[Q] All networks work except Three (UK) Help - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
Starting on EE. I have had my phone (GTI9505) unlocked from a shop and also had a code. The phone is unlocked and works with EVERY other network sim besides Three.
Three shows under my APN settings but all i get is no service then emergency calls only.
this has been happening for about a month now and only once (last night) did it show the network 3 before gong back to emergency calls only
ive tried 3 different three sims (coincidence) none have worked and the same 3 sims work in other phones. Did i mention that all other networks work?
ive tried changing the network mode and pressing automatic search under network operators. when I go to manual all i see is EE, O2 and Vodafone
i rang three to see if they blocked it and they assured me it was not blocked
i am on android 4.4.2, i9505XXUFNC9
How can i enter the service menu so i can have a play around with the settings/radio etc?
anything else i can do/try/flash?

You've probably just got no signal in your area. Three are probably the worst service for coverage. I've had no signal indoors for the best part of a month. Customer services just fob you off with "they are carrying out work in the area", which is not shown on their website. Absolute joke of a network. Soon as my contract is up I'm going back to tesco/O2.

Guys what's the story With the UK O2 3G Availability

Hi. i have just got my Exec, totally happy with it, it's just that i cant get my VIDEO CALLING UP AND RUNNING :-(((
I live in North London, and there is no network coverage. so i thought, maybe that's the area problem. Than, @ Notting Hill , still no coverage, and finally @ oxford street, NOTHING. What the F**K i thought...
I am porting my Number from Orange, and it will take about a week for my Temporary O2 number to become what i had from Orange,
so i thought maybe that is one of the reasons???
May be i have to Activate the service somehow, i have no idea, what am i doing wrong, I even tried to change the Band from Auto to Umts, but that didnt help either.
please share your steps, or sollutions???
cheerzzzzz
Did you receive a new sim with your exec. If you did, you will have to activate that before using 3G. On O2 your video calls will only be charged from your free minutes until 31/03/2006. After that it's 50p per minute!
What with skype and all the other services up & coming I find it hard to believe that they will stick to the pricing. But we shall wait and see.
so how do we activate the 3G then?

Somewhere on O2 website i read that Video calls are charged same rate as voice calls ? isn't true ?
Wow that was a quick reply.
i Was trying to call these guys in the morning, but my 30 min break just wasnt enough
@ the end this idiot told me that my phone is not 3G Compatible. Tat put me off the conversation  and plus i had to go back to work 8)
anyway i think that i will have to wait for my orange number to finally ported and got activated, and hopefully then...

As posted before see link here...
http://flash.o2.co.uk/personal/videocalling.html
Pay Monthly - Until 31 March 2006, video calls from O2 mobiles will be charged at the same rate as equivalent voice calls and will be eligible for inclusion within the monthly inclusive calling plan minute allowance. From 1 April 2006, Video calls from O2 mobiles to other UK mobiles will be excluded from the monthly allowance and charged 50p per minute. Video calling is handset and network dependant.
Pay & Go - Video calls made in the UK to all UK mobiles will be charged 50p per minute at all times and will be excluded from any Bolt Ons or free allowances that include voice mails (other than O2 Friends). Video calling is handset and network dependant.
Still if anyone knows how to activate this 3G service, it would would help out us who dont realy know about these things. Thanks
You should get a new sim with your exec unless you already have a 3G sim. Ring customer services and go through the security checks. They will ask for the serial number of the sim to be activated. It usually is done within 24 hours. Mine was done after 6 hours.
Good luck
PS. Check your postcode to see if you have coverage in your area as well.
http://www.webmap.o2.co.uk/map.asp
my o2 card was working since i put it in, plus i haven't seen anywhere on my papers asking me to Activate. Thats a bit stupid of them.
Unless it's just me
Yep, your original card will work just like mine did, but I received a new sim card in the box. (They are different to older sims). Only these can run 3G. They activate the new one and the old one gets switched off....eventually!

Thanks mate I'll phone o2 tomorrow. they never told me this when i purchased.
mine was new one, came in the box as well. I am migrating from Orange.
But i will try to get hold of them tomorow again.
Thanks
OK your exec should be supplied with a 3G sim card ...it tells you on it in the small numbers on the card itself...8989 889 3G bla bla.... you need to call O2 and they need to activate GPRS and 3G (UMTS)....once they to that you should see the small icon on the top displaying either a "U"..(yep i see 3g) or a "G"..(yip i see gprs but no 3 g......3g or not 3g that is the question  )...you can only video call when you have a U.....so to test it...use internet exploper on the device and surf the web on it via gprs...slower,,....then 3g...should nice and quick...then at least you know you have 3g and gprs connections are workin.....but i think o2 have a wee problem with there video calling on the exec...but i dont want to talk about it just now..lol as its doing my head in ..been in a o2 shop trying to fix the video calling.......sad thing is i knew more than they did....gggggggrrrrrrrrrrrr..ps or is that ee.g ? eh?

Hi Fellow Plymothian!
1st Problem
Fist thing did the SIM have 3G printed on it (on the big card before you pop it out), if it just says GSM it's not a 3G SIM.
I got my O2 XDA Exec from Mobileshop.com and checked beforhand it would come with a 3G SIM, it didn't but they shipped me a proper 3G sim the next day.
2nd Problem
O2 3G reception is very very poor where I live in Peverell (top of the hill near Outland Road), I can only get a 1 bar signal upstairs in the front of the house. The O2 coverage checker showed good 3G signal strengh.
In comparison 3 and Vodafone 3G are very good signals anywhere in the house.
So I have set the Phone to GSM only and use Wifi when at home, when away I switch over to 3G (UMTS) if need it for data but keep it on GSM for better battery life the rest of the time.
Jonathan
well well.
I have got it now finally. The BUYMOBILES.COM sold me EXEC with a regular SIM 2G one. I have called them in the morning and they told me O2 does not supply them with 3G SIMS for this phone. and told me to comtact o2 to get a 3G sim.
I did that, and they told me either you wait 5 working days or go to any O2 shop and ask for 3G SIM. I did that, called them to activate it(YOU HAVE TO DO THIS IN ORDER TO GET 3G) and now i got my U sign instead of G and video calling is working.
On the sim, YOu do actually have a 3G sign.
Mine came from O2 direct (online)
its a 3g sim card
showing as G not U - so might be needs activating or might be not in their 3G area ??
However I wonder if the free GPRS until 31/12/05 ( if it exists) is for G or U usage, so not going to call them to activate 3G until I know ( if I get free GPRS on 2g, I think I'll leave it a couple of months)
o2 said no nned to activate a 3g card - must be because I'm not in their 3g coverage, that I only get "G" not "U"
Using the 02 sim in my nokia 7600 I can do a network search .. as it details all 2g and 3g networks , and yes I'm only showing 2g for o2 and orange , whereas voda and T Mob all have 2 & 3G ( so does Three , although their 2G is actually o2 piggyback!)
Placing a "3 network" sim in the xda Exec , changes the G to a U, and after changing settings I can get 3G GPRS access - but only to their page telling me to register/pay for the service

MDA t-mo no signal, cingular has signal

I purchase MDA from TMO, unlock, upgrade ROM to 2.4. But in my office when I have TMO sim in, I don't have signal. I then switch out to cingular SIM and I have signal 2 bars. I then put TMO sim back and try to do manual signal. when TMO and cingular show up i select it but somehow the phone switch back to TMO network again then signal will be lost. Any idea why???
I'm in S. california ZIP 91767
both test done at the same location
I'm not sure you have described your problem too well, if your using a SIM from 2 different service providers why would you expect both signals to be the same? From the description of your problem it sounds as if your in an area where there is little or no T-Mobile service but some cingular service. If this is not what the problem is can you please have another go at explaining what is wrong. :?:
well, I'm under assumption that TMO has roaming agreement with cingular. so if my MDA can't lock on TMO tower, it should try to lock to cingular, right??
Your theory is sound but I have never heard of such an agreement nor have I seen my phone ever display the Cingular logo. I didn't think the roaming thing worked while you were in your home country. Maybe the roaming agreement only covers those states were T-mobile has zero coverage rather than poor or patchy coverage. I'm in SoCal as well so I should get a similar service as you. I would be interested in any info you can dig up on this...

Mobile network state: disconnected

Got an x10 today off ebay, unlocked after browsing this forum, by htc-code, network shows carrier on home screen, signal shows 4 bars, yet in status it says mobile network state: disconnected, this results in me not being able to get any calls at all, not even a simple balance check, the sim card is pay&go whilst I sort it out but as far as I'm concerned it isn't a data plan issue or anything like that.
Just wondered whether this is an issue anyone knows anything about or whether it's been imei blocked or whether I should just get in touch with tesco.
possibly important info:
Tesco mobile
phone was locked to orange, now unlocked
firmware 1.6
baseband 1.1.25
kernel 2.6.29-rel semc-android semc #2
signal strength -85dbm 14asu
mobile network type utms
service state in service
mobile network state disconnected
Being a pay as you go, the SIM might need activating? Ring your Telco and see what they say.
The sim came out of another phone I've been using for the past 3 years I'll give them a call later to set up a data plan anyway.
Got hold of Tesco, they couldn't solve it, imei isn't blocked or anything, tried and Orange simcard (the network it was originally on) and that works and makes calls, my other sim doesn't make or recieve calls, so it looks like it hasn't been unlocked fully. I need to get hold of htc-code and try to figure out a solution, that is, when they're online. I'll post back with an outcome.
both my x10a and my nexus1 say the same thing, mobile network state disconnected, and my phones work great. i am on wifi now, but when i turn off wifi my phone has no issues with cellular data.
your phone must not be unlocked yet or you might not have entered your apn correctly. make sure the apn is correct for your network and try again
i just turned off wifi and waited for the 3g symbol to reappear and now my mobile network state reads connected. so this indicates if you are attached to the network for data only.
i would still make sure that you manually configure your networks apn settings and then try to make a call. i think i had an issue when i had flashed to a different firmware and had not entered my carriers info.
Thanks for the reply mate, I'll try that seeing as ferraripassion/sudarshan is offline I'll let you know how it goes.
Sort of fixed, manually entering APN puts up 3g symbol and changes mobile network state to connected, even on wap internet, but I still can't make or receive calls on this sim card :/
Thought I'd check the phone on checkmend this morning, although the phone does still work on an orange sim card, checkmend says
Ever blocked UK: This item has been blocked during its lifetime by one or more UK network(s).
IMEI Currently blocked: This item is currently blocked on one or more networks. It may still work on some networks.

So, with that, does anyone have any advice on IMEI unblocking/people to contact and getting my cash back?
Write to matey boy on eBay and get money back. Because clearly, he's sold a non-working phone that's probably been nicked.

[Q] Selected Network Unavailable

Hi, all. I moved from Australia to the US, and brought my GT-I9505 with me. I'm on an at&t sim, however if I look at my phone's "Network Operators," I'm unable to join the at&t network. Instead, I see that I'm connected to a network called Maritime. I've tried asking at&t for help here, and they've tried giving me APN settings, but nothing has enabled me to use the at&t network.
The AT&T network appears as an available network when I search for networks. But if I select it, I get a spinning wheel saying "Registering on AT&T" followed by a toast message that says 'Unable to connect. Try later."
For now, I'm happily on the Maritime network, which is actually a network here in California so that people on cruise ships get some signal. It's not a huge deal for now, but I have a suspicion that a day will come when this will become a problem.
I'm wondering if I need to change my modem, or my ROM in order for the phone to work correctly on the at&t network. Anyone have any ideas about that? On previous phones, I had rooted the phone, but with this one, I left it as stock and haven't changed a thing and thinking maybe there's some Australian software that is not compatible with AT&T? Thanks for your advice.
Thanks.
did you purchased a sim here? if you did you should go to the store where you activate it and ask the reps for help

Yeah, that was the first thing I did. Then I called and spent an inordinate amount of time with tier 2 support, who eventually asked me if I could just live with it.
Hm, I've taken a few trips to the States with my i9505, and managed each time to roam on the at&t (and T-mobile) network without any issues. 3g worked well, and there were no dropped calls. That being said, my phone uses a Nordic, and not Australian, baseband, which I suspect might be the reason why everything's working here. In addition, I'm also using a custom ROM.

Non Verizon Nexus 6 Booted off the Network.

Verizon Booted me from the Network
4 Months ago I moved to Big Red with my N6.
The signal wasn't as strong as my other Verizon devices which I found odd. I lived about 2 miles away from a Verizon tower and on this device I was only connected 45-50% of the time while at home.
After the first 3 weeks I was still frustrated with the poor signal and I read online everyone cried foul on Google(or Motorola), so forced a PRL update to see if that would fix the issue:
I lost LTE connectivity.
I was connected to 3G but I had no service.
I re entered the APN, nothing.
I took the SIM out put it back in, nothing.
I read online that someone else had a similar issue with the Nexus 6 on Verizon and the only way to resolve the issue was to replace the SIM and that's what I did, LTE service was restored.
About 2 weeks ago I moved about a mile further away from my nearest Verizon tower, so I'm about 3 miles away from a Verizon tower and 80-85% of the time at home I'm not connected.
Today:
Around 3 PM I was in the city and my LTE was fine, I had bars, I had a signal, nothing had changed on my end but I was unable to send text messages, I kept getting this message "Can't send message with CARD 1 error 98" And when I spoke with my sister she said she had been trying to call me for the last 3 hours.
So I contacted Verizon and asked if there was an outage in my area, they said no so I went on to explain the issue(s), and I was told by the customer service rep that my phone wasn't making a connection to the Verizon network, they couldn't see my phone and I needed tech support. Which made sense because of the poor signal all of the time.
So I called Verizon tech support. And the service rep said that I need to enable roaming by entering
PHP:
*22898
This did not fix my issue but maybe it could benefit someone else on Big Red.
I told them the error code and Tech support said we need to check if your phone has dual SIM, I said no it is a Nexus 6 it does not have a second SIM slot I don't care what the error message said. Then I was directed to another tech rep and he said "your phone is NOT a Verizon Nexus 6 and we cannot find it on our network, your phone will not activate on our network, your IMEI is not available to activate on our network" I said wait a minute. I understand the whole FCC ruling and months ago this was suppose to be resolved(I read the post here on XDA). I went online activated the phone when I moved my Nexus 6 over to Verizon, it shows up as a Non Verizon Nexus 6. It allowed me to activate it. It took the IMEI and now they are telling me, NOT ANY MORE!?
I was transferred to a supervisor. He said the same thing, he said he would try to reset everything for my phone but still poor signal and still I have no idea what calls or messages I'm missing and a few text messages are not being sent. I'm on call 24/7 but it looks like I'm going to have to go back to AT&T or T-Mobile.
I believe the poor signal issue is not only Google but also Verizon is still keeping us off the network for the most part and only allowing us to piggyback the rest of the time. Maybe I'm wrong but I hope my 3 hours wasted helps someone else with a similar experience.
I thought I also read somewhere that T-Mobile shut off Band 12. Seriously what the hell is going on with these carriers.

I have VZW and I am not seeing any of the issues that occurred before VZM finally allowed the Non VZM N6s on Network.
- I can still make account changes
- I still have my monthly discount.
Those are typically the two easiest ways to see if you have a supported phone or not. I think you may have signal quality issues but I think those reps may have been wrong. I have a GPS N6 though what version do you have?

Are you 100% stock?
Even if you are, you might try flashing the latest factory image to restore phone to out of box settings.
The reason I am suggesting this is because I had the same issue on my previous phone(HTC M8) with Verizon. I tried everything you have tried and nothing worked until I RUU'd back to stock and it magically started working again.
I realize the M8 is a completely different phone, but if all else has failed it is worth a shot.
FYI, *228, *22898, & *22899 do not work on any LTE enabled VZW device. That is/was used on 3G devices for updating the PRL. In very early LTE devices, dialing that could have actually caused the phone to stop working. It's been fixed now so it doesn't do anything. With the SIM card, the PRL updates automatically when the device connects to the network, so you don't need to dial anything to get the latest PRL.
As for fixing your problem, the only other suggesting I'd say is to try just getting a new SIM card and see if the problem continues.
I find it odd that you are having all of these problems. I originally got my Nexus 6 from Sprint. I am now using Straight Talk. I bought the BYOP kit that came with 9 sim cards, a Verizon activation code, and the $45 monthly service card. The sim cards you get are for Verizon, AT&T, and T-Mobile. (Regular, Micro, Nano for each) I went the Verizon route for obvious reasons. I have had zero problems with service and my LTE is twice as fast as when I was on Sprint. When I look at my lock screen it even says "Verizon Wireless" in the top left corner.
I have yet to experience any of the issues you are having. I know I am not "directly" on Verizon like you are, but that is why I wanted to bring this to your attention. If you would like Verizon coverage on your Nexus 6 for $45 a month check out Straight Talk. You get unlimited talk, text, data. Data is 5GB of LTE then throttled. I have heard the only difference is that you can't quite roam / utilize the partner coverage that someone directly on Verizon can. I have yet to come across anywhere that I have not had signal though.

100% Stock, locked bootloader, no root. I might try that if all else fails, I have an invite to project fi. I was thinking about trying it out even though sprint was horrible in my area and I doubt it has improved.

This is my second Verizon SIM and I'm not impressed with the reception.

Wow I might give that a try. I might have been misinformed but I heard that prepaid plans didn't give you the full service as contract plans.

I have been running on straight talk for years across many devices. There is almost no difference. Yes they throttle you after like 4gb or something but I havew never reached that limit with wifi everywhere

The SIM card has nothing to do with reception. Have you tried a new SIM since the problem started? I suggested it to fix your problem of having no service, not to get a better signal.
+1 on reflashing stock images.
Same problem I had with Verizon on straight talk. I went through so much bs with these people, with same issues you had. It seemed like it was still stuck in GSM or something, and the only band that would work was band 6 on 2g. I could send mms and browse the internet, but a phone call would hang up immediately. USA Band wouldn't work WHATSOEVER.
I called customer service and talked to about 6 different people, all who told me my phone wouldn't work on VZW. When I told them they were full of crap, they would transfer me to somebody else. I finally found someone who ended up changing my phone number on the spot and gave me 5 more gigs of data, but my n6 still wouldn't work; I could call out, but no data or MMS/internet.
I was on the verge of saying **** Verizon. I reflashed factory images and everything was smooth sailing and worked properly. I think there is a bug when you change your radios, something fudges up.
The Verizon straight talk plan is nice if you can get around the hurdles I faced. The only downside, besides what I have already mentioned, is they cap your max speed at 5 mb/s when downloading. I live in an area where ATT rules all, but Verizon picks up LTE in places ATT can't even get 2g (whereas ATT ST downloads around 20+mb/s)... so you'll have to compromise.
FWIW, if you ever hear a customer service rep tell you that they cannot change your phone number without sending you a new sim card, that's a damn lie.
Also, here are my apns to compare with yours. I did not touch these after flashing. I read somewhere that these were the old ones, but they work perfectly.
Using a non Verizon n6 with no issues. I had a local repair shop cut my micro Sim to a nano Sim,and I've been up and running since June. Too bad you are having issues.

The thread owner is on Verizon directly, not Straight Talk. I just offered him the idea. I am using Straight Talk (Verizon Sim Card) with my Nexus 6 and I have had zero issues. When you are on stock / flash stock images, when you boot up your phone, the proper APN settings will load right up and LTE will take off. Works great. Now, what you need to do is write these APN settings down, precisely. I have noticed that sometimes when you flash a custom ROM, the APN settings won't load automatically.
This just happened to me when I flashed "The Pure Nexus Project". I ended up with no data. I manually entered the APN settings and boom. Full data, LTE, MMS, etc
