here are the steps specifically from Verizon users, with quite a few confirmations of phone returning to full "Unrooted" status.

There's triangle away for other phones but I haven't heard of it for ours, just brick your phone so it won't turn on before returning it

Ways to get back to unrooted status

Is there a way on att lg g2?
Once I root my phone, the warranty is void. I read that once you go back to stock unrooted, somewhere it shows that you've been rooted. Still voiding the warranty.
Is there any way to get by this?

I want to root, but also want to make sure I can unroot safely.
But I do have att protection plan so maybe this doesn't even matter.

I worked for AT&T. No one checks for root. Take my advice with a grain of salt but warranty applies to the manufacturer not the mobile company. You should be alright.
sweet. thanks.
by any chance can i get some direction on how to get a custom recovery loaded? Ive tried a bunch of different ways. I got the ota update on att before i rooted.
thanks for the info

Tried searching but came up short... Is there a way to unroot the Verizon VS980??

still on jb 4.2.2,wait for fota or root+custom recovery?

hi,dont want the long way of returning from 4.4.2 to 4.2.2 but dont really want or decided to root and all that stuff,so i decide to ask you.
what is your opinion?root+twrp+custom rom=void warranty and enjoy more.features and not count on lg or stay with the warranty and the stock 4.4.2 is enough in your opinion?and get fota updates.

Dude, you can do either warranty as seen by LG is when you root and root checker is tripped, but using the lgflashtool resets that. Also they might not even check for root checker trip. I once had a damaged GPU and restored the stock twrp backup, removed root and recovery but did not reflash. They replaced my motherboard anyhow

[Q] Will Towelroot void warranty?

I know it probably will, but I've read that it doesn't trip Samsung's root checker, so I wondered if it trips the LG root checker?

Honestly don't know I used towel to root by g2 now its awesome. I once bricked my g2 in January by rooting with a computer and got a replacement I just said it didn't turn on and they gave me a new one (it was rooted) so I'm not really worried if I'm rooted or not
I havent seen an LG ROOT CHECKER. And what you mean with Samsung is that it doesn't strip Knox to 0x1

Only evidence I've found of a phone being rooted is if you throw it in download mode. It then says" rooted" at the bottom in red text. However, flashing back to stock using KDZ or TOT once again return the phone to "unrooted" status
