Everyone will be able to create apps soon.
Forget the 1 Billion apple apps, Google will get a Gazillion!
http://appinventor.googlelabs.com/about/
I have 6 great ideas (I think) written down ready to go. LOL. Hope I get an email back soon.
I'll give it a try
now we get even more trash in the market.
How to try it??
I don't think the Market can really get any more trashed. At least these apps ought to be well-designed under the hood and won't FC all the time. I'm eager to see what non-devs come up with.
And if this does cause a further flood of "useless" apps into the Market, it'll spur Google to make it easier to filter the Market, I hope.
dont all of you be so quick to judge. I taught myself how to program code..but I still dont know how to program AND make the userinterface. This will be a great tool for me since now I will just have to drag and drop textboxes and butons instead of trying to figure out how to code them into the app. I'm sure I'm not the only one out there like this.
forget making my own app, where can I get that Hellopurr apk!
You have to sign up for the opportunity to get this in the future. You can't just go and download it right now.

Agreed, its painful to create the layout xml by hand. Eclipse and droid-draw help, but AppInventor looks a lot more advanced.
This looks amazing. I hope that we'll be able to edit the underlying java code... That would make a GREAT starting point for lesser coders like me, wanting to get the ball rolling fast on Android, or even with prototyping UIs.
I'd also like to take a crack at this, while my Java is improving I've got much more background in Visual Basic which this seems pretty similar too. Seems like a great learning tool, although I also worry about 10 million TEST.apk's hitting the market. Hopefully someone will get it soon and it will hit the torrents.

Its a web app. The only downloadable part of this is software that lets your android phone communicate with the browser, and thats already available from the website. You need a beta invite to use the actual "inventor"
Someone already got a mail from them?
IMO should have an "experimental" label on them until x amount of downloads and a minimum X amount of stars on them.
It will increase the total number of android apps yet wont flood the market with more garbage.
P.S 80% of apps are trash or repeats. Doesnt matter what the OS is. You dont have 50-200,000 apps and have most of them be quality.

Agree, it's not like Iphone has more useful apps than android...
But this app inventor will definitely encourage more dev to come to android, which is what google needs the most now.

I'd love to try this out and see what happens!
I really dislike this idea, The market already has enough sub par apps when compared to the Apple Appstore, yes the appstore has its fair share but cmon this will allow EVERYONE to submit an app of their own.
Yea the Market will have a "gazillion" apps, how many of those apps will be Great, not many

Lol damn it. It's a pretty nifty idea though.

Still nothing on ARdefender for Android? Would love this game!
So kool.
Sent from my rooted android over9000 x10i using swype on the xda app.
Pretty cool. But even if it did come to Android you could be sure that it would require more then 2.1,,, let alone 1.6!
I read something about a clue style (who done it) game in the works using google maps and/or layers that is multi player.
Take a look at this...

Yeah you know that Google Videos won't work on rooted phones right? So if your rooted there's really no point in installing that. My market updated itself today along with music and books as soon as google launched it. They must love me
I like the new version. Not to keen on the name though.
I'm not a big fan of the name labeling either. I wonder what they were thinking when they thought of this lol.
Got the update as well and I am not digging the new icon

Got the update as well. Didn't see any changes aside from the icon and name. :3

I can't stand the icon or name either. I mean what's the point? I think the older look looked sharper.
From what I was reading, it seems like they're trying to transition us. In which direction who knows. But either way I don't like the name
EDIT: Found a little more info about Google Play HERE

If you use titanium backup to "Integrate the update into the ROM", it will give you the new market with the old icon.
Nice tip thanks

Hello
This is my second app for Android.
Learned a few things since my first app, the visual looks better on this one but of course, there's plenty room for improvements.
Anyway, it's a soundboard with quotes from Star Wars series. If you are a fan like I am, I hope you will enjoy it.
Website: http://sw.thomazi.me
Google Play link! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=guitmz.swsoundboard
Donate version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=guitmz.swsoundboard.donate
Any feedback is appreciated!
V1.02 is attached but I recommend getting it from Play Store for automatic updates.

Fixed! Thanks!
Good effort. I think you need to work on isolating some of the background music.
Also penultimate c3po is broken

You mean like Snapchat? Text over a screenshot or drawing like in MS Paint? Just use a picture editor. Go to the Play Store and search for picture editor and find your favorite one. Dozens of options.

true ,but i was just thinking maybe there was one specifically for screenshots. (like the one in note and huawei mate phones)
but i think there is nothing like that for the nexus xD
i will stick to the editors like you suggested.
thanks for the feedback.

best choice trust me , owned galaxy's (s2/s5 note 4)
jumped to the nexus series in 2015 got nexus 6 loved it up until i noticed it had terrible banding, still used it for about 8 months , recently got the 6p (thankfully no banding) nothing beats stock android on nexus phones.
Screenshot crop and share on play store, just search it, some Roms even have it built in, can write, blur things out, all kinds of stuff
Skitch. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.evernote.skitch

I use keep. I share the screenshot to keep, then write with the pen tool, and then share the note... which is shared as an image. Pretty effective way IMO if you don't want to have any extra apps lying around. You have to tap the share icon twice (one for the screenshot, another one after doodling) but you're gonna have to do that with pretty much every app.

Didn't even think to do this, saves installing another app.. gotta get used to it, but pretty useful.
